I've been searching a lot of F/A-18C tutorials and I've found yours to be the best. Very helpful and great explanations. Keep up the great work. I really appreciate it.
I'm really, really starting to love the Hornet. I've liked it up until now, but I'm a ground-pounder at heart so the A-10C has always been my baby, but it really won't be long until this is my go-to bird. Just needs the targeting pod
Just a note to say "aye!!!". I concur..... I can't imagine how it could be improved, actually. The learning curve looked like a mountain to me in the first few days, but at about 2 weeks along I'm AT LEAST fumbling better :) What I'd like to achieve is a way to make a keybinding scheme in the way I made DCS's A-10c and Benchmark Systems' BMS F-16 nearly equal in terms of HOTAS functions and the key assignments. I think terminology's the biggest challenge; MFD on A-10c equals DDI in Hornet, etc. It's actually essential to my sketchy memory issues that I map the keys and Extreme 3D Pro joystick buttons so switching planes doesn't seem so much like Day 1 :) Gotta remember to not forget :)
I like to say thank you for the last couple of videos, in particular, the ones about precise coordinates, JDAM and JSOW. These help a lot to understand.
It's interesting about the controversy over cluster munitions, in 2006 they were banned, but by 2008 the USA declared it to be legal use for combat and it got ratified. Another great tutorial, and I want that PIG scheme!
Cluster munitions are dangerous, cause alot of collateral and unexploded sub-munitions are a hazzard to civilians who might be returning to the area days, weeks or months later. There are heavy regulations that they have to have self destruction mechanisms (which of course, can fail) and other such meassures, but it was decided to just ban their use outright because of the hassle to make them "safe". But, the US being the US, don't fucking care what no international community decides to limit it's war fighting capabilities, and so just said "nah fam, they fine!" Not a bash against the US...Cluster Munitions can be very useful, especially as mine field dispensers, but there are so many unexploded bomblets that can cause fatalities years after a war that internationally, they are considered "bad PR" to use. Much like dropping white phosperous on personell...
I'd made the pig livery myself specifically for that little joke, There's a new model for the JSOW coming soon so i won't be releasing it to the public.
Wonderful tutorial, answering a bunch of peripheral questions I still didn't have definitive answers for, like "Do I put my target point at the start or the middle of the column?".

It's not publicly available i made it myself, the jsow 3d model has also been replaced since recording so the one i made isn't compatible with the new model.
RedKite, when we launch 2 💣 together we know that the “space impact” is the distance between 2 JSOW 💣 considering the SPI at the center right? But these 💣 do not fall whole to the ground (such as JDAM), but open in the air in clusters. Therefore the “space impact” is calculated from the center of 1st 💣💣💣 💣 to the center of 2nd or simply the distance between 2 JSOW 💣 in the air? I hope it is clear I,m 🇮🇹🙏👍
Hey Military, just like we lob mortars further with hotshot charge clipped onto the base to blow it further and further in flight for maximum range, why can't we strap a cheap rocket system to these to engage when before stalling begins to increase its range. A very cheap cruise missile
I thought my JSOW's were working fine, then some were acting like they were not armed and hitting targets without exploding. I checked and doubled checked, and am searching for info, so far nothing i found for help I know it is probably not me, because I fly with some very good pilots and they also are having the same issue. I am still looking to see what happened to the ones that do not arm or explode or both.

F-16 for sure, F-15, probably and i've certainly an interest in the F-4e how much each one gets covered will probably come down to how close together they release, only have so much time!
Great video! I don't understand why there are 6 pre-plan targets available to each station when you can only carry a certain number of JSOWs at a time. Do you know why ?
Just a software design thing i expect, or a memory limitation. it's unusual for aircraft in reality to have more than a couple targets with primary perhaps some secondary and targets of operation. Usually they'l be all pre-setup in the data cartridge, so you'l often have pp1-6 be the same on every station. Having them setup means you can just pick on the fly which target the bomb will be for as the situation dictates.
Excellent video thankyou. Can I ask, can you employ these weapons in a true TOO mode whereby you have no prior knowledge of the Sam site until being spiked? I would assume you would attempt to find the Sam with your tpod or atflir then use the coords and input them to the weapon? But you would use the pp mode even though you are actually doing a "true" TOO where you are reacting to a new threat?
TOO mode feels like such a misnomer to me. You still need a waypoint right on target and by the time you've set that up the opportunity might be gone. Sincerely hope TOO will also accept coordinates directly from the FCR and TGP, just like with the SPI in the Hog.
It'l make more sense once mark points, tpg and fcr are added. Realistically when using too with waypoints you'd most likely be using an offset with TOO mode, but that's not implemented just yet.
Hi. I love your tutorials and normally i dont have any problems with them. This time I have a problem with the dual rack'd JSOW for PP missions. Thing is i cannot step throu the stations without selecting both stations in the quantity page. but then it seems to drop both weapons of each station to the PP1 asigned to that station. I think i can remember reading something about not beeing able to step thou stations some time ago. I m a bit lost. Maybe you can help?
The logic changed, qty is required to step, but is otherwise the same. When you pickle away the first pair, you need to select the new pre-planned target, step and select it on the next station then drop. you cannot configure the second bomb on a dual rack until the first is gone. It inherits the settings, so you've gotta change them before the next drop.
@@RedKiteRender Hey, thanks you for the explaination. I was typing in coords now for the last hour trying to understand how it works. TOO and precice waypoints then for the time being. I guess at some point it will change again, else the PP with dual racks would really be stupid. Or may i didn't get you right. 1. @@MattesSPunkt That would work, however if you select qty, you'l drop one per station selected, so you'd drop on station 2 and 8 on pp1, then step the stations to select pp2 on both, then drop the second salvo. Yep, Term is for terminal guidance parameters, I can't wait for the bearing option to be enabled, the descent rate should be interesting too, get some dive bombing going on, although both of these will reduce the maximum launch range.
The AGM-88 has a lower RCS than the real AMG-154, so i'm sorry to contradict you here, but ED didn't use the right numbers on the AGM-154's RCS. Indeed the shape matters, but the difference in actual cross-sectional area is a disadvantage to the JSOWs.
Lofting doesn't really extend range per say on unpowered munitions. it's equivalent to just flying higher. You'd loft to allow you to pop up deliver from low altitude reducing your time exposed at higher altitude. You could loft a JSOW if you wish but i'm not sure how the glide guidance would handle that. For maximum range you want to be as high and fast as the aircraft can go.
