King of Smut 95, you're a man of culture!
Zethus Thorne Oh yea! Love these guys!
Truly a man of discerning taste.
William Chow is such a cool dude. You can tell he does exactly what he wants to do at all times. It's inspiring. And DAMN. I wish I could have seen his store in the "golden era".
He’s my favorite guest you have on the show! (Rob doesn’t count, he’s still a cohost in my heart)
stupidbluebird I love mr rob he is the ed to mr happy’s carson
I was born in '97... Hearing all these stories is incredible. I wish I could've been around to experience it all, Vancouver in the 80s-90s. Getting to hang around Will's shop sounds like a certain kind of paradise. Thanks for sharing, guys.
King of smut is a champion and a true legend.
he likes the Smut Tape INN from bubblegum crisis.
Mark Plott and Hentai too
Yessssss let's see that collection!!!
Love this video ..I will always treasure my memories of gaming and anime in the pre internet era
Wow, great episode. Such an down to earth humble guy :) Really enjoyed watching this video. I would love to see the other video put together, John.
Big props for recognizing that we stand on the shoulder of giants, he did so much to lay the foundation not for money but for the love of anime, in the age of click baiting and view chasing your channel is a breath of fresh air. Good Job 👍
I would like to see that hour long episode Johnny. Good to see Will back on your show.
Bwahaha! That Pokémon Go Raid box is HILARIOUS! That is a whole new level of obsession. 🤣
Love all the guests you have on Johnny! Such entertaining stories and great memories!
Yes it'd be cool to see Will's anime collection :)
I didn’t think I would like this video but this guy reminds me of the gamers who were older than me recommending games. Great stories. Great video.
Love this guy. I'm glad you guys were able to do another episode. Such fun stories.
Johnny I just finished ys 8 ! Epic game , if it wasn't for your channel I would never discovered this series. So thanks . Strangely this game reminds me of secret of mana one of my favorite RPGs of all time .
I can't wait to see another video of you two reminiscing.
Awesome video, and yes, absolutely would love to watch the episode you are talking about making!
I can relate to so much you guys discussed, and I'm not just talking about a DOAX obsession.
The over-saturation of anime, I LOVED anime in the 90's and early 2000's but now that I'm surrounded by it I don't really care for it. Modern anime just doesn't do it for me, I still love the classics.
I wish you guys still had arcades in as much abundance as there are in Japan. It's great to be able to drop by the local arcade before going home to get in a game of Tekken or Street Fighter.
And that is what i tend to avoid, that "waifu" crap. But still, even tho i prefer 80s, 90s and early 2000s Anime (my top 5 Anime are from that "era" and i would argue that up until 2005 the waifu crap, while present, was not as present as today), there still are some good modern Anime out there (example, while based on a Manga from a few decades ago, i cant pass any JoJo). But yeah, its seems that back then the ideas were simpler and often better in comparison to today, so it seems to me.
KidShoryuken So true.I can't stand how silly most of them are now.
Japan need to start doing old school type anime like those old school type game we got in the past few years (Shovel Knight, Bloodstained Curse of the Moon etc..).
There is still some good Anime but it's mostly waifu/moe stuff nowadays .
T-Rex Turtle I don't even know what waifu is lmfao.
KidShoryuken even though I wasn’t around I love late 70s and 80s anime cause there were some awesome concepts the Japanese were playing with like in macross where music is a weapon or mega zone where people find out they are living on a spaceship, James Bond in space with dirty pair, and my fav a blend of blade runner and streets of fire with bubblegum crisis. To me it just seemed a more creative time compared to the majority of today’s anime.
One of my favorite HappyConsoleGamer youtube vids. Fantastic guest to have on.
He is like the quintessential nerd and doesn´t shy away from showing it. Cracy and great!
Thanks for all these memories. I know all the things you guy talked about. Life is good. Please keep up the great work!
Awesomely enough over here in NA it seems like Round 1 (an arcade/karaoke/pool/bowling place) seems to be taking off and I'm playing a ton of Arcade games there recently like Dance Rush Stardom which seems to be the latest craze in Dancing games. So many Japanese only titles there if anyone was interested!
Liked for Wills Anime Collection.
Also, don't give us what you think we want. Give us what YOU WOULD WANT TO SEE or at least WHATEVER YOU FIND INTERESTING. This lends to a natural and real enthusiasm. This is one of the reasons we fuckin love you dude. (This is basically how Joe Rogan goes about his podcast and it's impossible to argue that it hasn't been stupid successful.)
You guys are like big brothers to me. i wish I could meet you when I was a kid...
.hack//SIGN T-SHIRT! Love it!
Yes! That's such an old shirt too.
Omg the .hack shirt. That's my favorite anime/video game franchise ever. So much respect.
Heather Rogers .hack is amazing!
Another great Video! It's Great to see other people out there that loved the old school Japanese games also! Would love to see that Anime episode.
Oh Persona 5 music running in the background..... Made my day even better 😂
Hands down your best episode for this year Johnny. KoS95 is an original pioneer of geekdom for the rest of us youngsters by comparison. Truly a treat to witness.
REALLY want to see Will’s anime/game collection video! I don’t care how long it is I’ll watch it for sure. Awesome to see you two reminisce about the halcyon days of anime and games.
Awsome conversation. Thank you buddy. Nice to listen to on a hot day.
Would like to see the collection video, and more stuff with Will in general. Very interesting to hear first-person accounts of what the pre-social media Anime scene was like. Great video.
31:20 "You reached your limit break" I got that reference =p
I love Smut's passion for Pokemon Go. that's impressive! True example of someone who knows how to have fun!
Amazing episode! That guy is insane! In a good way! Love the Pokemon go setup! Would love to see the collection video too :D
The underground anime era was a golden age for those into who were into it.
Johnny, please, from a brother across the Southern border, bring the KoS 95 on mor regularly, like twice a year at the barest of minimums. Of course completely voluntary on everyone's ends. But, goodness me, I'm enthralled by the conversations you guys are having; the topics being touched upon. Fantastic.
Enjoyed! The Ma and Pop game/anime stores was where it was at back in the day. (Ah man, Newtype!) Will definitely check out that collection vid.
love this guy! great content as usual johnny.
Loved this episode :)
Tokimeki Memorial for the Sega Saturn. I always wanted that game to try out back then but the price was over $80 US dollar and it's extremely rare to see in regular mom and pop store. There were Japanese website to get them but imported games were more expensive and it's not often converted for Western audiences.
I can't wait to see that hour long episode, really looking forward to it.
Are you kidding, I don't think there's any other kind of video I'd want to see on all of youtube more than an old anime collection video.
I remember when our local anime joint closed up, it was a great place, I rented all my fan dub bootleg DBZ there, and Street Fighter. As the Anime Kids at school told me " you only watch mainstream" but it was my favorite. Johnny it was called Generation X, located in Kitchener Ontario. Thanks for the video
It's smut season!
This dude is so awesome.
The "dating sim" in a rigid sense is kind of passe...visual novels with romance and VN eroge are still going very, very strong.
We love this guy! PLEASE BRING HIM BACK SOON!
This is so cool! BACK IN THEM DAYS, MAN!
I enjoyed will as a guest and a great episode guys :-)
I would love to see the King of Smut 95 Anime collection episode! :D
Man, the 80's and 90's were a great time for gaming, I sure miss the hype back then, it usually paid off.
Great episode as always :)
I was doubting until he broke out that box then I felt humbled and insignificant yet blessed to bare witness to a true otaku master, I am but a grasshopper
Over here, we are all grasshoppers to the King of Smut 95's majesty.
The struggle was real with anime back in the early 90's in Oklahoma. I was one of the first kids to start showing other kids anime movies and what not. VHS used to be ridiculously expensive and then when dvd's came out they would only stick like 3 episodes to a disc and make you buy like 5 or 6 dvd sets to get a whole show.
I remember those days, I still have fan subtitles VHS, and VHS with sales stickers with $29.99 on sleeve
Perfect for a hot Sunday afternoon :)
5oups3yeVi3w actually 9:42 pm here south east asia
For us a good night for stargazing and coffee
Fascinating. Nice work Canada/Japan. So sweet!
that box thing with all the phones is totally amazing lol
That Shandalar MtG PC game was amazing back then. It was kind of like a rogue like. It had an expansion that added more sets.
Yes, and Magic still hasn't built another game like it. Even their mobile 2015 version of the game was nothing but a giant cash grabbing app. I remember it crashing my Windows 95.
I would definitely watch that video!
I actually read that guys faq on DOA Xtreme on the xbox back in the day. I tip my hat to you sir.
I would re word that as Arcades are dead in the West. If you ever go to Japan, there are plenty of arcades
Johnny please make that hour long video of king of smut's collection. It looks very interesting.
such a great episode! please do more with the king of smut 95
I would like to see that video, John. You and Will are both men of culture.
Sweet video! Have him as a guest more often!
Damn, the King Of Smut is a HARDCORE PLAYER! Great video man!
I'm jealous of what you guys had in Canada.
loved every goddamn minute of this!
It was what? 10 days ago we were talking about you doing another vid with Will, and boom already up. Brilliant. Also I look terrible in that picture from the party.
God bless Japan.
Sir Smut95 sir we salute u!
19:05 - what a legend... lol
YES PLEASE i am straight up dying to see William Chow's anime collection please please please!!!
Just discovered and started playing Langrisser 1&2 on ps4
I see your a man of culture.
Oh. Also I was sort of obsessed with DOA: Xtreme 2, I used to play it for hours trying to get all of the swimsuits for Tina, I got pretty close to doing so too, but my older brother moved out and took the 360 and all of the games for it with him, and then he lost everything he had in a bad relationship.. I miss that game.. not only for the swimsuit collecting, but also for the volleyball and the wave race like mini game. Oh and I for one would like to see that hour long anime collection video.
Orge battle march of the black Queen is another SNES turn based gem
18:15 Plot Twist: William was just in the neighborhood to catch a rare Pokemon on GO(he didn't even know Johnny lived there) and Johnny happened to spot and recognize him in the crowd, invited him in for these videos and the rest is history. Sadly The King of Smut '95 never got that rare Pokemon though...
Great episode John,Some would say your Friend Is a bit Mad But we would say Dedicated to the hobby
I love this episode. Brings back so many memories about that one shop that brought people together. It’s like our version of cheers. I had a place like that . It was a game shop in main st flushing called game express. Got to play contra for ps 2 gradius v and phantasy star online on the gc. Loved that place. Miss how every Friday everybody would be there especially since it was pay day. I remember watching legen of overfiend there . Wish I could open up a coffee shop where people can play and talk about games. Wish I could meet this guy . He was a guy who brought a community together
I used to love taking the game and put it in the CD player and play the music
I love King of Smut, really like his videos on Langrisser too!
Shock as King of Smut logs over 500 hours on DOA!
This man is absolute Legend
Jesus Christ, that raid box...
Dude, throw some velcro strips on those phones to hold them in place.
actually, the bottom of the tray is lined with a black anti-slip felt. I also have a funny mock TV ad for the "Pokemon Go TRAY" on RUclips.
That device is genius lol 😂
More videos with him! All hail the king of smut!!
I dont play pokemon Go but I love
His dedication and imagination! Big kid. Thats awesome #KingOFSmut
I'd love to see that hour long anime collection video!
Christ this guy is quite a bit older than me but looks 10 to 15 years younger. Must be nice. And I don't drink or smoke either.
This guy is my hero
Man I want to see that anime collection.
I would love to see that collection, he is one of my favorite guests on the show
Hi there!
I'm Pierre the maker of RetroStone a retrogaming console that launched on Kickstarter some time ago.
The first batch is almost out of the factory, if you'd like to get one for review I'll send you one!
It would be great to see that game and anime collection video. I like to watch long videos during my lunch breaks or while I'm doing something else. Don't worry about attention spans. There's always multitasking. A long video it's kind of like a podcast.
i fucking love this guy king of smut for some reason .. that anime episode was so interesting seriously probably my favorite :)
Great video! Yes on the anime collection video!
So uh, any chance of getting a copy of that DOA save file? Asking for a friend.
That pokemon setup is legit nerdy af and I'm jelly.
I was 10 was resident evil came out on the ps1, I’d had a C64, master system and mega drive and I loved them but see when I saw RE1 my video game perspective changed, Jesus Christ the Sony PlayStation made a man out of me
I need to see that collection video. Old school anime and game videos are not something we get to see. AN hour if material is a god send
What a cool video. In general I’ve always preferred Japanese gaming art over anything in the West.
What is everyone’s fave Anime btw?
Berserk! Then probably Welcome to the NHK. Currently watching Monster. That Anime is so damn good and is set in a real World Germany and deals with Serial killers and what the meaning of Pure Evil really means. Give it a Shot.
There are a lot of anime i like but here some of my favs: Rurouni Kenshin, Plawres Sanshiro (It was the first one i ever watched), Sanjuushi aka the three musketeers anime, Slam Dunk (my favorite sports anime also the characters are really funny), and Yu Yu Hakusho
Nadesico!
Saint Seiya.
Outlaw Star
