I'm not a truck guy, but would take the Tacoma all day because it's Japanese and will last forever.
Toyota all-day
You guys said 2 weeks after the GME stuff. That was like end Jan/early Feb. I get I'm not on Patreon but this is def not 2 weeks later
Taco. I don't agree with V6 american trucks.
Can you please start talking about the speakers again because they are a very important part of daily driving!
Yessss
Get the upgraded Bose system. It's good. Not great, but it's good.
A really important part of daily driving. Something that gets swept under the rug. A good sound system is essential for me in a car.
@@Brian-jv8iy Eh not really much to say when almost has everything has LEDs now.
At this point we need worry more about eye protection from the all the LEDs headlights.
GM still used bose for Premium audio.
It's gonna be decent, but not mind blowing.
Jakub: This truck has 4 wheels just like my Raptor.
Timestamp it
@@TheStraightPipes 😂😂😂
Yuri: "And windows; just like my Prowler."

here comes Jakub's Raptor comparisons...XD

2 weeks later, try 2 months later guys 😂
All of your criticisms were on point. These were the exact reasons why I skipped this truck. It's about 10 years behind in tech and everyday usability
What did you end up with?
Raptor...hahhaha
@@youngcinfamous lol, congrats man!!
Also chevys quality control is not good these days. Silverado ranked one of the lowest for reliability and those issues are never model specific.
I like the exterior looks and off-road capability, but if I'm going to pay 50k I think I'd rather get the Ranger Tremor as it seems to not be as dated.
I actually prefer the fact it has less electronic bells and whistles such as the push to start . The only thing Im not sold on this vehicle is the 8 speed transmission . I hope gm remedied the issues they were having on previous iterations
Jakub good job explaining wheel/tire/rim terminology! I think that’s the first time I’ve heard someone correctly explain it
For 52K, this truck should have keyless entry and push button start, heated/cooled seats and a heated steering wheel. Simple off the shelf parts that would make very little difference in price.
For real GM must be banking on this and the Canyon
has heated steering wheel and seats so 2/3 there ;)
I never know if y'all are talking bout Canadian dollar or US. 52k definitely seems high in either market. But I do like that exterior quite a bit.
I agree on the Keyless Entry and Push start, but it dosen't cost anymore than a Taco TRD Pro. Which also just has heated seats and steering wheel.
I am shocked that this doesn't have keyless entry and push button start, especially at a non-base level trim. Definitely made me pause.
The worst part about the key to me is that it's the GM weak point that allowed everyone's Silverado/Suburban/Tahoe to be stolen.
To me the biggest perk of this remote start is to warm the vehicle up with out going outside in the winter. Having to turn the key once inside the warm vehicle is less of an inconvenience than going outside just to start my truck.
I did some research on this because I was looking at buying one and was wondering the same thing. Turns out the key has an NFC chip which is the reason why the key ring hole is so small. GM is looking at ways to keep their trucks from being stolen so they added a transponder (two-factor) key. Even with a matching key, the truck won't start without the NFC chip. And the key is a groove key making it harder to pick (so I'm told). It is harder to get used to a key again after having a key fob, but it's a minor inconvenience to keep the truck a little more secure.
So glad i found this channel. Awesome content!
The ZR2's on road manners are one of the first positives that stood out to me. I wouldn't call it stiff, I'd say confident. Before putting oversized tires on mine, I felt it was awesome on on ramps for a truck.
They are bias lol. They’re obviously Tacoma fan boys.
Shocks do get stiff in the winter, they really don’t like the cold but no oil filled performance shock really does.
@@kamakazioverland4584 Florida here, what’s this “winter” you speak of?
@@mrlt1151 a shitty time of year where I consider dumping my life savings on lottery tickets in hopes I can live somewhere warm and never work again. Lol
@@kamakazioverland4584 we have jobs in Florida, just no winter.
I ended up getting a 2017 Colorado ZR2 Duramax in red (just like the one in your previous video, my favorite video of yours, BTW) and I'm loving it. Sometimes I wish I had the V6, but it's a truck, I don't need it to be fast.
Thanks for your awesome videos guys.
A fan from Southern California.
I am from Detroit, as a young child I watched Sesame Street and Mr Dress-up on CBC. I say Zed.
Detroit is basically Canada. Doesnt count.

Had one for 2 years and loved it. Looked dynamite and held its value like crazy. Cheap to run, awesome in the snow but you will be upgrading for more "truck". Rear seat is too cramped, no flat floor back there for the dog. Interior tech is good but materials wont blow you away. Seats are comfy but too soft - dont hold up tremendously well long term. Desperately needs more power! Give the little offroad racer the 5.4 or a turbo! At 110 there's little left for a pass and dont plan on towing anything bigger than a single axle, especially with its 70L tank. Was my biggest reason to upgrade.
This truck definitely needs a mid-cycle refresh
Funny part is... it just did hahah. They totally dropped the ball
Correction: it needs a re-refresh.
I don't understand why the GM product with the ZR1 label is the fastest most track insane Corvette ever built but the ZR2 is a pitiful NA V6 truck? (it looks good from the outside) but that interior is weak & so is the engine HP/Trq. Should call it Z72
@@scottiecopasetic8315 because Zr2 has been used in offroad midsize chevy pickups since the 90's
@@Scypher0th the gmc versions look ok but the silverados look overweight and bloated. Not to mention they come with a factory lowering kit 😂😂
I would honestly rather have a normal key. Our tundra and miata have it and it’s so much nicer in my opinion, not sure why it just feels better
The "RPM x1000" text on the tactometer is the exact same on my dad's old like 2005 chevy truck. Seeing that literally took me back to my childhood
Yuri that was a hell of an elbow drop🤣
I was seriously considering the ZR2, the Tacoma, and ended up going with a 2019 Nissan Titan Pro4X, and couldn’t be happier. I literally never think about anything my truck can’t do, should do, etc. I’ve had it over a year now, and it checks all the boxes for me. Great truck.
I’d toss on the KC round lights on the rack, then I’d feel like I’m in the 80s
I used to have the Marty McFly truck from Back to the Future. It looked cool but putting 35in tires on a 4cyl Toyota truck (blew my engine to hell). I looked cool driving 25mph through my local town & that's all that matters.
@@scottiecopasetic8315 yes it was a Toyota Xtra Cab SR5
That and some deep dish 3 spoke rims from the late 80's early 90's
Currently searching for a mid-sized truck. Looking at Tacoma vs Gladiator but I might have to test drive the Colorado after seeing this video. Good work as always guys. P.S. Go Bills.
Those headlights and that interior is D A T E D
Still fresher than that stale taco
@@Tungsten23 Taco sells tho 👀

@@Tungsten23the drum brakes part of a taco is the saddest part.. everything looks good until you see those tiny drums in the rear. Not to mention ugly looking
I love the physical key.....you can feel the engine start through the key.....
I like the key too...I don’t need push button start
Love those "off road" lights which will help you see the tops of the trees you're driving by :P
Finally you guys are reviewing my dream truck.
Your original ZR2 review convinced me to trade my S3 for one and I do not regret it for a second.
Lol I'm thinking to do that with my S4 he he, just not sure why not taco. Would you elaborate on your choice? Thanks 😊
@@dmitryc760 at the time, the taco didn't offer android auto which was a major issue for me. I also preferred the larger engine and cabin space in the Colorado.
That being said, the 23 ZR2 looks to be no compromises better than the current iteration of anything in the mid size class.
Jakub: “Finally, my time has come.”
I am a Ford guy all day long. Until Ford brings a Ranger Raptor to North America. The ZR2 is the best off road mid-size truck for now.
Great video guys.
Remote start that requires a key to be put in is great to prevent your car from being stolen....
Got a 2021 ZR2 Bison this past weekend. I am in love.
Getting the back of your jeans dirty from the rock sliders is a right of passage for owning a ZR2. (Especially if you lift it a bit.) Great rig out of the box. I’ve taken my ‘21 all over Utah’s off road trails. The truck rips and is virtually unstoppable. Not as techie as the TRD pro but more capable overall.
Yoooo bills mafia that tailgate!! Love your videos!! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
The music at the begining reminds me of can't stop by the red hot chili peppers.
Love the speed academy sweater Jakub
That truck looks badass not gonna lie, what do you think?
Also I love your videos @thestraightpipes!
2:40 I have remote start on my 4runner and the truck turns off when I open the door. Have to restart it once inside, tech at the dealership said every remote start toyota with push button ignition does this. It was less annoying just getting in and turning the key with my last remote start car.
You know a key start is way safer than push button start as far as theft goes. I have a Tundra with push button start and had to buy Faraday 👝 pouches. Push button start sure is convenient but also.means theft is at an elevated risk.
My first video I have watched from y'all, was the Colorado ZR2, deja vu vibes untill you showed the clip from your first one 😂
Seeing the "sport bar" on these Colorados REALLY makes me miss the Avalanche. That, to me was always a really sexy and versatile truck and I'm sad that it got discontinued.
putting car key in to start vehicle = major deal breaker :D that's awesome
Torque, Mileage, Cost. That's why Diesel.
Unless you're in the US/Canada I guess
What is weird to me is Mercedes/Bmw/Audi offers their top of the line cars (S class/A8/7Series) in Europe with diesel choice. If you have 70-80k $ to afford for the car why would you drive a diesel...
modern diesels gunk up and turn to shit around 100k miles. So no thanks on diesel, sadly. They've been ruined by the EPA.
@@ristekostadinov2820 Here in the Philippines, luxury SUVs sell in Diesel. I guess even the rich don't want to spend that much on fuel (could be that their drivers don't drive responsibly 😅😂)
@@HAHA.GoodMeme Here in the Philippines, perhaps the rest of the world(?), Diesels are really reliable. There is a new Hilux that has traveled 500,000 km (300,000 mi approx) and running well! Diesels last longer here than gasoline counterparts.
Superior range. Superior milage under load. Longer engine life...
I just bought the 2021 Canyon Denali last month, same powertrain. I'm surprised you didn't mention the transmission when shifting down to second and first, the truck will hiccup and shutter a bit. Heaven forbid it's downshifting to come to a stop and you hit the gas again, then it really doesn't know up from down. Maybe it's just a legitimate problem with my truck, it only has 2000km on it so I'm hoping it will figure it out itself. Also I noticed even with traction fully "off", it will reengage itself after 60km/h. Definitely will be looking for that fuse come next winter.
Launch expressions are hilarious.
Kudos to GM for getting a solid 300+ horses out of a utility sixxer.
Toyota could certainly use that in the Taco. On the flip-side, the Colorado could use an MT.
I think all cars and trucks that have electric differentials / any form of all-wheel-drive attached to it do not let you turn tractioncontrol off entirely. But maybe they actually do and the AWD / Diff just makes it feel like something is interfering / regulating?
Lets get it straight... a simple key will definitely not be a deal breaker for me
ngl u guys have the best road shots
🙌
If it had push button start I would totally get this.
The obvious competitor to this truck is the Ford Ranger Tremor. Would love to hear your thoughts on that one guys.
love thus review boys. from sudbury ontario 🍻🍻
Love the comment Kyle. Say hi to my buddy Cory from Sudbury - Jakub
I have the extra cab and the 6'2" bed. I did that because I need to put my quad in the bed. But after seeing this I am glad that I did.
Jakub, are you still in on GME or do you have paper hands?
💎🙌
You can totally turn TC off, there's a procedure in the manual. However, if you do that you need to recalibrate the system on dry flat pavement later, which is a pain in the ass.
If you want to 100% have traction control off for a ZR2 press the offroad button, press and HOLD the traction control button for about five seconds.
does the stabilitrak shows on cluster anymore by holding TC button more than 10sec or so? did not did not notice on this video thanks
English as my 2nd language, the wheel is everything! I still remember being confused when people said wheel meaning only the wheel rim 😅 You need to review the 2023 version of this, it looks awesome!
I drive my ZR2 to work in dress pants all the time. Definitely have to be mindful of the rock sliders unless you want a nice dirt mark on the back of your pants.
As a '21 Colorado owner...the key thing is so annoying 😒 Love the truck though!
Always a great video. Thanks Guys!
One detail that I notice in all Chevy, GMC, Cadillac and Buick cars is the missing middle headrest in the backseat. This is a safety issue as the person in the middle could have a serious injury.
When does your snow finally melt? It’s almost 100 degrees here in Az
What if you just kept the key in the ignition, would the truck lock from the fob?
I’m 6 foot 3 inch tall and I fit fine in the back of my moms 2021 zr2 even for a 3 hour road trip it’s comfortable in the back seat
Sounds like a cool mom!
4:12 As a representative of the 5' 11 1/4" community, I am willing to be in future videos as the perfect "middle" height.
As a member of the same community, I concur 😎
Is this Isuzu D-Max twin?
new upload lesss goooo
I'd rather go with the 'Yota. Thanks for the review!
Can’t wait for the m3 competition AWD really need it in Canadian Weather.
@Jonathan Losito yeah I know it’s probably more fun with the rwd but sometimes you do need awd.
@@Brian-jv8iy You’re right it just depends mostly on the tires and the way the driver controls it
another awesome review, this channel is so refreshing :). Now just need to wait for a couple of years so as to afford one of these :P I know the guys said its a reasonable choice BUT I still think a 2 year old one with 8-10k off the MSRP would be a much better deal.
Yes get the first gen lol
Personally love the actual key and key fob separated
Black Bark the type of guy to churn his own butter.
Can you please start adding engine pulls in the intro of the videos because they are very important part of daily driving!
I wonder when (more like if) Ford would release a Ranger Raptor with the 2.7 Eco boost engine.
Can you guys review the 2021 Nissan Armada? It got completely refreshed and it looks super cool!
it looks trash
They have an available keypad like Ford. Also I’m glad they still use a key
Thanks for reviewing. I happened to like the review. The complaints they had won't affect my choice. I actually like to have a key, I'm 5'2" & hubby is 5'8" so that won't be an issue for us to fit in the truck. I don't care about the backseat size, since it will rarely get used. My cell has never worked with wireless charging, so I could care less about that. It's a truck and I don't need a fancy interior. I do expect the suspension to be a little harder on everyday roads. It is a truck.
Perfect. Use tsp.truecar.com for discounted local offers!
Hope you both are staying safe
Why no canyon? I have been waiting for like a side by side comparison with the at4 I want the diesel but can y’all pls do this?
8:15 Jakubs face before the cut 😂
Fresh out the auction house 🥶
You guys thinking of grabbing the new BRZ and GR86 for a comparison vid or maybe even just buying them for yourselves?
Yuri looks like Mr. Robot 😂
It's a compliment btw
I will always prefer the physical key over a wireless key. Its clearly a preference over needing to be an actual industry standard.
Still have to push start button after remote start even in my brand new bmw! It’s a safety feature and also prevents ppl from stealing your running car
Jakob bruh a physical turn key is a beautiful thing
Interesting that GM designers went for the “Zombie with No Lower Jaw” look
Well being an offroad package it makes sense. Helps with approach/departure angles, basically, you can go up a steeper hill with your bumper cut off. Gotta make some sacrifices ya know?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good looking truck
I tried the Tacoma, the Colorado, and the Ranger (at 6' 1"), and the Colorado was far and away the most comfortable to me in the backseat. Tacoma was the worst. In that, I had no knee or headroom. The Colorado has limited knee room, but more than the Tacoma, and far more headroom.
I drove a car without keyless entry and keyless go and it honestly felt like the stone ages 😩
First world problems
I'm literally 5'11 1/4". Found my next truck!
Can't wait for this truck with the 2.7 turbo~
The fact that it doesn't have push to start or keyless entry is pretty ridiculous in 2021, my 3 year old civic has both
I have a question for everyone. will the zr2 tires fit my 2018 colorado lt?
Wish they would update the headlights the interior dash and esp gauges, and do the 10spd tranny ..
That rear shock has a cup protector but could that be a problem if a rock lands in there?
Zr2 looks best out of all trucks tho👍
Tacoma SR5 versus Colorado ZR1 ? Comfort on the road?
Like others have stated, please start reviewing the sound quality/bass of the speakers. Super important!!!
Speakers are the easiest upgrade to do yourself, though.
Wait, did you guys stop doing the visor test?
The facial hair looks nice, good for you friends.
I don't think I've seen a review yet of the 2021 Colorado/Canyon that DOESN'T have people bitching about the key and how dated the interior looks and how the headlights are the wrong colour.. I just bought the Canyon AT4 and love it. Part of the reason is that is does have a key- no complaints about the interior at all, although my last vehicle was 14 years old, and I don't really give a shit about the headlights. Most of them flicker which makes me crazy when they're in my mirrors, especially at night in the rain. No need for the ZED r2, but I'm extremely happy with my truck.
Your fob unlock and ignition key problem is a non problem, most cars currently on the road work this way, it's fine.
Push button ignitions are gimmicky and annoying to me.
Yeah prefer old school stuff
Has anyone swapped out a 2020 colorado Lt front bumper and grill for this one in the video ?
I’m trying to buy this setup but haven’t found a website where I can buy it … let me know thank you
Another "really? In 2022?" moment for me was the lack of Homelink. The Subaru I traded in was 5 years old and had Homelink.
