Make sure you reseal the air box boot. They are notorious for separating on the CR’s

Those bikes had inherent problems with the air box / Air boot seal . Make sure after you have cleaned and dried those items, that you pull apart the sealing surfaces and carefully caulk with black high temp silicone sealer gasket maker. The jetting will never work right unless you do this . Trust me ! Once l did this, jetting , idle, etc. Was perfect !

Definitely should install the MX Bonz air box seal kit and STIC metering block in that Keihin. Huge performance gains!
also, that jetting you put in there is a tad rich for that bike. 170 main, 42 pilot and red needle 2nd clip

I just bought an immaculate cr250 1999. I'm in love with it. I'm completely done with the 4 stroke now! Nothing but problems lol
Your CR is going to look amazing when it is all together!! Can't wait to see it all together and that carburetor will work perfectly with your motor!! I had one and I never had any issues with it, I used Pro Circuit's jetting specs off of their website and my bike ran fine.
This bike is going to be a work of art! It's great to see Cole healthy and injury free!

Check out a STIC metering block for that carburetor. It makes a big difference in the midrange.

I know you wish you would have tried the Lectron now, but I would recommend looking into the Smart Carb also. They are supposed to have a bit more snap off the bottom end. Way to show the fans a good time in the pits, looked like a blast! Glad to see another retired rider still in love with riding and showing fans a good time. So many pro's seem to be completely burned out, and done with riding, after the career part is over. If I am honest, as an outsider looking in, lots of pros look done with riding/fans long before they end their career, and seem to just be going threw the motions.

Go with the chrome polished honda bolt kit for that bike they sell them as a complete set with all the bolts you need

You should reseal the air box. You can get a gasket kit for. Those cr have an air problem and you will get hella dirt in motor.👍 looks dope

jetting is cool, I love it once u pick your jetting dont forget to adjust the air screw for crispness daily when u do this get the bike warm and adjust till u feel how crisp it gets

X trig has an awesome video explaining why they’re clamp is better and more even. Most people don’t understand how a few too many lbs of torque on your triple clamp bolts causes major stiction on the fork.

12 point hardware custom shank sizes and they would look awesome with the bronze coating on them.

I run the Kehin Pwk air-striker on my 03 Cr 125 and it runs so much better than the stock mikuni. Have no complaints.
I run one on my 98 CR250 too, Totally transformed the bike from the old pos Power jet carb that was stock, runs like Ronnie Mac`s bike now bbbbrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaapppppppppp

I’ve had nothing but good luck with JD jetting. Prob 10-12 bikes and quads jetted. Ice racing to the wood. Obv race fuel and pemix oil and compression will change that but it’s a good base line.
Bike and parts, frame etc are looking sic.
That’s an old Screw top Keihin carb, did Honda supply you that, I’d rec a PWK Keihin flat side and gone with a Stic metering block which not only sorts jetting out, better fuel atomisation, etc etc, still has jets but much more consistent and works with elevation changes too, but would improve HP across the range and just run better overall, some have compared this setup directly to Lecton and Smartcarbs and it speaks for itself. it still seems many haven’t caught onto this esp if the 2t in question already has a Keihin carb, HP performance do a metering rod for the screw Keihin carb as well, just seems a weird one to me, but if it’s a Honda Factory carb that would make sense. Though the Honda came with from 03 to 07 the 38mm Mikuni TMX Flatside carb, this was notorious to get right and detonation etc was an issue, another reason I’d gone Keihin /Stic avoid all that mess. JMO, be plenty of other suggestions, part of the fun process, even 2strokes many many options and experts haha.
HPerformance also provide jetting suggestions, (www.hpracedevelopment.com/stic-metering-block.html )as do Pro Circuit still on their website for stock carb setup, (www.procircuit.com/jettingspecs3.htm ) note this is based on ore mix ratio and fuel tyke used as red by PC though.
If you did go Stic be more likely set and forget though, if ya get time test both options out, I think you might be surprised, I’d do this before any other mod myself apart from stock reeds. I see you have VForce Reed Cage and reeds installed already, nice. combine with a Boyesen water pump and you will be sorted.
Pity CMT don’t do carbon engine mount kits in carbon for the CR250 reduce some vibration, maybe give it a different feel, but big fan of the PHDS kit that’s another great addition, looking forward to the next vid, bikes going to be killer nice work. 🤙

Josh Stevens Yeah I did mention that, I know it’s a bit of a lengthy post lol, I have thought he’d probably gone with the later PWK being s bit easier to tune and less sensitive just my experience with them, I haven’t tried the Stic on the CR yet but plan too, cheers

You should have went with the Lectron .. I love them. As the temperature changes throughout the night at Straight rhythm you won’t Need to reject .. The Lectron will self adjust... I will be there shooting the slow mo camera for the TV (Red Bull ) broadcast.. good luck bro🤙🏽

Hey Cole really enjoy seeing you guys having fun with the 2 stroke. For the carb there is a Keihin PWK 38 Air Striker Short Body. Its shorter and a comon saying is, the shorter the body the better the throtle response. Looks like you got the standard "long" version. Also the original Mikuni TMX had a throtle position sensor (TPS) so this position "data" is aquired and the ECU take that into the equation to set values for ignition timing an RC valve. I would be curious how the ECU is affected by not having this sensor anymore. Not saying anythig is wrong with your approach just putting thougts in.

Put padded tap on the parts of the tank that rub the plastics and frame if not it will get worn past the clear on the carbon and start to splinter over time
I don’t think that jetting chart was made for a factory modded motor. And with a lot of temperature changes in the straight rhythm race.

Hey man love the videos! You are going to want to jet that up from recommended on the main jet as that factory engine is probably going to have a pretty aggressive port map. All of this depends on what pipe you run and the elevation and humidity even. Good luck two strokes are a blast and you’ll have to check your plug and see what it tells you about jetting!
I bet the original owner of that CR never thought a factory Honda engine would be in it. Damn, that's some bonus points!

Keihin PWK. Same as on a 2000 CR250! I was just looking for a new throttle valve body for one of these. When the chrome wears off, the throttle sticks open. :(

William, your right. It was Mike LaRacco's. There's only 2 in extistance.
The trick set up for a pwk carb is to run one that has the tps (throttle position sensor) and modify the wire harness on the carb so it can interface with the ignition system properly. Stock or aftermarket CDIs will be 3d and adjust the ignition curve based on factors like throttle position. TPS carbs came stock on YZ, RM and KXs in the later years. Another trick mod to a PWK carb is to run a intelajet. Call dicks racing and they can get a few more HP for that build by adding the intelajet, wings and taper bore. Read reviews on MXA magazine website. Easy 2 or 3 HP increase! Mxa says it's like adding a port job and pipe which is a substantial increase. Have fun.

Going to be fun to watch you race vs. the KTM's. Hopefully more factory teams will participate although there should be four stroke classes too.

Honestly if I were you at this point (having a factory cr250 engine) I would definitely put in in a 2019-20 crf450 frame, I mean that is what you raced so it’s what your used to.

Hey cole does the suspension get modified to cope for the weight change being that the 2 stroke is lighter do you find you need to re spring it or does it work ok with the stock springs and valving ?

I had the ‘02 RC valve CR250r, for some reason one of the cables that pulls it open would snap. It happened twice.
How were the CMT parts for you? We ordered some and weren’t impressed. The back side of the part wasn’t even finished and very inconsistent bolt holes.
You better get a big bore. Those KTM's were monsters last year.

Should of went with the Lectron. You wouldn’t be dealing with all that jetting stuff. Best $500 I have ever spent on my cr.

Dude the Keihn carb is the way to go. I pulled the mikuni carb off my 01 and put on keihn best part ever added to the bike. Be dope if you put an 01 engine in it possibly the best 2 stroke motor ever made
