Missed my video on the best 4K Blu-rays of 2024 so far? Here it is ---> ruclips.net/video/Kae66fxsqVA/видео.html
Possibly an odd thing to say, but it’s good to hear some film reviews that aren’t positive. It’d be easy to imagine that people posting only ever say good things, so to hear some negative comments reassures me that some standards are at play.
There are a few films here that I will look out for in coming weeks or possible sales, so thanks, Elliot!
I’m glad to see you’ve transitioned to using a stand for the movies. I always thought it had to have been tiring to keep holding the discs up during the entire video 😂
@@KyleSturgeon it absolutely does get tiring, especially because my videos take a lot longer to film than the duration of the final video! This set up is better for me :)
I appreciate that you provide thoughtful recommendations vs other channels that cheerlead every release.
@@DIsmayedConfuse thank you very much for the kind comment!
For a moment, Elliot, I thought you were reenacting a scene from the Sonny Chiba fights a bear movie when you were wrestling with the Lawn Mower man series.
@@localnut1 that’s not too far off the mark!
Agree wholeheartedly with you about Naruse. Would love to see more films of his become available.
People need to be aware of his genius
@@frankgetz6743 I really hope we see more soon!
@@ElliotCoen are you familiar with Ki-duk Kim or Patrice Leconte? Those are 2 directors i feel should be more talked about.
Been a fan of the 1995 Drive since I randomly caught it late night on cable. There indeed is a 4K from 88Films/MVD Rewind.
Naruse is one of the great Japanese film-makers, I'm amazed he doesn't figure heavily in the Criterion Collection, I have a few of his films on DVD, my favourite is 'Yearning' (1964).
Mr & Mrs Smith is great for the first hour, but the premise is very thin and stretched to breaking point, the film sadly runs out of ideas. Worth seeing for the 2 leads, Robert Montgomery is very funny in this film. Carry on collecting those Hitchcocks (and let me know if ever you find a copy of The Mountain Eagle - you are the man to do it ! )
Just received my copy of “Lizard in a Woman’s Skin” and yes, it’s a superb release for, arguably, one of Fulci’s finest films (Thus and Dint Tirture A Duckling would probably be my personal favourites) …
… anyway, as I can see by your video (plus squinting till it hurts!) your copy, like mine, has a frustrating misspelling on the front and spine and says Flim instead of Film. Yes, it’s a minor thing amidst all the goodness but, like the booklet in the Fassbender Vol. 1 Boxset from Arrow, it still gnaws on my brain like an unwelcome pest!
Still, as I said it’s a great film and another top Umbrella release. It’s a shame they’re a touch pricey to import (maybe you know if a cheaper way?) as their lineup is top tier stuff. Recent pickups have included Razorback and Dead End Drive In, the two Larry Clark films, Tank Girl and a preorder of Timecrimes though Eyes Without A Face is taunting me!
Always a good time when I see a notification for a new video from you!
@@jakedanx thank you Jake!
Thanks, Elliot. I’m going to look into Remembrance. I’m spent up for a few weeks but I’ve just watched The Landlord on Radiance which was incredible and I’ve got Risky Business to look forward to.
Bandits of Orgosolo + The Lost World is probably my most desired edition at the moment. If no one gets it for me for my upcoming birthday that will almost certainly be my next purchase
Tom Cruise says he watches one movie a day, you’ll be fine.
@@MO-tp8lh just one a day? We gotta pump those rookie numbers up
Great video as always.
Regarding The Lawnmover Man set. Mine are just as tight 😀
Hi Elliot are you getting Double Idemnity coming Sep 2nd, me never seen it, will be out off the country till late on the 16th.
Among all those films, I only know The Uninvited! 😮
Definitely want to get into so Fukusaku yakuza films! I love Battle Royale of course and he co-directed one of my favourite war films, Tora Tora Tora. I also just got the Miike remake of Graveyard of Honor though I haven’t seen the original
I hope you get Lawnmower Man out of the box to be able to watch again someday lol
I wish some are the labels like curzon had regions that played in the U.S.
Catacombs sounded right up my street , but i,m not so sure now. 🤔 hey, thats what reviews are for!😄
Do The Umbrella Blu Rays pay in region A machine?
@@juancmorenor i believe most of the Umbrella titles are region free. Might be worth checking their website or socials for more info if you need. Cheers!
Do you know when Amadeus 4k is coming out?
Assume the Flash TV series is a region A set ... pity, would have been great to see in the UK
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Warner Archive don’t region lock their discs so it’ll play on a UK player, if importing is an option for you. I don’t see it getting a UK release personally
Clearly, you've never bought a Warner Archive disc or watch any videos before. Where do these random people come from. Who also seems unable to use Google.
The Bandits Of Orgosolo is set in Corsica & is available to stream from Prime from an excellent print, highly recommended. I recently watched The Queen Of Spades, an excellent movie of its time done under extreme conditions. I have the Anchor Bay DVD of The Man Who Haunted himself & considering it was directed by Basil Dearden, was a big disappointment, perhaps I should rewatch it? Cheers!
Can someone recommend what site is best to import Imprint titles from?
Does BFI generally do a good job with their transfers? I’m considering importing the Watership Down 4k to the US when it comes out.
@@extofer yes I’d say so!
They usually have best 4K available and are usually strict on picking which ones to upgrade focusing on movies that flourish with the upgrade. So the new seven samurai bfi 4K will be a must have
Is the table set up the new look? I do miss the chair.
It is indeed
Loving all the videos lately Elliot! I enjoy them all. I actually forgot what i was going to ask you haha but i just want to say thanks. You're a busy movie watcher! One quick question, what movies are those above your left shoulder that are white and multi colored? I dont recognize them ;)
@@slave_to_cinema thank you! Those are from the Second Run label- great world cinema releases!
@@ElliotCoen oh ok! May have to check those out!
I have to say I've grown a little disappointed with Imprint's output over the years. Their first few months were 10/10, and in the last couple of years I feel they've been releasing maybe 1 or 2 decent films every 4-6 months amongst a whole heap of mediocre stuff. I respect them for putting out stuff that might not see the light of day from other labels - but as one of only two boutique labels here in my homeland, it's a bit of a shame as I'd love to buy way more than I do. Or they will put a really good film into a boxset of average films and you're expected to throw down crazy money for essentially one good film.
Too many films already!!!!
Sorry, but Risky Business wasn't saying anything about capitalism. It was a comedy, nothing more. Good film, but certainly not a political statement.
Agreed. Nothing more than a young guy discovering how to capitalize on the oldest profession in the world, to comic and occasionally erotic results.
@@michaelsmith1262 no need to be sorry about your opinion!
The tension between young Joel's personal desires and the societal expectations that come with financial privilege is almost certainly a critique of capitalist values that prioritize success and materialism over individual fulfillment. The film also suggests that under capitalism, individuals may resort to questionable means to achieve their desires or maintain their lifestyles e.g. Joel's relationship with Rebecca de Mornay's character is transactional and these relationships and the commodification of intimacy are inherent in capitalist societies. Risky Business is just a comedy on the surface, but it is actually a comedy with depth
Never seen Risky Business, but to single out Ferris of all things, as "just a John Hughes movie"... Noooo, Elliot... That one ACTUALLY tackles some serious topics along the way.
@@scmkar Yes, I also believe more serious topics than Risky Business.
