Renovation of my 1979 MZ TS250/1 motorcycle. Bought as several boxes of bits. Started renovation 2016 and finished 2020 Classic 70's East German Two Stroke.

What an amazing build and great music i see a beauty, ive just picked up a black and chrome ts250 supa 5 like yours i may be picking your brains in the future like is the 12v conversation needed im not going be riding at night time .
Nice one. I've an etz250 since 1986, still drive it after 320.000 km and bulletproof. Best bike ever made in history Recently bought a 1978 TS/1. lovely bike and 12 v electronic ignotion. Nice bike yours only I don't like the side cases, I prefer a vintage tankbag on those bikes.
I bought one & had to get the motor stripped because it had stood for ten years unused and the crankseals had dried out. The mechanic assessed the friction surfaces with a view to replacing bits that needed doing while the engine was apart and found everything to be nigh-on perfect. That was with 48,000 miles up. F reg ETZ 243cc. I geared it down to 12mph/1,000 rpm in top for more zip without affecting economy. I've got a 1978 TS 150 too. Love em both.

I had two ETZs and two TS 250/1s - the front brake on the TS was its Achilles heel, also the 6v electrics were not too reliable - the ETZ disc brake was superb and it had a 12v electrical system - in theory it should have been a no brainer, but the style of the TS was so distinctive , whereas the ETZ's tank looked somewhat awkward and the wheelbase was much longer, also 55mpg on the ETZ was poor in comparison with the TS's 80+mpg. My ideal bike was a TS with 12v electrics, electronic ignition and twin leading shoe/disc front brake. The toolbox position in the TS was poor design - it made pillion riding agonising for anything over an hour - or so I am told. Your TS is just perfect! Starting was OK once the technique had been learned - fuel on, half choke, no ignition - two kicks. Ignition on, and third kick nearly always started them. The sound was great in comparison to screaming Japanese twins - a nice slow, deep, mellow one.
What front sprocket are you running? My etz had a 19 and felt overgeared (70mph@5250 rpm) , now it's very zippy with a 17 (70@6000rpm) prob a bit TOO zippy. 18 is best imo.
I've gottan ETZ 250 with three box luggage and a full vape system. I've spemt a bomb making it as good as possible with the one addition from the TS than was actually better than on the ETZ version. I bet you don't know what Im talking about.... ..... In fact the clocks with big numbers and no marked-off increments were the best clocks ever fitted to ANY bike EVER
Hi - I managed to source a CB350 complete front wheel, brake and plate from a fellow MZer for around £35 (worth joining the MZ Riders club for this alone). To fit the honda wheel/TLS brake, you have to swap the fork legs left to right (as the Honda torque arm and brake assy are on opposite sides to the MZ - dead easy and you can use the MZ torque arm as a straight swap on the RH side). The MZ wheel spindle is the same width and length but you will need to fit new spacers of the correct ID/width either side (plenty available on EBay etc). The difference in performance is night and day.....and the drum keeps the "Traditional" look that a disc conversion doesn't. Good luck with the resto!
@@vqey2 Hi - Yes - cost £20 a year and includes bi-monthly mag (one of the best on the classic scene) with classifieds, events, how to etc. Its a bit old school but full of good info/stuff.

😂😂👍 On the contrary, they are design masterpieces. Built as a utilitarian machine, they are well engineered (high precision and very little plastic), easy to maintain with basic tools, very reliable and surprisingly nice to ride. Aesthetically they can be a bit challenging but form follows function with MZs (ie 4.5 gallon tank gives 250 mile range) - has everything it needs and nothing it doesn’t. I didn’t like them at the time (rode Japanese bikes) but they have grown on me as I came to better understand them. Now just as interesting and much more niche than say an RD250 of similar age.
Just watched "the rocket from the east" and landed here,, great build,,
Great video, Great music and a Great bike - I love the MZ.
Another MZ legend lives on.
Love your taste in music; and bikes!
Thanks.
Planning a circuit of the NC500 round Scotland next spring. Should be a good test of that East German engineering!
Lovely restoration and a lovely looking bike. Thank you for sharing...

I’ve spent a fantastic summer exploring the back roads of Leicestershire and Rutland on it. Never expected to have so much fun with 21

Ive got a spare ETZ front end with disc brake and caliper etc but decided to fit the TLS as it’s more in keeping with the TS looks.

Yes but very quirky=collectible.
