Judaism, at 4000 years old it is one of the oldest monotheistic religions and the granddaddy of Christianity and Islam. But even though its teachings helped create the world’s two most popular religions many people don’t know what the Jews actually believe.
Judaism developed in the eastern Mediterranean over the last 4000ish years. Today there are about 15 million Jews making it the world’s tenth-largest religion.
What is the Torah? What’s a Covenant? And why does no one worship mermen in the Middle-East anymore? Well Let’s Find out.

skiesboi . Israeli girls of Moroccan origin 👍🌶
@Shield Boss I was not born Jewish, so I know that there is a lot of mis-information about the religion out there. I'll just take two examples, one is that food needs a Rabbi to bless it in order for it to be kosher. This is completely wrong. The laws of kashrut (keeping kosher) are expansive, but it is up to the person consuming the food to offer a blessing before eating. On the other hand, 100 rabbis could bless a bacon sandwich, and it still would not be kosher.
Another example is that it is forbidden to work on the Sabbath. Whilst on some level this is true, it would be more correct to say it is forbidden to do an action that changes the world, irrespective of the amount of exertion required (even this has a few caveats, as they say two Jews, three opinions). As such, I could move 10 heavy chairs around my house all Sabbath, and I have not transgressed, but switching on the light is considered (by Orthodox Judaism) to be a transgression.
I hope that this answers your question somewhat.

Hello! I’m Jewish and you got it pretty much right but I do have some nitpicks, so Yiddish has mostly gone out of use except for certain communities outside of Israel and a couple words still in use for ashkenaz Jews, the Talmud is actually a discussion and explanation on the Mishna which is a collection of laws past down through generations from Moshe, along with those books and many many others we understand how to follow the Torah and I should point out the a lot of the words in this video have Hebrew counterparts that are how most Jews actually refer to those things and a very very small nitpick when you talk about “kosher” you would use the word kashrut but overall you got it pretty right

Aside from some minor pronunciation issues, this is an amazing summary that shows you have a strong understanding of Judaism, and this will hopefully help others learn about my religion as I have about others.
this video is very helpful for understanding and inner standing the topic
It seems odd but for Persian weeks also starts in the day of Shabbat and we call it Shanbeh and other days will depend on when was the last Shanbeh so for example:
Sunday- Yek-shanbeh - 1st (day after) Shabbat
Monday- Do-shanbeh - 2nd (day after) Shabbat
Tuesday- Thé-shanbeh - 3rd (day after) Shabbat
Wednesday- Cahār-shanbeh - 4th (day after) Shabbat
Thursday- Panc-shanbeh 5th (day after) Shabbat
Friday- Jumâh-used to be Sesh-shanbeh 6th (day after) Shabbat
And than comes Saturday which is simply Shanbeh.
I’ve searched the origins of that word and found out the Persian word *Shanbeh* indeed comes from the Hebrew word “Shabbat”. It was surprising but I couldn’t find anything beyond that.
This channel is REALLY underrated tbh ! I love your videos keep it up!

The Mishnah, compiling the rulings and laws of the Great Sanhedrin (parliament/high court) from 10-200 CE, later combined with Jerusalemite and Babylonian commentaries to form the Talmud.
The commentaries of Rashi, 11th century rabbi in Alsace-Lorraine, explaining ambiguous statements in the Tanakh.
The Mishneh Torah, a twelve-volume summary of basic Jewish laws, written by Moses Maimonedes in the late 12th century.
The Shulchan Aruch, 16th century text explaining how Jewish law should be applied to everyday life.

This is wonderful. Thanks for making this video.
Another thing I’d like to add as an Orthodox Jew, is that what the video described as things that are discouraged on Shabbat, we don’t believe they are merely discouraged, they are literally Forbidden.
its a problem with so many jews tbh

Amazing animation along with great information.. I am sure lot of hardwork goes into such a great work.
Great video, you did a great job at getting so much into it! If I may, I'd like to mention few corrections/ additions: it is '613 mitzvot', not 613 mitzvah (mitzvah is the singular, mitzvot is the plural). Since the Hebrew day starts the evening before the Gregorian day, Shabbat starts on Friday at sundown and ends and hour after sunset on Saturday. I have just found your channel and I am loving it- subscribed!
This is such a great resource! Thank you for presenting everything with so much respect and compassion!
Love my Jewish brothers and sisters ❤❤ Very peaceful religion. From a Hindu brother. ❤️
As a religious Jew myself, I am impressed with how accurate your video was. I’m used to people on RUclips - even the most well-intentioned - to get things wrong. But even with the backwards Hebrew letters, all the details you said check out. Kudos to you! And לחיים!
RedCubUK The only upsetting thing was the animations of G-d. It’s a shame that these images were made, for obvious reasons.
Other than that, smashing video.
@@musti12312 Religious Jews refrain from creating an image of G-d. That’s why a shul or synagogue is dressed with more abstract images and concepts that cover Jewish theological ideas without showing an image of the Creator. But we are also used to most non-Jews using images of G-d mostly because Christianity over the centuries has had much less problem with it. And the image used in this video is definitely referencing the Christian concept of G-d. Also, pronouncing and speaking G-d’s actual name out loud is avoided entirely - but again, Cogito says this detail about the religion directly - right before he pronounces the four-letter name which, in Judaism, even if his pronunciation is inaccurate, speaking it out loud is a big no-no. But that’s what the majority-Christian world does all the time. Out side of these things, the details he gives about the religion and theological ideas are accurate, which is very rare on RUclips.
@@musti12312 There are many similarities between the concepts of G-d between Jews and Muslims. For Jews, G-d can occupy a physical place if they so choose. It is said the Shekhinah (the presence of G-d) came down and entered the Holy Temple in Jerusalem once it was constructed and consecrated. The same with the Mishkan - the traveling tabernacle that they carried with them through the desert for forty years. It is even said that the Ark of the Covenant was a kind of "throne" for G-d to reside. Does G-d literally sit on a throne? No. Does G-d have actual corporeal features such as a face and hands? No. G-d is essentially beyond comprehension, and any description of G-d with body parts is just a way for our minds to be able to comprehend G-d in some way. His absolute oneness, his singularity, is what we focus on in our daily prayers through the recitation of the Shema.
As for saying/writing G-d's name, it is in the the ten commandments: You should not say G-d's name in vain. So Jews not only refrain from saying it in vain. We refrain from saying the name at all, lest we say it in vain on accident. In fact, the reason I type G-d with a hyphen is to avoid even spelling out a name that refers to Him. So yes, it is completely out of respect and reverence.

Fun fact, when the Crusaders came rampaging across the middle east, most of the ones who terrorized the Jewish communities of the Levant were Germans, so the local Jews (called Mizrachi Jews) called the Crusaders "Ashkenazim"
As someone who has recently become very interested in the Jewish faith, I've found this to be quite informative. One thing, though: it would have been interesting to have more information about the Jewish interpretation of Heaven and Hell. As I said at the outset, though, many thanks! ❤
There is no hell. Jews worry about doing right in this life. Not about any future reward.
Hell is a place of rehabilitation to purify a soul that has done mistakes and would be sent to Heaven afterwards in Judaism.
There is a realm of "purgatory," a sort of in-between after death, but no, there is no hell. Christianity became popular because miserable people were told they could reach eternal paradise if they believed inthis new god, and were threatened with eternal agony if they didn't. Judaism has no such threats of eternal pain.
Your pronunciation of "Thousands " got me eveytime🤪
I sent your youtube link to my R.E teacher because you make learning fun and i want to learn way more!

There are so many comparisons to Islam! Thank you for summarizing everything, it was still very informative
Being a Baptist Christian, I've been thinking about converting to Judaism when I'm an adult. And watching this video will help me to understand more about the religion. Thanks a lot I appreciate it!
Christianity is the only religion that solves the problem to sin. Every other religion is works based salvation (you get to heaven by being good)
Jesus lived a perfect sinless life and died on the cross for the sins of the world. Repent, put your full faith in Christ and be born again.
God bless! 🙌

Lad,
You did a cracking job here. I'm often looking for teaching resources for children and adults both in and out of the community and often an otherwise great video will have to be ditched becuase of misunderstood or botched details that are either misleading or problematic. But you, sir, dodged every single laser of our complex and confusing religion. Well done!

As a Jew, I really thank you for your work ! It seems like you’ve studied the torah, all the major principes of Judaism and our history have been so well depicted ! Quality content ! 👍🏻
As a Jew, no he didn't. It's only very superficial and touches on only the kittens and rainbows face forward, like telling people communism is simply "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need".
Atheist Of course a non-jew can convert and the converts are considered as jewish souls too, they are even more valuable cause they took this duty willingly and not by birth. It’s just that it’s very long and complicated, if someone converts he will be judged by Hachem as a jew so he must be sure to want it !

Our neighbor in Cairo was a Romaniote Jew from Ionnina. Sadly most were murdered during the war when Germany occupied Greece.
Orthodox Jew here. You did a great job!! Just one point that you missed. The Talmud is a combination of the Torah Shebal Peh (the oral Torah given to Moses on Mount Sinai and passed down from generation to generation, equally important in Orthodox Judaism to the Tanakh or "Torah she' biksav") and the written Torah. The laws are dictated by a combination of these two forms of Torah, and a combination of logical arguments and "mesorah" or laws given to Moses determine the halacha or "laws" that Orthodox Judaism abides by. Overly complicated, but it wouldn't be Judaism if it wasn't 🤣
The oral law wasn’t given to Moses
@@Bqnakzvwnqk that's the belief system. I wasnt saying you have to believe it 🙃
Hi there....how are you?? Do you live in Israel? How's is the life there??

740: In 740 A.D. in a land locked between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, known as Khazaria, a land which today is predominantly occupied by Georgia, but also reaches into Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, and Romania, the modern Jewish race is born. A modern Jewish race that incidentally is not Jewish.
How can this be, you ask? Well at that time, the Khazarian people felt vulnerable people as they had Muslims on one side of them and Christians on the other side of them, and thus constantly feared attack from either side. Furthermore, the Khazarian people were of neither faith and instead practiced idol worship, which made them ripe for invasion by a people who wished to convert them to an established faith.
The Khazarian King, King Bulan, decided in order to protect themselves against attack, the Khazarian people must convert to one of these faiths, but which one? If they converted to the Muslim faith they would risk attack by the Christians and if they converted to the Christian faith they would risk attack by the Muslims.
He had an idea. There was another race that he was aware was able to deal with both the Muslims and the Christians on either side of him, predominantly in matters of trade. A race that also dealt with Khazarians in the same manner. That race was the Jews. King Bulan decided if he instructed his people
to convert to Judaism he could keep both the Muslims and the Christians happy, as they were both already willing to trade with the Jews, so this is what he did.
King Bulan was right. He would live to see his country unconquered, and his people convert to Judaism enthusiastically and adopt the principles of the holiest Jewish book, the Talmud. There are many things the king would not have to see, however.
He would not live to see his Asiatic race of converts to Judaism, one day represent 90% of all the Jews on the planet, and call themselves Ashkenazi Jews, when in fact they were not Jews, but simply an Asiatic race of people who converted to the Jewish religion, whilst still continuing to speak the Khazarian language of Yiddish, totally different to the language of Hebrew.
He would not live to see his people turn to the descendants of a man, far more powerful than him, who would be born just over 1,000 years later in Germany, a man named Bauer, who would spawn the Rothschild dynasty.
He would not live to see this dynasty usurp the wealth of the world through deception and intrigue, which they would finance through the vast riches they accumulate as they usurp the wealth of the world by gaining control of the world's money supply.
He would not live to see his people demand a homeland for themselves in Palestine as their birthright, and ensure every Prime Minister there from its inception in 1948 is an Ashkenazi Jew, even though the true homeland of the Ashkenazi Jews, Khazaria, is his kingdom, some 800 miles away.
And he would not live to see his people fulfill bible prophecy, as the "synagogue of Satan."

I am just waiting how you'd explain Christianity. I am kinda excited for it honestly. And see if you can cover all the branches and go in depth of the religion.
Knowledge gained. Thanks 👍
This is so well done! You do a great job showing the variety of Judaism :) I grew up in an area of the US that was about a 50/50 split between Christians and Jews, and I have definitely learned a lot from my neighbors; especially the idea that a lot of Jews aren’t sure about what happens next, as in an afterlife, but trust enough in the relationship with God that their people have had for thousands of years to follow the laws and make a better world.
Monkeys in the end
Your video is so amazing, I am doing a religion course and your video is the most interesting video I came across. It caught my attention. I hope you continue ! :D
This was very well done! I have to mention that the Torah is a scroll not a book like the clip art, Judaism was the first monotheistic religion, and the word Tanakh is spelled wrong in Hebrew. Hebrew is written from right to left not left to right. It should be תנך not ךנת. Otherwise you did very well for someone who isn’t otherwise familiar with our religion and culture!
0:55 Why is the word תנ"ך written in the wrong direction? 🤨
