@@omarguerra1838 I’m well aware of the Interstate system. But that’s not used for people in a rush. It’s almost 3,000 miles NYC to LA. @@FFred-us9tw no no I get you. But trains have never been around straight lines. What a train has that a plane doesn’t is its versatility. A whole network connecting all of America with HSR means many stations to middle of nowhere in between cities. Small towns etc etc. at insane speeds. Meaning better than car and for certain ovation even better than plane. Of course flying from one side of the country to the other is way better but people don’t make that trip every day. I mean the interstate goes from east to west and north to south. Think about it when have you ever used the whole stretch. You probably The point is that it exist and that at any point you can use it. Why spend 300 dollars to go from Omaha to LA in 2 hours plus airport times when with HSR you could pay 120 for what 4-5 hours? In car that takes 24 hours. Plus just like the interstate Instread of using it to go from district to district in 20 minutes. I can use HSR from neighbor city to neighbor city in 20 minutes whenever I am not doing big long roadtrips. I would argue US is THE perfect size for a super awesome HSR network

That’s because Amtrak ORIGINALLY wanted to make their own train, but they jumped on another HSR project with a company in Europe to cut corners. Lol. In reality, the train is a jumbled piece of crap. The reason the engines looks different from the coaches is because they ARE different. Two different models mashed into one. The reason this stupid train is so late is because Amtrak was being used by Alstom as guinea pigs to test the train for the European company. They are just too prideful and stupid to admit it.
I love Amtrax and I MUST support our US rail system! Now that I am back in an area with Amtrax, I must make it a point to travel at least once a year via Amtrax!!! Beautiful train!!!
dear American government and state governments, IT'S THE TRACKS THAT ARE THE ISSUE with the Northeast corridor, and American trains overall!! your new trains won't mean much if the old thoroughfares they travel keep them slow as the current acelas. I address America, because multiple freight companies and other organisations own the majority of tracks used by Amtrak
If there was a high speed section of track all the way from the bottom of the north east corridor to the top and high speed trains to run it, Amtrak would not not be so poor
You're absolutely right, the Acela has never been used to its max potential, the infrastructure is what needs the updating...not the Acela trains themselves!

I wish Amtrak would have more direct routes throughout the US, not just in the Northeast. I would not mind paying the surcharge like they have in Europe on sparsely populated lines. I'm sure I'm not alone; more people have to be interested in something better than our airlines or driving forever.
its the SAME train like the french hight speed train TGV... stricly the same.. The difference between both : USA discover high rail speed when Europ use it since 25 years
It's not a TGV. But TGV-derived. This new Acela is a tilting train ( -> Pendolino tech), is an EMU (the TGV has two power cars coupled to un-powered coaches), and can have coaches added or removed easily (the TGV consists in fixed trainsets, coaches can be split only at a depot)
really? If it's a Pendolino derivtive it will be again two power cars with unpowered coaches. It won't, also, ever even think of reaching 220mph, that sounds like some top-class bs. I that thing even reaches commercial 300km/h that'll be already impressive.
so pretty much this is shit that America should have had years ago. I love how they are presenting this as if it's totally new undeveloped technology. America's got a lot of catching up to do
They never said is was undeveloped or totally new concept. In fact in the video and in the news reports they explain that it's being used in several countries with a proven track record. With that being said it is new for the US.
Better late than never USA.. That's actually exciting news to hear were finally joining the new generation of speed train travel.. I'm hoping in the soon future, it evolves into a faster moving train, with connections to top major cities, and secondary cities, giving everyone Amtrak as as an option of travel.. Nice job though

America used to be the one country a lot of other countries dreamed of becoming.. We stopped advancing, while those countries that were once dreaming, put many people to work and literally left us in the dust,( with our eighties and nineties technology ).. Those countries are now twenty to thirty years ahead of us.. What have we been doing that whole time? I'd have to guess making weapons, and golf courses

@@lesliedodds4011 I was pointing out that instead focusing on one thing Europe has, perhaps Europe should focus more on improving individual rights and freedom for people.
It's so fun to see all of the European people that comment on American train videos; I think you guys are just big egomaniacs. I'm from Spain myself and I quite understand the point of why there's no high speed trains in America and why people use the plane more than the train. First of all the US is much larger than any European country (excepting Russia) and adapting, renewing old lines or building new ones would cost billions of dollars and take a lot of time to do; even if it was to be done, it would still be a financial suicide taking in consideration that America is less densely populated than most European countries, and also cities are much further apart from each other than any place in Europe. Then we have to consider that America has a lot of different landscapes, ranging from floodplains to desserts, and it would take lots of money to maintain both the rails and the trains themselves. Also disasters like tornadoes, earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes and floods happen too so rail infrastructure would have to be repaired. And why do Americans use the plane more than the rail? Because of time; even if the train was as fast as any European high speed trains, it would still take ages to get from LA to NY or from Dallas to Chicago, because for the sake of economical sustainability it would have to stop in every mid-size town to make it profitable, while planes can go directly to their destinations without doing many or no stops in its way.
...China has a larger land mass than the Continental US. it also has just as challenging Geography as we do. Yet they are embarking on a programme to build a national network of high speed passenger and even freight rail lines, not just a few "select" corridors. To tell the truth I'd rather take say 20 - 24 hours from Seattle to Chicago on a high speed train than be wedged into that torture device known as an airline coach seat and have someone effectively sitting in my lap for several hours, be treated like crap by the cabin crew, and deal with the indignity of TSA screening as well as worrying if items from my luggage will be pilfered and have to deal with getting into the city when the train travels direct from city centre to city centre. It's not because we don't have the technological resources to do it, it's that we don't have political wherewithal to let it happen.
...while we have been going into massive debt preparing for and fighting pointless wars that only make more enemies so the MICC has more wars to keep it in business. Our currency is a joke as well, total fiat with nothing backing it. I'd rather have the trains.

The video is Slick and the proposed Rolling Stock looks quite advanced. UNFORTUNATELY, the TRACKS in the USA will never support true HIGH SPEED because no one wants to pay for the upgrades. As of today the ACELA , which is the current USA High Speed, can only do TRUE Speed on a small stretch of track .in the Northeast. It would be a Win-Win if it actually could be achieved. Living in Germany I know and appreciate true High Speed Train travel. Best of Luck in the project, it is truly long overdue in America.

Considering all of the speed restrictions on the Northeast Corridor, much like the Acela, these trains will hit top speed for all of 30 seconds through Kingston then slow back down to Metro North speeds for the rest. You can upgrade tracks and catenary lines all you want. Good luck straightening out all the massive curves when buildings are in the way.

My apologies for that then, i thought ive seen videos of bullet trains without a cable system (Catenary). I live right off the Amtrak/metro-north in new york, and don't see this being implemented in the next... 20 years... i don't think people realize how big of a project that is, and how many millions of commuters will be effected during construction, theres no place to build the new rail system other then on top of the current rails. Atleast for the 100+ mile section that runs along the hudson river which leads directly into new york city's Grand Central.
Sko Bird yes, that's true. That's the reason why these trains won't travel over 220 mph in the near future, they have to build a completely straight track, wich will affect millions of passengers as you said. When Amtrak shows in the video that the train will run on current infrastructure, it means they will update the tracks, but they won't build new ones. That's the reason why tilting is so important in this new train. And there aren't electric high speed trains running without a catenary, but there are tramways wich use a third rail to get energy.
Yeah let just replace all railway bridges/tunnels/viaducts every 5 years so its all new......are you f%@#*&$ kidding me.....people around the world use that kind of infrastructure that was built 50+ years ago.....cause i know this might be foreign to most modern Americans but there WAS a point in history when Americans oh I don't know 'BUILT THINGS TO LAST'!!!!! Also the concept of over engineering a bridge is a completely foreign concept to you isn't it? Why would a railway engineer ever only build a bridge/Tunnel to only handle what was currently available???? That is an incredibly stupid idea cause guess what once something only marginally faster/longer/heavier/taller came out WELP time to start over????? No railroad would pay for something with that short of a life span....railroads are all about longevity and getting long lasting value for their limited investment capital.
lineinf332 Could you link me to which TGV/Shinkansen/Chinese HSR have bridges and tunnels that old? Lol @ NEC trains having to significantly slow down for and even stop for drawbridges. Ahaha
Our TGV (i'm french) run through old and new lines. High speed lines (speed over 200km/h, usually 320 km/h) are all new ones with new tunnels and new bridges. Between France and England the tunnel under the sea is totally new, thus making London 2:20 away from Paris ; city center to city center.
Here is some perspective. The US has a population of 319M and 300 Train Journeys per Day . France has a population of 66M and has 14,000 Train Journeys per Day of which 800 are High Speed.
France is a very small country you shoud compare USA with EU and France with Wisconsin, California ou Montana. For french people driving through Montana was such an experience as landing on the moon. No comparison is possible 60M vs .9M inhabitants. An we have no (or very rare) bears. ;-)
+Philippe Durand If we compare the United States to the EU, the comparison will still be unfavorable for the United States. Comparisons, however, are possible because, although we have large swathes of sparsely populated land, we also have large cities within largely urbanized regions. It's a shame that the United States doesn't have high speed rail but this development is a great start and in the region that would benefit most from it.
This new type of "next generation" of Acela/Avelia Liberty would be good for it's company being made by Alstom, a comfortable, soft and aerodynamic ride! Alstom should really put this in by this month!

Ho Lee Fuk oh soo you say that everyone in USA owns a plane? And every country has a freight train. In Romania we have many freight trains but each freight train is owned by a private company. And your comment is stupid.
I’m excited for this new set of train cars although I think the high speed service could really use an expansion. Currently Acela only operates on the Northeast Corridor, a route already operated and used by many other services. I think that with the new trains cars should also come new high speed routes on other corridors such as in California and the Cascades. International high speed would also be a great addition, such as a route from Windsor in southern Canada to Chicago via Detroit:
I am tired of reading comments like not faster than TGV, CHR, shinkansen. Alstom built it. airline is faster. Rome was not built in a day. Every engineering requires time, human asset who has specialized knowledge. step by step!
Nice video! Now Amtrak has had the Avelia Liberty doing some test runs on the Northeast Corridor to make everything safe and that's what Amtrak does. Awesome service, comfortable seating and lots more on Amtrak! So Amtrak if you see this, I would like for you to respond to this!

You're absolutely right, the Acela has never been used to its max potential, the infrastructure is what needs the updating...not the Acela trains themselves!
yep, you do not wanna go to fast around Newark DE
Yep. In all likelyhood this train will be going over the same exact decrepit lift bridges that stop service to accommodate ponderous barges.
I find it interesting that you address this to America and not Amtrak for these concerns.
A very majestic train if you ask me. Imagine this beautiful train meets a rugged freight train along side it.
I’m pretty sure I saw a photo somewhere on the internet where it passed a freight train on the nec by seabrook

I wish Amtrak would have more direct routes throughout the US, not just in the Northeast. I would not mind paying the surcharge like they have in Europe on sparsely populated lines. I'm sure I'm not alone; more people have to be interested in something better than our airlines or driving forever.
Well it is built by Alstom, the guys who made the Pendolino, so it should be good as that is super comfortable.
True. To me it's all under the Alstom umbrella.
its the SAME train like the french hight speed train TGV... stricly the same..
***** Yeah. However, I think that it may not be the greatest idea as the coupling isn't solid like a Pendolino\APT.
really? If it's a Pendolino derivtive it will be again two power cars with unpowered coaches. It won't, also, ever even think of reaching 220mph, that sounds like some top-class bs. I that thing even reaches commercial 300km/h that'll be already impressive.
Happy 50th birthday Amtrak!

Very good, if tourists to America could tour America on Amtrak.
that is the best thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life 😮😮😮😮😮😮
It's so fun to see all of the European people that comment on American train videos; I think you guys are just big egomaniacs.
Juan Zarate Finally an intelligent comment.
...China has a larger land mass than the Continental US. it also has just as challenging Geography as we do.
China is building that purely for vanity reasons, and going in to massive debt for shit like that. Why don't you ask a chinaman about their currency?
...while we have been going into massive debt preparing for and fighting pointless wars that only make more enemies so the MICC has more wars to keep it in business. Our currency is a joke as well, total fiat with nothing backing it.
I'd rather have the trains.
I'd rather not have anything that undermines rational economics and voluntary interaction.

Idk what the fuck the cables are for, japans bullet train doesnt have fuckin cables. Makin us look sloppy.
Japanese trains HAVE cables, it's not possible for an electric train to run without a catenary (that's how the cables are called)
Ignacio Mainardi clearly you've never heard of third rail, electric trains in the South of England use that quite extensively
Love how amtrak finally adopted the UK's tilting technology. Hello from Canada!
it's on the regular Acelas already, and the first tilting car design was built in 1937.

An we have no (or very rare) bears. ;-)
Yeah lol stop copying.
Gavin Wateski Am I copying a piece of literature or song lyrics? I am just restating some statistical and very public data.
Put another way, population density in square kilometers, in France: 114 people/square kilometer, in the U.S: 33 people/square kilometer
So we're tragically and hilariously behind in our rail transport. This is BIG for us! Let us have our moment :P
Because we rely on air transport. And we are the best in that aspect. A high speed train cannot hope to match a boeing airliner in terms of speed.
But it can in terms of capacity, reliability, and adaptability.
