I so hope that your enthusiasm for life is an 'always on, it's just who I am' thing and not a 'making a video' thing. It's lovely to see someone who seems to be enjoying and making the most of everyday.
Hey Alanna, hope you are well and enjoying the warmer weather. There's something joyous about seeing the expression on your hungry face when eating food. It's nowhere near as picturesque as that one but we have a place like that, although it's more of a farmer's market than a supermarket. It's also really expensive but worth it for a treat. Cheers for the video. :-)
You should have a day out in Rye !! It is just over the border in Sussex but I think it's the nicest place I have ever been !!! It's all cobbled with beach stones and really old black and white houses etc , and you would get a good day out video from there! And it's one of the cinque port !
@Nicky L Keelham makes me laugh, there were 2, one in Keelham itself and another on the outskirts of Skipton. I believe the owners, who were part of the same family fell out so now the one in Keelham is now called Robertshaw's and the one in Skipton is still called Keelham. The mind boggles, both fantastic shops though.
I've been to quite a few places like this and it seems to me they are often located in low footfall areas relying on tourists so they cant make money by selling large amounts and have to survive with increased prices. Result: lots of people looking around but few purchases.
The egg in the home made scotchbegg looked so rich and organic. I liked the fact that you had the bottle opener stashed in your back pocket ready for the cider.

Hi Alanna, the difference between supermarket and fresh home cooked products. I remember watching a cookery program with the late Gary Rhodes where he cooked a large pork pie and scotch eggs, and some vegan options. People were trying samples and enjoying everything but, the best comment was from a man who said “WOW! These must be good, my wife has been vegan for over twenty years, I’ve not seen her eat meat since she was 13 or 14, and she has just eaten one of your scotch eggs and a slice of pork pie!’ And there she was red faced enjoy seconds.
Renato Cuomo the guy who started the food hall is from Italy, so he really cared about quality food, he would always get loads of top quality unusual veg and fruit. He built the food hall up from that. I always look for something I've not tried before. This weekend I got red bananas and fresh green almonds. He used to have a fish mongers (Herman's Plaice) where the food stalls now are. They moved to Standard Quay by the creek in Faversham. If you like fish they're worth a try.
My sister lives in Faversham, her husband grew up there, I've been there a few times, but I've never heard of Macknade's. I'll be sure to ask them about it and find out why they've never mentioned it. Perhaps I will visit. Thank you for teaching us about it.
Worked for a time in Faversham. One of the really unspoiled towns in Kent, surrounded by suburbs and housing estates, but they didn't gut the town for another identical high street shopping centre in the 1960s.

Hi Alanna, Really enjoyed watching...great review! Loved the casual appearance of the opener...nice one! 👍😂 Thank you for the outing! Take really good care, stay safe! Much love Kathy x 💖
If you are into cider and Farm Shops, then you have to go Middle Farm in Firle, East Sussex. It has a barn that houses the "National Cider and Perry Collection" and they press their own apples. I know it is a bit out of your way, but I assure you, it is worth it. Not sure what its hours are at the moment but I would say worth the trip sometime one summer weekend. Ever had Perry before? - brilliant stuff!!
I haven't tried any of the things you tried! I've never had a pork pie, a scotch egg or cider lol, im glad you liked them tho! That market looked really cool! It's always nice seeing you explore new places! This video was really nice! Thank you so much for making it :)
Pork pies and Scotch eggs can be dire, but good quality versions are a class apart. The same goes for cider. You can get a couple of litres for around three quid for stuff that tastes like antifreeze, but a decent cider is delicious.
I like Booths supermarkets. There are only about twenty something of them, and they are all in the North of England, so I don’t often get the chance to use them.
Alanna you’re so funny. You are correct that craft bakers, etc cost a little more but are so good for you and far exceed the taste of regular supermarket
Do you live in Kent? I live right on the border of Greater London and Kent and so have the greatest city in the world and the garden of England on my doorstep! Hope you're having a wonderful time in our wonderful country 😀
I think you’ve discovered artisan stuff is a treat to savour, in almost all cases stuff that’s hand made will be a bit more expensive but the reward is noticeable. Maybe when you do another artisan adventure you set a budget and see within reason what you can find. There’s plenty of fine food and drink to explore. Make sure you keep a record or a few notes and gradually explore Kent which is the garden of England.

My wife and I have been to the shop several times, but never eaten there before. Thanks to your video, today we tried Taco Bill there. Thank you for the recommendation. We also bought some meat pie and scotch eggs, which we'll try later.
For myself, one of life's great delights is hearing a Canadian utter the words "out" and "about" etc. It's so different from Americans or Brits. I've tried many times to replicate it the way Canadians say it, and fail miserably. I first went to Canada in 1991 and stayed at St. Catharine's (Toronto State?) and those were the two words that always stuck with me as being so differently pronounced from other words and phrases. Just love the Canadian accent!! I may just have to record those 2 words spoken by Alanna and have them play back on a loop - and no, I'm not a weirdo!
Happy Summer Alanna ! Hey, that place sounds worthy of a regular trip out there - your budget permitting 😊 Loved the single scotch egg juggling thing you did, could be the start of a new career. cheers !
looks like a cool place Alanna, more important would you shop there again, unfortunately we dont have them here along the coast, but looks good all the same, nice to see you out and about, hope your enjoying the lovely weather :-)
Whilst watching your video, I recalled that sometimes my mum would make her own beef burgers. So I've come up with this combination to mix in a bowl. Minced beef, chopped onion and grated beetroot which is bonded together with two whisked eggs. This is then rolled into balls and then squeezed to form a beef burger shape in a frying pan. Even though I stopped eating meat over 30 odd years ago, I still like its smell, just but not the look. All the very best, Trevor from East London.
Before I stopped using alcohol I used to enjoy a glass of cider. The big name brands are often made from apple juice concentrate but many smaller ones are from freshly pressed juice from local orchards. I used to enjoy the smoky flavour of Westons Oak Conditioned with its tannins from oak barrels. My wife likes Aspall’s Suffolk ciders. Be warned these can be over 8% alcohol so are approaching a wine strength.
You've hit the nail on the head Alanna - local luxury produce wins almost every time against larger store brands, but they are on the expensive side. I've got a couple of places similar to Macknades near me and every so often I treat myself because it's so totally worth it for the sheer taste and quality. Pre-covid there used to be a regular country market in Guildford High Street with stalls loaded with quality food from all around the South of England and I can't wait for it to come back (they even had haddock scotch eggs which were yummy!!)
Another cracking video that makes me hungry! It does just show that if you want something really tasty its worth paying a bit for a non factory product from an artisan producer. That scotch egg looked so nice. New house still looking lovely.
I know what you mean about the Scotch eggs, I got a couple (£3.50 each) from a local tearoom/cake shop near me in Washington, Tyne & Wear, OMG, compared to a supermarket egg is like night and day !
Wow, Alanna, i havent been to Macknades for years. You made my mouth water with every mouthful you took.. Get a sponsership because as i am now making plans for a shopping Trip. Xx great vid as always.
What we got from this;- 1) Alanna gets hungry, a lot, & like buying things, a lot. The perfect relationship! 2) British Farm shops are the best! 3) Her partner got to eat a supper of 'not the bottom of the barrel, grey blobby meal' of Tesco leftover scotch egg & pork pie!
That food looked amazing!!! Never been to Macknade's (feel like I need to see this cider wall myself lol), it reminds me of a few places I've been in Surrey. They're great for a wander & you can get some really tasty stuff but it's so expensive! Definitely a nice occasional treat... Getting hungry thinking about it! 😂
Britain is unusual it has quite a range of supermarkets from Waitrose down to Asda - and the price reflects that Asda on a budget fine, Waitrose if you can afford it fine. France in comparison has two city major city supermarkets Carrefour Monoprix - and it has small traditional shops and out of town.
In my opinion Melton Mowbray pork pie, is the king of Pies! Something maybe you can look into with some foods is that certain cheeses and food like a “Melton Mowbray Pork Pie” they are regionally protected and can only be made within a certain distance of that place. Love your videos!
The scotch egg looked like a burford brown, you can buy them in Tesco and M&S, yolks go from that rich orange upto red. For cheap scotch egg drown them in Worcestershire sauce.
Alanna thanks for this week's video ..The independent shops/ food halls are great but can be expensive. .They have unusual stuff..Also you got sunburnt, what next..
Haha... I had 2 Scotch eggs and a mega salad (including tomatoes, cucumber, spring onions and mixed lettuce leaves) for my dinner all washed down with homemade lemonade. Pork pies, mmm. In fact, any pie, cold meat or hot are ALL welcome. :)
I so hope that your enthusiasm for life is an 'always on, it's just who I am' thing and not a 'making a video' thing. It's lovely to see someone who seems to be enjoying and making the most of everyday.

I know what you mean about the Scotch eggs, I got a couple (£3.50 each) from a local tearoom/cake shop near me in Washington, Tyne & Wear, OMG, compared to a supermarket egg is like night and day !
Great looking pie and Scotch egg. Crying out for a little piccallili.
If you want a Scotch egg from the high Street that is similar to the Macnades, go to M&S.
I'm hungry pretty early today, today too! Starting on some enchiladas and Spanish rice w/avocado & pintos w/a good Czech beer!
Another great video, Alanna! 7 out of 7 secret Kent supermarkets from me!
🥳
Wow, Alanna, i havent been to Macknades for years. You made my mouth water with every mouthful you took.. Get a sponsership because as i am now making plans for a shopping Trip. Xx great vid as always.
Thanks so much!
What we got from this;-
1) Alanna gets hungry, a lot, & like buying things, a lot.
It's so good! Apparently they've got a shop in Ashford, too!
@@AdventuresAndNaps love reading the comments and the sharing of info & jokey banter.
The sandwiches at the restaurant looked delicious! Thanks for sharing these culinary delights with us...
Thanks for watching!
Great video as always Alanna, the pie and scotch egg looked really good. 🙂
Thank you!!
