Ill change your mind easy The 2.7 EcoBoost might be fast but you can not tow anything heavy. The turbos go out. Its a ford fusion sport engine in a full size f150. So in truth your better off with a gen 3 5.0 for many reasons You can tow Make actual v8 noise No turbo lag or overheating issues V8 is superior to small EcoBoost
Very nice review. I think that the 2.7L ecoboost is great for those of us that still love pickups and don't necessarily work in construction or landscaping but still want to drive one and save on the gas at the same time.
I do countertop installs and haul 2 full size 3cm jumbo slabs in my 2016 xl 2.7 long bed no problem. All you need is to upgrade to air bags for suspension, and boy are they cheap and easy to install at a couple hundred bucks per airbag and takes a few hours to install all 4 sides. It’s a perfect truck for me with a combined average of 17.5 mpg and looks great with some off-road wheels and tinted out.
Rangers ride quality is garbage and needs addressed, the Tacoma which is the most “truck like” ride quality, isn’t as bad. Plus if you want to take it off road, bring a winch
Ford won't do that. The f150 is the golden goose. You put the 2.7 in the Ranger, the fear of ford execs is the Ranger will cannibalize sales from the f150. Ford isn't really behind the Ranger anyway. I went to go buy one and the salesman was very aggressively trying to push me into an f150. The reason is push from up top is to push f150 sales above the ranger
Always owned an 8 cylinder ford truck and were great to me over 300 000 km plus , after so much research and testing I picked up a 2020 2.7 , the one engine I said I’d never buy but now realize it is the best durability , mpg , and it hauls ass great motor imo!
Sean you hit the nail on the head on this one. I had a 2014 5.0, a 2015 2.7, and a 2018 3.5. I loved them all for the reason that I bought them for. But the most fun and nimble was the 2015 F-150. It did everything well but I think that with the lightweight of the 2.7 made it extremely fast and fun to drive!!
So far I’m happy with mine. It’s a 19 2.7. It is really smooth and has plenty of pep. For a vehicle of its size I don’t need anything faster. That blacked out girl looks sweet bro.
Also means that like Euro cars, if the valves and injectors arent cleaned frequently (Ford hasnt added this to the maintenance schedule), theyre going to run like shit past 100k miles
They clean themselves for the most part, plenty of mechs have said that it just plain works and it’s not like the 1st gen 3.5 where the valves gum up bad after 100000 miles bc in this it sprays and cleans the valves at least better than nothing like before, also look how many f150s have way over 100000 miles so that’s a no argument
Finally a video where it explains it all. This is by far the best truck out in the market. And its true you have to get the most expensive GM engine to compete with fords entry level engine. This 2.7 is a rocket in sport mode ,I destroyed a 5.7 hemi a 5.7 tundra and a 5.3 vortec with my 2020 stx 2.7.
I had the 3.5 and was very happy with that motor. When I decided to get a new truck. I looked at Ram, Chevy ( not a fan of the new look so really didn’t spend a lot of time with it) and Ford. I almost pulled the trigger on a Ram, but ended up going with a 2.7 Ford. I really can’t tell the difference between the 3.5 and the 2.7. Day to day driving and towing my boat (about 4000 lbs) power wise not a significant difference, but a little better mpg. For the average person 2.7 is the way to go. My only complaint I have with my truck right now and it’s not the motor, is when it’s cold ( winter months) the transmission shifts hard. But after it warms up it shifts like it should.
Weve had 2, 3.5 ecoboosts, 1 5.0, and 2 2.7's. For everyday driving, 2.7 hands down. Its just fun.The 2.7 turbos spool up quicker and give a much crisper throttle response than the 3.5. Makes it fun to drive. On our last road trip (500miles) averaged 24 mpg in my supercrew 4x4.
Could not agree more! I tow a 5k-7K pound trailer a couple times a month. The engine has been flawless for 75K miles. it gives a crew cab truck a sub 7 second zero to sixty. I really hope Ford keeps this motor for a long time. Has no problem cruising at 85mph on SH 130 in Texas.
@@Ivan_Luna.mp4 I honestly hadn’t driven a new v8, the 2.7 ecoboost gives plenty of power and I like when the turbos kick in. The only way I’d go for the v8 is if I was doing heavy duty towing , but the 2.7 can tow approximately 7k pounds.
I've owned two 3.5 ecoboost, 2011 and 2012. I now own a 2016 with the 2.7 ecoboost. My father in law has 2019 f-150 with the 5.0 V8, the 2016 with 2.7 will smoke all of the other trucks I stated. But the gas mileage isn't nothing to write home about but I can live with it.
I have a 2016 XLT. I had an 06 F250 with the 6.0, and after the third time having head gasket issues, I got rid of it and bought an F150. At first I was very hesitant as it was barely the 2nd year out. Now its 2021 I have 100k plus miles, its my daily/service call truck. I have a 6" lift 35' tires, 4:56gears, a deck tool box, a Highway products service truck cap, front and rear Fab Four bumpers, firestone airbags to include an air compressor and I still get 16-18 mpg in the city, 20-22 mpg on the highway. I have towed up to 9k pounds and no issues. If you go to my website you can see my setup. I am fixing to buy another one for my company as I am phasing out my big trucks and transitioning to F150 2.7 ecoboost.
I had a wonderful 2015 F-150 5.0 Supercrew...with an Oz Omega tune, it made 350rwhp/370rwtq SAE, all at a rather high rpm for a truck. A drunk driver totaled it a few weeks ago and I picked up a brand new 2020 F-150 2.7 Supercab, 3.55 geared tow package but a bit lighter than my old one. Stock for stock, walks my 2015 and now with its new 5* tune, still pulls my tuned 5.0
Sean the 2.7 is Barry Sanders of engines, Barry was only 5’8”, don’t let size fool you, 2.7 is my favorite all time engine I’ve ever driven in my 58 years, my son rented 3.5 in a XLT and honestly just driving I couldn’t tell the difference in the two without a load. 50K 3 years and not one problem.👍👍👍
I had a 2017 STX Supercab with a 6.5 bed with the 2.7 and liked it so much I got the 2020 version with a few more bells & whistles. What impresses me is the quickness especially in sport mode. I've never had a truck pull onto a highway and be at 60 mph in seconds. And compared to the V-8's it's so quiet you sneak up on them as if it were steathy!
I have a 2.7 L TwinTurbo in my 2016 Ford lariat. Great engine does everything well great on road trips great to tow with. Very smooth great truck for daily driving. I couldn’t agree with you more.
The 2.7 really is a great engine ! It is silky smooth too. My 3.5 is so smooth you can’t tell it’s running but the 2.7 seems a little quieter out the tailpipe and just a little more refined . I’d own one if not for the torque and tow rating of the 3.5L
Hello DS, I bought a 2018 STX 4WD crew cab with the 2.7 and 3.55 rear end. The 2018 came with the dual port injection. I don’t tow, but that truck has been great, with great acceleration, fuel mileage and comfort. Had it for 3.5 years and no problems. In fact, I ordered a 22 lariet and kept the standard 2.7. Still plenty of power.
I happen to think the 3.5 ecoboost is the best engine you can get in a modern truck. With that said, I bought my truck with the 2.7 because that fit my budget. I have to admit I really like this motor. It has way more torque and HP than the 5.4 in my last truck. It even gets better mileage in the process. I have only had my new truck less than 24 hours but I love it anyway. For what its worth, I drove my last F150 for 15 years so I'm not one to trade up just for the sake of getting the new hotness.
I have a 2018 f150 with the 2.7 I pull a 7000 lb travel trailer and it pulls the camper with no problem at all I love the 2.7 so far not one problem with the truck.
This may seem silly, but I have an 2016 infiniti q70 with the 5.6 V8 engine in it. Would I be dumb considering trading it in for a 2017 F150 2.7 ecoboost? Thank u man.
I own a 2015 fx4 2.7 I live in Baja my truck is in 4x4 a lot beach launch for my boat my truck is very strong it only gets 19 to 20 mpg because I upgraded the tires to 33 inch it used to get 23-24 high way 19 city before I upgraded so far so good I only have 41000 miles
I have a 2016 with a 2.7L in it. I put almost 40,000 miles on mine. I bought it. Did a little research on ecoboost engines. Yes, a little more maintenance is involved. Highly reliable. The first thing I’ve done, was put a catch can on mine. You’ll be amazed how much oil front the blow by gets collected in 10,000 miles. If you haven’t done this yet. I highly suggest it. I’m running a JLT 3.0 on mine.
I bought a 2015 F150 XLT build date of Aug 2015, 2.7L January 2016! It has been a good truck ,wouldn't buy any other engine, 74000 miles no issues with it so far!!! KOW!!!
I haven't had any issue at all with my 2018 F-150 XL Regular Cab SWB 2.7L 10-Speed 21,800 miles FX4 with Chrome Package No rattles, no whining and the oil stays full, doesn’t smoke. No warping of dash because of black carpet dash mat and a sunscreen for the windshield. DEARBORN Build Date: 09/18 Stock 2018 F-150 FX4 Regular Cab SWB 2.7L 10-Speed 3.55:1 93 Octane 0-60 - 5.9 Seconds ¼ mile - 14.4 Seconds G-Tech Pro SS Performance meter
My 2020 F150 supercrew STX is the 2nd best full economy vehicle I have ever owned. Only my 1986 1.6l VW Golf Diesel with 50hp got better mpgs 38/44mpgs... LOL the truck is amazing
In hind sight, i should've gotten the 2.7L Ecoboost instead of the 3.5 in 2014.It was my first truck, so i plead ignorance. ;) I don't haul or tow anything, I pretty much baby my F150 anyway. 71k miles and it's running like a champ. Love the looks of the newer F150's, but all paid off and i don't have plans on trading it in.
The 2.7 is the only engine I'd get in an F150. It's the most reliable option based on official warranty claim numbers. I've been waiting patiently for the supply chain issues to work themselves out to some extent before ordering my truck. I have no intention of paying a markup or even msrp and I don't want a half baked truck that's missing features. My local dealer tells me they expect things to loosen up quite a bit and all features to be restored by the end of summer, so I'm planning on ordering my XLT sport supercab with 2.7 and payload package in the fall and hopefully get it by the end of the year. The payload package comes with 3.73 limited slip rear and 9.75" gear set, which takes things up a notch. You lose a bit of fuel economy, although it should still beat the 3.5, but you gain quite a bit in performance and capability. This will be a roughly $55k truck and I plan on keeping it for the rest of my life, so I definitely believe the 2.7 can go the distance, especially if well maintained.
I got that exact truck with the 5.0 and it works just fine , I had a Ford Explorer sport with the 3.5 eco-boost and it lived at the dealership... Mabie the 2.7 is better but after my first experience with the eco-boost it will be a long time before I give eco-boost another shot
2015 2.7l xlt sport 4x4 supercrew here 37k miles. Cold air intake, morimoto intercooler, tuned, banks pedalmonster, morimoto catch cans and 35 inch all terrain tires with front level kit. Love mine and would only trade it in for a f250. I've had a 13 f150 platinum with the 6.2l and a 09 f150 lariat with the old triton v8 and this truck spanks both of them hands down for ownership.
@@horseplop9 Glad we have options. The 2.7 has considerably more low end torque. The only advantage of the 5.0 is max towing, noise. I could careless about noise. I thought it was a big issue till i bought a second gen 2.7. I don't even notice sound anymore.
I Have a 2017 2.7 eco boost Stx it’s not even close the best truck I ever owned and I owned them all . Titan tundra Sierra Silverado are all hunks of junk compared to my f-150 . Only truck that came close but still lost by far was the ram . 2.7 has 70,000 miles on it only thing I ever do is oil change and pads . Truck runs better then it did out of the showroom . Reliable easy to drive handles like a dream and freakin fast !!!!
Not necessary for 2018 and newer 2.7l engines. They added port fuel injection for 2018 and newer. That said I have a catch can on my 2018 2.7l and it definitely keeps some nasty shit from going back into your engine.
I agree! Just towed a 5500lb camper trailer last weekend with my 2.7 in a wicked cross wind... climbing a hill at 7% grade and the damn thing accelerated from 95 kmh to 103 kmh going up, and I didnt even have it on the floor. Not sure if you've seen it but there is a video (TFL I think? Can't remember now) where they tested three F150s, all the same year and body style, with the only difference being 2.7EB, 3.5EB and 5.0. Anyway, the 2.7 beat the coyote 0 to 60 and quarter mile. The 2.7 also beat the 3.5 in zero to 60, but just barely lost the quarter mile. So yeah, it's safe to say it's a bloody fast (and awesome) engine! My truck is a 2019 F150 super crew 4x4 XLT fx4 with 3.55s out back, by the way
Thanks for this video. My wife just went and bought the same truck today for me and I was wondering about it. Kinda worried about pulling power being a 2.7 but after all the reviews, videos I’ve read and watched I’m not as worried now. Thanks again
I had a 2015 scab fx4 sport with 3.73 gears, I only say had because it was a lease. With the exception of the carbon treatment needed every 30k miles in which later models it was remedied. It was an awesome truck, it was flawless in ice and snow which I attribute to the 2.7 being a light engine and weight seemed to be more equally distributed. Not nose heavy, I rented a mid size kubota tractor and it pulled it flawlessly. 3.73 gears may have been a good difference maker as well. The combo was flawless.
I just test drove a 21 v8 and 3.5 I liked the v8 better. But I also drove a 2.7 last week in a 19. And i liked it to. So what u think about the v8 vs the 2.7 ? Not racing. Lol But over all. Reliability and oil change and all that stuff
My regular cab is a 2.7 and I can tell you that it’s the fastest truck I’ve ever driven, and I win races left and right. The only F150s that beat mine are modified; super charged etc lol. Mine is extra low weight though. With that said though, I test drove quite a few of the 2021 F150s (and 2020s) and I wish mine had that 10 speed transmission. There’s something about it that makes it feel so much more smooth.
I think a lot of people just don't give EcoBoost engines enough credit. In the F-150s at least, you're getting comparable performance to contemporary V8s and often surpassing the performance of many V8s of yesteryear yet getting better fuel efficiency out of them. I have the 3.5L in my 2012 F-150 with around 213k miles on it and this thing is an absolute tank, if it ever quits I'd definitely get another one with the EcoBoost motor or possibly downsize to a Ranger since I just need leg room rather than hauling power (what, I'm 6'6" alright?).
Had a 2015 Super Cab with the 2.7 (only 375lb of torque) and the 6 speed transmission; I didn’t really care for it, now I have a 2019 Supercrew with the 2.7 (400 lb torque) and the 10 speed transmission and WOW what a difference!! I don’t tow much so the 2.7 is ideal for me, the Sport mode makes it fun to drive if I want to have a little sporty feel!
I would even purchase an F150 with the 2.3 L EcoBoost 4 cylinder and manual transmission. However, the 7 speed Getrag manual transmission can handle over 500 feet pounds of torque, so anything Ford has except the 6.7 diesel would be accommodated by the 7 speed manual transmission. It has a creeper gear for starting on a hill.
6.0l diesel came out in 2003, btw love your channel and contents, I would love to have the efficient 2.7 in my next truck but I need to tow 10-11k once in a while so the 3.5 will have to suffice
The 2.7 is a great engine, however the problem is reduced GVWR to 6600lbs UNLESS you get the rare 2.7L Payload Package (622) which is available on XL/XLT up to 301A and boost GVWR to 7k. Payloads are generally in the 1300-1400lbs range on the 2.7 vs. 1600+ on the 3.5 / 5.0s. Depending on your needs, that may not be enough payload for you and a family of 4 plus a travel trailer.
I’m not sure how but my dads 2019 has, if I recall correctly, 1450-1650 payload (can’t remember exactly) on a screw 4x4 2.7 that has heated seats and remote start, power sliding rear window (isn’t that a 302 package??) trucks a 2019
They weren’t selling much 2.7 engines so I got a brand new lariat at 40k usd in Canada as trucks in Canada have a few more changes internally for the colder temps as I work in -45 C in the winter seasons. Only had a few electrical issues and a issue I am working out now which involves being in 2x4 and at low rpm I feel a little rumble.
the problem is, most people only leasing the thing, in 4 years, nothing will go wrong, otherwise it is defective. how about 10 years? 20 years? idk how long these turbos will last without any leaking...
Gets a lot better than 1 or 2 mpg more than the 3.5. My friend is averaging less than 20 with his 3.5 and I'm getting about 25. Just installed a two and a half inch leveling kit to get rid of that low front stink bug look. Might cost me a mile or two but Wont be hitting every rock in the road with the front end.
Wow that’s why Ford dealers want my 2021 FORD F150 4WD, V6 SUPERCAB XL ECO 2.7.. truck.. I am gonna ordered same truck but with 4 doors lol it’s the best with fuel economy and hauling. Wicked!
Sean I agree with you buddy the 2.7 is a great engine. I’m gonna get it in my next F-150 and my wife’s Bronco. My oldest brother had trouble with his 2017 F-150 2.7 but it was only because the factory had defective heads. They replaced his heads and now it’s fine
The 2.7 EcoBoost is the best tbh. Please try the new 3.0 Duramax diesel from Chevrolet I swear to God you will be so impressed. It averages between 26 to 31 MPG
i used to have the 3.7L idk how good it is however around 90k miles it had a mild knock and luckily I was able to get rid of it pretty quick ( yes the buyer knew about it).
I'm a Ford guy, and i was debating to get the 2.7 or the 5.0. I have driven the 2.7 extensively and was so surprised how it pulls. But the one thing that turned me off was that the company I work for has a fleet of 2.7's and a couple of the N.A V6's all of them had to get new engines except the regular V6...i said no way, not taking that chance.
My only experience with the 5.0 was a rental. And my regular cab is a 2.7. The 2.7 feels way better, but the problem is the weight difference was so big between the super crew and regular cab that it was a bad comparison. Also, the 2.7 being so quiet has trained me to see noise as a negative. When I had the rental I was driving through the grape vine (mountains between LA country and Kern county in Cali), and when I started going up hill with the 5.0 that engine was screaming (relative to the 2.7) and it had me questioning if it was about to break down or something lol. I had a whole new respect for my regular cab after that
The stock f150 5.0 is extremely quiet with a huge muffler from factory that does well to suppress it. If you think thats too loud, you are one weird dude. Should drive a prius, its even quieter than 2.7
MrInzombia Quiet and loud is relative. Sorry the Prius thing is irrelevant cause I’m comparing two of the same types of vehicles lol. - I drive to and from LA all the time and I’m used to not hearing anything but my music, so the 5.0 was distracting Af to me because I’m used to the same truck doing it quietly. Of course there’s louder trucks and some people like being obnoxious and modding them to be louder. But ain’t me lol
I have a 2020 2.7. I love it awesome truck, except when towing, fuel economy sucks. It tows awesome but I bought a 3600 pound enclosed trailer and drove 568 miles it took 4 tanks of fuel. Still a wonderful truck.
@@DS-TRUCKS 65 and I was very easy on the gas petal. It stayed in 6th and 7th gear all the way. I was wondering if I set it in trailer mode right?. In the trucks defense, the trailer is wider and taller than the truck but you can actually watch the gas gauge drop. I stopped twice to check if the gas tank was leaking. I used to own a modified ford lightning and it didn't have that bad of gas mileage when I towed my boat, a 18' aluminum boat. I love the truck regardless it really is awesome. Mpg without trailer is great. But geez I have alot of stuff to do with this trailer. Thanks for answering
The 2.7L has a rubber timing belt soaked in hot engine oil. When it sheds teeth, pieces of rubber teeth clog the oil pick up which can starve the engine of oil.
I’m planning on getting a 2019 or 2020 F-150 trying decide on either the 2.7 or 3.5, eyeing the 3.5 right. If all goes well Saturday I’ll have one or the other
Hell yeah, mine will get loose going on those tight turns while getting on it. I'm almost scared to floor it. I have good tires just allot of power for a light truck. Thing rips
I just drove to Middle Florida and back from Chicago area. 1270 miles each way. I averaged only 14.6 MPG Over entire trip. I must admit to setting cruise at about 80 mph for entire trip. I would imagine if I’d set cruise at 70 it would get much better MPG. 2.7 LTR Ecoboost.
I test drove reg cab 2.7 puttered around xl landscapers special. I tried to see what kind fuel numbers I could hyper with 10 speed Got up 65 on freeway still showed 9 mpg. Never touched go pedal on my test drive. Awesome
Does your 2.7 Ecoboost have turbo noise? Just picked one up and I can hear the turbos spooling and the blow off when I let go of the gas. The truck is brand new, no mods. It's supposed to vent back to the motor, not atmosphere. Anyone have this sound on the newer trucks?
I don't think it matters as long as it's top tier fuel, which must include adequate detergents. When I get my 2021 2.7 XLT Supercab Sport 4x4, I plan on running a tank of premium thru it every 5th tank, just for the extra detergents in top tier premium fuel...but you must run top tier fuel for the best long term reliability.
Stock vs Stock for everyday purpose go with 2.7 Tuned 2.7 vs Tuned 3.5- 3.5 is gonna leave the 2.7 TfL trucks proved that. I got a 3.5 in a Ford Stx model w/4x4 and I absolutely love it.
If you want longevity, stay away from any turbo charged engine, especially if you have a truck, and you plan on towing with it. I drive a 2000 F150 with the 4.6 V8. I assure you, you will not see 2020 F150s with EcoBoost engines on the road in 2040 I don’t understand why they are doing this. 90% of truck owners never pull anything period. My co-worker has the 3.5 and he gets the same MPG I do, so they’re not more efficient. If you want longevity, get the 3.3 or the 5.0. Skip the turbos. Just check the service bays at any dealership, you will see nothing but ecoboosts being worked on.
I’m definitely not getting the 2.7 and I was leaning toward the 3.5 but after doing extensive research I’ve decided to choose the tried and true 5.0...from Ford!.... Based on speaking directly with over a dozen Ford mechanics...
Towing. I have a 3.5 stx and my buddy had a 2.7 stx. Had. Now he has a 3.5 xlt because... Towing. With my stx I tow a 7,000 lbs 32ft camping trailer and its easy. I dont see a 2.7 doing that. Not easily.
bad ass engine , i had one in a 2018, my sister and dad also got 2.7s in their 2018s, i now have a 2020 f150 3.3 , i beleive there is no "best" engine in these trucks, the best is what best meeet your needs.... so my 3.3 meets my needs, i tow a 24ft deck over trailer that weighs 4,000 lbs empty, tows it fine and it will last longer than a ecoboost cause is getting less stressed because of the lack of turbos. i can keep going on this but it just gonna get too long for me to write lol
How many miles do you get out of a tank? I do 90% highway driving, love the Ram I had one before but I want some economy now. I like the idea of a 136 litre fuel tank

Ill change your mind easy
The 2.7 EcoBoost might be fast but you can not tow anything heavy.
The turbos go out.
Its a ford fusion sport engine in a full size f150.
So in truth your better off with a gen 3 5.0 for many reasons
You can tow
Make actual v8 noise
No turbo lag or overheating issues
V8 is superior to small EcoBoost
I think the 2.7 should be an alternative to the 2.3 in the Ranger. It would make the Ranger THE mid size truck to own.
Absolutely!
F150s have been pretty close to rangers historically as far as msrp goes. Price difference isn't worth it for much less truck imo.
It's a great motor
My buddies 2.7 ecoboost is what got me interested in the fords.
I went with the 3.5 for towing, but the 2.7 is super smooth
Always owned an 8 cylinder ford truck and were great to me over 300 000 km plus , after so much research and testing I picked up a 2020 2.7 , the one engine I said I’d never buy but now realize it is the best durability , mpg , and it hauls ass great motor imo!
Quinton Lachapelle just change the oil frequently and use a full synthetic. The Turbos will thank you later
After a month studying different trucks I bought a 2022 2.7 turbo.
I believe this is the best engine you can buy in a truck.
💯
What I like is it has Port and Direct injectors in each cylinder. what a great engine.

“The light that burns twice as bright lasts half as long.” Overstressed engine with small displacement.
Yeah I would still rather have the tundra, and now Toyota is gonna have a twin turbo too
I had the 3.5 and was very happy with that motor.
This information makes me feel good about the Bronco with the 2.7L
Could not agree more! I tow a 5k-7K pound trailer a couple times a month. The engine has been flawless for 75K miles. it gives a crew cab truck a sub 7 second zero to sixty. I really hope Ford keeps this motor for a long time. Has no problem cruising at 85mph on SH 130 in Texas.
I have the 2.7 in my 2020 f150 stx and so far it’s been great.
Now I’m considering the 2021 2.7 stx
Glad you’re enjoying it. How many miles have you put on your truck already?

@@w.miller7282 no issues or complaints? Better than the V8?
@@Ivan_Luna.mp4 I honestly hadn’t driven a new v8, the 2.7 ecoboost gives plenty of power and I like when the turbos kick in. The only way I’d go for the v8 is if I was doing heavy duty towing , but the 2.7 can tow approximately 7k pounds.

The 10 speed make a significant difference. I get almost 22 average in mine.
That's amazing

I have been a toyota guy but when ford came out with this motor is time for a switch.
I have one in my 2018 Lariat. I was hesitant at first but after 47000 miles it's been great. Really peppy around town.

If only every engine had the hp & torque to displacement ratio that the 2.7 has!
DS TRUCKS it really is power house for only 165 cubic inches
Hello DS, I bought a 2018 STX 4WD crew cab with the 2.7 and 3.55 rear end. The 2018 came with the dual port injection. I don’t tow, but that truck has been great, with great acceleration, fuel mileage and comfort. Had it for 3.5 years and no problems. In fact, I ordered a 22 lariet and kept the standard 2.7. Still plenty of power.
Just got 2016 2.7 today 5-15-21

How's your truck running?
This black f150 is so beautiful...
If I’m considering a 1/2 ton then I’m not solely looking to tow, and this engine seems like the perfect 1/2 ton.

2.7 is great but still like my 3.5 after the tune it really came alive.
3.5 is better for sure. HES trying but Go try and sell that on a 48K truck
I love my 2.7! Its incredible what that little thing can do!
I’m on the verge of making the jump to Ford into a nice 2019 stx. Are they reliable? I’d love to get into a new warlock but I want economy
I’ve got a 19 stx 2.7 26k miles and have had 0 problems. I do my own oil changes at 5k. I also tow 4-5k lbs regularly.
I got that exact truck with the 5.0 and it works just fine , I had a Ford Explorer sport with the 3.5 eco-boost and it lived at the dealership... Mabie the 2.7 is better but after my first experience with the eco-boost it will be a long time before I give eco-boost another shot

2018 SCSB XLT with the 2.7L owner...NO complaints at all!! The truck sits low (thank you belltech), sips gas (relatively), and hauls a$$.
I just test drove a 21 v8 and 3.5
I liked the v8 better.
But I also drove a 2.7 last week in a 19. And i liked it to.
So what u think about the v8 vs the 2.7 ?
Not racing. Lol
But over all.
I have the 4 door and the think is very quick

@@isaias131982 I actually switched to a 2.7l super crew 2021. I can say the regular cab is just ridiculously fast lol. Almost like a sports car.
I wonder if I bought your truck.
Please Ford, give us enthusiasts a 2.7 turbo V6 with a manual transmission and I will pay full sticker price for it.
I think the 3-5 EcoBoost will be better with a manual trans 🤔
I would even purchase an F150 with the 2.3 L EcoBoost 4 cylinder and manual transmission. However, the 7 speed Getrag manual transmission can handle over 500 feet pounds of torque, so anything Ford has except the 6.7 diesel would be accommodated by the 7 speed manual transmission. It has a creeper gear for starting on a hill.
Manual transmissions are dead... less than 2% sold in North America..
I think it would be smart for Ford to offer the only 1/2 T with an MT!
Gotta admit I just found your channel and I'm subscribing, great video great review
Ford Ranger Raptor coming to US is likely to have this engine. Cant wait to see if it freakin’ happens
6.0l diesel came out in 2003, btw love your channel and contents, I would love to have the efficient 2.7 in my next truck but I need to tow 10-11k once in a while so the 3.5 will have to suffice
I had a 2018 STX with the super cab. Just upgraded to 2020 XLT Sport with the 3.5. Loved the 2.7, but for towing our camper, the 3.5 is superior.
Well no shit captain obvious. It doesnt take a genius to know that 3.5 is the premiere towing engine for the f150.
I love my 2015 2.7 Ecoboost F150 wouldn’t trade it for nothing.
I’m not sure how but my dads 2019 has, if I recall correctly, 1450-1650 payload (can’t remember exactly) on a screw 4x4 2.7 that has heated seats and remote start, power sliding rear window (isn’t that a 302 package??) trucks a 2019
Yep, my 2019 is almost 3 years old, not a single engine problems! Great engine for people who don’t tow as much.

Even 80 should be better than that.
I test drove reg cab 2.7 puttered around xl landscapers special. I tried to see what kind fuel numbers I could hyper with 10 speed Got up 65 on freeway still showed 9 mpg. Never touched go pedal on my test drive. Awesome
I love my 18
The thing amazes me just to think of only been a 2.7 liter how much power it has
Does your 2.7 Ecoboost have turbo noise? Just picked one up and I can hear the turbos spooling and the blow off when I let go of the gas. The truck is brand new, no mods. It's supposed to vent back to the motor, not atmosphere. Anyone have this sound on the newer trucks?
I have a 2.7 2016. It runs great. What fuel and type do you use?
I run regular
DS TRUCKS ok. So no specific brand like shell or citgo? Also I’m approaching 40,000 do I need to do the spark plugs?
Dad Vibes Spark plugs are done at 100K, gapped at .028 I believe.
Stock vs Stock for everyday purpose go with 2.7
Tuned 2.7 vs Tuned 3.5- 3.5 is gonna leave the 2.7 TfL trucks proved that.
I got a 3.5 in a Ford Stx model w/4x4 and I absolutely love it.
Well said brother🙂it is what you say and then some. Deserves more credit
If you want longevity, stay away from any turbo charged engine, especially if you have a truck, and you plan on towing with it. I drive a 2000 F150 with the 4.6 V8. I assure you, you will not see 2020 F150s with EcoBoost engines on the road in 2040
I don’t understand why they are doing this.
We'll see. They've been around since 2012, alot of those are still on the road... I'm confident alot of these will be on the road in 20 years .
I have a 2018 with the 2.7, I get 20 mpg and I f love this engine
No doubt its fast, sufficient, and tow, will fit most daily driver applications. However what is the long term reliability with the 2.7?
Only time will tell. I love mine in my 2020 F-150
Perfectly fine. People report 200k+ on them.
I’m definitely not getting the 2.7 and I was leaning toward the 3.5 but after doing extensive research I’ve decided to choose the tried and true 5.0...from Ford!.... Based on speaking directly with over a dozen Ford mechanics...
I’m on my 2nd 2.7 and have been really happy with them. That being said, you’ll be very happy with the 5.0 as well. Enjoy
The 5.0 changed in 2018 keep an eye on oil consumption issues.
Towing.
I have a 3.5 stx and my buddy had a 2.7 stx.
Had.
Now he has a 3.5 xlt because... Towing.
With my stx I tow a 7,000 lbs 32ft camping trailer and its easy. I dont see a 2.7 doing that. Not easily.
Do they just not come with the engine cover???
I guess not...
Mine didn’t.
So after 3 years...how do you like it?
bad ass engine , i had one in a 2018, my sister and dad also got 2.7s in their 2018s, i now have a 2020 f150 3.3 , i beleive there is no "best" engine in these trucks, the best is what best meeet your needs.... so my 3.3 meets my needs, i tow a 24ft deck over trailer that weighs 4,000 lbs empty, tows it fine and it will last longer than a ecoboost cause is getting less stressed because of the lack of turbos. i can keep going on this but it just gonna get too long for me to write lol
What weight have you guys towed with your 2.7l?
This truck would smoke 85% of cars on the road
Yeah, I 2nd that.
i have the 2.7, ive owned the 3.5 and the v8. Without a doubt the 2.7 is the best in my opinion
What’s the average mileage you’ll get on a full tank of gas?
How many miles do you get out of a tank? I do 90% highway driving, love the Ram I had one before but I want some economy now. I like the idea of a 136 litre fuel tank
I can go pretty far! Might be time to try EcoBoost!
DS TRUCKS I think so, what’s your typical highway mpg?
@@stevenschaefer606 18 MPG. But I got 80... If I slow down I can get 25...
I have the 36 gallon fuel tank. I get between 680-700 miles.
I’m getting about 480 miles in my 2019. I’m almost exclusively on the highway
