I was at Tony's plaque unveiling last night in Kinnitty Co. Offaly. There was a meet and greet in the local hall where Tony played his first ever gig and i must say what a great Guy! he stayed for pictures and signed things for everyone that was there no bother to him. Tony you are the Man and my favourite Oasis lineup.
If a record company had heard this at the time, they would say' Liam is the weak link' .It's a fantastic document of a band evolving .The drumming is superb ,very dynamic .Tony McCarroll is so underated .They are very tight as a band, dark ,spacey & edgy .
Love the drums on Take Me, specifically the bit right before the vocals. I've always really loved Take Me as a song in general too, really wish they put it on an album or single as a b-side at least
I'd be impressed if I went to a local gig and heard songs of this quality. Amazing that Noel was able to create songs of even higher quality. still don't really understand why Tony was fired, his ability is no worse than the other members, not amazing not awful. Pretty spot on for what Oasis ended up doing.
Would have fit in perfectly with definitely maybe. Probably my favorite of the early oasis stuff, I think it would have been a hit if they recorded it once Liam found his style.
16:14 people can hate on Noel all they like, his playing and riffs moved me like no other. Fucking legend even then. I'd definitely put down my pint if I heard that on stage.
Noel I didn’t know to well as he didn’t drink in the milestone (Burnage) in the early days, but one thing is for sure, The Rain as it started back in the day (1991) would never have been as big without him. Legend 🇮🇪🎸
Is that Bonehead playing in I will show you?! The clean guitar sounds amazing, it sounds like a Fender Stratocaster and Bonehead used to play one of these around 1992
What was going through Noel's head to expel Tony? I think his # 1 mistake in the band was kicking him out. In this video it is more than clear that he was a great drummer. He didn't use much technique but his raw/punk rock n roll sound was a perfect fit for the band.
Certainly! Noel always has an excuse that Tony just wouldn’t be able to do the songs on the Morning Glory album but in reality I think it just came down to not liking him as a person. He knew he was someone that he could “bully” due to his more quiet nature which is such a shame. Hearing these early demos and early gigs he was certainly able. A bit more finesse to his playing and he would be able to have done plenty songs after Definitely Maybe i’m sure of it.
Noel even said as recently as yesterday that he didn’t hear his songs played properly until Zac joined the band. He wasn’t happy with Alan either. Alan White was a horrible, lumpen drummer.
Not a chance. Listen to the isolated drum track for Wonderwall and try and convince yourself Tony could have played anything better fit. Tony was 100% the right drummer for that debut album, cause they were all straight RnR songs and thats what Tony could handle. Morning Glory had some mega RnR songs too, but Cast No Shadow, Wonderwall, DLBIA, Supernova needed someone who had better chops. Ultimately, Noel made the right decision to sack Tony and pick up Whitey, not to pad his ego, but for the benefit of the music.
@Alaska Music Yeah, but times move on, as did the band. As Noel’s said, Tony could play Definitely Maybe songs, but he couldn’t for Morning Glory. Can you imagine Tony playing Champagne Supernova with Weller’s solo? I don’t think so. He was a basic drummer and Owen told him to take drum lessons to improve for the new album, but Tony refused. And Owen Morris also said Alan White’s drumming was ‘stodgy and awful’. Their sound suits different drummers in different periods.
@Alaska Music If you actually believe that Oasis lost its intensity with the removal of Tony, you need to give your head a shake. Noel had half of Morning Glory written already by the time he got rid of Tony. Allen was/is miles ahead of Tony, and that was proven on the second album. All you stated were opinion based bias viewpoints, and trying to pass them as fact
This was mentioned in a book, may have been Tony’s? But yeah this was for a TV show that was never broadcast hence why the quality is so good. I will find which book it was and get back to you!
@@Shakermaker94 Yeah mate I got it wrong. I just had a look through Tony’s book. Apparently this gig was supporting Sweet Jesus. Maybe they has a professional recording setup? The gig I wrongly claimed it was was when Oasis supported Alvin Stardust for 12 people from Granada Television hahaha
