This is so perfect. This situation had come to a head a few weeks ago as part of a combination of issues. Another piece I added to the boundary issue is not allowing someone to come into my office and shut the door. I noticed that I would emotionally “brace” myself for conversations once the door closed. Not allowing the door to be closed unless necessary has stopped people in their tracks as they don’t tend to want to do that out in the open. Asking the questions as you’ve described weeds this out and it’s worked like a charm!
That is genius, Stacey!! And the emotional bracing is REAL. Thank u for this tip!!! Shine on!
Gosh I wish I knew this when I started the job!
😂! I hear ya! But now you know! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!
Thank you so much, very useful! I seem to have a tendency to give negative people lots of my time for their venting, draining the energy out of me. Time for setting the boundaries! BTW, I once learned to ask for one of 3 H's: do you want me to hear, help or handle for you? Thanks Bronwyn!
Oh that is GOOD, Vince. “Hear, help, or handle.” I will quote you on that one!! So glad this was useful. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!!
I have some coworkers who have a bad attitude not using manners and being pushy and I have no respect sometimes
It’s so hard to feel respect for someone who is rude! I hear that!
Need your help, lady... I am a younger manager with a older team with one lady with a large personality... Any thoughts on how to reign her in? And how to handle older employees without being disregarded?
Ha that is a loaded question LOL. Can you be more specific about the “largeness?” Is she disrespectful? Arrogant? Mean? Give me some details and I’ll share my thoughts!! Thank u for watching and commenting!
@@ThisisBronwyn My question is really a 2 parter. Are you able to give your insight on the younger manager with older employees dilemma? My team is roughly about 35+ years older than me, and I am walking in as a 1st time manager with the willingness to learn and listen, and also share my ideas as we move forward as a team. The lady I am referring too, has already given me the "I've been doing this longer than you've been alive" comment, so I am needing help understanding how to address her outlooks and assert myself as a new leader. Its difficult because I know she knows alot, but my role is to learn and grow my team... That comes with growing pains.... Any insight would be helpful and know your videos are super applicable to my day to day. We appreciate what you are doing. Thank you!
