    Thank you so much for this video! It helped me locate the cable that connects to the electric motor. All I did was put the sunshade in the down position and then unplugged the cable to the motor. Turned on my car and no more buzzing sound when putting it in reverse! :D Saved me $1,000 at the dealership. I laughed at them when they said they can go ahead and fix the sunshade by replacing the motor. Honestly I rather not have the shade up, especially when driving at night. Kinda hard to see it with it up. Once again, thank you so much for this quick and easy step by step video.

    This is one of the best diy videos I've seen in a very long time. You were as detailed as you needed to be and you didn't take an unusually long time detailing the necessary steps to disassemble and reassemble deck. My wife has a 2006 Avalon Limited that has a malfunctioning rear shade. I had to disconnect the fuse because the shade stopped moving up and down but the motor continues running as if it jumped the track or something. I will be using this video to help finally repair the shade. I believe the dealer wanted a ridiculous amount of money to repair rear shade. Thanks again for posting.

    One thing I did when reinstalling the side panels is the plastic retainer by below the slot where the metal pull out tab is, I installed the peg into the whole before installing it. This way you will slide 2 closest to you into there slots and push the other two into place. This way made it a breeze because I was constantly pushing one of those retainer clips out of the whole etc. Hope this helps someone.

I've had it in and out three times and can't get it lined up in a way where the sun shade is able to open cleanly through the slot in the parcel shelf. I just got it working too - any tips? Seems like the portion at the front of the slot where the sun shade comes out is too high and the sun shade gets stuck on it.

      Sounds like a part of the panel isn't clicked in. Bang on it with your first. If that's not working, wire or the insulation mat might be getting in the way of the panel clicking into place. Remove the panel and take a look to see if something isn't in the right place.

      See link in description. There's nowhere you can buy an affordable sunshade assembly. If you already have a sunshade, you'd just need to purchase the motor to get it working again. That is almost certainly the culprit. It's less than $200 after shipping. It's for a Mercedes, but it's a direct fit. Very easy to replace once you have the sunshade out of the car. I have a video detailing that repair coming out in the next couple weeks. About halfway done with editing.

      Not sure about 2014 unfortunately. The only sunshade you can buy is from Toyota or eBay and the former will include a motor and the latter may or may not include a working motor. Hello sir,
    Thank you very much for this well detailed video. I have followed your steps but I am having difficulty removing the passenger side side airbag piece. The driver side gave me trouble but it came out surprisingly lol could I just lift up the rear deck and leave the passenger part alone?

    • @jboi6049
      @jboi6049  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching Sam! You can try to lift up the rear deck, that might actually take the airbag panel with it and you'd be good to go! Try some of these ideas below.
      1. The airbag panel might be getting caught on the lip, see 6:34 try pushing the panel towards the rear of the car THEN pulling forward and slightly up.
      2. Try hitting the panel with your fist, it might help loosen up whatever is making it difficult.
      3. Try pulling the airbag panel harder. The panel clips would likely be the first failure point and they're cheap to replace, see description.

      Good luck. I’ve done the subwoofer fix before. Aside from gluing the cone. When you get it out, there’s a burnt orange fabric part called the spider (google it). The glue was worn off there and also causing a rattle. If the edges can be lifted up, put some glue there while you have it out.

    • @jboi6049
      @jboi6049  2 года назад +1

      Glad you got it off! I’m not an audio expert, so I just preferred to repair, it sounds awesome now. The mesh part is glued to a black plastic ring. The black plastic ring is then glued to the metal frame of the subwoofer. I believe there are some screws as well. Just use a flathead screwdriver to pry between the plastic and metal. It should come off easily.

    The link you provided is to a mercedes part. Are you saying that this mercedes part works perfectly in an 08 avalon?

    • @jboi6049
      @jboi6049  2 года назад +1

      Yes, and it doesn't just work perfectly, it's the same exact motor. Toyota used a motor manufactured by a German company called Bühler. If you remove your factory sunshade motor, you'll see what I'm talking about. Mercedes happened to use the same exact Bühler motor in several of their cars during this era. The website I linked makes you enter a VIN# for a Mercedes that uses this motor. With a quick google search of a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CL 500 for sale (or any other model listed on the link), you can find a Mercedes VIN# that will work. Otherwise, they cancel your order.
      Audis of this era also used the same motor, but they are much more expensive for whatever reason. Mercedes is the cheapest I've found.

      I added a Google Shopping link in the description that has some options currently in stock. Please know, this is just for the sunshade motor, you will need to swap the new motor onto your original sunshade assembly. It's intuitive once you get the sunshade assembly out of the car. The sunshade motor was the failure point for almost every Toyota sunshade, your sunshade assembly is almost certainly still good.

      Unfortunately I can't help you there. The dealerships sell the unit for over $1k, you would probably also need to get a wiring harness and a new rear deck cover that has the opening for the sunshade. The Limited trim Avalon's also use a different junction block than the other trims. It would be quite difficult to wire up. I think it'd probably be easier to sell your current Avalon and upgrade to a Limited trim Avalon. The price difference between the lowest and highest trim is quite small on the used market for an '06. Lots of other great features you get too like rain sensing wipers, ventilated seats, push to start, and the Toyota Smart Key!
