on blending in to other fishmons the colour of the new Qwilfish helps a lot as it breaks away from the usual palette associated with other fish. Meanwhile Overqwil is a perfect evolution, it's Qwilfish taken to the logical extreme of absurdity by being a living ball of "nature why?" the splatoon vibe is also welcome as it looks like what an enemy that serves as a floating hazard would be designed as, speaking of hazard it also has a bit of sea mine going on. in general between basculin/legion and this it feels like gamefreak is trying to make the fish feel more like pokemon and less like filler for water encounters.

A friend of mine put it best, I think: "The edge of death is where a person feels the most alive." Living is something we generally take for granted, but when there's an immediate moment wherein it's possibly about to be taken from us, we fully appreciate what a wonderful thing living is, and all we want is to live a little longer. There is also the fact that humans are incredibly stupid. Heck, you don't even have to look at fugu to see that, just look at the concept of "spicy food" - spiciness isn't a flavor, it's a pain response, a DEFENSE MECHANISM that plants employ to DISCOURAGE things from eating them. So naturally, us "intelligent" humans cultivate spicy things and eat them in abundance and crave them and have a whole genre of food dedicated to them. So the mechanism specifically in place to DISCOURAGE consumption is what actually makes us WANT to eat them. Same with fugu. Kinda backfired there…evolution did not account for human stupidity… XD
@@dragonteracorps5059 Exactly. It's not even a flavor, it's literally a pain response, it's chemicals tricking the nerves in your mouth into thinking they're LITERALLY on fire, and yet us "intelligent" humans think it's delicious. XD

Recently I played Pokemon Sword with a All Poison type team, and used Qwilfish and it gave me a new appreciation for it. In Pokemon Sword at least it's actually a decent Physical attacker with early access to Poison Jab. I was surprised at how good it actually was
Wasn't qwilfish pretty effective in gen 7? I seem to recall its puffing up being put to good use to intimidate opponents. Though yeah, mostly it's basically a pufferfish. Also, pufferfish poison causes headaches? I bet that's the real reason Hisuian qwilfish is dark type, so it doesn't have to worry about poisoning a psyduck and spelling its own doom.
The nightmare of going through dozens and dozens of other Pokémon just for a creature that doesn’t evolve, has low average stats, and no abilities to make it stand on its own, is enough to make us forget. Not to mention that Toxapex overtakes. Making Qwilfish Dark Poison worked, and an evolution? It worked. But the stats for overqwil can be better.

Kyogre: I'm not fat 😓😑😡 hey Lugia wanna go on a killing spree against every single Qwilfish and Overqwil in the ocean?
Lugia: sounds like fun, I know a hot spot where they gather, I'll whip up a hurricane and you disintegrate them! 😈
Kyogre: sounds like a good plan. 😈
*Days Later*
Qwilfish: OKAY OKAY YOU WIN, WE WONT EVOLVE IN OVERQWIL ANYMORE, JUST STOP KILLING US, PLEASE. 😨
Lugia: finally I can get some sleep!
Kyogre: finally I won't get poked!
@@brotbrotsen1100 ahhh yes, the Paras of the sea.
Not only gamefreak considered giving qwilfish the evolution shibirefugu, but they also were considering giving it a pre evolution named buku, a smaller pufferfish 🐡 Pokémon 😊
Once the new qwilfish and overqwil make it to competitive they are going to be an absolute menace. Honestly can't wait.
While I personally don't think Overqwill is going to make any real waves in competitive, it scares me that H-Qwilfish is a Dark-type Eviolite user
@@Druid-T The eviolite thing is great, but I also think overqwil is going to have a place on a lot of rain teams. Having such an unusual typing on a swift swim user is going to add a lot of options, especially with base 115 attack.
Assuming they get...what were they missing? Physical Dark moves, I think.
It'll probably be fine.
@@michaelvisosky743 yeah the move selection is kinda strange in legends.
@@brotbrotsen1100 yeah they brought back moves like ominous wind (that was removed before right) onto basculegion so I'm very curios how transferring into home and out of home will be like.
So glad one of my favorite under appreciated mons got a new form and evo. Qwilfish and stantler really deserved one. Now we just gotta wait for Girafarigs turn lol
Girafarig Evo when
Dunsparce evo when
This aged well
Overqwil is honestly one of my favorite new mons in Legends. It looks so absurd and over-the-top that I actually really like it. Plus it's Shiny is great.
It was my first shiny
I wished the normal colors would be the shiny tbh
17:52 I love how he looks at the first picture and is just like :| no
When I saw Qwilfish for the first time, I caught one and named it Hootie. And wondered where the rest of his band went so I could catch them. XD
You deserve all the thumbs ups.
BLOWFIIIIIISH
Excuse me while I rename either my Manaphy or Phione "Hootie."
Funny, video came out just when I was grinding Qwilfish to evolve it for the "Sea Legend" quest. Made the entire grind a lot more interesting.
The thing about the OG Quillfish was, that, compared to many other Water Pokemon, or even all of Gen 2 Pokémon, it wasn’t ether memorable, or even GOOD to use. It’s just a very rare Pokemon, that’s it……
BUT HISUIAN QUILLFISH AND OVERQUILL!!!!
DAM!!
Minor correction: It’s Qwilfish and Overqwil. W instead of U, and one L instead of two.
it was fine in competitive play.
The the cool thing about regional variants, it lets otherwise unremarkable pokemon that have more or less been forgotten to get a new 'coat of paint' as it were and stand out just that bit more
I always liked my pissed off looking ball of hate.
They should’ve done the opposite and get rid of qwilfish all together. Instead I have to do what no one else will and hunt them to extinction myself.
This video helped me get over my irrational fear of pufferfish by making it rational. Thanks Lockstin!
Poison dish with YOLO FISH!!!
H. Qwilfish and Overqwil are legit my favorite addition in L:A. Qwilfish's new design is so cute and Overqwil is charmingly extra, and its name is probably my favorite pun in the series.
14:30 Lockstin: No Way Home
I honestly forget about Qwilfish's existence most of the time then I see it in game and go "When did they add this?"
I legit thought it was from Gen 4 until Lockstin mentioned that it was from Gen 2.
@@mastermarkus5307 I mean it is a decent annoyance in gen 4. gen 2 I still haven't seen one
0:27 Us Colosseum players talk about it. It's one of the most annoying Shadow Pokemon to catch in the game.
Lockstin is amazing. Never would I think I would watch a video this long about the history of fugu and be engaged the whole time, and yet here I am.
What is going to happen in future chapter of Golden Kamuy
Saichi runs to check if Asirpa is alive and well. Saichi then realises it is the same woman that saved his butt from a bear years ago. Asirpa has changed a lot, as she grew from a small adorable Ainu girl into a beautiful large breasted opulent full breasted Ainu woman that has natural floatation devices and starts to crush on him. Then she asks him if he could take off his shirt and if she can touch his abs. Saichi takes of his shirt and Asirpa starts to stroke his abs. Then she says 'Oh my Saichi, those abs have hardened so much and are now so hard that if someone else punched you into stomach, their hand would turn into dust'. Then he says 'Asirpa, my darling, those breasts are large, soft and bouncy and you can use them to mesmerize opponents'. After that, Asirpa gives Saichi smooches and he gets covered in kiss smudges

2:17" fish blowing video" hahahah that's a good one 3:35 oh damn he was serious lmao !
on blending in to other fishmons the colour of the new Qwilfish helps a lot as it breaks away from the usual palette associated with other fish.
9:19 I love how in the background, you can see lockstin’s past avatars
Best part about the whole pufferfish obsession is that it doesn't even taste like anything special.
Supermarket grade frozen fish sticks have more flavor in them.
While I can't confirm that in any way, I would be entirely unsurprising since the slices essentially look like unflavoured gelatin.
Can't wait for the video about Avalugg. All my friends say it's supposed to be an icebreaker, when to me the front CLEARLY looks like the kind of snow plow they have on plow trains in Hokkaido. Even moreso the shiny. You gotta settle this
It's largely based on a proposed ice ship. England was seriously considering making a battleship made of ice during World War 2. It was called project habakkuk.
It's mainly based on icebreakers, especially because base Avalugg is based on aircraft carriers (due to how they carry Bergmite around on them)
In anatomy this last week and the week before, we were just learning about neurons and how their sodium and potassium gates and pumps work.
It's so nice to understand what people are talking about when it comes to science and the bodies of humans and animals.
I must have insane Quilfish luck. Whenever I went looking for one for the pokedex I found it within like 3 fishing rods drops. I registered it, boxed it and then never thought about it again until I went looking for it for Pokedex purposes and found it in less than 5 minutes.
I have a biomedical science degree. Not gonna lie, haven’t done anything with it since University. Hearing Lockstin say “Voltage Gated Ion Channels” and showing diagrams wasn’t something I was expecting today 😂
3:29 now that's a "blow" fish
All it needs is a physical Dark move for me to adore it
9:31 Love the old avatar designs hiding in the background
9:19 I love how the two other versions of you are in the background wearing hats as well xD
Thank you, that inflation joke made me spit out my breakfast laughing. I agree with the editor 🤣
This is honestly really pretty cool to see, I just had to read a whole thing about fugu for one of my courses, this was a neat crossover for me, and a good vid!
We don't talk about Qwilfish-
*Later*

Self Destruct hits differently when there is poisonous shrapnel in the explosion.
Not as bad as Skuntank using Explosion though, that’s just straight-up mustard gas.
@@Glory2Snowstar Truth! Now that I think of it Skuntank can use Flamethrower so its explosion would be more fiery too!
I always thought Overquil's spike looking like a rose compass being a reference to the sea's legend, where it helped someone cross an ocean
Reminds me of how people eat shark fin soup. Shark fins have no flavour at all, only adding texture to the soup. Not worth killing so many sharks for.
But I guess it’s like “hey, I’m eating scary sea monster! Take that!”
I can’t really see why anyone would eat it otherwise
Well idk about you but spicy food is delicious
@@dragonteracorps5059 Exactly. It's not even a flavor, it's literally a pain response, it's chemicals tricking the nerves in your mouth into thinking they're LITERALLY on fire, and yet us "intelligent" humans think it's delicious. XD
"Three years of training"
Fugu should be the final boss of cooking mama.
I found a shiny quilfish 3 hours into playing legends Arceus but is used self destruct🤯
Self destruct doesn’t kill in PLA though-
Hunted for 5 days to get mine
Dude why didn’t you save
Whenever you see a shiny, save your game. The game saves specific instances of Pokemon, so if you reload while in the presence of a shiny, it'll still be shiny when you reload.

tbf the video was more about how Japanese eating habits make Lockstins head hurt than about how Quilfish and Overquil are
Very well explained Lockstin. everything about this episode made my day, good work all :D
9:18,14:26 it’s nice to see the old designs in one video in this channel.
I'm really glad Qwilfish finally got some love. I enjoy using it and it's new found evolution a lot!

6:50 Haha! Puffer fish eating a carrot!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That meme is so good!
Our man Lockstin was more concerned with the death of Fugu fish than Qwilfish orgins.
There is no Qwil like Overqwil!
I love qwilfish and have another idea for it’s inspiration. Perhaps the sea mine aspect could relate to how puffer fish expand as it is at least slightly similar to a sea mine’s explosion
ive loved overqwil the first time i saw it leaked its one of my favorite new pokemon
“Because of how humans are we won’t need to worry about them dying of Fugu anymore!”
Now that’s some Dark humour about Poison.
Relicanth is not forgettable in my opinion. I can still still remember the time I finally caught it in Pokémon Emerald. Plus, I still need it in Pokémon Go 🎣
When I first saw Overqwil I instantly related it to that fat octo samurai from Splatoon 2, glad he did too
17:58 Lockstin… why The F***!!!
17:55 why you gotta do that to my second favorite Pokémon
Give your editor a raise, that was hilarious
I really like the visual gag/detail of the Quilfish becoming more and more burnt in the 1st Lockstin restaurant scene. Kudos for that! This was a fun video 🤣
Lockstin I love your deep dives into the Pokemon and their real life inspirations. 👍👍👍
Lockstin: The Japanese crave the Tiger pufferfish due to it being the most deadly of puffer fish.
Also Lockstin: Why? Why? Why? 😱😱
The Why's of the video killed me. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Recently I played Pokemon Sword with a All Poison type team, and used Qwilfish and it gave me a new appreciation for it. In Pokemon Sword at least it's actually a decent Physical attacker with early access to Poison Jab. I was surprised at how good it actually was
10:52 simple stone... RESPECTFUL STONE
0:51 HOW DARE YOU CALL TYNAMO FORGETABLE
9:38 “This kills the fish”
Wasn't qwilfish pretty effective in gen 7? I seem to recall its puffing up being put to good use to intimidate opponents. Though yeah, mostly it's basically a pufferfish. Also, pufferfish poison causes headaches? I bet that's the real reason Hisuian qwilfish is dark type, so it doesn't have to worry about poisoning a psyduck and spelling its own doom.
Also to make Hisuian Qwilfish evolve, you have to use his signature move: Barb Barrage at least 20 times in the Strong Style, talk about Overkill!
Honestly, i would love to try out fugu, just out of curiousity on how it tastes
Takes like the fear of death
Your funeral
Get some farm fish fugu free of the offending bacteria, with no poisonous qualities.
0:23 Aye bruh, I'm not gonna tolerate any qwilfish slander. It's been one of my favorites since Crystal version/Stadium 2
Toxapex overtakes, crown of thorns gang represent.
