  • After leaving Mississippi we stopped for an overnight stay in Memphis, Tennessee. We had an awesome dinner at the famous Central BBQ in Mid Town and afterwards got caught in the middle of some very severe and tornatic weather that moved through the area! It was a pretty scary night!

We live in Memphis.. We just had some regular thunderstorms and such. We have a very proactive warning system but for us it’s just Typical springtime weather. Imagine a hurricane hitting Gulfport. Florida would be warned as well I’m sure. Really glad your stay turned out good. Osceola pine bluff and Little Rock are a long way from here.

I am from Memphis. It has changed so much over the decades. My old home is in a run down part of town. Next time you visit, if the Sun Records Cafe is still open, I suggest trying that. My Father worked across the road from it.

Don't know if you have a CB or not but I highly recommend a Midland 75-822! It's a great little handheld that is also cigarette lighter powered and can use a magnetic mount antenna for in the truck if you want. Had a Rat Shack version for years that looks almost identical (probably rebranded Midland). It finally died and I nabbed a new one off Amazon a few months ago. Less than $100.00. BTW it has NOAA weather radio in it too! ;)

Oh I forgot to mention my mom cried for 3days when Elvis passed away.
We were camping in Garrison in Minnesota. The security drove around the park telling people to get up to the lodge and in the basement a tornado warning was in effect. So we all drove up there and I sent my wife and kids along with the grand folks to the basement of the lodge and went to take a look across the road on the bank of Millelacs lake and low and behold a tornado had touched down. It was amazing to watch. It was almost surreal. As it touched down. I was sitting near a lagoon and all of the sudden the water was being pulled out of the lagoon. It dropped over a foot. When the tornado touched down on the water. It came off the water once and all of a sudden all that water washed back into the lagoon. It was amazing the power of that tornado. If you look up “ Millelacs lake Messenger” there was a picture they took and I was the guy standing near the dock. That was quite the experience. It was a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing again guys.
