When Vishy plays like this he is every bit as entertaining as Tal in his prime. My head spins trying to sort through how he could possibly see the combinations of moves he seems to always find. Great video and analysis!

I met him a few years ago in the Cap d agde event. I exchange a few words with him about his book and how to use it. I still have the picture of him and i on my desk. Nice nice guy !!!
Picasso once said it took me a lifetime to learn to paint like a child again... In this game Anand played like a complete beginner, or at least his play reminded me of how I used to play before I learned how to play chess... With the difference that he crushed a GM.
Absolute jaw dropping genius from Anand, and before computers existing to validate his moves, shows Anands true genius and passion for the game...
I can see in my imagination Anand prior to that game playing on his own with these variations on his board some cold night of winter drinking hot chocolate and hearing the drizzle of the rain outside planning out his moves!
Chess is a wonderful game :)

I am from India. This game of vishy reminded me of Magician Mikhail Tal. Vishy plays like magician in this game. Absolutely insane. ❤
Its more like vishy himself . Tal's style was much different than the great attacker's in chess like Alekhine,Fischer,Kasparov,Anand,
Shirov,Nezhmetdinov and others
I bet 50 years later Vishy will be called the magician from india just like Tal was called the magician from Riga

I can't wait for Ivanchuk's best game, although he has so many that showcase his insane creativity and attacking genius. I hope you'll feature his game against Kasparov from 1991 Linares tournament.

If anyone ever doubted that Vishy is a genius, they just need to watch this. What a beast of a talent. Here is how I would feel playing Vishy.

Seriously. This game is also a very famous one, but the Aronian game has been beaten to death already
Unpopular opinion but for me, the Aronian game was diminished because it was, in Aronian's words, a "theoretical trap". The standout moves Bc5! and Ne5! were computer moves Anand discovered in his world championship prep. It's still a great game because Anand was able to finish the attack and found f5! over the board.
I'm partial to the Aronian game because I watched it live in one of the first Chess tournaments I ever watched, but I get the point about it being a computer discovered theoretical trap.

@@bosniandankmemer1821 All great games inevitably involve the opponent making some mistakes so I don't see the mistakes by Botvinnik as diminishing the game's greatness at all.

Wow. This may be my favorite game ever. I just love how none of the moves felt like the engine's best move...they all felt like someone who was just a few steps ahead at all times.

Just a small note, highest civilian honour or award in India is the Bharat Ratna (which translates to "India's gem"), second highest is Padma Vibhushan which you mentioned. I think you wanted to say that Vishwanathan Anand was the first sports person to get this award in 2007, he's not the only sports person though, Sachin Tendulkar and Edmund Hillary followed him in the 2008, and MC Mary Kom in 2020. I was thinking, since you're doing "best game of " pieces, what about some analysis of what makes top players different to each other? : like fav openings , weaknesses , sac they play more often than not... i heard somewhere that vishy is very comfortable with knights instead of bishops for example... the kind of things that top players need to remember when playing each other .
for example: if you're going against wesley so and you go for this opening chances are that.... / or dont try this against hikaru because he wins 80% of the time with this opening.

crazy man this is actually very instructive, in so many low level games i play your queen is almost as important as your king, it seems like he leveraged that idea because i bet he was not prepared for that bishop move. He just had too many threats.
