@Aldo Montufar, so am I. I watched the last couple of seasons while it was still airing, but, being so young when it ended, I didn't entirely get some of the jokes. Now watching the episodes back (particularly the early ones that reference Maris and Lilith more) I am often in constant laughter. It was great to see a sitcom that, through brilliant writing, did exactly that - made fun of some quite relatable situations.
Also, it showed people that intellectual could be funny, without having to explain every joke. Brilliant.

The way Niles could go from ice cold and deadpan with his witty insults to having the most melodramatic nervous breakdown ever in the span of a couple scenes really made him the standout of the show for my two cents, and on this show, that's saying a lot. The core cast of Frasier bounced off of each other and came together to make every joke (as well as every more serious scene) work so flawlessly in a way that has never been done by any show before or since. They're all irreplaceable. That's why I really don't see the point of making a continuation now that John Mahoney is no longer with us. Take away Martin's gruff, straightforward, no-nonsense everyman from the dynamic and you lose so much of what made it so great.

Niles is my favorite character---his physical humor is beyond anyone I've ever seen. The writing, the actors, all so perfect. I watch an episode every day and when I get to the end of the series I just start over again. What we've found is that nearly situation in our own lives can be compared to a Frasier episode. I always felt like part of the reason Frasier had such rotten luck with maintaining long term romance was because he never seemed to date in his age group. As a 40s and then 50s something he was dating sexy 30-something women. Which is all very well and good but he would have related and lasted longer (in my opinion) with a slightly older partner. I wanted him to be happy with someone and stay with someone at the end so bad, or even get back with Lilith but it never happened 😭😢

Frasier was a lucky casting case well done. Kelsey Grammer greatly influenced this. For example, since the series was designed, he insisted that John Mahoney play the role of his father. In fact, he went so far as to say that if John Mahoney didn't accept, he simply wouldn't do the series. Grammer visited Mahoney several times and finally convinced him. Mahoney hesitated to accept because he was acting on Broadway, and accepting Frasier made it difficult for him to move to California and leave the theater. That was the case for Bebe Neuwirth, who was also invited to regularly play the role of Lilith. But she chose to stay on Broadway and just make special appearances. David's case was almost magical. A year or two before Frasier was created, an agent found a photograph of him and was struck by his resemblance to Grammer. "It would be nice to call him in case we ever need a replacement or a brother for Kelsey," she said jokingly. When the creative team was working on designing Frasier, someone remembered that photograph. They decided to call Hyde Pierce. The surprise was to find that this great actor turned out to be a great comedian, with superlative charisma and charm, but also humble, a good partner and a hard worker. A curious fact is that the original idea was to focus the stories more on the radio station (in the manner of Wings or Cheers) and to leave Frasier's personal life in the background. In that scenario, Roz would have had a much more important role, as Frasier's counterpart. But with Hyde Pierce and Mahoney, things changed. Soon, those portentous actors caught a lot of attention. The result was that writers were much more likely to create situations around Martin, Niles, and of course Daphne. The result was a complete team. An enormous merit of Grammer was that he had had enough humility and intelligence to realize that he should not be the center of everything, and he knew how to give place to each of his colleagues. In many chapters, he acted as a troupe for the showcasing of Hyde Pierce. That is not easy. Let's look at the case of Fran Drescher, who had his own Niles, but who did not shine. Another case is that of Jim Belushi, who insisted on always being the only funny one. In short, the success of Frasier (and Hyde Pierce) was due to the conjunction of talents (including producers and writers) and a great job team up.
