      @@jespacey Nah, Larry Brown was a smart coach who knew how to balance the fun and discipline, you will never hear a player say they didnt appreciate Brown, Even Iverson acknowledged that Brown did what was best for him. Gundy did what was best for Gundy.
      Look how Mobley and Francis gelled, why did he think they were distracted when they were so in sync on the court.
      Thats why he aint coaching, Brown never told Iverson to change his style of play, you do that when it is hurting the team not because you want to see a different player.

    • @Antygrvity69
      @Antygrvity69 2 года назад +1

      @@jespacey: Pat Rielly & Larry Brown are control coaches, however, they allow room for players to play their game within their system. Both Jeff & Stan don't understand that, which is why it's tough for them today. Which is why Pay Rielly came down & took over for Jeff, Jeff was about to let a championship get away.

  • @Tuck2306
    @Tuck2306 2 года назад +7

    Steve Francis was an incredible talent. I think that had Rudy T remained his coach his career would have been more successful. The fact that I have never been a Jeff van Gundy fan is irrelevant. He was not the right fit for Francis’ talent Jeff attempted to instill the Pat Riley (Knicks).warrior mentality of grind it out basketball,of Ewing Oakley and the late Anthony Mason. That bully ball works if that’s your personnel. However Riley had a different philosophy when he coached the showtime lakers. Jeff when he took over for Rudy in Houston had a talent base more suited to play that showtime style. However Jeff tried to convert them and this undercut Steve’s talent. That’s why Jeff went for the trade of T Mac. It can also be argued Jeff’s style also underutilized Yao Ming’s ascension as well. For his size Yao was pretty nimble. He could have been a stretch 5 for his accurate shooting, nifty footwork and ball handling skills for a man of his size . Jeff wanted him to be more of a traditional back to basket grind it out guy. He wanted Stevie along with Cuttino Mobley to be more disciplined. Jeff seem to want to walk up, dump it into Yao and let’s have action off of that. Francis was more run and gin. Jeff wasn’t having it.. It just didn’t work pairing Steve and Jeff. Francis is not without blame. With the early death of his mom and the even earlier exit from nuclear family of his father Stevie had to do a lot of growing up on his accord. His decision making and maturity never really caught up with his talent. If he had just had a touch more discipline to go with that tremendous talent the sky would have been too low of a limit for him. Too bad so sad….

    Next to Lenny Bias he might have been the most talented player to wear a Terp uniform. I knew deep down he was a one and done--no way he wasn't going to be a high lottery pick in the upcoming NBA draft. However, I think Gary Williams is right--that 98-99 Maryland team with Steve Francis had Final-4 potential. But their 6'10 post player Obinna Ekezie got hurt late in the year and missed the postseason, which was a major setback they couldn't overcome. We needed his size and presence in the lane and didn't have anybody else to fill that role.

    So Jeff Van Gundy reason for wanting to break up Mobley n Francis was because they we're having too much fun.. I see why he's never been a head coach again in this league.

    Damn he was one of my favorite BBA players and it sad to hear that he had to borrow clothes to attend Yao Ming’s event plus he was apparently sitting alone. Dammit Steve Francis,that breaks my heart because I literally just discovered these latest troubling news,so please tell me that is inaccurate information.

    One of the best player in the NBA history beside playing with worth coach in NBA history....The coach was really dumbest that every coach in the NBA a coach try to change player game's and running his mouth to player's by screening at player's his lucky he didn't get bang in his mouth....Everybody know MJ put him on blast and never like him as a coach or as a man clown before real....They should never have a coach like Van Gundy in the NBA again Facts

    Too bad he didn't want to play in Vancouver it could have saved the franchise from moving.
