When I saw this ending, I tried to figure out how they were able to make a watercolor filter effect that looked so realistic, when no other attempt had ever gotten the textures just right. I can't believe they actually did it by hand, but that explains why it looked so incredible.

I love makeine: too many losing heroines thru and thru. But seeing this, that the endings r done in watercolour on physical paper is both amazing and impressive. In highschool I found watercolour to be much more skill intensive then normal colouring methods. And drawing on physical paper means if u fuck up u either have to stick w it or restart the entire frame/art piece. There is no edit the mistake and move on like w cell shading or watever it’s called. Thus I can’t help but love and appreciate the care and dedication the animation team had for this anime! ❤

i remember seeing this after ed dropped at i think it was episode 8, I was really amazed that the ed was hand drawn or hand animated(?). Im actually glad that I discovered this anime, it really ignited that spark in my brain to continue watching animes, and reading mangas and novels. I have been rewatching shows for a long while now instead of finding new ones, but man Makeine really gives me that energy to explore more and find interesting animes, mangas, or novels to experience. Actually I went out and read the novel for this anime too! I enjoyed the novel for this anime, it's easy to read and I had a good fun while reading it. Makeine surely be one of my all time favorites.
I definitely enjoyed the anime when it was airing. I had read the manga a week before it started airing, but the anime looked so good. I especially liked how each girl had their own ending. Komari’s ending was definitely my favorite, due to the hand draw watercolor. (She also had the best arc, but that’s just my opinion.)

Thanks for the video, this is a huge inspiration for me, the way the artist works on wet and makes all of those shades so consistently is something I really admire. I'm curios how much time this has taken tho, even for a professional it must have been at least a week right?

Drawing and animating on paper was the standard. Nowadays, it’s mostly digital, but paper is still used now and then (probably a preference decision.)
