S-max is available to canadian dealers from 1st Oct 2009 so I suppose that US citizens could nip over the border and buy one although not sure if US D.O.T will issue import liscence for California as it won't pass the strict emmissions tests there!
Oh wow, someone responded on a post that's 3 years old (and a childish one, I do apologize). The S-max has a 2.5 Turbo engine from Volvo, only producing 220 hp. The Espace has a downtuned 3.5 V6 from Nissan thus producing 245 hp. Anyway, the S-Max is 200 kg lighter then a Grand Espace. So a comparison with the Galaxy would be better, but still. Besides that, the Espace has an automatic gearbox and the Ford a manual. So you need a good driver to even get from 0-60 in 7.9 second.
erm...thats what i meant ... dials / tachometers...same sort of thjing, plus 245kph=about 145 mph, plus renault espace will only do about 120-130mph, and also the 2.5 s-max will do almost 170mph (169mph) so in your face!!!

First you talk about the 2.5T which Ford got from Volvo, which only had a manual transmission and now you're comparing a (new) Ford engine which happened to have a sequential box. Make up your mind! What are you comparing it too? Volvo's silky smooth 5 cyl turbo? Or Fords nervous Ecoboost block? And what's the point that you're trying to make? That the S-max is faster? I dare to say that a Grand Espace serves it's purpose better.
Perhaps you ought to put an expiry date on your comments, in fact, the comment I'm writing back to has expired, because the info is all wrong. The point was that you were saying the Espace was faster, which we all know it isn't. Also, you can't now turn around and compare it to a Galaxy when previously you were trying to get away with comparing it to an S-max. The 240ps Ecoboost is only available with a 6 speed semi-automatic - far more advanced than the Espace tranny. It's not a manual.
Regret to inform you this, but if you have the most powerful available Espace engine, you would have the 3.5 24v V6, only capable of 245hp and 0-60 in 8.1, with a top speed of a mere 139mph. The S-max 2.5 (a whole litre less displacement) produced 220hp and a 0-60 time that was faster. However, because the Espace was such a fail, they stopped selling it in the UK; it was a flop. Meanwhile, the S-max goes to a 2.0 to produce 240hp, 0-60 in 7.9 and top speed of 150mph. S-max is faster than Espace.
My point was that the Espace engine is watery, inefficient and pathetic. How come ford can get 370hp out of their 3.5V6 and Renault could only manage 245hp? Renault can only manage a claimed figure of 19.2mpg, whilst the S-max is well into 35mpg. If we take the Galaxy for example, it's capable of 0-60 in 8.3 secs with a 203ps version of it's 2.0. How can Renault only manage 0.2secs faster in a car of similar bulk and weight with a 3.5v6 and the Galaxy only has a 2.0 I4 DOHC? I Bet it was OHV.

IN THE VIDEO??? it was very controllable, also at least i don't insult my fave car company! lol, you called the espace f1 a thingy! xD also there is this CAR called the ford fiesta which has 827 bhp! which goes 0-60 in 2.6 secs and the espace, hmm let me think aah yes what was that 0-60 in 2.8 seconds which is SLOWER than fords fiesta, hard luck man!

The 0-62 time in the v6 Espace is 7.8, S-Max is 7.4. So please do tell me how yours is faster ? If it is because it is modified then your argument is invalid because you cannot compare a standard car to a modded car and say"ha ha mine is more powerful" because with a remap you would be looking at 235BHP.

I have this car and i have 520Hp in the engine. I rebuilt the engine with bigger turbos and holly molly how fast it is now 😅

yes but the focus st, is less tuned than the s-max! the st is 220bhp, and the s-max 2.5 is 370 bhp!
Also, it sucks the plastic intake manifold covers in to the engine and blows up. :)

S max 7.4 same as a St, 220 with more torck.. Plus you change the cylinder linings and up grade to a Rs kit then your talking high bhp and 0-60.
