Hey Adam and Abby. as a 15 year cummins tech. Your engine temp is correct. The 6.7 cummins runs normally a 185 degree thermostat and the Temps of the truck will run between 200 -212. When the fan comes on at 212 it will come back down to 200. This is perfectly normal. Safe travels and have a great.
@@AbomAdventures thank yall for all the awesome content on both abom adventures and abom79. I hope to meet yall some day. I'm in upstate south carolina and hopefully one day yall make a stop in the greenville spartanburg area
I love roadtrips! Long roadtrips on America's backdoor highways are the best, especially when you go to those little towns with roadside shops and restaurants that aren't "touristy". Some of my favorite memories as a kid are riding in the car through the Smokey Mountains from Cleveland OH to Traveler's Rest SC to visit my Stepdad's family - stopping at all the little roadside places in the mountains and taking in the people, sights and smells of the country side is so much more interesting than shooting down I-71 and stopping at every T/A truckstop. FYI - engines, both gasoline and diesel, are designed with your standard outside (ambient) temperature in mind. If the cooling system is working, and it looks like you've got plenty of clearance for air flow to that big radiator, you should be fine.
Absolutely love the channel I think it's time for a mini abom 22 (2022) so we can watch the little one make his mama and dadda proud like you did for your mum and dad 💪💪💪👶👶👶👶👨👩👦👨👩👦
I just stumbled onto yalls videos. I live in Lafe Arkansas and yall happened to be talking about Arkansas. I love living in Arkansas and yall made me happy with all your wonderful comments about my state. What most I loved though was. How happy and positive yall are and just the excitement. Thank you💜
I did the 8,000 round trip to the Golden Gate Bridge. Southern route there, northern route back…It was the trip of a lifetime. It took 3 weeks and we stopped everywhere and saw everything…You have no idea how big the USA is until you do something like that…
Omg, there is so much room between that bike and your grill. As usual Adam, your quite prepared, but the self appointed safety board cant shut up and let a guy do a thing. Have fun.
That digital readout for the coolant temperature is a nice feature. Both of my trucks are old and just have the guess at the temperature needle reading. Safe travels and I hope you both enjoy your adventures on the road.
Safe travels! Hitting the road in about a month for a week in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and Everyday the itch to go is stronger and stronger! Enjoy!
Adam your exactly right that thermostat and fan Is doing it job I drove a big truck for 33 years hauling coal in the mountains of Va. Ky. and wv. and when you pull a big hill the temp does just like you say if it don't come back down then it's time to pull over. That monkey hauler looks great I love the color of it
Yes, the outside temp has a little to do with it. Ultimately it comes down to how much work the fans have to do to dump the heat. (and how long it takes to warm up in the cold... my honda civic "race car" won't idle at all until it's warmed up -- 160+; since it's pure water, at 200 you need to start worrying.) In my NV2500 and Winne, you can hear when the high speed fans cut in. The van was designed to sit at idle for extended periods. The local car club's bus (Ford Triton V10) can sit in a field running for hours without issue.
Cummins typically have a 210° switch. The biggest thing I don’t like with the Monkey out there is air flow to the Aftercooler … it’s is soooo dependent on airflow as in the FAN HUB …. The fan hub bearings are pre packed sealed with their only cooling coming from straight line air. You WILL experience higher climbing temperatures. Monitor ENG OIL TEMP As well. My 18 wheeler will run 245-250° on a hard pull with coolant temps holding 210°. THE BIGGEST THING I like is keeping the under hood temps down with a manual fan activated. Keeping under hood temps down helps the engine breathe slightly cooler air and your turbo is not heating hotter then normal air. When the computer senses HIGH INTAKE AIR TEMP.. it will start pulling power off to protect itself. EXCESS HEAT will kill the AFTER COOLER
I don't know if your adventures will bring you back to Colorado this year. The Pikes Peak Cog Railway reopened this past May. The New Visitors center at the summit is open as well. They are just finishing up on $100 Million in renewal and improvements. The cog railway replaced and refurbished equipment as well as the entire track, cog and roadbed from the depot all the way to the summit. It was closed when you were here last.
I like the way the that bike looks on the front of your truck. I gotta feeling your gonna have some requests for that big bike carrier. Nice work Adam. Don’t let anyone spoil it for ya by pulling out in front of you. Hope you two have a great time.
Anything below 220 deg. /F on that Cummins is completely safe and acceptable. There is no way that little motorcycle will block enough air to impede the airflow into the radiator. That thing is SO huge and efficient, you could block half of it off, and still run below 220. The thermostat will just stay open longer, allowing for more water flow through the core and you wouldn't see the 5-10 deg fluctuations, or they would be much "slower".
So happy! We love following your adventures! So fun!!! You guys have a way of always putting a smile on our faces! Be safe and have a wonderful time! ( love Your hair, Miss Abby!)❤
My thermostat on my 2016 opens about 210oF. I would not worry about it. There are guys which pull 30k# and don't have problems. Just good to keep an eye on it. I pulled out of Death valley in 105+oF temps (basically unloaded) and had no heating problems. That is a 5000' grade over 50 miles.
I believe I’m correct that each psi on the coolant raises the boiling point 3 degrees. So with 14 pounds pressure cap coolant boils at 284 degrees F. Cooling should be no problem with a property maintained system.
Saw ya'll passed by Archusa Creek Water park and Clarkco State Park on the way to Meridian. Since ya'll like Roosevelt ( we do too, btw ) you'll like Archusa and Clarkco. Looking forward to more long haul vids. Thanks for sharing your adventure!
I don't know where you're heading but if you end up near Lake of the Ozarks come to coconuts RV Park in Gravois Mills Missouri I think you would enjoy it!
Buckatuna MS. We've stopped there on our runs down to FL. and of course the on the way back. I'll watch for you as you traverse through Memphis. Drive careful on the 240 loop. Locals call it death loop 240. Lots of shootings as one drives about . Be careful as they seems to go after slower vehicles.
If your travels go through the Dallas / Ft Worth area, you and Abby are more than welcome to stop in here and have plenty of room and a out side 50amp hook up. Our lot has easy access and love too have you guy's and of course Angus on the grill will be in order 😋 We are in Boyd Tx, rural county side, great roads for a county. If you do pass through, Bill Bobs and Cowtown is always a treat! Face book me for ia contact, Enjoy your trip, Bear
Love the videos! Great looking truck! Have you thought about adding the clearance lights on the roof? Ram offers it as an accessory and it would really finish off the look of your truck! Keep the content coming can't wait for the cooking!
You need to check out the Corp of Engineers campground's. There's several in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee and many other states. We enjoy them when we're not boondocking.... We have the America the Beautiful federal pass and most federal campgrounds are half price. Usually $11 to $13....
Hope yaw have a big ol good time Adam and Abby that sounds good. Hey this is just a joke but with all that you have on your vehicles reminds me of the Beverly hillbillies.
Hey Adam can make suggestion for the monkey go to a four wheeler or off road bike shop and see if they have a canyon strap it goes over the handle bars when it tightens it acts like crossing the straps
To answer Abby's question yes ambient (outside) temp will affect your engine temp a little. But not much. +/- 5 degrees max in a well maintained radiator. Seeing the monkey mounted up there is no way its going to significantly affect your airflow. That grill is still wide open. So I'd tell the doomsayers to stuff it.
I run around 196 degrees when it's below freezing and I think the hottest I've run is 206 on a 100+ degree day. That's with a 190 degree thermostat on a V8.

The fan clutch will let you know if there is anything to worry about. It's like an alarm
@@truckguy6666 if you never heard the fan come on it will wake your for sure lol
Thanks Todd. It’s nice hearing from a true technician who knows this stuff.

What a feeling of freedom it is to start out on a big vacation. I'm just sitting here in NH but can feel the relaxation from your video. Thanks...
Have fun guys and stay cool if possible.
Safe travels and thanks for sharing your fabulous adventures!! Y'all Rock 🙏
That digital readout for the coolant temperature is a nice feature. Both of my trucks are old and just have the guess at the temperature needle reading. Safe travels and I hope you both enjoy your adventures on the road.
I strongly suggest slow down with those snacks !!! one more suggestion, cover the "monkey" motorcycle from splatter bugs !
I traveled US 45 in eastern MS a few years ago. Not too bad a road.
Enjoy your adventure & watch those pot holes on the roads ahead.
Safe travels! Hitting the road in about a month for a week in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and Everyday the itch to go is stronger and stronger! Enjoy!
Yesss finally leg 1 of the trip! Miss abby must be so glad... and you to Adam 😊 enjoy your tour and vacation and i will follow the updates

5 bucks says yall bring home a doggo this time. Plus a couple of Eagle oilers and tap charts.
Hi Adam, I missed hearing the motor mower running in the background while you were showing us the motor camp. :-) Cheers from New Zealand
You should create a database of recommended campsites and pit stop locations, similar to what restaurant critics do for restaurants.
The bike will have no affect on the cooling of the engine. There is a gap between the bike and the radiator.👍😊
Thanks for sharing with us, Fred.🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👋👋
Have a nice trip.

Awesome you were I my old stomping grounds in meridian ms! Hope you both enjoy your trip !!
No better way to start off a road trip than having an enthusiastic wife riding shotgun.
Don't forget to check the transmission temp
Nice vacation u 2

Adam you wont have any problems with cooling.
Stay safe.
If you are going up hills you should keep the trans temp gauge up also
Congrats you guys! have fun! Cummins will be fine!
Woohoo!!! Let the adventures begin. Any hints on how long the big haul is going to be this year? Have fun and safe travels.
The temperature is normal. I have a Ram 3500 and it runs the same as yours, full or empty. By the way, the Ram I have is my 5th one since '91.
Have fun Adam1
I meant San Antonia, NM is where the Owl Cafe is or Albuquerque
Your Ram looks newer, but my 2016 Ram 2500 CTD shows as having a 190 degree thermostat.
See you bought a vise in the first 3.5hrs from home. You may have to freight stuff home on your trip. Hahaha
Always easy to do. We’ve done that on our last two trips.
Coming through my neck of the country
No Adam you do not need another vise!
green rug by door of camper on the ground !
i hope nobody steals your stuff.
Nice RV setup. See you could not pass up a deal on a vice!!
Hahahaha.. Abby is the best :)
i hope you get a GREAT adventure.. you deserve it so much .. ...
Dude get you one of those "solar" generators, its basically a high capacity lithium ion battery, then use the hookup to charge it up. :D
Its not a road trip until I get my Funyuns, reeces pieces, and sour punch straws. lol
I have an 05 dodge cummins and temps are the same. 195 no load 200 to 210 with load

Welp if you ever find your self where your over heating, crank up the heater helps heat escape the engine
Love the hair Ms. Abbey. Have fun. I’ll keep an eye on p-cola for you.
