Holy crap THANK YOU!!! I spent a ridiculous amount of time last night trying to find basically an idiots guide to sensor select and what it does and how to use it without being overwhelmed by 6,000,000 other systems or settings.
I think the easiest way to explain SOI/TDC priority is to think of the displays in the aircraft like windows on a Windows desktop. Only one window is active at any time, and that's the window that your keyboard and mouse inputs (page up/down, mouse wheel, forward/back buttons) will affect. In the aircraft, your SOI is the "window" that your HOTAS inputs will affect.
Hornets user interface seemed very weird for me also, after simple fc3 cockpits (more or less), first thing usually ppl seems to notices is when trying to keybind hotas, without knowledge what does what (as it was for me). But when its learned, it seems actually be very straight, "weaponsystemslike" user interface, which is actually pretty good, atleast for its own time it was. And still today, it still is pretty straight forward as a "tool", and it WORKS. Now Superhornet is about to get totally new touchscreen design (with one big screen if understood right). It might be the last one (Pentagon is about leave hornet about 2035, or thats what they said to Finland atleast..) . I just wonder how badly boeing will brake the consept, that is pretty much "made for its weapons"... (IRL)
This is an extremely important video when you are on the beginning stages of the learn curve so thank you so much for putting it together. Does anyone know what Sensor Control Switch-Depress does?
Tks Grim. I followed Matt Wagner setup for fa18. I'm able to move the SOI from one screen to another one but I have a problem. When I use the mini stick in front of my Thrust (a Thrustmaster) I can use it for designate targets for missiles in A/A manouvers but it doesn't move when I try to use it for A/G rockets or guided bonbs. So I can't designate a target for Walleye or Maverick or else. Don't understand. I have diamond inside my MFCD but if I move the minyjoy nothing happen. Any idea? Or at last a different combination of way to use it?
I have everything set up the way You mentioned, ( even did the special thing where I unchecked realistic tdc ) and the only thing I cant figure out is what commands will allow Me to move the target to where I want ??? Thanks for an answer.
I finally found the throttle designator did the up down left right for the target and at one point actually got to fire a mav, it missed but I did not have it locked on. Having a hard time but will just keep going at it.
Does GR have video for Sensorswitch functions, in different modes / displays / sensors...? Like in radar have littlebit of mystery how those commands behave (like switching radar modes with it, i can do it, but seems to be in hurry situation, more or less game of luck for me..) Ok have seen listings from em, which arent so long. But a video with "tricks you can do with sensorswitch" could teach more in few minutes. Great thanks for all your DCS videos. With few content makers tutorials (which most were, and I think will be in future also, GR videos) I learned hornet in 2 months to a point, where I can play SP campaigns (wohoo!), from about a year of flying fc3 aircrafts / playing dcs itself. I totally have been hiding from air to air refueling, but with hornet it was kinda "must". Bought Serpents Head 2 campaign, after completing couple free ones, barely. It was good thing that mission 3 gave me "opportunity" to go around air to air refueling, in 30kn crosswind, with small tanker, with wake turbulence forced on. I hammered it two weeks form zero air to air refueling, to "ok now i can do it anytime". After that, rest of campaign was .. well, almost erotic experience :D. And when its done with almost 20 years old saitek x45, i think it is not going to be any harder in the future. Maby time its about for me to buy new hotas, instead of new planes. :P Any great ideas BEFORE steppin in high end hotases? Desktop one could be fine enough, even upgrade to never x-something ("saitek" / logitech) would be like jumping from t-ford to tesla.
Eagle Dynamics should pay you….considering they are disgracefully lazy when it comes to simple tutorials like you just gave. If you weren’t around…what would I do?
Finally someone who explains it in just 2 minutes!

It had me stumped for awhile but manage to figure it out a few days ago, this will help a lot of other newbies !
This was huge. Just jumped into the F18 world coming from my first module- the A-10. This really helped!
Which A10? The FC3 A10 or the proper A10?
@@AdamMi1I went from the FC3 A10A to the F18, so far I only got down was air to air. Air to ground bombing is hard for me atm
Yeah that explains things..I didn't realize the SOI needed to be designated. I was like why isnt my TDC moving? Cool Stuff.

how can you switch from radar screen as the sensor select also does the radar modes?

I'm literally screaming in my apartment because now it makes sense!!!
How do you get access that radar picture on the left DDI?
How did you get that green screen on the left screen?
thanks cap , I was getting rather peeved as to how this works , the brain connections went ahhh! feel such a twat .:)
Is there a switch in the cockpit to change them for this or is it only by using the key commands to switch screens?
Pretty sure it's on the hotas in real life but you can't operate those switches since it uses the buttons behind it

Amazing! Thank you!
So my scs is just changing the reticle on my hud... pls help😩😩
You state press sensor control switch down, but I don't see you click or press anything?
How do I get the sensor on the left to show the camera holy crap

Second!
