      Mav, I might be wrong, but I am like 80% sure that you DO NOT need to snowplow before making something SOI with JHMCS. Unless something has changed recently that I have missed. If it has, then color me informed and thank you! If not, then this can save some valuable time for you. You do, however, need to undesignate your target to get the symbology to appear on the JHMCS. So, HUD/JHMCS SOI, undesg. look where you want, TDC Depress and VOILA! Instant snap to target. Cheers! Love the videos!

    This also works without going into snowplough mode and this step can be skipped. The camera can be looking anywhere but the main condition for this to work is there has to be no active TGT point. all you have to do is tap undesignate and clear any current tgt mark and select HMD as SOI and the radial marker should appear in the HMD. If the radial marker does not appear then double check you selected it as SOI and that there is no active tgt mark. The pod should automatically slew to any tgt mark you create whether it be a with a designated waypoint or via HMD designation. Depends on what the operator chooses. Not that you may want to change tracking modes with the pod after it slews to the mark otherwise it tends to drift off course. Modes are changed by selecting pod as SOI, and long pressing the Sensor select switch to the pod sequentially to change the mode. The symbology in the pod screen should change to indicate the newly selected mode.

      Yup, came here to say this. As long as you aren't currently designating anything, you don't even need to touch the NWS button. Just look and TDC Depress. Only time you have to touch the NWS is to undesignate. Snowplow is not needed at all, at least with the ATFLIR.

    Pro tip for newbies: if the helmet site is not aligned the targeting pod will be way off where your telling it to look so align it on the ground before you take off. While it doesn't matter so much for use with the air-to-ground or air-to-air radar because a radar beam is like a flashlight it doesn't need to be spot on to illuminate something the tiny dot that is the sensor point of interest or "SPI" needs to be super accurate because your tood is going to be looking 100meters off or more without an proper alignment from a cold start when you look back at the screen you won't recognize what you targeted because you won't be looking at what the helmet was.
    Second pro tip you can align it while the air on the long flight to the target but most people find it more convenient endless stressful to it before takeoff.

    Hey 104th Maverick, I have a quick question about bombing in the Hornet. One of my go to missions is the "offensive counter air", the objective is to simply destroy one helicopter at the given waypoint. My question is after dealing with the enemy fighters, I set up my bombs only to find my ccip line is slanted terribly to one side. To straighten it out I have to roll into a turn that is simply not ideal for dropping a dangerous explosive xD. Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I've been told it could have something to do with the INS knob being set to either nav or IFA, both of which don't seem to have an effect. My only theory is that the way I engage in air to air combat screws up my CCIP line when the time comes, other than that I am pretty clueless lol. Thanks for making this simple video, I thought I knew how to do this haha, thanks for the content and for absolutely teaching me how to use the Hornet radar "like a boss" :)

    • @104thMaverick
      @104thMaverick  Год назад +1

      The INS should always be in IFA once the initial alignment has been completed mate, I've never had that issue with the CCIP line before brother, it might be something corrupted in your install. Try running a DCS repair and see if the problem happens again. I've shot down lots of bandits then dropped bombs and never had this issue so its not something inherent to the aircraft.

    • @jacobblumberg6299
      @jacobblumberg6299 Год назад

      @@104thMaverick Interesting, I'll have to run that repair and see if that fixes anything. I have run 2.7 and 2.8 and have still encountered the same problem after fresh installs as well. Thanks for the input!

    • @HalcyonAD
      @HalcyonAD Год назад +1

      There are two ways to fix this. It is caused by INS drift. INS is subject to drift errors if not repeatedly updated. You can do as Maverick says and leave it In Flight Alignment IFA or you can change the nav input from INS to GPS. To change to GPS you have to use the Support page to select HSI. When HSI is pulled up on the top row of buttons all the way to the left you will see a button for POS/INS. Punch that button and it will bring up a row of options across the top row of buttons. Select GPS and once that is done the page will revert back to the previous page but you should note that the far left button on the top row should now say POS/GPS. That will fix your bomb fall line issue as it is now taking updates from the GPS instead of the INS for position fixes.

    Hi, is this something that exist in reality in a cold war era plane? Like a Tomcat or a Hornet?
    I ask this because I do not add features that are not realistic as I don't like hand holding and comfort stuff which remove immersion in my opinion.

      Designating a target with the JHMCS (Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System) is real, so is designating targets with it.

      Yes the real aircraft could do this

      @@104thMaverick Amazing thanks for the replies, I thought this was stuff only Shukoi had like tthe thermal system that seems to be the one responsible to hit 50 miles far away air targets (if I am not wrong)... I did not know there was so comfortable stuff already in the 70ties.
      Then especially with a head tracking or VR this stuff must be set!

      It's not a comfort stuff, it's a real thing.

      No I don’t think so, but the radar will slave the camera to what ever target you have locked so you can VID it.
