    The leatt pants arrived today.
    Size chart has me in medium, i got large, very very tight. The leather is behing my leg NOT inside my leg. Feel strong, maybe waterproof, will try to return.
    I can't afford to throw away tires that are barely warn, but as soon as these Motoz are done, Im definition going for a properly 70/30 or 60/40 road bias tire and one that is softer to grip the road and the rocks off road.
    All my big offs on this bike, street and dirt, may not have happened with softer tires.
    But, if anyone in Japan wants second-hand Motoz, let me know😂😂

      I'm looking at continental tkc70 rocks or perelli mt60

      As soon as my karoos are worn out I'll be getting a 70% or maybe even 80% road tire. Most of the dirt I do is dirt roads. Rather fall off slow off road because I have a road tire than fall off fast on the tarmac because I have a too much off road tire.

    • @DragoniteMotoJP
      @DragoniteMotoJP  19 дней назад

      Right.
      And a front is what's lightly to cause a crash. Fronts last longer, so a softer front is not that big a loss in range but a big gain in safety

    Black ice is a bummer but I find those metal road-joiner things are super-slippery in any season on a corner in Japan. Sounds like they weren't the main issue in your case though. Hopefully your video will convince some people to wear gear.

    You are very lucky to come out uninjured. Probably shouldn't be riding in those conditions at those speeds, but I did it when I was younger too. I'll take my tdub 200 out in the snow but the transalp stays in the garage till it's warmer. Hope you get everything sorted out to ride again. You had good gear and it worked out well for ya. A good example of how well riding gear does it's job.

      @DragoniteMotoJP  6 дней назад +2

      15 years riding.
      This bike losses front wheel traction often.
      I've ridden other bikes on other tires faster on the same road trouble free.
      This si the first bike every ti slide like this.
      But yes, somewhere between good gear and luck to literally walk it off
      Just finished setting up the bike today and new gear is here.
      I'll be out in Monday

    Wet roads are always dubious for me even on full road tyres like Conti RoadAttack 4. I always ride extra carefully when it rains.
    In your case it was a mix of off road oriented tyres, coldness and wetness. Those three make a good slide... lul 😂😂
    I'm not riding anymore in cold weather but when I used to I can remember everytime I would take off at traffic lights in autumn when the mornings where already pretty cold near freezing my back tyre would always slip in those "take off corners". It's just shitty when it's cold and wet... That's just not a good for motorcycle riding or anything on two wheels...

    • @DragoniteMotoJP
      @DragoniteMotoJP  19 дней назад

      It is a bad combination.
      My frustration is after 15 years, this is the onlybbike I've ever lost the front end on, and it is not so perfect even in warm dry days.
      Other bikes and tires I've ridden wetter, colder, and faster.
      But winter in the mountains is a risk.

    • @majormassenspektrometer
      @majormassenspektrometer 18 дней назад

      @@DragoniteMotoJP Well with these offroadish tyres you have even less rubber to tarmac contact than with road tyres and it also depends on the rubber composition. Just a bad combination. Next time you know to be more careful with this bike. Maybe Conti TrailAttack 3 are better under these conditions....

    front tire being narrow had nothing to do with slide, suspension most likely also. No tire will keep you upright on ice.
    BUT there are tires that are better in low temps and slippery surface, the key is compound. Motoz adv you hace on rear is terrible compound for such conditions.
    I can only highly recommend my current front as winter tire(rear i also have motoz adv) which is K60 RANGER. You might think its too aggresive for you, but trust me, its very modern tire with modern compound and i trust it with my life in winter almost every day, its constantly surprises me how it holds like on rails while rear is all over place constantly.
    On street it allows you to ride like youre on street tire, idk if not even better than A41 which i liked too. Also reacts very well to lowering pressure for offroad.
    drop it to 1.5bar and i can ride my AT like on enduro in forests

    • @DragoniteMotoJP
      @DragoniteMotoJP  16 дней назад +1

      The tire slipped as many have before for me on Ice, but the tires didn't really grab after the short ice patch. Which my street bikes have on the same road at the same temps.
      Street bikes and track bike have the 17in front for quicker steering and a 120 instead of a narrow 90 for better grip. So yes, this is why bmw sticks to a 120/80-19 on the front. And why vstrom has a wider short wheel on the more road bias bike. Better street grip and warms up faster.
      I can say with 100% confidence my front is worse on the street than the stock tires and there is a big gap between the rear and the stock tire.
      But they are beasts off road

  • @hawgietonight
    @hawgietonight 19 дней назад +2

    You are OK that's what is important! I wouldn't blame the tires on ice any tire would have done the same. What I should be looking into one of those airbag jackets...

    • @DragoniteMotoJP
      @DragoniteMotoJP  19 дней назад

      I'll never ride without any Airbag again.
      This bike and tire have slipped the front on good weather rides. This was far from my most aggressive rides. But other tires on other bikes I've push harder in colder conditions.
      Ice didn't help, but these tires are tricky in good days

    Thanks for showing what happened and glad you're okay. For a front tyre you can try Anakee wild or Golden tyre gt823 as I believe it's M+S rated. Also I do counter leaning when it's slippery, same as on a gravel. Ryan F9 did a video about counter leaning. Cheers.

    In Australia cattle grids can catch people out …rule of thumb …take any metal surface on a road at slow speed and SQUARE ON ….with your front tyre.And don’t accelerate or brake over metal surfaces .
    This comment is aimed at all of us …including myself , so easy to forget .
    Wonder what setting your Traction was set on ?
    ABS on a 300 rally I owned saved me on slime hiding in the shadows in Australia , was braking late into a corner front wheel started to slide felt a pulse bike didn’t go down .
    300 rally didn’t have cornering ABS but something worked .
    Maybe you could report what setting your Traction control was on ?

      @ Sorry thought the metal plate was behind the location of ice on the road , just commented as observed myself nearly go down recently on an innocuous cattle grid here in summery Australia , I wasn’t square on and accelerated …have ridden for decades but sometimes we all lose concentration.
      Glad you are ok 80 km per hour is a fair speed , that airbag looks a lifesaver , have done over 13000kms on Transalp in 4 mths but mainly on back road bitumen .
      Will look out for more videos on your channel .👍

    Black ice will ruin anyone's day. I don't ride if it's been wet and is cold enough to freeze up. Two wheels are NOT holding traction leaned on black ice.
    I LOVE trailmax raids on my scrambler 1200. Never get into deep sand or mud, just because there isn't much near me. Great on road, great on anything I can find off road. Soft, high silicate. Mostly road, they last about 6k miles.

  • @StoltHD
    @StoltHD 16 дней назад

    Only way to have some kind of grip on ice is to use winter tires (with studs where legal)... M+S are not winter tires.
    You could as well have had soft street tires, the result would have been the same, the rubber on any type of tire except winter tires will be hard when it is cold, especially when the tarmac/asfalt temperature goes down against freezing point...

    • @DragoniteMotoJP
      @DragoniteMotoJP  16 дней назад

      Sorry I wasn't more clear in the video.
      The ice was short. The front tire didn't re-grip after the ice.
      All the road focused tires I've had in the past have slipped in the winter, but catch after the ice, and I don't go down.

      I'm 95kg, coming out of health troubles planing ti get back down to 80kg.

      @ I have a KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. It’s a street bike that some people try to take off road. I have been struggling trying to decide if I want to put off road tires on it or just keep it for the street. It’s extremely heavy and I’d have to limit off road either way. My other option is I have been hunting for a WR250R for dual sport riding but again, a tough decision. And will I really ride two bikes?

    LOL. Only fools will travel like this.
    You were on a cold, iced pavement with shade on the road in spots. No tires would have had grip.
    You have alot to learn. But we all start some where.
    You are funny at least.
    The forks should never twist from any riding! Only on falls and crashes. Make sure you align properly and use a torque wrench on all fasteners.
