Having grown up in the cult, I have so many reasons to hate this video. But I can't help getting stupidly nostalgic. I went down a rabbit hole this morning after reading this post. I went to Wikipedia to read up on Family International and was so intrigued about its history. My dad bought me many videos back from Hong Kong when i was a boy and the SOS video was one of them. He thought it was a cartoon movie. This became my favourite video and fell in love with all the songs and i too know all the words back to front. They made some really great music. Moments is great great song ( and even the intro song 'theres gonna be a change in this world' is awesome). Having said that, back then i had no idea what the songs were about, i.e mother let me live. Thats 's heavy stuff to be singing and putting on repeat as a 7 year old. I love it non-the-less. I almost feel like i wanted to be a part of it- at least the friendship part of it. Young people wanting to make a positive and happy change in the world. the whole 'did charlie make a monkey out of you' thingy, again as a kid i had no idea this was a song about evolution, or lack thereof. However, the way you describe your happiness when you think back on your memories of this time is really great. Just like all religions, there are many great things and also some not so great. Again, i loved the SOS video tape, and over my years, never knew anyone else, zero, that knew these songs, so glad to have find this out.

I was subjected to this video over and over on a daily basis when I was between the ages 4-7 and when my mom divorced and we moved away I never saw it again but still 20 years later the songs were stuck in my head and I had no idea what from. After going to reddit and asking them I finally had it resolved. Man this is crazy! I had no idea my uncle was trying to induct me into a pedophile cult (yes they were fine with children and adults having intimate relationships). I now know my cousin (now deceased) had been raped and molested because of his father's views in this cult! Everything makes sense now.

It sounds innocent and even Christian on the surface, until you understand that their definition of "love" is physical. I don't actually know what that means. Something to do with biblical numerology. Also Revelation mentions either having the Seal of God on the forehead or the Mark of the Beast on the right hand or forehead. I haven't heard anyone stating that the Seal of God is literal or visible so why would the Mark be? My best guess is that the forehead represents thoughts and beliefs and the right hand represents actions.
The first song has a really upbeat innocence to it; it actually invokes a lot of (somewhat depressive) nostalgia for me. Despite me not being alive in the late 80's when this tape probably came out, the song somehow takes me back to my earlier years. Back when things were simpler, and there was less to worry about. I went down a rabbit hole this morning after reading this post. I went to Wikipedia to read up on Family International and was so intrigued about its history. My dad bought me many videos back from Hong Kong when i was a boy and the SOS video was one of them. He thought it was a cartoon movie. This became my favourite video and fell in love with all the songs and i too know all the words back to front. They made some really great music. Moments is great great song ( and even the intro song 'theres gonna be a change in this world' is awesome). Having said that, back then i had no idea what the songs were about, i.e mother let me live. Thats 's heavy stuff to be singing and putting on repeat as a 7 year old. I love it non-the-less.
I almost feel like i wanted to be a part of it- at least the friendship part of it. Young people wanting to make a positive and happy change in the world. the whole 'did charlie make a monkey out of you' thingy, again as a kid i had no idea this was a song about evolution, or lack thereof.
However, the way you describe your happiness when you think back on your memories of this time is really great. Just like all religions, there are many great things and also some not so great.
Again, i loved the SOS video tape, and over my years, never knew anyone else, zero, that knew these songs, so glad to have find this out.

I was subjected to this video over and over on a daily basis when I was between the ages 4-7 and when my mom divorced and we moved away I never saw it again but still 20 years later the songs were stuck in my head and I had no idea what from. Knowing a bit about the Family International/Children of God cult thanks to my own morbid curiosity, the whole thing has pretty obvious messaging throughout the whole thing that spreading "love" and "escaping the material world" are the main path to happiness. It sounds innocent and even Christian on the surface, until you understand that their definition of "love" is physical.

Read a lot of letters from "Dad." The current heads of the group are referred to as "Queen Maria and King Peter."
We had lots of parties where we dressed up according to different themes and ate the food we had gone begging for. We would ask for 'donations' of food from markets and stores and if we were asked who it was for, we said for a Christian group.

I don't actually know what that means. Something to do with biblical numerology. Also Revelation mentions either having the Seal of God on the forehead or the Mark of the Beast on the right hand or forehead. I haven't heard anyone stating that the Seal of God is literal or visible so why would the Mark be? My best guess is that the forehead represents thoughts and beliefs and the right hand represents actions.

The first song has a really upbeat innocence to it; it actually invokes a lot of (somewhat depressive) nostalgia for me. Despite me not being alive in the late 80's when this tape probably came out, the song somehow takes me back to my earlier years. Back when things were simpler, and there was less to worry about. Too bad it's a song by a batshit insane cult, but fuck, they knew how to tug at my heart strings.
