I certainly agree with you, we are spoiled and not just with our hobby. Unfortunately far too many people think everything is about them. Model manufacturers have to create a product that will sell. If someone is that upset at a slight inaccuracy, then scratch build or alter it! This is what the hobby is about, building, changing and letting your imagination go free.
Although I am far from being an experienced model builder, I wouldn't even consider myself to be average, I really enjoy making short run kits and the older kits because you have to use and build up your skills, to get the end result you want.
Those who complain for the sake of complaining, would do well to remember that the world will still keep turning despite their gripes. Genuine concerns and constructive criticism are what the manufacturers should and often do want, not just a slating with no backup to it.

I’ve just gotten back into the hobby heavily this past year and I’m thrilled with all the choices and options I have now. Also the advent of RUclips and great channels like yours have made it so much easier for a mid-level modeler such as myself to pick up tricks of the trade. I don’t know enough about the individual aircraft, tank, ship, etc. to be concerned about the exact geometry or rivet count, or whether or not a panel line is off an inch or two. Nor do I care to. I’m much more concerned with fit, decal quality, presentation and build options than the minutiae of exactness. Of course I want a reasonably accurate representation, but like you I find some of the remarks moaning about small inaccuracies a bit silly.

You have got that spot on also with the web we can get kits from other country's at often much cheaper prices .When i was young all i built was Airfix with the occasional matchbox kit thrown in no paints until i was a teenager.I have only just got back into the hobby in March of this year after a 10 year break i cant believe all the whats available to us but most of it is to expensive for average man or women but the choice is there if we want them.We are are also very lucky that a lot of new kits are available each month not 1or 2 per year if we were lucky.

I totally agree, I came up in the hobby the exact same way you did. I cut my teeth with old Revell and Monogram kits. I feel that we've gotten so spoiled, we've gotten away from the love of building. Right now, I've got the old Monogram F-102 on th bench (not the Encore re pop). I'm having more fun with it than I did with the.lasr Tamiya Wunderkit I built.

I agree with you on this. I too started young with Lindburg and Monogram kits. I so appreciate and enjoy kits by Tamiya and Wingnut Wings now. We are definitely in the golden age now. That being said, kits, tools, paint and supplies are so much better but so much more expensive too. I sometimes worry the younger crowd is getting squeezed out of the hobby by the high cost now. It’s great for me but how about that kid who wants to take his allowance and get a kit to build? There are so few hobby shops anymore and a lot of retailers like Walmart, target etc, don’t stock kits anymore.

I totally agree with you, people should realize how this hobby has blossomed into the vast amount of wonderful choices and items available to them compared to years ago when I was building models as a youngster. I think it’s a reflection of our society presently. Folks needs to stop this “I want more...” mindset and be thankful of what they have, not just in a hobby but in life generally.

Hello. I think that we indeed are spoiled. It has its good sides and bad sides. Let me explain. Thé good side is that we often have New stuffs...the bad sides are...thé New stuffs are not so New. ..reboxing and thé second one is that you get trapped in the fake feeling of: Ooooh I need this and this and that, or I gonna test this New brand of paints and that one too and you end up with 200 kits 5brands of paints and lots of stuffs you never Will use. But you what is said. ..you only live once

Congratulations you have raised several valued points I am 55 years of age the only choice was airfix frog matchbox when I was growing up the kits were basic they done the job .
Now everything appears after market upon a new release I'm a perfectionist with details up to a point if people would just enjoy the hobby that is what it is a hobby.

I love having so much choice in this hobby. You can buy a kit that just falls together, if that's your thing, or you get something more challenging and test yourself. It's great! And that's before we get in to paint & aftermarket stuff!

I enjoyed your video. I’m old school as well. Yes, we didn’t have all the tools and paints that we do today. But just my opinion, some people just have to complain about anything. You could give someone a bar of gold and they would complain that it isn’t shiny enough. So my friend, sleep well. We know better. And keep making your models and videos. I’ll be here to watch and learn. Thank you, Rudy.

I think things have never been better. BUT, as Gier said, we are allowing ourselves to be screwed over by paint companies. The paint is fantastically expensive by volume but we are buying shades of shades of shades. Real painters pro and amateur start with basic colors on their palate and mix their own. Da Vinci did not have ten shades of Khaki and we really don't need that either. As for me I have no skill in color mixing so I buy the little pots but I bet we could all upskill pretty quickly and make all our colors from 8 basic pigments.

I don’t think you can ever make everybody happy, some people just feel the need to whinge. I don’t mind when some major inaccuracies or latent defects are pointed out - this doesn’t necessarily mean I won’t buy a kit, but if I’m forewarned, at least I’ll have a realistic expectation of what I’m buying. Of course, on the flip side, if the people who do the reviews don’t point out all the flaws and potential issues, they’ll probably be criticised instead of the kit, or as well as the kit. I think the huge amount of choice and options available these days is simply awesome, and let’s be realistic, if the manufacturers weren’t selling enough product, they would just stop making kits. The big difference between my return to the hobby and my childhood, is that wondrous new thing identified as “The Stash”.- I never had one as a kid, once I got a kit, I built it straight away........ now I’ve got years and years of my approaching retirement leisure time, filling shelves and cupboards all over the house.
Am I spoilt? Hell yes, ........ and loving it. 👍

I think choice is great, but I do feel we are being a bit mislead. I took a look at 8 different washes that I bought over a period of a couple of months. They were all almost identical, and with a bit of pigment over the top I bet it would be almost impossible to tell one from the other. There might be differences, but telling which one is which is a whole other thing. Might just blend them all together and have a big bottle of general purpose brownish wash! Then there is the rivet counting. It's like getting the worlds greatest actor to play let's say Chopper (that one's for you Aussies, and I am not claiming that Eric Bana is the worlds greatest actor, but he was good in that). It might be a great representation, but it's still not Chopper (unless you get him to play himself), and it could never be. Same with a 1/48 scale F-14, it can get close, but it will never be 100% correct, and if you have to look for mistakes you'll never be happy with anything because there will always be mistakes. Luckily that's not my problem. I don't even look at that stuff. It's a model, and if you take 2 steps away from it you'll never even see the inaccuracies. In fact, for it to look more like the real thing in these tiny scales you might even have to make things a bit inaccurate to be able to see them at all. Like stage actors' makeup; It's over-done or you would't be able to see their facial features from 10 rows away. I don't know if that makes sense, and you might not even agree, and that's fine too :)

It might be just because there are a lot more modellers nowadays so more people are complaining

Your 100% right ! I've been building for over 50 years and they are spoiled. The skill of building a kit was what you could you do with nothing but the very basics. Now if you want to build a detailed cockpit you just buy one and now pre-painted instrument panels, resin and now 3D printed parts, ect...! The basics of using your hands and skills are gone. Yes it's nice, but the fun is gone now. Building a kit now is just how much you want to spend to build it. It's a shame to see what the hobby has evolved into. I just build what what makes me happy knowing it's my skill not my pocket book that builds the kit. Old school builders still beat them by a mile ! Cheers mate.

Hello my friend, I defo agree I'm 36, which isn't alot compared to some but even I can remember the old match box kits etc . Me and my dad used to make then we used get the 1/72nd box of figures to and we used to set up one side of the living room or bedroom each and throw Lego bricks at each others set up as though they were bombs or bullets. Then we used to fly over with our planes dropping bricks as though they were bombs it was great , mine with the glue marks all over the cockpit and me thinking wow my dad's are the best ever. Ha ha great days. You are very right, if you take a moment and sit back and have a think, like you said if summit isn't correct then there is some bolts or aftermarket that you can use to correct that problem or add that bolt that's missing. I never ever ever build anything 100% correct I always make sure I've said it as rivet people feel a need and as though they have a god given right to say how wrong your kit is etc and I fully believe that , that is from how spoilt we are nowadays !!! Anyway there's plenty more but I may get into trouble lol ! Hope you and your family are well ? Great video

I think you're all spoiled ! When I was a child in the 50's I got a dollar a week allowance and every Saturday when my mom was getting her hair done, I was in Haney's 5¢ & 10¢ getting a kit, tube of glue, and straight pins to open the glue. I can buy some of the same kits today but for a lot more money !!! But as a modeler for over 60yrs years, I feel that today's modelers are spoiled. How many times have you seen a video with someone whining about this or that. What you should do is how accurate it is and what do you need to do to correct it. Why does everyone only build the boxart version ? Used to be that was the last scheme you would do. You built the units you liked or the units who flew the planes that you liked. I don't think I've ever seen a RUclips video of someone checking out how accurate the kit is. I could give a fat rat's arse as to what paint brand your using this week. So, you don't need to tell me about it. I'm never going to weather my vehicles the way you do because I have learned my own way and it works for me just like yours does for you. I want to know about the history of the plane or tank or whatever. Who used it and for what ? Where is it on its base in time and place and what is or has recently happened to it/area it's in.
