Another great episode. I was a bit tardy getting my big going days started. My two closest friends went to see Maiden on the Powerslave tour at Ipswich Gaumont 1984. I didn't get started until Feb 1986.

Great episode, really enjoyed it. Probably as it was one I missed so enjoyed it for that aspect. Only saw Dio live once at Donington in 1987.

Excellent guys as ever .. Like you I was a Sounds reader to start with 1977 onwards , then Kerrang from Issue 1 in 1981 . Think it went Bi monthly in 1982 . By 1986 I abandoned Sounds ...

I saw this tour in Cardiff, I was 19 at the time - the third time for me to see DIO in 13 months (Donington & Cardiff with Waysted 1983). And yes they did play a shorter set, about 1 hour 15 minutes, Whitesnake did the same when I saw them in March that year. Still a quality performance as ever from Ronnie & Co, although the new songs pushed out some of the Sabbath & Rainbow classics. I don`t remember Geoff Tate with the Perspex, but Queensryche went down with the crowd fairly well here, I enjoyed them.
The tour program you have is not the same as the Holy Diver one I have from 1983, maybe you have the American version. The only picture I could see as being the same as in mine was the solo shot of Jimmy, the cover & inside layout are completely different with no picture of the stage.

I saw this tour at the Apollo in Glasgow. Only my third ever concert. I was actually a biggish Queensryche fan at that point as I had bought the Queen of the Reich ep and really liked it. I think it was about the only thing of theirs I actually *did* like.......😆😆. Anyway, they pretty much bombed in Glasgow too apart from 1 solitary 14 year old kid going nuts......😆😆 Radio Clyde in Glasgow recorded the show and I taped it from the radio. I had that on cassette for years...probably still do, somewhere. The lads from the Glasgow Apollo Facebook group recently posted it up on YT, was great to hear again. ruclips.net/video/2EevSMy1TZA/видео.html

Saw them at Brum Odeon, Queensryche played to total silence. Geoff Tate even pleaded to give us a break!

Not just Oxford then. Did he bring his Perspex sheet with him?

Ps operation mindcrime is one of the best metal albums EVER! Just an opinion! Still sounds fresh today. It all went commercial and downhill after that. Saw geoff Tate in Belfast last year and he was pretty good all round - like half the old bands doing the rounds was clearly using backing tracks for the backing vocals.
And to finish this weeks comment - that DIO setlist - unbelievable!

I went with my dad to see them at De Montford Hall Leicester, as only 15 at the time, for my dad the last time he went to De Montford Hall was to see Buddy Holly, again travel via United Counties buses from Bedford, which arrived late so only saw part of Queensryche, at the time only read about them in Kerrang, loved to really appreciate ,take hold of the flame, although my dad mentioned that Geoff was impressive, Totally Dio fan, brought all the different versions of the releases, with mystery not just a white vinyl but also a blue vinyl 12 inch, highlights was one night in the city, however as encore played mob rules which the crowd got abit excited and a red chair, cushion must be ripped from the balcony and was being thrown around the crowd, Ronnie subsequently stopped the show , said something on the lines mob rules and walked off stage mid song anyway enjoyed the show and caught then again on the Sacred Heart tour in Birmingham

Trouble is living in Bedford was a total lack of venues, we only had the Corn Exchange which I only saw The Enid and Vintage Trouble, 25 years apart, so no option but to travel to London, Leicester and more recently Cambridge, although Wavendon near Milton Keynes managed to see in more recent times UFO, Asia and Uriah Heep, 30 years ago was a hive of activity in Milton Keynes at the Woughton Centre which was part Sports Center but managed to see the likes of Gun, Crown of Thorns, Jagged Edge, Love Hate, Shotgun Symphony, Tyketto, Drive She Said, but also Dream Theater on the Images and Words tour, but also the first Gods of Aor, with the excellent Marcie Free

I saw Love/Hate in MK too - what great show! Aylesbury used have a massive scene with the Friars club but I was slightly too young and missed tons of bands I’d have loved have seen - especially Marillion in their home town!

A band of legends. Being Irish have a soft spot for Vivian Campbell who I reckon is very underrated. But obviously Ronnie, Jimmy and Vinnie were legends of their craft. I prefer Holy Diver as an album though. I was a little too young for this tour! 👶 younger than Dilly boy!

Vivian was sooo impressive at such a young age - love the bloke!!

I'm more disappointed that none of you remember one of the funniest things I've seen on a stage, and even Vivian has mentioned this.....at the top of the Oxford show Vivian runs out from under the archway playing the SUAS riff, and falls arse over tit on the monitors. Ronnie and Jimmy ran out and pissed themselves laughing.....Remember?
