Just after Chester passed away, my family and I were walking through the Lansing, MI mall, and this song started playing over the loud speakers. Everyone was singing along, and so many began to bust out crying. It's unreal, how much a singer can dig into your heart. Mike and Chester were the GOATs at striking the heart with their lyrics.
the lead singer Chester had a hard life he was abused as a child, and turned to drugs and alcohol to fight his demons, unfortunately even though the band was successful his demons eventually won and Chester took his own life . RIP Chester thank you for your music, you may be gone, but know you will never be forgotten.
he had a hard childhood not hard life. But his hard childhood brought him to bad mental state later in life. I had hard teen years, with my parents divorcing and my father leaving us on street, me and my brothers and sister have successful lives because we wanted to prove that we are strong without him, but, the mental stress from back then still haunts me, even thou my life is successful now, im an alcoholic, which can lead to my downfall. A ruined childhood can ruin your successful life in one way or another.
Keep going with Linkin Park, every one of their tracks goes so deep. When They Come For Me, Castle Of Glass, Given Up, One More Light... No matter what you pick, you can't go wrong.
If you mean by big hit in terms of popularity than yeah but One Step Closer is what actually put Linkin Park on the map because they released it as a single before they dropped Hybrid Theory.
Listening to Chester’s lyrics, I realize too late, he was telling us his challenges in almost every song he did. Makes me realize I need to listen to people on an everyday basis more.
Ronnie Radke (Falling In Reverse) does a lot of the same things lyrically that Chester did. The vulnerability of what their songs say & how so many people can relate to their struggles is insane. Chester was truly a once in a lifetime artist. I was gutted when I heard of his passing.
If you liked this, I strongly suggest starting their album “Hybrid Theory” and just listening to it front to back. The album has zero misses. If you’re more partial to the hip hop/rock side of them, “Papercut”, “Points of Authority”, “Place for my Head”, and “Forgotten” are bangers. “One Step Closer” will make you wanna go run through a wall if you don’t catch yourself lol.
All of their albums are amazing and they matured pretty well, even with experimenting and side projects. But yeah, their first two albums are pure classics.
Something you may not know, but Linkin Park came out with an album where they collaborated with Jay-Z. There's live concert videos available showing them together. Linkin Park is a great band. Literally pick any song from them and give it a shot, live or recorded. I am also a fan of Mike Shinoda (dark hair with the bars). He has his own side projects he did too, Fort Minor and also his name. His stuff he has come out solo is absolutely amazing in my opinion.
If I may add a nice little tid bit to the Jay-Z collab, they did it overnight right before they performed that small concert with the live video performance, truly phenomenal !!!
He ended his mental suffering. Our man took his pain to paper then poured his soul out for all of us to know its ok to be broken and the best help is just speaking your truth
Thank you guys for watching. If you think I should check out more from Linkin Park, please let me know by liking the video and posting your FAVORITE track from them. It doesn't have to be popular.
Thank you for your reaction. I'm first time on your channel, but i really love how you reacting and analyzing the video. The lead singer is Chester Bennington and the rapper is Mike Shinoda. There are SO MANY very good songs, some of them better to react in Live version(for example "Given Up, live in Clarkston", "Faint, live Rock am ring 2007" and "QWERTY, Live in Tokyo 2006"). Also you should react to "Numb", "What I've Done", "New Divide" and dozens of others:) Linkin Park also did a collab with Jay-Z. I'm hoping you will react to Linkin Park Jay-Z - "One Step Closer/99 problems/Points of Authority", "Numb/Encore" and "Dirt Off Your Shoulder/Lying From You".
I liked it 3 seconds in!! I think for fun the Jay-Z/Linkin Park live collaboration was stellar! Personal fav on that record is Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer mash up. Tnx for some great reacts!! Sone if my favorite bands you are covering. You probably haven't heard of the band Tesla. 80's hair band that toured a lot with Def Leppard. Love how thier music feels and lyrically great! The songs Modern Day Cowboy (Very relevant to us now). Tnx again!
These songs just hit different knowing he eventually ended the struggle. They have always helped me put words to things I was feeling, especially being in middle school listening to this album… really hope he’s at peace, he deserves it.
8:40 Now imagine your an angsty 11/13 year old maybe things are great at home. You see this at the local YMCA, Boys and Girls club or wherever you got to escape. Linking Park helped me so much growing up.
They always delivered. I saw them in 2003, I think, with Korn during the Projekt Revolution tour in a smallish outdoor venue and they both were amazing.
I was fortunate to see them live twice before we lost Chester. RIP. The first time was Ozzfest in Sacramento, CA in 2001 The second time was opening for Metallica at Candlestick Park 2 years later. They were fkn amazing both times. Chester had such an amazing vocal range and power. Shout out to Aerosmith and RunDMC for pioneering this Reese's Peanut Buttercup like blend of chocolate and peanut butter into such an amazing sound collab we get in todays music. So many have tried. Few do it well. None better than Linkin Park. Tom MacDonald's music also experiments with this blended sound of rock and rap. This song is an anthem! Biggest song for sure. Numb is prob my fav along with this one. Numb is very popular. The lead singer (rock singer - Chester Bennington) battled with major depression his whole life and eventually lost that battle. Their songs have a lot of deep connections with people suffering w/ depression - Numb is a personal song that encompasses those negative feelings and emotions that strike a chord with so many.
Polo, your observations are excellent! Your analysis was both thoughtful and insightful. Like you, I was in awe when I first heard this song! The interplay between the rapper and the singer was perfect! And the passion expressed by the lead singer was matched by the guitar player when he was shredding! This song came from their first album, "Hybrid Theory", and their sound reflected origins in both hip hop and metal! Enjoy the day!
This band's music kept my head together during the horrifying, violent end to my first marriage. I was older than their target audience (in my late 40s) but I had this (and other tracks, Crawling especially) on constant play. I was safe in my second marriage, on vacation in Hawaii, when Chester took his life. The pain was palpable, like the day Lennon died.
Appreciated your reaction. I recommend "Bleed It Out," "Lost in the Echo," and "Castle of Glass." They also do a rendition of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" that is fantastic. 🙂❤
Ik this is a year old or more but your thoughts right after the track was spot on. I grew up my father played as a lead guitarist in an old school country band. Touched a tad of bob seagar but mostly the oldies. Then i heard metallica nothing else matters and IDK what happened but my mind opened up. Now i listen to all kinds of music. From contemporary to new age. You hit the nail on the head when you said you LISTEN to music. This song and others of theirs in particular you can FEEL the msg and imo makes Chester one of the Goat.
R.I.P Chester. Absolutely best concert in my life, he broke his wrist but didn't stop (Australia) his talent in expressing emotion helped so many release
The band is incredible and Chester used his own experiences from battling mental illness to flavor many of the lyrics to their songs. He sadly lost that battle. RIP
thank you for this one Polo. I LOVE the emotion that I feel when listening to this. I bought Minutes to Midnight as soon as it dropped. I can't recommend enough to listen to Bleed It Out!!!
You can tell a lot about a person by what Linkin Park songs they recommend you. Here's my three. Heavy, One Step Closer, Leave Out All the Rest. Last album, first album, somewhere in the middle. Honorable mention: Given Up. For those 17 seconds.
Great song. Song of my senior year in high school at Altus High School in Southwestern Oklahoma. This was a fitting song. This song is stuck on my mind forever. My senior year yearbook quote was “I’ve put my trust in you. Pushed as far as I can go.”
One of my biggest regrets was never seeing them live. Chester had such an amazing voice. It breaks my heart that such a beautiful soul suffered so greatly
You have the best reaction channel hands down, just the way you break things down and always enjoy new things. Much love my man. I love this whole album, it's highschool vibes big time for me so it's a fun walk down memory lane. Had it on repeat.
This album dropped as my 24 year old self was in the process of leaving my abusive ex husband. It changed my life. So many of us found solace in their lyrics. Linkin Park became my favorite all time band. They got me through a lot of tough times, and still continue to do so.
One of the greatest band ever existed in my mind, to bad he couldn't outrun his own demons in the end, you really should check out their song Given up, it lets you see what was going on in his mind, so powerful and so sad at the same time..
When I got into LP, was almost 20 years ago now. At that time I was about 35 and going through a divorce from my high-school sweetheart. I moved into town where I was able ti go from dialup to high-speed. I came across the Live In Texas concert on RUclips I literally had this on repeat for months. Chester's pain resonated with everything I had been feeling since I was young...never feeling good enough and working so hard. LP was like therapy. I realized a lot about myself. Anyway bro...that live concert was when only Hybrid Theory and Meteora had been released. These guys are super unique and talented and speak from the ❤️
I'm with you 100% on the difference between listening and hearing music and lyrics. I became more appreciative of so many different artists as I got older and started listening as opposed to hearing. I wish I would have paid more attention when I was younger, I just didn't get it back then. I think it's so cool when teens and younger kids actually listen to music, read the lyrics, and are open to different genre's. It shows a certain level of maturity and depth to them. I think it makes your connection with everything in life so much richer in a way when you're able to connect to music on a different level. Anyway, I'm getting deep here, but I appreciate your reaction video and your openess to to this group/song. And that you looked them up and did some research on them beforehand - very cool :) I like "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park. You may not like it as much as this one, it's pretty hard core, but it serves its purpose ✌️ RIP C.B.
They were so amazing! I loved both parts going back and forth. Chester definitely made you feel something. Glad you liked it!! Geez they had a ton of amazing songs
As many people have already probably said to you on here the writer is actually the rapper Mike shinoda, with the lead vocalist being Chester Bennington, who is many people know sadly took his own life.... I believe that both had very troubled pasts so that's why it shows up in the writing from Mike shinoda, and the raw emotion from Chester.
I am putting my hand up for New Divide, Burn It Down or Roads Untraveled. As a child of a terrible upbringing myself, there are other songs that speak more personally to me, but these are just... if I had to pick a 'best" song of Linkin Park, I'd be torn.
RIP chester Bennington, definitely one who left us too soon. I hope hes found some peace, thank you for allowing us to expel our pains through your music
Dude, loved your reaction, as always. You said it perfectly at the end. You need to watch more Linkin Park, but that was a perfect reaction! Much love, Polo!
I would suggest Crawling and Numb as obvious ones to listen to (like In The End they were some of their biggest songs) then I would definitely suggest Faint, Given Up, Place for My Head (Live in Texas), QWERTY (Live in Japan 2006). Though honestly, you cannot go wrong with any songs from Hybrid Theory or Meteora (you have to be a bit more selective after those albums, but there are still some gems to be found)
RiP Chester after all these years its still hard listening to these guys let alone checking out reactions. yours is one of the very few ive seen. loved it. glad i got to see these guys back in 2003 with Limpbizkit and Metallica. i was only 14y.o. and it was my first big concert i went to. check out these songs (they have music videos) •"One Step Closer" this was their 1st video •"Crawling" •"Numb" Also i see youre a Jay Z fan.... they did a surprise concert for fans in their fanclub and instead of performing individually they performed together and mashed up their songs. i think the most popular one is "Numb/Encore"
Already sorry for my English I am from Belgium. Chester Bennington when he sang I had the impression that on his right shoulder there was a little angel who gave a soft and crystalline side and on the left shoulder a little demon who screamed his desire to sing, his anger or his pain . When this song came out, it was new nobody was offering this kind of sound, all we could do on the first listen was wouawwwww I dream it's masterful.
Can't go wrong reacting to Linkin park,so unique/awesome 🤘🤘 I could suggest soooo many songs like one step closer, numb, crawling, lying from you, paper cut, given up etc.
New Divide is another banger from them. Listen to that. It's from the Transformers movie. Pretty much any song from any album from them is good. One More Light is a tear jerker. I think that was his goodbye song. You can literally type in Linkin Park best songs and videos with all their top songs will show up.
You wanna hear something gut- wrenching, knowing that Chester extinguished his own life? Check out "Given Up". The pure anguished emotion is so hard in it.
I was never into this group but 'a thousand suns' was a wonderful album. Highly recommend the songs on that album, especially wisdom, justice and waiting for the end to come.. Very deep album Chester did.
There was nothing about LP's approach which invited this old school rock fan to the party except for Chester's unbridled passion and talent. Ended up being a big fan thanks to him, rest his soul.
Maybe best performance of a live song I’ve ever heard… the crowd coming in with the chanting hits so hard on that song. Also doesn’t hurt that’s my favorite song anyways.
im new to your channel but i appreciate the tidbits you did, ive been listening to linkin since i was 10ish and im 31 and i didnt even know that. subbed instantly. would love to see ur thoughts on a lot of music in this genre, its raw, its emotional, and i think its worth listening too
1st off RIP Chester.. I have every album these guys released.. an excellent, creative, talented group.. 2nd..I'm with ya.. your remarks at the end about maturing.. I was the same way.. I went through phases.. was really into rock specifically love songs.. also faster stuff that my parents listened to like Fleetwood Mac, CCR, Boston or The Eagles... top 40 stuff.. then rap.. couldnt get enough LL, Run DMC, NWA, 2LiveCrew, Beastie Boys, Tupac you name it,..got back to rock but all the above even the loud angry stuff.. went to college.. started opening my mind to a wider variety.. club music, alternative, progressive, even instumentals or classical..wow.. lol.. sorry I'm on a rant.. back to the point.. I'm 52 now.. as I've grown, I've been around a very diverse group of people or influences, I've become more appreciative of talent no matter what genre, I've been through so much that I can relate or find meaning across a broad spectrum.. my taste in music is eclectic.. if they can play, if they got something meaningful to say I'm in.. from the late 60s to the present..
One of the few truly successful combinations of rock and rap, in my opinion. Such a great group that actually understood both genres and had the passion and skill to put them together As for my favorite Link Park song, definitely Forgotten. I don't think I've ever seen anyone react to it, and few people talk about it, but if has some of the best lyrics.they are less introspective and more just straight poetry, so that might be why... it doesn't resonate emotionally as much, but both Chester and Mike KILL in that one.
So happy to see u do LP. RIP Chester 💔😢🎤 One of the best voices in rock history,-one of the greatest losses of all time! 😢😢 SO MANY amazing songs by them. One of my fav: Guilty All the Same feat Rakim. Also…When They Come for Me-live from NY-MSG / Waiting for the End ❤ / QWERTY Live ‼️/ A Place for my Head Livr from TX…. Too many to list.!!!! The Catalyst / Lying From You/ …………
Now that you’ve heard one LP song, you’ve gotta do more. First on that list can only be Given Up. Anyone suggesting LP songs knows the reason for that. Some of my personal favorites would be Faint, Breaking the Habit, and Numb for some of their harder stuff. They also have some great stuff that’s more mellow such as Shadow of the Day, Heavy, and One More Light. A lot of the lyrics in any of these songs hit much harder after Chester took his life. Lot of pain in their music but that makes it therapeutic.
They were massive and cut across cultures and genres: very popular in my childhood, right alongside Eminem (biggest artist on Earth at the time). Of course, Green Day and others were big for about one summer -- Linkin Park was major for years. I'm thinking back to maybe 2005-2007 here, in the North of England (so, things hit us a little late, of course).
Yea Green Day was pretty popular into the mid 2000s starting back in early 90s stateside… and linkin park was huge in like 2000 here I think? I would argue Green Day was technically more popular than linkin park here… but the people that love linkin park really really love them… there stuff just sticks with you… that being said I think by the time we got to 2007 their sound had changed some and they still had die yards but weren’t getting nearly as much recognition … I think if you took a poll of Americans most would list Green Day as the more popular band, but the people that said Linkin Park likely feel that their music saved their lives… very hard to measure that kind of impact

Do you regret changing the channel?
after Chester passed away they did a concert to honor his life. they let the fans sing Chester's part of this song, it will bring a tear to your eye.
I wasn't able to go to it but I watched it on TV and I ended up crying I've always been a huge Chester fan and an LP fan.
Long live Chester mf legend
That’s awesome
I had the privilege of seeing them live on the Summer Sanitarium Tour when l saw MetallicA SO long ago. I was such a fan after that. RIP Chester. 😪
I couldn't even watch it for a year after he was gone. It was rough...bawled for hours after watching it.
"You wouldn't even recognize me anymore... Not that you knew me back then", it's possibly one of the best lines a broken-heart can give.
Chester is the only “famous” person I cried for. It’s because of his lyrics and songs made me realize I wasn’t the only one suffering. 😢
Same, their music and his lyrics saved me many times. he saved so many of us and we couldnt save him :(
Same here
100 percent agree. I will always remember when I got the news of his passing. I still cry every time I watch the one more light video.

The more i read, the less i feel he took his life… there’s a theory
He didn’t take his own life. Simple.
Yeah it's sad. Who would have thought Dave Grohl would kill Chester

Perfect comment 😢
This album Hybrid Theory is a banger with every song on it, " By Myself" and "A place for my head" and "Crawling" were big hits as well on this album.
Knowing now how hurt Chester was feeling and how depressed he was, you can hear it in the song. RIP bro. 🙏
Linkin Park was a gift to humanity. So sad that Chester went the way he did.
At least it was on his own terms 😞
Keep going with Linkin Park, every one of their tracks goes so deep. When They Come For Me, Castle Of Glass, Given Up, One More Light... No matter what you pick, you can't go wrong.

You have the best reaction channel hands down, just the way you break things down and always enjoy new things. Much love my man. I love this whole album, it's highschool vibes big time for me so it's a fun walk down memory lane. Had it on repeat.
Gave me goosebumps in highschool and still does to this day 2 decades later. That's how you know. Thank you POLO
I’m so glad you found them. You will love their story. ❤️
This album dropped as my 24 year old self was in the process of leaving my abusive ex husband. It changed my life. So many of us found solace in their lyrics. Linkin Park became my favorite all time band. They got me through a lot of tough times, and still continue to do so.
Chester had one of the strongest, purest voices in rock. 2 others that I rate in that category that have also passed. Chris Cornell and Scott Weiland.
This song is about failure. And everyone can relate to that. It resonates with everyone.
One of the greatest band ever existed in my mind, to bad he couldn't outrun his own demons in the end, you really should check out their song Given up, it lets you see what was going on in his mind, so powerful and so sad at the same time..
I'm 41 and this band wasn't my thing either 20 years ago but im like you music from my past has really started speaking to me when it didn't used to.
Love 'em or hate 'em: Linkin Park is a one of a kind band. Rest in peace & power Chester, always and forever.
ONE MORE LIGHT is an amazing song. Also Leave out all the rest is amazing. Honestly, most of their songs are amazing. lol
Chester's music saved so many lost souls back in the day... and continue to do so even today. It's a tragedy they couldn't save him the same way 😭
I was iny 30s when I discovered Linkin Park. I still love their music. Their lyrics still to this day has meaning & life.
Will love to follow in your LP journey, hugs from Sweden
When I got into LP, was almost 20 years ago now. At that time I was about 35 and going through a divorce from my high-school sweetheart. I moved into town where I was able ti go from dialup to high-speed. I came across the Live In Texas concert on RUclips I literally had this on repeat for months. Chester's pain resonated with everything I had been feeling since I was young...never feeling good enough and working so hard. LP was like therapy. I realized a lot about myself. Anyway bro...that live concert was when only Hybrid Theory and Meteora had been released. These guys are super unique and talented and speak from the ❤️
Live in Texas recording was sooo good
I'm with you 100% on the difference between listening and hearing music and lyrics. And that you looked them up and did some research on them beforehand - very cool :)
I like "One Step Closer" by Linkin Park. You may not like it as much as this one, it's pretty hard core, but it serves its purpose ✌️
RIP C.B.
Thank you. Not enough people point it out.
This was definitely my favourite song. Most breakup songs are amazing, full of passion and emotion.
Though honestly, you cannot go wrong with any songs from Hybrid Theory or Meteora (you have to be a bit more selective after those albums, but there are still some gems to be found)
RiP Chester
after all these years its still hard listening to these guys let alone checking out reactions. yours is one of the very few ive seen. loved it. glad i got to see these guys back in 2003 with Limpbizkit and Metallica. i was only 14y.o. and it was my first big concert i went to. check out these songs (they have music videos)
•"One Step Closer" this was their 1st video
•"Crawling"
•"Numb"
Also i see youre a Jay Z fan.... they did a surprise concert for fans in their fanclub and instead of performing individually they performed together and mashed up their songs. i think the most popular one is "Numb/Encore"
Love your channel! Great response! Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼
Linkin Park.. For me the best band ever! I regret so much for not going to their concert and I had the opportunity! Thanks for your reaction 👍
Can't go wrong reacting to Linkin park,so unique/awesome 🤘🤘 I could suggest soooo many songs like one step closer, numb, crawling, lying from you, paper cut, given up etc.
It's about memories...turning them into power, the good times the bad and not to let the little things get to you and rise from the experience.
Check out When They come for Me, The Catalyst, and Bleed it Out.
Amazing song, emotional, but all their songs take me thru all kinds of emotions. R.I.P. Chester...Thanx so much, Peace
Was lucky to see them in concert with my daughter a few weeks before Chester passed, an absolutely wonderful singer truly missed 💔
You should check out his song Numb, but the version with vocals only... it's hauntingly beautiful
RIP Chester Gone far to SOON. So many things he could have done he will be missed.
You are lucky. You can choose and criticide. Greetings from Finland.
There was nothing about LP's approach which invited this old school rock fan to the party except for Chester's unbridled passion and talent. Ended up being a big fan thanks to him, rest his soul.
Hey Polo, I've watched a variety of your vids over the past few days, this one made me like and sub, great reaction.
effing loved it so much. s tier energy. 😍😍😍
I'm one of the first nation, "creek nation " It's good to see a brother of color that appreciate's music without biases.
there’s a reason this album alone has sold like 27 million copies. the entire thing is phenomenal 💜
great reaction. Thank you
Highly recommend "A place for my head" live in Dallas 2003
Maybe best performance of a live song I’ve ever heard… the crowd coming in with the chanting hits so hard on that song. Also doesn’t hurt that’s my favorite song anyways.
im new to your channel but i appreciate the tidbits you did, ive been listening to linkin since i was 10ish and im 31 and i didnt even know that. subbed instantly. would love to see ur thoughts on a lot of music in this genre, its raw, its emotional, and i think its worth listening too
Linkin Park spoke a lot to me 10years ago ... Many of the songs resonated with my marriage of 32 years , I TRIED SO HARD ...
❤ this song💯 Linkin Park is awesome there first cpl albums Meteora and Hybrid Theory are both 🔥🚒
For real though, how do you sound so much more sincere than most react channels? Keep it up and you're gonna end up with a new sub.... lmao
He was the best!😞😞😞cried my eyes out ❤️❤️❤️❤️
1st off RIP Chester..
Such a great group that actually understood both genres and had the passion and skill to put them together
As for my favorite Link Park song, definitely Forgotten.
SO MANY amazing songs by them. One of my fav: Guilty All the Same feat Rakim.
Also…When They Come for Me-live from NY-MSG / Waiting for the End ❤ / QWERTY Live ‼️/ A Place for my Head Livr from TX…. Too many to list.!!!!
The Catalyst / Lying From You/ …………
All of their songs were beasts.
"Points of Athority" is the one everybody must hear again and again.
It's a must see.
This is a fantastic song and RIP to Chester. Would not have thought you to be a word man, POLO, but ok.
