  • Conan the Barbarian sword, from the 1982 movie made of wood. My brother requested a sword for Christmas, he was hoping for something more metallic.
    Please comment, and suggest my next project, stay tuned as I add more content to my channel.
    Thanks for watching.

    @Aaron-ge7ho Год назад

    Great job!
    If i had this craftsmanship skill and tools i would do it "sandwiching" some kind of iron bar or any kind of resistent metal as its core, just for that hours when we want to feel barbaric wielding a gods crafted sword like the Atlantean Sword.

    • @therogueshideout
      @therogueshideout  Год назад +1

      I am actually going to make one for someone out of ipe hardwood, they wanted a train with it. Ipe is a very dense wood and will add a substantial amount of weight to it. But of course it is a sword you have to wield it as you crush your enemies and see them driven before you!

    • @Aaron-ge7ho
      @Aaron-ge7ho Год назад

      @@therogueshideout Yeah! Thats the thing most nerds pretending to be "medieval" fighters don't get: unless you are training with some kind of musketeer rapier, real swords are HEAVY even not being so big/long. Even a japanese main saber (38~41" long katana) weights about 2~3 pounds and can be feeled heavier than that to control the blow when you swing.
      Have my quota of sword practice and some dojo coulegues that i met always criticised my training battons for its weight, but it wasn't only to have a more steady tool to teach my muscles the practice, it was because i always faced the practice as "if i need to really wield something like it some time, i need to be ready for it as it really are", which a light stick wouldn't provide (most guys at this places wave theirs as kids playing with branches that fell from a tree after a storm. 🤣
      Hope the owner of this order you mentioned enjoy the hardwood-skull-crusher practice he/she will have with this new mastercraft so much or more than you should enjoy work on it!

      Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Funny I struggled with carving the hilt and pummel, I was running out of time to get the sword finished. That's why I cheated and used the laser engraver to etch the designs in it. Even then I had a hard time keeping the detail in it.

  • @Cascalonginus1
    @Cascalonginus1 Год назад +3

    One tip that would have looked much better. The Hilton wrapping wasn't twisted wire, it was linen cord. The wire is too bright on a wood replica I think think the linen or hemp or jute just some kind of string wrapped and lacquered would have looked more right.

    • @therogueshideout
      @therogueshideout  Год назад

      I thought about that, but I liked the contrast of the wire on the wooden sword. But maybe if I had blued or oil dipped the wire to bring down the luster. If I make another I will have to give it a shot.
