Marco Minnemann is a multi talented guy who not only plays different instruments but also composes music. He is one of the most original and progressive drummer that the music has and earned him numerous prizes for his drumming books and videos. He was the first choice to be a member of Dream Theater, but he refused to accept the lucrative job by a clause in the contract that almost completely limited participation in alternative projects parallel. Super drummer Mike Mangini was finally chosen.
A let down only for the dumb ones. Marco could play the entire DT catalog no problem…Just as Mangini can. Marco never wanted to be in DT. Marco, like Gavin Harrison, would have been perfect for Frank Zappa were he still alive.
@Baktor Im proud, I like, Im fan of hes drumming techniques, I have 3 video clinics of him.... But thats not metal... Thats a fusion like fill with som¡e elements of metal
Indeed, but no, Minnemann did not refuse the job, he simply did not get it. Both Mangini an Minnemann were incredibly good (technically and creatively), but on a personal level Mangini won the job. BTW, I was supporting Marco at the time of the auditions. :)
@jjpl2001email Buff, I lost interest in this discussion, so many years defending metal fans as open minded people and now I find you.... Good luck with anything you try and good bye...
Panthrax The fact that they had to go with noone less than a high calibre player like Minnemann as a replacement, does speak volumes. Ventor is a beast on the kit! Check out his intricate drum work on the Endless Pain album.
James Smith Ventor is probably a better thrash drummer. He is a pro, hits the snare like a beast, is consistent and has great ideas, almost melodic. But dude, Marco is so much more technical they're both great, music ain't a competition so let's not put down Marco eh
Two different type of drummers.. Ventor is a kick ass thrash drummer - Minnemann a technical genius. But overall is Ventor a new beginner compared to Minnemann.
One of my all time favorite drummers!

gran baterista, ojala siga tocando con Kreator!
yeah, you're right, I just saw the video about this interview taken at a drum clinic, or something.
Marco is a GOD. Kinda odd , him playing Kreator music.......but.........I think he added a strong edge to Kreator ........
Only for the southamerican tour on 2009 Marco toured with them. I don't know why Ventor was absent.

What happaned to Ventor??? Who is this guy? I think he just kicked the shit out of ventor.
@Baktor after you..
this guy is a very good drummer, but ventor is THE KREATOR drummer,
@jjpl2001email Just because it's musical and creative it's not metal anymore? Dude...
@jjpl2001email Buff, I lost interest in this discussion, so many years defending metal fans as open minded people and now I find you.... Good luck with anything you try and good bye...
@Baktor no, its just because the style... the stile is not metal
the brutal metal is gone, ladies and gentleman... IT'S CIRCUSTIME!!!
@wavade yep, i know that, and I appreciate it, but that's not metal
The best drummer of the world i think... BUT!!! thats not a metal solo!!!!
So what.. The crowd loved it =)
@Dieddyn yup genre is irrelevant to what marco plays it seems
Good drumming, but no match for Ventor!
+James Smith Hahaha. Marco Minnemann is one of the greatest drummers to date. You are truly an ignorant man.

***** Only if you check out Marco's work with The Aristocrats.
