One of the best videos I've seen. Actually based on kit I have, not a generic video, specific and informative. Much appreciated. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
I just got into 3D resin printing and your tutorial video on how to change the FEP sheet is the best and easiest to understand that I've found. Thank you so much!!🥳
Great tip on the magnetic screw pan and also the tip about the resin residue! Breaking comments into multiple for your algorithm 😊I hope your channel gets the million subs!
Thanks for this, very useful and well made. I'm just about to change mine for the first time after moving up from a Mars 3 so good to see you didn't need to tension it using a cap... one less thing to worry about!
the original guide from elegoo suggests you to place a piece of something soft under the film when fastening it in the frame, to increase slack and reduce tension when it is installed in the vat
I can see why they did this however it's not super tight on the frame to begin with. I have been doing this with out clearly and haven't had any issues. I'll have to try doing this the Elegoo way and see if there is a difference although I am not sure there will be.
@@ThatDudes3DPrints Its pretty much standard practice on all SLA machines to put a spacer in (typically a 8-10mm bottlecap). It gives the film enough slack so it can be seated deep enough on the vat frame without being over tensioned.
Thank you for this tutorial-its very thorough. I just started 3D printing with the Saturn 4 Ultra and got my first hole in the PFA. Thankfully I took the advice of another channel and had a screen protector for the LCD and the leak was minor. After watching your video I feel much more confident to replace the liner. :)
How did you buy the screen protector and which one was it? :D I'm at the point where I need to replace the pfa and recognized slight leaking at the edges. Now would be the perfect time to install a protector. :D
Would heating up a scratch awl or something work a bit better you think to make the holes or would the heat from the tip of the awl warp the film too much?
Can you tell me what a screen exposure should look like? My buildplate fell on my FEP, punctured it, and cracked the screen, I tried the exposure test Elegoo Technology and all I get are a bunch of letters and a line across. I have emailed them a photo but was wondering if you might know 🙏
some sites tell me that it matters what direction the FEP is installed. does it matter if the side with blue film originally or clear protective film originally is "up" , Ie the side that the resin will rest on? thanks!
Great question! I might have to do some digging as I too am a bit new to this but I have just put it on randomly and haven't really had any issues or loss in quality
@@ThatDudes3DPrints Thanks so much, I am nrew to resin printing as well. Have been doing filament printing for a few years. I am having a lot of issues with the resin printer sticking to the PFA and then tearing it when i try to remove. Am sure I am doing something wrong.... but changing the film every print is getting to be a downer... Thanks again for the answer.
Not sure if this is the case for all FEP manufacturers but the last one I fitted gave instructions as to which way on the packet. I think the issue is that the FEP is a sandwich of different materials and fitting wrong way causes issues with durability rather than print quality. On the FEP I’m using the blue side should be up as in towards the building plate. I don’t know if this is a standard but would hope so.
Switched to a bambu printer for the first time and made me feel like resin printers are stuck in the stone age in comparison with processes like these. Also the fep on these larger printers wants to tear more easily. Quite a few people complaining about holes and resin leaking after just a few prints for the saturn.
Yeah I can agree with you but resin printer have not been as popular as FDM so they have had more people giving feed back and there likes and dislikes but seems like now resin printers are also starting to novate a little!
Do we not need to use a tensioner for PFA? I just replaced mine without a tensioner and the first print did the bottom layers and then failed from the middle out.
I'm new to 3D printing and I want to buy this printer. Is it necessary to replace it, and how much use do you need before replacing it, or does it depend on time?
It depends on many things like yes time and damage so if there is damage but say you just changed it you should change it again but it can also be after a certain amount of prints. The printer does tell you when to change it you just need to update it manually once you did.
It depends on the state of the sheet honestly sometimes I can change it when the printer tells me other times it might have some scratches or dents and I have to change it.
So I know that other printers out there might have you do the stretching of the sheet and can be a bit of a pain I would recommend watching a video on your printer to get a better idea. Getting a perfect stretch is crucial to ensure no leaking happens and that your FEP lasts and functions best.
This is what I hate the MOST about 3D printing, the MILLION screws you have to take out and replace to change the FEP. It's ridiculous, so much technology why can't Elegoo find a better way to do it :(
I honestly doubt they will. It's a gasket seal The only equal would be fusing them together I will agree tho.. its the one think we all don't look forward to
@@corocsat8469 They could use some clips to hold the metal lid/seal, like little leavers? Or even just some metal fasteners that reduces the amount of screws to maybe 6
@@ThatDudes3DPrints indeed! Worst thing is: two days after I changed the fep due to dents - I got some NEW dents and now I have to change it AGAIN 😂 Btw, where did you buy those screwdrivers that you use?

Your videos are great! This looks annoying if we have to cut our own holes, but lucky-people-problems, so I’ll survive.

That's a good question not sure about the heating up part but using one of those might work better.

Reddit tells me I need a new screen
7-12 days and 130$+12$ for screen protector. I’m such an idiot
It happens unfortunately and yeah it’s expensive just have to be a bit more careful next time.

do you think is can print dental models?
Yes should be able to you might just need special resin for that particular thing!

I haven't had any issues the way that I do it but if you feel more comfortable doing it another way by all means. I am just showing you what I do.

Do you change your FEP with the 4 ultra says you have reach the FEP limit?
I do only because I am still learning this machine however I have seen some people who go past the recommended time and are fine
How often do you have to change these PFA sheets
It depends on the state of the sheet honestly sometimes I can change it when the printer tells me other times it might have some scratches or dents and I have to change it.
Does the brand of FEP really matter?
Or 100%sure I don’t see why it would honestly but I have only ever used Elegoo FEPs
Ive seen other FEP sheets using soda bottle cap for stretching, how important is this?
So I know that other printers out there might have you do the stretching of the sheet and can be a bit of a pain I would recommend watching a video on your printer to get a better idea. Getting a perfect stretch is crucial to ensure no leaking happens and that your FEP lasts and functions best.
Use an Awl to punch a hole. The bigger it is, the wider the hole you can punch through.
I'm going to have to get some!
@ThatDudes3DPrints I use one, makes it way easier and less chance of the sheet moving.

Did you update the film usage on the printer?
Is it normal for the screws to become loose, after you already tightened them twice? I could keep going in circles indefinately. 😂
🤣 i feel you! No once they are down tight should be good. Unless your like me who forgets to tighten some all the way down lol
