I've to say, with respect, that when Vishy was elected to FIDE, I had hoped that he would play a very active role to change the archaic nature of FIDE and make it more modern player friendly. But that hasn't happened. And understandable that Vishy probably doesn't like getting into too much of the decision making. But I had wished that he did more proactively. Hope that FIDE evaluates what's going on. If you look at this incident with some perspective, FIDE has a no jeans rule, Magnus forgets the rule, when warned he admits honest mistake and asks for one more round allowance. Instead, FIDE has somehow decided that removing one of the greatest players and definitely the most popular, marketable player is a better decision. Over an utterly insignificant rule. True, Magnus could've been more compliant. But individuals can have ego-driven decisions. FIDE like organizations should not make ego-based decisions. Have to think about what's best for the event/chess. It's like a chicken with no head kind of decision, just blind technicality following. Now hoping they are talking to Magnus to get him to play the Blitz at least.
Rules are rules and should be followed. Not knowing or forgetting the rule does not exempt you from the obligation to follow it. And its your obligation to get informed of the rule. Imagine if you play a game of chess, and the guy forgot the en passant rule and says “honest mistake, i forgot”. It doesnt work like that. One shouldnt complain about someone enforcing the rules which exist for everyone. No one is exempt, even Magnus. They gave him an opportunity to change, he refused. The hotel was nearby. I dont see how they were unreasonable,
Magnus was already warned previously and chose not to follow of his own accord. Just because magnus is marketable and famous doesn't mean he should be devoid of rules everyone follows. Chess existed before him, and will exist after him.
Every sport has rules and dress codes. This isn't some strange concept. FIDE is bigger than anyone one player. Kasparov tried to prove otherwise and it didn't work. This time is no different. If players in general want more relaxed rules they need to band together BEFORE events and file a petition with FIDE to come to an agreement. Not act like children when rules are enforced.
It isnt about whether a rule is significant or not. Bottom line is that it has to be enforced equally. Whats the point of having rules if it depends on how much eyeballs you get or how good you are at chess. Arbiters have no choice but to follow said rules.

I'm not sure if there is a vote or not but I know I've never heard of it so probably there isn't any vote. Vishy looked rather relieved at the end that the interview was over; tough questions

Professionally conducted interview.
@@MrSupernova111 Sports have uniforms to denote teams and help officiating and stat collecting. the only thing relatable he could name was tennis, notice he couldn't name golf lol, and in tennis its only one single event at wimbleton where they wear white. Magnus looked more presentable than all the FIDE folks, including Vishy ( no disrespect).
@@niket2608 hence my point, address the issue at the beginning of the day, not the end!
He wasn’t warned on day 1 as he was properly dressed according to the code. He was informed after his second game on day 2 that his attire was violating the dress code and was fined 200usd and asked to change for the next round. Magnus didn’t comply and continued to play game no 3 for the day and so they escalated it to not pairing him for game 4 after which Magnus decided to withdraw
@@anshumanswain9903 he was WARNED on day 1. On day 1 too, he was in jeans
I agree. fide should change dress code rules based on this incident. And magnus should play Fide events again following all the rules
That is a very nice interview 👏👏👏👏
Is that Magunus move something related to his new Saudi 🇸🇦 led initiative??
It won't make FIDE any clever in this matter though!
If Magnus was willing to adhere tomorrow, they shd have just used common sense, fined him and moved on instead of acting like lawyers
They're Nazi thinking they're relevant. But chess is just a hobby 😅
Right decision, but FIDE should find better mechanisms wrt handling such things, so that it doesnt give the ulterior motivated players excuses to make a mockery of things.
the rule is aboout TORN JEANS. magnus jeans was clean looking. too the real point FIDE has threathned players to not play freestyle. in other words they want to have a monopol on chess and the players who play it. a form of slavery.
I think we are missing context here, if you reviewed the Fide rules it is not explicitly stated that jeans is banned, what being stayed is wearing jeans with holes in it.
I guess this is what happen when rules and policy is vague and not specific.
I was very angry because of what happened to Magnus, but when I learned that Vishy Anand was behind what happened, the anger went away. Because I know that Vishy Anand is a smart man and knows what he is doing .. No one is above the law, even if he is Magnus or Kasperov
maybe u are indian chess troll?
Vishy wasn't behind this you muppet. He clearly said that Magnus did not appeal, so his role was limited. He tried to talk to the CEO & the CEO was stubborn, as was Magnus.
Happened exactly the same when Venus Williams had to literally change her pink bra after the rain break at Wimbledon as they’ve an all-white policy. Like them or hate them, rules are rules!
Wondering which creep noticed it first😂
@@vijayjoseph3853 One need not be a creep to notice glaring bright pick in an otherwise solid white outfit.
A player is not bigger than the game, but some players like magnus make the game bigger, fide should try to discuss and sort these issues.
You also have to ask yourself if fide is the game. Few people would say FIFA was the same as soccer even if they control the biggest tournament.
Magnus has been throwing a lot of tantrums and displaying a haughty attitude.High time people called him out for it.His arrogance is actually hurting chess.
Spot on. How opposite is the humility and professionalism of Gukesh, and every player who wore the Indian blazer at the Olympiad.
the rule is aboout TORN JEANS. magnus jeans was clean looking. too the real point FIDE has threathned players to not play freestyle. in other words they want to have a monopol on chess and the players who play it. a form of slavery.
ye lol, in fact this was a very funny and interesting world championship right? lol
@@publicdomain3506 it is not go read the rules for this tournament
Vishy has officially turned into a machine. Ffs man, use your mind or lose sponsors
When dressing becomes more important, than the game. It show FIDE has gone off the rails.
6 years ago, there was no strict rules about jeans - dressing.
Magnus was dressed The ultimate Business Casual outfit. If FIDE thinks thats the fight to take on...? Making rules, for the sake of having a rule.
he said he will change the next day. Yeah cant beat him overall, lets fire him away so others can shine. Great strategy
HE WAS PLAYING CRAP HE WASNT GOING TO WIN AND WAS THROWING A TANTRUM
Fide villian arc
Imagine if all chess players protested by wearing jeans.
That would be cool but very unlikely@@superfluous5162
Or more correct Magnus villain arc
@@Dunker6577 Magnus was always the VILLIAN
@@AP-pd4jm the rule is aboout TORN JEANS. magnus jeans was clean looking. too the real point FIDE has threathned players to not play freestyle. in other words they want to have a monopol on chess and the players who play it. a form of slavery. so you calling magnus a villain just shows how jealous or misled you are by hate for the man.
If other players obliged then magnus too should have, otherwise it would have been unfair to them who changed in between the game.
Fide isn't wrong here.
the rule is aboout TORN JEANS. magnus jeans was clean looking.
@ normal jeans is also not allowed, have a look over the rules again.
*VISHY SIR* ❤❤❤
Fide needs Magnus more than he needs Fide!
That's actually bad.
He was presentable these guys need to rethink their dress code.
He only lacked the pants but shoes and jacket were elegant
If you have looked his last game, half of his butt was visible in those below waist jeans
magnus is best player now that doent mean he can do whatever he like in the tournaments
Neither can FIDE, you idiot he was already warned and fined , so what's the point of forfeiting him from playing the last and only round. It was not that big of an issue that you ban someone from playing, rule is rule but if broken the penalty should be appropriate and according to the severity of the rule that is broken. Like you won't sentence death to someone who has just stolen something from a store.
Whoever wins the tournament is diminished because they didn’t beat the best.
people are missing the point here......for one the rule is aboout TORN JEANS. magnus jeans was clean looking. too the real point FIDE has threathned players to not play freestyle. in other words they want to have a monopol on chess and the players who play it. a form of slavery.
You know what really hurts? When you think they will chase you, but in contrary they just let you go.
Magnus did not withdraw because that rule is nonsense, but because it hurts his EGO that FIDE just let him go. Maybe he thinks that him being the greatest figure in chess right now, FIDE is nothing without him.
The tension between various top players and FIDE has been boiling for a while now. This was only the final straw. FIDE will ruin the game.
There’s no ego, only dumb rules
Right! Magnus go home! Bye!
Rules are rules and global orgs like FIDE can only run smoothly if every1 follows the same rules. So in this case I stand with FIDE even though Magnus is a gr8 player. But then no player is above the game
@@desi_patriot Correct, and that should be so obvious! I don’t get all this support for the guy, it can only be bots I guess.
For say in the game of cricket, what if a player in a test match format goes into the field wearing some yellow coloured shoes. Let the player be the greatest of all time , for say, sachin tendulkar. Will he ever be able to do so? There are certain rules which are to be adhered, regarding how logical a rule is might be debatable, but this is not the way to do so for sure.
If u r a sports fan, u would know that there are many controversial rules in almost every sport
The discussion whether the rule is stupid or not, can be taken after the tournament. For now it is there and has to be followed. They made Ian change. You can critisize Fide yes, but i dont think they had a choice in the end. I am not sure, but surely there is some "breach of contract"-material and stuff with sponsors as well?
Jean gambit declined
You sure? It seems like "Jean gambit accepted" to me.
Matter of principle states that Magnus must obey in place fide rules in fide conducted tournaments. In other private tournaments he can play shirtless in shorts if he desires. Truth is when he saw rapid title has slipped from his hands he created a drama to exit.
He as lot of titles don't judge he did it for the loss dont over judge ....
Fide rule does not state about jeans, and does not state that they should be changed immediately. Magnus offered a reasonable solution
*AS VISHY SIR SAID, SOMETHING WORSE GOING ON BEHIND THE SCENES*
It’s an evading move to quit in 81st place, and also an economical move to blame fide (and later promote whatever else he has). We don’t need a guy like that. Go home, carlsen! Bye!
