I used to live in the top half of an old house (17th century) The first 3 nights in there, I was sat on while sleeping in my bed. The first time it happened I thought I must have been dreaming, although I wasn't asleep to my knowledge, and put it down to stress/overtired. But it happened the following 2 nights and really freaked me out. Then, I met the neighbour from downstairs who asked if I'd met the ghost yet I told her what had happened and she suggested moving my bed - so I did and it never happened again.
Our ghost was just annoying - used to move things all the time, especially shoes from next to the door where I'd kicked them off as I came in at night - they often turned up placed neatly underneath the sideboard in the sitting room or in the wardrobe
Things that 'moved' had usually been put away/tidied up. I used to say that we'd a ghost with OCD.
We also could hear footsteps in the sitting room when we were sat in there just like someone waking past you. And the smell of a wood fire, even though we didn't have any open fires . Too many strange things to mention, really.
We just got used to it in the end, whatever it was never harmed us - was just annoying. I used to shout 'I suppose you think that's funny' at it occasionally.

Bad 'ghosts' tend to make themselves known immediately, & you can command them to leave. You (& Mr Naps) are a good people, so you will bring that energy with you.
Lots of dimensions interlink. Quite possibly a family member or 'Guide' popping by to say hello. I thought I had a ghost in my room every night when young. I don't think it necessarily was, but gave me a lifelong interest in such things.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. I lost my mum two weeks ago today. It’s awful.
As for the haunting, I think people need a more open mind. Which is weirder, that we live our strange lives on this rock in the middle of eternal nothingness and then die and that’s it, or that there may be something else after we pass, whatever that may be.

That was a fun chat! Thank you for sharing. Having lived in a very old house myself for 20 years, the structure of old buildings does shift imperceptibly from time to time - for example, we would occasionally notice the run up one flight of stairs, which had a curved top end, was sometimes not quite as we were expecting underfoot. My feeling is that some of these 'ghost events' may be explained by this type of movement (we never felt it happen, just noticed changes). The tech ones.....well tech is tech ad does weird stuff often. Glad you aren't too spooked by these events as you have a lovely home!

I would love more videos like this! A lot of it reminds me of my family's experiences. My granddad (on my dad's side) died when I was 7ish and soon after, I would see a figure walk past the kitchen window when there was nobody there. I didn't mention it for quite a long time, but when I finally did, I found out my older brother and sister had both seen the same thing. Meanwhile my parents had both felt their shirt tugged when in the kitchen, but only when alone, and they had both felt it before telling each other about it. My mum has known small items (pairs of scissors etc) to be in other places than where she left them - like she just used them in the kitchen, walks into the lounge and the scissors are on the sofa, not just forgetting where they were. Finally one Christmas my other granddad, my mum's dad, was looking out the dining room window and saw my dad's dad walk past, clearly enough that he recognised him and got up to unlock the door for him, before he remembered that my dad's dad had been dead for about a decade at that point. All of it could be reflections, memory tricks etc, and triggered by missing someone, but I like to imagine my granddad is still visiting the house, especially as he only lived just around the corner from us so if his spirit would be attached to a location, that would be it.

*hugs* There's a reason Britain is sometimes called "The haunted isle". I've had many things happen over the years e.g in one property my wife was in the bath when both taps on the sink turned on full blast, and yes she did shriek. We've had unplugged electronics turn themselves on, and the weirdest was fining white candle wax in the middle of the carpet when we only had unlit red candles in the house.

When you first have a 'ghost event' it blows your mind. I couldn't believe what I experienced and it went on for several minutes. I'm not going into it but it became evident to me that the paranormal is actually a reality. When you realise that for certain it changes your entire world view. At least it did for me.

  • @wonhung

Waking and seeing a figure by the bed we Britons call that "A Night Terror." It's quite common a I've had one, or several. I once woke in the dead of night to see, quite plainly, a figure sitting in a chair next to the bed who looked remarably like Whistlers mother looking at me. I could see her quite clearly from the l;ight from the passage which my wife had turned on as she'd gone to the bathroom. I simply stared back for a few seconds and then blinked a couple of times and she vanished. I've seen her at least 4 times just sitting there looking at me.
My place was built about 40 years ago so it's not old and no one has died here, plus I don't believe in ghosts so I'm totally at a loss to explain her. Another time I heard quite distinctly a cat meow behind me as I was working on the 'puter and there was no cat to be seen. Now over the years we have had pets, including several cats, but the last one died about 4 years ago and this happened about 2 years after she died and every now and then I catch a glimpse of movement of a small black object ofut of the corner of my eye. I still don't believe in ghosts and I've been to Borley.
The mind can play funny tricks and as the Great Bard once wrote " There are more things in Heaven & Earth, Horatio, than are dreant in your philosophy." (Roughly)
On a more personal note - hope you don't mind - but I noticed you like your tea very strong. Don't you find it a little bitter like that?

Woooooooooo! But seriously, there are possible practical answers to the weird goings-on, (1) A change in air temperature in the alcove causes the air inside the bag to reduce in pressure sufficiently for it to collapse (2) The vibration from your vacuum, transmitted through the floor causes the smooth phone to 'bounce' very slightly (3) A partial suction between the bottom of the box and the floor (easily broken by sliding it). (4) A faulty mechanical or electromechanical trip switch in the treadmill. But my favourite explanation is a ghost (a temporal anomaly in the room). However, I have in evidence for the latter :-)

We never really had any trouble, well apart from one of the many times when my mom moved furniture & things started getting moved around/back or disturbed. But after that we were just respectful & said what we were doing & was all good. More things we'd lose would start showing up that went missing but as I said all in all a good experience. Alanna, something very similar to your plastic bag experience has also happened to me!. I got home one night after doing some shopping (it was about a week before Christmas), and I left a plastic bag on the floor beside my bed. I woke up about 6.20 the following morning, and as I lay in bed, I swear to God, the plastic bag that was still on the floor, was rustling, like someone was scrunching it up!. It really freaked me out; I pulled the covers around me, and tried to compose myself. I have no idea to this day, what it was, but it was very strange!. I wondered mice, like you, but nothing!. My mum had passed away not too long previously, and I eventually came to the conclusion (probably because it was the best and most comforting explanation that I could think of) that it was probably her way of letting me know, that she was still around.

Hi Alanna, you mentioned losing your dad at 27, I lost mine at 25, though that was way back in 1978. Your ghost events are quite interesting. I used to work in a city building here in Melbourne, where the stairway door handle would turn and there was no one there. Also, voices of people working could be heard occasionally from an empty room. In another building where I worked, we experienced one event of all the partitions suddenly falling down and files being thrown off shelves. It was either a ghost or an earthquake...not sure!!! I am wondering if that alcove with the shoe box may have had heavier gravity, just in that area?? Incidentally, years ago during the early 1990's, I lost a camera eyepiece while holidaying at Warrnambool (300 miles west of Melbourne). Several years later, here at home in Melbourne, inside a bag that had not been opened since we moved here in 1981, we found the eyepiece. How it moved from Warrnambool to this bag is a complete mystery. The bag had not been moved from the house since moving here in 1981 and it was under a lot of other items. Anyway, take care. Rob in Melbourne Australia.

Stay positive and if you do get the chance to talk to one please ask them what next week’s lottery numbers are. Then invest in a ticket and buy a new home….. ha ha good luck 😊😊

My home is grade II listed as it was built in 1684. My cousins from Langley, BC came to stay and they said they didn't know of any buildings that were older than 50 years old or made of brick! They were fascinated staying in our sandstone cottage! However, this house is not haunted but my old home built in 1900 was terrifying - we saw shadow people everywhere!

Haunted houses do exist. I had some friends who lived in one and they came to terms with the many strange events such as doors opening themselves even when locked. A few years later a workmate was telling me about a house he walks past on the way to work and noticed that whenever someone moved in, they soon left and it was up for rent again. I asked him where it was and it turned out to be that very same house that my friends lived in a few years earlier.

My Mums house was haunted by a little girl ghost, She used to pull the bedsheets off you slowly in your sleep and then jump on your chest, Sometimes she would whisper into your ears when you were alone in the house too, Not going to lie it was terrifying, Thankfully once i moved out i never experienced the ghost child again, The experience still sticks in my mind today even after all these years and i still remember exactly what she looked like (Long brown hair, age maybe 8 or 10 and wore a white top and small white dress)

Hiya Alana, when we lived in a flat in the middle 1980s the flat was built in the Victorian Period, my sister Leanne was talking to someone at the top of the stairs, mam said who are you talking to Leanne said the old lady, we nicknamed her Mabel, Mabel had a winceyett (old fashioned nighty) like Kate Bush wore on the wuthering heights video if you want to have a look, that's why the previous owners sold the flat, even our great dane wouldnt go up the stairs, this is Choppy in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England

It would be interesting to know what was there before the alcove/office as it is such an old building. It's amazing looking back at who previous occupants of a house were, although if it has been a building such as a warehouse/ factory/mill/workhouse even that has been converted I wonder what it's previous use was.
My nana used to say it's not the dead you should be afraid of it's the living you should worry about.

When moving into the flat you must of missed the fine print in the lease agreement stating a previous resident still occupies the upstairs office and is not legally obligated to pay rent...👻

Love the story-time video, Alanna. I'm sure I have a ghost in my house, too. We think it's my niece who died as a baby. My daughter has seen her and tells us her name is Isla (my niece's name). She's a bit naughty and hides things, though. Always gives them back if you ask - they end up in the middle of the room or on a bed later that day usually.

I lost my wife 2 years ago and I have endless stories to tell inside doors glowing but not giving any light out cupboard doors opening and closing inscription on the kitchen window then one morning I saw her ghostly figure sitting on my couch and disappeared through the ceiling I’ve got goosebumps just writing this message.

Very interesting, I’d research the building, go to the library or archives maybe ask the landlord about the building. Maybe someone died in that building or go find out what that alcove originally was.

My house is 170 years old, it’s haunted by smells such as pipe tobacco and lavender at times when they’re couldn’t be any being blown in from outside. I’m happy with that level of activity. I definitely do not want figures at the end of the bed.

Really sorry to hear of your fathers passing.
Great video as always. Got me thinking about our Ghost who we named George.
We used to live in a flat, which was in the old Toll House for Leeds c200 years old.
I noticed some things would just fall over in the middle of the night and doors would open without any draft.
One day I saw a shadow figure move across the hallway and I said to my wife "I think we may have a problem" and she replied, "you've only just noticed"? She felt a presence as soon as we moved in but didn't want to scare me as she loved the flat.
I would wake up in the middle of the night pinned to the bed and unable to move (never happened to me before or since we moved out 15 years ago). My wife woke up one night and saw an old man sat next to me while I was sleeping!
We constantly felt like we were being watched.
We had a Simpsons mug and when you picked it up it would say "mmm donuts". It would go off every morning around 6am but as soon as I entered the room it would stop.
For a period of time things settled down but soon started up again. One morning my wife said to me "do you think it's happening again" and my exact words were "if it is, I'm getting it's ass exercised". The moment those words left my lips the door in the hallway slammed shut. My next words were "it's time to move".
We later found out that the Court Yard outside was the old Chapel of Rest and that we had lived in the Slaves Quarters and the Undertaker (not the wrestler) lived below us.

There is a castle near where I live. Peckforton Castle near Beeston in Cheshire. Its not really old, it was built 200 years ish ago to look old. Our company is an International affair and we had brought people over for a bit of a conference. We were laughing and joking about there being a ghost wandering around the castle. To most of us, it was a huge joke, however there were some colleagues from Indonesia. They took it really seriously. They believed 100% in the possibility of ghosts. They was scared stiff, they were crying and didn’t sleep well at all (and we were there for 5 days). Its funny because I don’t believe in ghosts at all, but seeing how scared they were spooked me a little. Your story spooked me a little too. I guess if any of those events were repeatable then I would be completely freaked out. Anyway, great story and I do like these kind of chatty vids. Nice one Alanna xxxx

Ha ha fun video Alanna. Spooky alcoves and spectral moments you don't get that on other You Tube channels along with some great re creations of the events. I particularly like the I-phone incident filmed in Supermarination worthy of Thunderbirds and not being able to see the strings (That's an OBLC thing). I wouldn't let these events bother you but if you happen to see a van parked outside and a group of people who keep running from it into your house, start going dropping stuff and saying things like "can you hear me" before running out screaming only then I'd start worrying. Also great Cameo appearance by The Butler 😀

I’ve a similar thing happen in our house in the night after we’d been talking in the garden about how we were going to make changes to the garden to make it more child friendly. The chap who lived in our house before us had to go into a home and had died and he had been very proud of his garden! So … 🤷‍♂️

There's always one who has to be a party pooper and I don't mind being that one!
#1 Something in the bag fell off whatever it was sitting on.
#2 Phone fell off the side of the chair and bounced to the front of it,
3# Bottom corner edge of the shoebox got wedged between floorboard and skirting board,
    #4 Boring glitch
#5 Old power connections cause uneven power supply and power surges.

Events are like those one would associate with a poltergeist or bogart. Mischievous spirits not really harmful. Sometimes they can get so annoying they'll force people to move but mostly you just need to live with it/them.

How sweet, A Ghost Story... Lovely. I can't wait to listen to this. Whenever I hear about ghosts, I am reminded of the Mud Angel from Father Ted. To this day there is no explanation for that mysterious, paranormal event. Scientists are completely confounded by that one. I love Anecdotal Ghosts Stories. Cheers Alanna. This is a lovely little adventure. Sadly, my home is only 300 years old, so it is a bit young to have any ghosts. We only get werewolves round these parts, usually at closing time.

Just got round to watching this today. We live in a converted Victorian House In Dover. We have the two upper floors (Three bedrooms) This is the second time we have lived here with about 12 years apart. The first time we were here, every night i would read in bed and as I put my book/magazine down and turned off the light, within seconds there would be the sound of a magazine being dropped on the floor in bedroom 2. I checked many many times but never saw anything. Speaking to the old chap in the downstairs flat one day i mentioned this and he said" oh don't worry that's only Anton, he is harmless won't worry you at all. Evidently Anton lived in our section and he was seriously ill and in so much pain he topped himself there. So we just used to say Night Anton. Since we have been back here its just weird things like the heating will come on. It never worried us as we felt no fear from it. I do not care what people say they are out there.

The late Michael Bentine, a brilliant comedian & founder member of the Goon Show, also had a serious side. He firmly believed in the premise that buildings act as recorders of lives that have lived within its walls & in certain situations, are able to play them back! BTW, I love the stories angle!

Having lived in a house witch is haunted by ghosts and another that had a poltergeist, I'd say it sounds more like a poltergeist that you have.
It maybe worth looking into whether any young children have died in the house, found out there name and talk to them. I know it sounds silly, but it can help to calm them down, if that start to get a bit much. My mother used to talk to the one we had, he never did any thing to hurts us, just on the odd occasion hide keys.
As my mum used to say, "it's not the dead that hurt you, it's the living".

Thing is... it wasn't that long ago that people were as likely to die in their homes as they were in hospitals, so most older houses have a 'history', but most houses aren't haunted (I know for a fact that somebody died in my house, and the one next door, and the house next to that... none of these houses are haunted). The way I see it, hauntings are less about the buildings and more about the people living in them... Grief is a long process, it's different for all of us, and it changes how we see and experience the world. It can certainly haunt us. It's perfectly normal to have experiences where you wonder if it was your loved one reaching out to you; when my dad died I had these very specific, vivid dreams that I think I would have seen as more than dreams when I was a bit younger. Sometimes having a sense that somebody is still here in some way can be a comfort, or it can just be that we're not yet ready to accept that they're gone. We are all different, and we get haunted in different ways.

I had a ghost sit on the end of my bed at night, only happened one time but when I roll over and look at the corner it slowly pops back up when the weight is released. I went back to sleep didn’t feel negative. Also heard a few stanzas of a ghost whistle in an old house again only happened one time.
