A few suggestions: 1) You can use a 12 string electric to get more natural octaves, 2) You can use a sustainer, e-bow, or blend the guitar with a slow-gear pedal for longer sustain, 3) Instead of using the fuzz, you can create a comb-filter by using one or two few phaser pedals with lfo speed set to zero and adjust the time control to create cleaner sounds and wave shapes other than square, 4) You can use an envelope based phaser effect like the bubble tron pedal, to create a chaotic attack envelope (especially to emulate flutes and horns), 5) You can use a ring modulator to create bell sounds 6) You can use a talk box to even shape your sound more
Yes! That's what I'm looking for! This video, plus the awesome helpful comments, is just what I needed! I've been looking for a way to get good synth sounds from my electric guitar, and this just nailed it. (Not just "electronic" sounds, also horns, sax, etc.) I'll see what I can do, just as soon as I can tolerate playing my electric guitar. (Guess I should explain: it hurts really bad to try to play, both from the weight of the strap around my neck, and trying to turn my head to see my left hand. That's bc I'm still, STILL recovering from neck fusion surgery to fix nerve impingement in my left arm & hand. Surgery was over 6 months ago, and I'd have thought I'd be more recovered by now... "But it just takes time," as the Physical Therapists keep telling me. Frustrating, bc I WAS recovering nicely the first few months, then I started having severe muscle spasms in mid-back, lower neck area, that's making me feel like I'm going backwards, not forward in recovery. But hey, there is progress, just in the last 2 weeks, all of a sudden I can play my classical guitar for more than 2-3 minutes at a time, I played for an hour the other day! I've been working on hand strength since the day after surgery, but it didn't "take" until recently. So, that's progress, I guess.... But not fast enough!!! It's frustrating!!!) Anyway, that's my "cross to bear." Thanks, guys! Really! 👍
This is really helpful, I'm a rock/metal guitarist and also an electronic music producer. THIS is what I wanted! Thanks!! *Shredding a guitar-synth solo on a metal song*
Bro. I usually have good things to say about your videos. But you've outdone yourself once again here. KILLER sounds, and clear & helpful tips. DAMN!!! You good man!
Deeply honored, my friend. I'm just super happy to hear that the video provided you with new insight and inspiration. Makes all the work completely worth it 🙏
This is what any multi pedal guy who wants freaky but very organic tones wants. It's so tricky to buy up boutique pedals with weird sounds and make real music. Excellent job. You should get some serious job from this, so many people just end up trashing a good tube tone not knowing how to control pedals musically.
Hope you enjoyed the video! Please consider throwing a like, comment or sub my way. Every action means more than you could possibly think. Thank you for being AWESOME!
this was a super great video. how about a review of the new release of the EHX attack / decay or the Maleko Sneak Attack (as a way to remove attack and create synth sounds)? i love this channel, and i've been into synthy stuff for a while (i know they discontinued but moogerfooger with CP control would really really fit your sound, although it's a bit more technical). anyway, keep it coming...
This is the exact type of video I was looking for! Really helped to build my understanding of how synths operate while also giving the gear recommendations. Great stuff!
Killer work as always, sir! I love it when you say "Let's check out some of those sounds in a musical context" because I know something both inspired and inspiring is about to happen.
Haha, well that's because all of these "magic tricks" are fully open to interpretation. People can perform them however they like with the gear and skills they have available. This is just how I like to do it once in a while. Happy you enjoyed the vid 😊🙏
This was incredibly helpful, I use a boss gt 1 multi FX and I could nail an awesome synth/guitar tone that just blew me away when I played it, given that this multi FX only let's you use 2 modulation effects at the same time i thought it probably wouldnt sound good but with the phaser, chorus, and fuzz I made this tone that now I'm in love with, all thanks to you my friend, thank you so much for putting this video out, I love how modern and awesome guitars sound when trying to sound like a synth, they become an entirely new thing, thank you so much pal, you won a lifetime subscriber
I love Chase Bliss, but honestly don't think it would sound much different. At least if you apply the effects in the same way as shown here. But you can of course go down way deeper rabbit holes with the CBA stuff if you want.
First video of yours I have watched. It's nice to see somebody on RUclips that isn't just a straight up metal head talking about guitars. I love Fluff and Jared and Ola and all those guys but this is the stuff that really gets me inspired and excited. My guitar Idols have always been the unconventional ones. Mike Einziger, and Amir Derakh and the like. I wish divided pickup guitar synth technology has kept up with the rest of the tech. I'm just getting back into guitar after years without playing, I feel really lost on the tech end of things, which is where I love to be. I think maybe your channel will be a good thing for me to come back to. SUBBED!
Love stuff like this. Very different & Creative. I do that with my Strymon Big Sky into my Diamond Tremolo. Enables me to mimic some Roland Jupiter Synth-Patches. Really Enjoyed your presentation.

@@thepedalzone of course! I'm trying to find a pedal with Chorus and tremolo in one to get this sound but consolidate my board. Thank you for this video!
This is the pinnacle of everything that I’ve been trying to achieve with my pedalboard, and it’s been frustrating, because of money and just the lack of knowledge. Like I’d love to buy an Enzo, but there’s always been something wonderful about having four or five pedals on. I mean, idk man this amazing! You’ve blown me away and inspired me to keep going. Thank you, you’ve definitely gained a new subscriber.
Thank you so much for this amazing guide to synth guitar! 👌 I also want to share a pair of tips with you: 1. A good forgotten pedal to cook nice synth tones is EQ (either graphic or parametric; or both if you can). Why? Filtering and FORMANTS! Some of the most sought-after synth tones are based on the filtering and formants from real instruments. 2. Fuzz pedals are actually synth pedals (in fact, the Maestro Fuzz-Tone was initially marketed as a synth device!) and they work amazingly as a foundation for reed-style tones. For instance, you could be able to get a convincing sax or clarinet sound from a fuzz pedal (+ the intelligent use of EQ and filtering pedals) with a little bit of knowledge about acoustics and good ears (of course).
So inspiring! Your videos always help me to branch out and come out of the frustrating rot I sometimes find myself in. Thank you so much for sharing these amazing tips!
Wow this is fantastic. Your video on the Sea Machine is what prompted me to get one, and videos like this remind me of all the amazing things that can be done with a guitar and some pedals. Subscribed!
So I have a delay, chorus and phaser on gumtree ready to sell so I can buy a synth type pedal. Little did I know I already have the tools at my disposal (along with some pedals I was keeping). Stefan, you are THE MAN! Another day, another great ThePedalZone video (i know I'm late to the party!).
Dude don’t you love it when you watch one of Stefan’s videos and realize you have what you need to create cool music? So often I get hung up on needing new gear, when really I just need to learn to use what I have better.
This was pretty fascinating. I was particularly intrigued by the suggestions for the guitar itself. Wouldn't have thought that the playing technique would make such a big difference here.
That tone roll off trick is used on 12:51 to make the lead guitar sound synthy, gain cranked on the hot rod deville and I’m assuming more gain may have gone in to push it a bit more. Love using that technique with my modulation and pitch pedals
You read my mind dude - I was watching one of your old videos and literally though to myself “I wish he’d do a synth with regular pedals video.” And here we are. ❤️❤️❤️
Daaamm mate!! One of the best gear demos Ive seen!!! You should try makin a video with less expensive gear for the rest of the common mortals!!! By the way, do you have any musik group or on your own??
Thank you for the kind words. Means a lot to me 🙏 Honestly, it doesn’t matter what the price tag is of the gear I use in these videos. You should look at the effect type. You can recreate these sounds with any pedal in these effects categories, be it cheap or expensive. That goes for all of my Tonal Teamwork videos 😊 I use the gear I like, and I hope you do too 🙌 Not currently in any bands. All my creativity goes into these videos at the moment.

I started watching this on my phone, in Google, after a search. Once I got it into YT so I could see it in "landscape" mode, I was able to see some of the details & text that was added in editing. But I'll have to watch it again on a much bigger screen. I can see that it makes a difference in shaping the sound, the order in the effects chain that you put the different pedals in. That makes sense to me, I'll need to make some notes to get the most out of this video. Then I'll have to translate your pedals into the ones that I have to accomplish the same functions, lol. Maybe you could do a video on the difference it makes to change the order of things in the effects chain? That'd be great, bro! Keep it up, dude! Want to see more! I definitely subscribed! 👍
Aerial travel is getting real fancy recently, and I believe it's a good thing as it's safer and faster than taking a train. Still, plane tickets are not a cheapest thing in the world. But did you know you can fly with means of transportation you already have? You just need to know how planes work. 1. Planes need to go real fast in order to take off. I'll be using my hennesey venom F5, because I really like it's engine sound, but you can use whatever car you have that goes about 180MPH 2. Most of planes fly higher than the ground level. They do it by going up. I'll be using my Airship Industries Skyship 500, as I like how comfy the cabin is, but you can use anything that goes up. Trebuchet paired with a glider gives interesting effects, if used correctly. 3. Planes can move in the air by spinning their wheels, like cars do. In order fly they use propellers or jet engines. Since I'm using and airship, all I need to do it to tell my servants to get me there, but if your butler is on a leave, you can use Rocketdyne F-1 engine. As you can see one can achieve flight without explicitly buying a plane ticket. Of course plane ticket takes less space in your pocket, but if money's an issue, you can always make do. Also, it can give you more uncommon effects than simply traveling in an old boeing.
So many people have tried so hard to make their synths sound like real instruments. Mostly guitars. Now we're trying to make our guitars sound like synths. Love it!
Hey there, I’m pretty new to pedals. I’m looking for that specific tone from 7:57-8:14. What were the effects you had on just for that part?Great video!
Man, this content is pure gold! I really have no idea you could make that kind of sounds out of regular pedals. Also your explanation and justification of why putting each and every single pedal is just great. This video definitely blew my mind, and you have earned a grateful subscriber. Keep up the good work! Ps: I will definitely will try this with my pedals. Thanks.

I'll be using my hennesey venom F5, because I really like it's engine sound, but you can use whatever car you have that goes about 180MPH
Thanks for the tips! I’ll be flying in no time 👍🚀
Excelente aprendí muuuucho hoy gracias parsero excelente
Around the 4:50 minute mark, some of the volume swells made me think of the B12 "time tourist" album¿?🎸🎹🎧💫😵👌😎👍

The tones are cool, but they honestly wouldn’t be half as cool as they are if it weren’t for your incredible talent to use them in such a musical way👍

So many people have tried so hard to make their synths sound like real instruments. Mostly guitars. Now we're trying to make our guitars sound like synths. Love it!
Happy you enjoyed the tones 😊
This is so so good!
Awwww, man! Thank you so much 🙏
Hey there, I’m pretty new to pedals.
Thanks.
Wow, fantastic! I'm going to go set up the Plethora X5 now with the Sub n Up, phaser, tremolo and HoF and see what I can do. Thank you.
