While you likely have more riding talent in one finger than I do in my entire body, as the former owner of a 2002 CR250R that I built, I can lend some insight regarding the engine situation/years and updates from 2002-2007 (last generation). All years from 02-07 are known for having an excellent frame, good suspension, and a slightly lackluster motor. But with a few tweaks it's an excellent motor with very good mid range pull and good peak torque/horsepower numbers. From 05-07 the motor got the removable power valve cover/assembly on the exhaust side, but really all variations of the motor are similar.
Three very important engine mods aside from a standard port and polish and pipe/silencer combo with proper jetting that really wake the bike up are: 1) Getting the head shaved/squishband set. 2) A good aftermarket reed cage. Honda changed the reeds and cage design almost every year of the last gen Cr250 with little success. 3) Keeping the electronic RC valve properly adjusted using the "12 mm" method. The stock method is garbage.
Other very good mods: Lectron Carburetor, Billet exhaust flange (Stock one's are prone to cracking), stick-on rubber/plastic/elastomer frame dots to keep the radiator shrouds from rubbing grooves into the frame (as are visible on the frame @5:53 below the tank), and most importantly, one of the many fixes for the single-lip air-box seal that almost always ends up leaking. Arguably the best fix is the MX-Bonz billet aluminum clamp.
Additionally here are some really useful lists/charts detailing every change by year of the last gen CR250. Very useful for sourcing parts/ensuring that everything you purchase will work with your 03.

Oh, and the RC valve stands for "revolution control", whatever that means. Coincidentally the 02 was the first year of the CR having it, and Carmichael did switch from Kawi to Honda that year.

My 2002 CR 125 has a power valve, not the RC valve. My nephew's 2007 has the RC valve. ✌

First, good luck in your future away from pro racing. I’m sure it was hard to make that decision but as a racer standpoint we all understand. The CR is gonna look great I’m sure. The 450L was spot on n I’m sure you’ll put in the same work and effort on this build. BRAAAAP!!!

Swap a 2000-2001 cr250 motor in. The 2002-2007 cr250 motors had an electric powervalve, which caused them to build the rpm slowly
Don't throw that stuff away!!!! Tons of people could use those parts!!!

The oil is premix because oil is in the gas unlike a 4 stroke. It's normal and common for 2 strokes.. The oil in the cases is only for the trans and clutch, not the cylinder the premix is the oil for the cylinder. 👍
You should make a 1999/2000 factory honda replica with Seely on the sides of the seats!

I have a 2000 CR250R I did a complete rebuild on this past winter. I used GPI oversized radiators.

I think 03 CR engine is actually lot better starting point for the build than the later models. It has lot more torque in stock than 05-07 models. With Keihin carb, V-Force Reeds, pipe change (Doma pipe works best), VHM cylinder head and maybe little cylinder porting you will be ready to race

You and your clean, lol. It's a dirt bike and most ppl don't have a mechanic or a factory bike. Was wondering what happened to you when I didn't see you at the next race. Your one of my favorite riders, and hope you're back soon.

Cole... I had one of those things. The chassis is awesome. Contact vertex for a piston, and Varner Racing for the engine and youl thank me later I promise. Use the SST pipe and Vforce. Seal the air box flanges w silicone when you assemble it

Pick up some Tusk radiators on RMATV or the GPI ones on eBay are actually good quality. Your other but slightly more expensive option is to send them off for repair. They will come back looking brand new.
You should use magwheel cleaner on the aluminum it looks sweet when it's all clean and fresh, another thing you can do is watch Cameron Nimelias vid on making your pipe look cool take it down to bare metal then use a torch to make blue lines in it looks so trick

Look into Mishimoto Radiators . Well built, can get them braced and also bigger than stock and still bolt up same as factory. I love mine for the KX450. I paid about $250 for both . I was like you and had one destroyed Radiator and was just going to get another factory , the factory was nearly $200 . Check them out
Unless you have something like a lectron carburetor or fuel injection with two stroke you'll always have bypass oil coming out of the pipe, but not usually that much the guy was probably running it just a bit too rich
Send the radiator to Fontana radiator. They will straighten it and re-weld the seams for about 70 bucks. Thing will look brand new

You don't need to do a motor swap Cole, I have an 03 and an 06 and I can tell you that the 03 has just as much potential as the 05-07 engines. Just have a good engine builder do your engine and you will love it. Remember, Ricky Carmichael won an outdoors championship on an 03, the last 2 stroke to win an outdoors title.
You should try those bars on your race bike dude, never know may take a few seconds off your lap time, make sure to leave those pretty red grips on tho.😂

If you see this, just parted a 2002 cr250r out on eBay and we have a very straight non fill (left) side radiator, oem. Search “j106 cr250r” on eBay and you’ll find it. I’ll clean it up extra for you if you order it! -jmx powersports
