- I started collecting a new label of boutique blu-rays called Second Run. They're a UK-based company that puts out lots of international films on blu-ray and DVD. I just made my first order with them. Let me know if you have any titles from Second Run. And if you do collect Second Run, which titles would you recommend?

Hey guys! I forgot to mention that all of the Blu-rays in this video are region free and played fine on my region A player. Three Wises for Cinderella did not play, so it looks like their DVDs are region B locked. Just keep that in mind if you decide to take a look at their site.
that version of Beauty & the Beast is on my watchlist this month!
Looks like the designer of their packaging was a fan of the Eclipse series.
I've heard excellent things about Three Wishes for Cinderella. I will add it to my Christmas watch list (you can never have enough Christmas movies, haha). The new intro looks lovely, by the way! 🔥
I have a few Second Run releases. I can definitely recommend the Czech time-travel sci-fi film Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea, and Goodbye Dragon Inn.
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
You should check out their release of Goodbye, Dragon Inn. One of the greatest films ever made.
Oh cool. Thanks for the recommendation. Looking it up now
I have the Second Run release of it, it’s fantastic. There is a US specific label that has also released it (Metrograph maybe? Idk)
Fantastic film
It's a great label for sure.If you haven't seen them they have two classic comedies from Milos Forman,Black Peter and A Blonde in Love from the 60s.Another great Czech romcom is Closely Observed Trains by Jiri Menzel which won best Oscar for foreign film 8n 1966.
I haven't seen those! Thanks so much for the recommendations. I'll add them to my list.
great label check out my twentieth century, ikarie xb-1 and celia all on second run! and Jancsó is a legend!
For me the most essential Second Run release is The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On. Really fascinating documentary that begs the question of at what point should a documentarian step in to influence the actions of their subject.
One of the greatest documentaries of all time, definitely a must-buy. They have some other really interesting documentaries too
One of my favourite labels, being based in the UK, I tend to pick them up when they're on sale. 9 times out of 10 the films are superb - there are a few in the whole colection that didn't do much for me - Liberté being one of them...
Second Run is great, I’ve been getting them for years now. It’s great that they’re region free, the blu-rays anyways. I see you saw the dvds are locked. Three Wishes for Cinderella is one of my most desired upgrades, I’ve been waiting for that one since I discovered Second Run. I’m glad they put out so many Central and Eastern European films, especially czech films.
Some of my highest recommendations:
The Cassandra Cat
Andrzej Wajda’s War Trilogy
Ikarie-XB1
Distant Journey
The Shop on the High Street
Larks on a String
The Circus Tent
Tomorrow I’ll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea
Witchhammer
The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On
How You Live Your Story: Selected works by Kevin Jerome Everson
CzechMate: In Search of Jiří Menzel
El Mar la Mar
I've got a few of their releases so far, really great label, only wish they had more releases! I would recommend the War Trilogy by Andrej Wajda, superb set of films.
They do have sales. Usually when Arrow have a big sale on their website a bunch of the Second Run Blu-ray titles are also on offer for £9.99. As well as "Third Window Films" titles, another boutique (one man band) label you can start collecting. 😀
Third Window has some really fun and wild Japanese films
Twilight (Szürkület, 1990), Coach to Vienna (Kočár do Vídně, 1966, Ikarie XB 1 (196), The Devil's Trap (Ďáblova past, 1961), to name a few
New logo jump scare!!
Love the new logo. Catchy and Simple. I haven't been familiar with Second Run, but I am familiar with some of these director's works and it looks like you've made some great choices. I love Czech films. I know you've watched VALERIE and probably DAISIES, I love both as am sure you do, too. I would recommend watching the early releases of Jan Švankmajer, if you haven't already: ALICE; FAUST; LITTLE OTIK; LUNACY.
Thanks, Henry! Really appreciate the feedback on the new intro. I've liked the Švankmajer I've seen, but that's only Alice and Faust. Little Otik has been on my watchlist for years now. I need to finally get to that.
Švankmajer has a great region-free blu-ray boxset directly from his website, it’s pricy though
I really liked Current in the Hungarian box set
Great! New films for me!
I just watched Three Wishes for Cinderella based on your recommendation. I really liked it. I’ve really liked every Czech film I’ve seen. You should check out Marketa Lazarova (sick) and The Cremator (super sick).
Sweet! I'm glad you liked it. It gave me Donkey Skin vibes. I'll be watching Marketa Lazarova this month, and I've decided I'm going to pick up The Cremator in the next Criterion Sale.
Take a took at the Polish section for second run as well I’m into their Romania films as well. Look at Wajda’s trilogy
The Saragossa Manuscript from this label looks really interesting.
I like that movie! I need to get it on blu-ray because I just saw an old DVD
Oh cool. I didn’t know Second Run had that. l just bought the Blu-ray from Yellow Vail last month
@@FilmsByColor on second look, it looks like that was what I saw. The cover styles are similar.
Also, just to highlight some of my favourite films they've released:
The Cremator
Goodbye Dragon Inn
The Devil's Trap
Valerie and Her Week of Wonders
Luminous Procuress - which is not going to be for everyone...
Those uk labels are so dangerous because theyre so good but also is addictive collecting them and very expensive 😢
Thanks, DJ! I plan to start living a life of decadent opulence tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.
Yuss!! But also my wallet!!
RIP
The thumbnail reminds me of the Kevin James meme.
Hahaha “When I start collecting a new label… again:”
@@ConnerNielsen6 thank you. I was worried that reference was too Gen Z.
Have you seen The Cremator?
I haven’t. That one’s in the Criterion Collection, right?
@@FilmsByColor Yes it is and it's really good.
@@FilmsByColor check out 'The Ear' (Ucho, 1970)
I live in Dallas & movie trading company is my church lol
Haha, I’m jealous. Seems like an awesome chain. My company’s main office is in Plano, so I visited a couple stores near there a few months back.
