  • I show you how to change the rear brake pads on a Ford Mondeo Mk4 model year 2013. The same steps should work for the pre-facelift model 2007-2010 as well. I would expect the steps to be very similar on the Mk5 Ford Mondeo / Ford Fusion sold in the US.
You can also check out my article on how to change brake pads and rotors at homeneer.com/how-to-replace-b...
I go over the steps for completing the brake job:
    0:14 Required tools
    0:50 Jacking up the car
1:45 removing the hand brake cabel
2:13 Removing the caliper slide bolts
    2:51 Removing the caliper
3:08 Removing the old brake pads and cleaning rust off from caliper bracket
    04:28 Compressing the caliper piston
    What you will need:
New brake pads for your car model
    Work gloves
Lug wrench (Telescoping lug wrench is my preference)
Jack (Floor Jack is my preference)
    Jack stands
Wheel chock (Piece of wood for example)
    Socket wrench
    Copper anti-seize
    Silicone paste
    Caliper compression tool

Don't forget to line up the piston cutout with the pin on the pad. Reason for PVC tube is to let brake fluid out rather than pushing fluid back up pipes to the master cylinder as the piston is wound in. Also press brake padel at end to seat the pads and lift/release handbrake a few times to reset parking brake

Is it possible to just remove one slider bolt and lift the caliper enough to drop new pads in?

I think you miss that brake hardware on bottom of caliber braket. That thin shield where brake pads slides.

Yes you are right that was missed.

What was the clear tube for @ 6:01 and also is there a way of compressing the piston without this special compression tool?

    • @Homeneer
      @Homeneer  3 года назад +1

Sorry for not explaining that tube in the video. It was for bleeding the brakes. There really isn't any need to do that normally. I just had too much brake fluid in the system so used the bleeding tube to take some out. When you compress the piston your brake fluid levels in the fluid tank in the engine compartment will rise but if you are not at the max when you start you should be fine.

Oh and the compression tool. Since this is a rotating model I haven't seen any non specific tool that you could easily use for this. If you are going to do brake jobs on your car for many years I would just buy the tool since it's 15-25USD. You can find some cubes and things you can connect to a socket wrench and stuff like that but having a set with many adapters and tools for left and right rotating is great since you will eventually change cars etc. Caliper compression: tool check link in video description.

@@Homeneer Yeah true might just invest in some brake caliper compression tools.

I think maybe add copper grease to the caliper edges that touch the pads. Stops squeeking.
