- In this video, fellow RC Enthusiast Tom from Spektrum gives us a detailed overview of how the capacitive touch panel on the DX5 Rugged operates and how to adjust the sensitivity to your needs.

I love this radio. Feels right in the hand and setup is easy. I had nothing but issues with my DX3R scroll wheel. I think this will work better.
I have the DX5C which I really enjoy and a old DX3R which I considered selling but also enjoyed at one time. I really would like one of these new DX5 rugged in the orange colour. I would like to run my Outcast 6S and EB48.4 off this one radio and if I ever get it by summer, a 5T 2.0!!! Very cool radio! Seeing how it operates the touch scroll doesn’t look too bad it’s something I could pick up fairly quickly I think
Hi. Quick question. My G button that’s set for my dig in my crawler has just stopped beeping. Works like normal just no more beep. Any idea how to fix it?
I'm getting the orange one tomorrow and I'll be reading the manual. Everything you showed is most likely in the manual and the people who complain about it most likely didn't read the manual.

What about turning off the vibrations feature? I did not hear the motor activate in the video that provides feedback.

How do you bind it to a stock spectrum reciever? Cant bind it to my notorious
I have a problem with my DX5 Rugged steering trim setup B button, everytime i trim to center it goes back to the left side automaticly it doesn't want to center trim.
I bought a dx5 rugged around feb and was gonna use it in a scx10.3 build well got to it and the thing is bad with that touchscreen so i just about tossed it,spektrum should offer a trade in program or something for the newer version,i bought it off a guy at the HS that was trying to return it and they would not take it back.he had it for a day,now i know why he was trying to return it.
I think you got the touch screen sensitivity profiles. 5 is the most sensitive on my radio.
Sorry the gain is a bit high on the beginning of this video, someone messed with our mixer...

Spektrum DX6C ( of maybe DX5C ) is compatible with my possible future Mini-z MR04 EVO2?
I also do model flying, I have a lot of Spektrum Rx for my DX8, can I use them for the DX6C on the MR04 ?

Having issues with mine. It scrolls down fine but won’t go up. Keeps selecting and unselecting when I try to scroll up. Very frustrating

@@SpektrumRCvideos why the hell is there that much a of chance of the interface to go bad? never heard such disclaimers with simple waterproof buttons. you guys screwed up bigtime and i cant believe your still selling this radio with such a poor choice of interface.

Can this radio work with a proper 2 esc MOA set up? I understand how to mix another channel with the throttle, but I cant figure out how to set up different drives modes, such as 4wd, fwd, rwd. I bought this radio specifically for this function and it seems I may have made the wrong purchase...please advise.
It's funny that you didn't get a reply when you posted this comment. All the other people seem to have been.
@@johnnybauer8552 yup. At first this radio was advertised as having that function. Now, it's not. I think it would have been a very good thing to have on an RC crawler specific radio. I think it was a missed opportunity for Horizon.
I can understand and forgive mistakes in packaging or miscommunication in the company, but I was rather disappointed by their lack of transparency concerning this topic.
I've since switched to SanWa/Airtronics for my MOA needs.
What they need to do is to allow us to use the wheel to navigate the menu (after selecting the menu button). The touch panel interface is a bad idea. I've had the rugged since it came out. I ended up buying a DX5c and use the rugged as a backup radio.

I'm with ya, it does seem like once it's "broken in" a bit it gets easier to control.
How do I use these with my Traxxas products? I have 5. Can I use this for all 5. Confused thanks
Hi Scott, all you would need to do is install a Spektrum DSMR receiver in to each vehicle. That being said, sometimes you need to recalibrate the esc to work. Hope that helps!
My DX5 had some problems with programing. I did buy it at a local hobby shop. My touch pad only worked in one direction. I just could not program it. The actual radio did work I just could not program anything. My local hobby sent my radio back to Spektrum and they did confirm that my radio did have a touch pad problem. I just got my radio back from Spektrum, they claim to have replaced the touch pad. I just got it back. I will try to program it again. I hope everything is okay now.

@@chadkyletheman41 I left an open ended moment like that because I did not know if my radio was fixed. Guess what, I got chance to set it up my radio. My radio was fixed and it works great. Kudos to Spectrum and my local hobby shop too.
So I had to buy a new Spektrum transmitter (DX5 Rugged) when I broke my DX5C transmitter, 2 days ago. Upon attempting to bind to my 10-3 (Firma 40A), the truck now moves on it's own, and many restarts has had horrible/worse servo chatter (had some obnoxious chatter before when paired to DX5C). I ensured from the beginning that the DX5 was zeroed out on the trims, and have unbound and rebound to the transmitter twice, in case I messed up the first time. I need help! Is the esc or receiver portion going/gone bad? It's 2 months old bought the esc combo and servo for my Spawn, transferred it over to the 10-3 kit, and worked well (except startup servo chatter for 5 ish min) until I just bound to new transmitter.
Hmm, I would look into potential interference or a short causing power issues from another component. Triple check all your connections etc. Worse case it could be a damaged Firma 40.
Also make sure you do not have a servo that is bad or binding up causing unneeded high loads on the ESC/BEC
@@SpektrumRCvideos thank you for the heads up. I've noticed glitching from this servo ever since moving the servo and Firma from my Spawn to my 10-3. However, I have a replacement in case, so Ive give that a try.
Got mine from amazon recently. No problems yet. And just learned how to tweak avc. It was inhibit the entire time hah. Would be nice to tweak it just a tad. The touch can be a bit annoying at times but once you get the feel for how it responds you will get setup in no time.. and lets be real its not like your runnin thru settings all the time anyways.
I still love my old DX3R but the scroll wheel is really jumpy and takes me forever to move through different screens when setting up a new truck.(assuming dirty contacts). If these, ever go on sale, I'm getting an orange one.
Don't buy one in orange, apparently you don't get a reciever. Unless you're a iPhone fan.
It is almost impossible for me to navigate the menus or precisely adjust the settings, this touch selector is really horrible compared to a good old roulette of my dx4c...
ok I have one of the dx5 ruggeds but I cannot figure out how to get to the serial number so I can register it.

@@SpektrumRCvideos Thanks next problem I have is how do I set the 3rd channel on my dx5 for the dig servo on my capra please the instructions are a bit cryptic.
@@andrewmurphy8724 We do hope to do a video on that soon! But in the meantime it is pretty simple. 1st make sure AVC is inhibited. Go to Aux assign, choose your channel. Choose your input, then your mode. Personally I like using 2 pos and momentary active. (leave cyclic inh) Hope that helps!

You can control up to 20!
Only if you buy a receiver as they don't give you one with it

@@chadkyletheman41 i don't only have 1, i have over 25 cars all running with electrics and i can afford it, i have 3 wheel controllers, 3 x futaba 3vcs stick controllers and 1 sanwa zz stick controller, and a couple of other controllers with my tamiya tanks, my gripe is they put the price up and removed the receiver, they should have done one not both, it's just greed,
dooronron69 you sound like poor person trying to convince themselves that their not poor.
a capacitive touch panel is a major design flaw in something that suppose to work well in wet conditions. its not something that would stop me from buying it but just use waterproof buttons. it aint hard to figure out why that would be a better option.
5:05 there ya go. when there needs to be so many disclaimers about how to use the thing that navigates through the menu you have failed, big time.
If you have SO many people complaining about controls that you have to make a video about how to “manipulate” it, why not just fix the issue? I will be purchasing a controller that doesn’t require hand lotion....
I did send mine back to the vendor. Ridiculous, that simple stuff like this is not working out of the box
Its a nightmare, you should have separated the select button from the scroll function.
That touch pad is so much inferior compared to the scroll wheel, it's mathematically inexpressible.
I love the orange and wanted to get one for my son and me but when it doesn't work unless you buy a seperate receiver i decided not to buy...
The grey comes with a 5 channel receiver in the price,
Instead of being money grabbers you could have just put a 3 channel one in instead or even 2 channel if you wanted to be even tighter. You lost a sale of 2 with me...
Many of my crawler friends said the exact same as that being the reason they won't buy it.
A transmitter always comes with a receiver, except yours, its not that special. 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

@@chadkyletheman41 it works out £40 more for a transmitter in orange than the black one that comes with a receiver, then you gotta spend another 30 for a receiver so that's £70 more, so being a peasant isn't it, if your not a peasant you could always pay the extra for me 🙄, the £40 more for the orange one wouldn't be as bad if it still had a receiver come with it, but when you gotta pay 40 more then even more on top of that it takes the mick, I'm sure beads of orange plastic arnt much more than beads of black plastic, just spektrum / horizon being greedy b-stards

nice video, shame you spent so much time showing the "special body" and very little "screen time" showing the actual setting changes, hardly conducive to convincing me to buy one, will have to go shopping and see it in the flesh,

I just wasted my $ on this controller. This is the most frustrating input I have ever experienced.
How in the HECK did this make it out of any type of quality control? Mine will not scroll up at all, not once, ever. This is the worst design I have ever seen. All profiles suck equally. Been with Spektrum from the beginning, and I am throwing this garbage out.

@@SpektrumRCvideos - I will and thank you. Honestly, even scrolling down is abysmally awkward but that is design and I get it. Not being able to scroll up is a total failure.
I am taking this as an expensive lesson and getting out of it either way and will just buy another DX5 Pro.
