da Matta is one of the most underrated drivers in the last 20 years. His career peaked in time when Indy Car and Champ Car were at odds. His F1 drive at Toyota being cut short was a joke. He was better or as good as Castroneves or Kanaan in his day. Opportunity caught him out. He had the same engineer as Kanaan had in Indy lights and pretty much set the car up himself. The man was a legend unsung I can tell you from personal experience. Up there with the greats. The deer at RA just killed it.
My favourite season so far! and my favourite track when CART was still alive... I miss CART so much, maybe Indycar one day can be this good and return to this great track.
It kinda feels like Spa in that it seems like the cars are traveling somewhere, as opposed to just doing laps. I wanna to say F1 should come to this cicuit, but F1 is kinda lame now with the changes they've made recently, except for slick tires; I like those. So I guess too bad F1 before '09 never came here, but with slicks... Whatever. Epic race track.
Champ Car was the best series America ever had. Open wheel racing will never gain huge popularity in the U.S. now. The politicians and rules makers have essentially made it just like NASCAR, but with different cars. Open wheeled cars belong on road courses, not ovals.

Did anyone see him let up at the kink? Whats up with that. Mansell in the mid nineties didn't lift the foot. Andretti,Jacque Villenueve, Zanardi and Montoya, are the only ones Iv'e seen flat out there.
unfortunately too dangerous. look at 0:08 and at 1:54 - "The Kink" is a 200mph-corner with no run-off-area. As long as the kink stays this way, F1 will never go there. all the other corners would probably do.
The problem is not the amount of runoff, it's the oblique angle of the barrier due to what runoff does exist. The best thing to do at a corner like this -- assuming you can't create acres of runoff -- is to bring the barrier right to the track edge on the corner entry, and have it gradually and smoothly move away from the track to the corner exit, where it can use all available space. Add that to a SAFER barrier, F1 would be fine with the kink. Really, it's more of an issue with slower cars -- F1 cars would be so easily flat here, the only issue would ever be with tyre failures.

Cart, I miss you 😭
Cristiano was an awesome CART driver, miss these days
As long as IndyCars are formula cars, this is how they need to sound!
The CART cars were pure single seater racing heaven to watch.
They sound like proper open wheel racing cars
@GoFeri you are absolutely right, this was american open wheel racing at its best
merci Cristiano da Matta

👌👍✨💖
The IRL teams who are pushing for the Delta Wing project are talking about 350 hp engines. Ridiculous. I want these old CART turbos back.

Que espetáculo de pilotagem. Câmbio sequencial.

Goddamnit this is medicine! I’m sick damnit!
Sound so much better than the V6s
Nice!! perfect lap!
Such a smooth drive
Formula 1 needs to go here :D I would be there in a heartbeat.
200MPH not bad
champ car was the american formul one
16000 rpm
De Matt’s almost died here hitting a deer that came onto the circuit.
Champ Car was the best series America ever had.

Boy, is this outdated.
7 years later IndyCar is getting better and better and 2019 looks amazing hehe
What the hell do politicians have to do with it?

top speed 200 MPH
Good luck
@Lock007i Road america is the best american road track man!
Awesome. Do they still have proper circuits like this in the US?
Eu ficaria bugando com esse câmbio sequencial diminuindo as marcha puxando e subindo marcha empurrando kkkk
Nice toyota engine!!
Much better looking than F1 cars, lower
Sleek wider longer wheel base.
@MazdaArai it's not F1 , it's C.A.R.T.
and to think only 4 years later he almost died here because of a deer
For a [no commentary] lap there surely is a lot of commentary in the beginning
Yep all the way from Carousel to the last corner, then the actual lap starts. You got anything to add? 😝
@foxtrotalphaone There are talks going on to bring Indycar back to Road America, though.
Champcars couldn't handle any corners
Did anyone see him let up at the kink?

Maybe he was on worn tires
mclaren bmw da Matta was an f1 driver
Worn tires or possibly less aerodynamic downforce then what they had in the prior years.
I think he didn't lift.
@MazdaArai ...What?
can some 1 tell me wat type transmission these old F1's have. there a bit different from the new ones.is it like the one's rally cars use?

TheColinChapman there's a chicane before it that F1 could use to slow down the kink.
