My father was chief of police in KY.
He put me through the police motorcycle training not just once
BUT FOR YEARS as a teenager through being an adult.
The one thing he pounded mentally in my head was.
" Any fool can get on a bike and ride fast,
a REAL motorcyclist can ride his bike SLOW AF "

Profoundly wise words for sure. There’s a significant reason why slow speed maneuvers are emphasized in the riders course. Safe operating and staying alive are actually good for your health.

I have been riding since 13 years old. At around 26 I took a rider course and they taught me two things I will always remember. 1. If you are in a curve and have to stop, stand the bike up before hard breaking. 2. How to turn around on a one lane county road with slow speed maneuvering. Never to old to learn.

In the 1980's I was the winner in many "slow races"! I rode an Harley FX made to look like a 1940's bike. Hard tail, pogo stick seat, foot clutch with hand shift on the tank!
    Try that sometime.

That’s exercise #6 here in Canada.. #1 controlled braking. #2 right angled or 90degree turns. #3 cold start. #4 moving off and stopping. #5 straight line shifting. #6 slow speed maneuvers. But this is absolute beginner course. No riding experience. That’s how we are trained to to teach.. interesting to know how others teach.. 👍👍

It started because I wanted too watch the airshow from the top of a mountain only way up was a gnarly rock climb took too much out of you too get up with a little two stroke! 95 cr250 worked well so did an 03 crf230 on the slower side of things! From then on I always enjoyed going as fast as possible and as slow as possible up every steep hill on my bike… not in that order lol I’ve seen some shit!

i get that exercise every time i pull into my shed. the door is 42 inches the walkway is 12 inches off a sidewalk that is a 90° turn on my bike that is 37 inches wide and mostly i ride straight in. once i hit the steps with my knee because i was going way to fast. haha. ... i wasn't even drunk.

Smooth . Higher revs is the key . Piston going faster will have better centrifugal force pulling the bike to the floor makes you feel more grounded and less wobbly sounds crazy but it's true

Eventually, you can get comfortable enough to not need to rev the throttle that high providing your clutch is adjusted really well. There’s times I stall the bike occasionally, but most times I spend much of my focus on 80% friction zone location (mentally constantly adjusting) and 20% throttle. Get that good feel and you’ll feel it. I don’t have a 1,000+ cc bike so my torque is obviously going to be flimsy and weak, but what little I have I can still adapt to. Thankfully I have a mechanical throttle. The new electric fly by wire throttles on the newer Harley’s will take me some getting used to.
