    You know I think Norfolk southern should connect with the CSX line and let Amtrak have full control over the NEC to allow full high speed bullet trains.

    Are four tracks really necessary though? It would seem that three tracks - two tracks for passenger plus one for freight would be more than enough.

    • @jg-7780
      @jg-7780 3 года назад +3

      3 tracks would probably be plenty for today’s traffic levels, but demand will likely increase significantly in the next several decades to the point where four tracks will be the best idea.
      We wouldn’t want to build a three track bridge today only to be faced 20 years from now having to build a 2nd bridge at an expense far greater than if we just designed in a 4th track from the get go.

    It's time that the ex-Pennsylvania Railroad bridge got replaced. I may be a Pennsy fan, but even I know that the bridge needs replacement.

      Gammareign it wouldn’t make sense because most of the yards on the NEC aren’t electric so they would be able to go on it

    America has a lot of catching up to do with its rail system, look at countries like India and China who are big countries and are doing just fine with their rail systems. America can learn from both.

    • @thatamerican550
      @thatamerican550 7 лет назад +4

      e.than_w from India? Lol yeah right. From China sure

    • @e.than_w
      @e.than_w 7 лет назад +1

      You do need to learn from India. They have Delhi Metro, Hyderabad Mumbai Express, Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, etc. They are also working with Japan to build a Bullet train system. Link to the article is here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-41251210
      Sure, the trains I have listed are slower than the Acela,but at least India is actually using trains a lot more frequently/more than America will ever do. Considering India's size, its doing quite well for using trains.
      All America needs to do is upgrade their tracks, faster trains and invest more into high speed rail.
      Ps I'm not Indian, but I like the country and the answer is YES you do need to learn from India.
      Considering America is the most highly technological country in the world I'm surprised the country hasn't invested in high speed rail yet.

    • @thatamerican550
      @thatamerican550 7 лет назад

      e.than_w my bad for that, i had no idea India did have high speed rail. I thought you guys probably didn't but you do, well just comes to show far behind the US is in rail technology. We are catching up, but long way to go. The Delhi one was interesting to me

    • @e.than_w
      @e.than_w 7 лет назад

      Hopefully the USA does invest in high speed rail, you are missing out A LOT.
      Though many people argue about India having high speed rail the fastest trains they have go 90mph, which I guess is considered to be "high speed rail". Here in the UK where I live, we have trains going at 125mph - 186mph. In France it's over 200mph same with Japan.
      We'll have to wait and see what Trump does with high speed rail, hopefully he does something about it.. Same with Amtrak, they need to step up their game.

    • @thatamerican550
      @thatamerican550 7 лет назад +1

      e.than_w Probably not with Trump, as the Republicans will find it hard to rally up others to invest that much capital into infrastructure. Democrats are winning elections across the country, and they have been better with spending massive bills to invest in infrastrucute as seen during the Obama administration. Or hopefully the private sector will pick up such as the private rail venture in Florida, Brightline.

    Just put a second Bridge next to it. Then you got not one but 2 bridges which means you never have to worry about it being knocked out cause the other will take its place. It is better in the long run.

      This answer makes sense and has merit. Therefore, the US government cannot use it.

      Csx has a additional bridge that sits a mile up river. Problem is both bridges are over 100 years old

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад +1

      Matt`s Mocs That is the plan. One bridge will be replaced with two bridges with 4 tracks to allow for better service.

    • @jackgibbons6013
      @jackgibbons6013 3 года назад +1

      They will have two bridges in the end, just two new ones. The old bridge has restrictions and will be a maintained black hole. It needs replacement, and two new bridges gives the redundancy you desire.

  • @kajakkille
    @kajakkille 6 лет назад

    Why don’t you have China investing in new rail infrastructure like in Africa. Put the project entirely in Chinese hands and it will be done in 2 years...then Trump can have his tax cuts without putting the financial burden in future generations with the huge loans..

    The video states that there were 6.4 million Amtrak trips across the bridge in 2016. Do the math, that would mean 700+ trains an hour. I doubt that 6.4 million trips were made in the last decade. That would be 70 trips per hour. Maybe they meant 6.4 million rail cars?
