She makes all those stretches look so easy. I don't even do ballet or any type of physical exercise. I'm just a crazy writer who thought it'd be cool to make her main character a ballet dancer. But now I want to do ballet.
You all probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account? I was stupid forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
I danced since I was a kid. I quitted dancing for 15 years and now I'm back at class. I was very frustrated because I had such good extensions and I totally lost them in that 15 years (obviously). I took this routine 3 times, and yesterday, I could do a penche. I almost died of happiness. WORKING ON SPLITS! THANK YOU KATHRYN!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a personal trainer....looking to increase flexibility and I am SOOOOOO thankful that you teach proper form and proper transition between exercises!!!!!! It's so hard to find "quality" flexibility videos....I know this is for dancers, but this is an excellent supplement to my normal routines. Thanks!
Hey, I'm an adult beginner, I've just discovered your videos via your en dedans pirouette tutorial. I've been finding your videos really clear and helpful. Thanks :)
Would you mind addressing the dangers of over stretching and going for over splits? I see that is Really popular nowadays. At ballet school they taught us a kinesiology course and really Stressed how dangerous it was to attain this kind of flexibility. That ultimately it led towards: misalignment, vulnerability to injuries and will even shorten your ballet career.
+Betsy Kirkland yes, I'd like to hear about it too. I find it relatively easy to go into oversplits. I've heard that it can be dangerous and make you voulnerable, but I find that my old hip injury gives me grief if I don't maintain that level of flexibility.
Imagine your muscles as an elastic band, if you over stretch them it all never have the same elasticity and will snap. You can prevent your muscles from doing this is you do certain exercises to count act the stretching.
I've decided to become a professional this past year and wanted more advice from pros, took me forever to find the right person. You help me become a better dancer!!
Love love loveeeee this routine for opening up my hips I've been only stretching my hamstrings which has done nothing for my splits and caused injuries along the way.
i adore your channel and how you explain everything in details, with every possible mistake. I want to ask if you could do a video for plies, because i want to figure out myself how i can get a deeper plie and yet relax more. it would be good since a plie is in many steps in ballet and by doing perfect plies would help doing the rest better too.
This is has seriously changed my life. I stopped ballet for a while and thought I lost all my flexibility because it hurt while stretching, but I just wasn’t warming up before and I was doing the stretches in the wrong order! Again, thank you so much Kathryn, you are so amazing.
This is amazing! Love these stretches and your tips to keep things safe and injury-free. I was wondering if there are any specific stretches to improve your hip crease for developpé a la seconde. My hips get really tight and crunchy, especially to the side, sometimes it feels like there's so much "stuff" getting in the way. Any tips? Thank you so so much for all these videos! You are delightful to watch.
Margot H Hey, I'm not Kathryn but i used to have the exact same problem and something that has really helped me is rolling out my hips before class for 15 to 20 seconds with a roller ball. (a small tennis looking ball is good) Hope this helps!
yay this was such a helpful video! Thanks so much! I like how you take the time to really stretch out the entire body, even the less said of areas like the neck and the achilles, arches and hips etc. Many videos here just go straight to the splits and im happy how you really prepared us for it instead--i actually got all the way down today and i never thought i could, maybe its due to me not going through the entire process of stretching the hamstrings and hips etc before trying^^ Thank you and have a great day!
I've had my splits for as long as I can remember and even my over splits. I've also done this routine before but for some reason today I did it and went into the split it felt so good and relaxed thank you I'm gonna start doing this more often!!
I really like you videos! I'm not really a dancer, I'm just a Colorguard member trying to become a better dancer. I find your videos extremely helpful for the limited dance that I do need to for shows! Thank you!
I just started doing ballet and these stretches help so much. My calf’s were super sore from class and after doing these stretches they felt so much better. Will absolutely be doing these stretches before class from now on
Thanks Kathryn. I have been struggling with my flexibility for over a year now. I like your routine. It's simple and straightforward and makes a lot of sense it terms of the order of the stretches.
this is the best stretching routine i've ever done! doing the splits felt so good and easy, after stretching the hips so much. thank you! looking forward to checking out your other stretching videos!
Thank you Kathryn, I am a ispiring ballerina and I've been trying to get more flexible to reach my splits I've clicked on all other split tutorials but none worked until I found you're video which actually got me to the splits!
Thank you so much! I've never taken a ballet class in my life though I would love to someday. I've been a black belt for about two years and have trained for 7 years. (Since I was seven years old! Wow. Half my life.) I love karate and one of my favorite parts is stretching. This was really fun for me and it'll really help with my kicks!
Much Obliged, Lady Kathryn for 'Da Helpful Video. Geaux for it, Lady Kathleen and Kindra "hey, Kate here. LOVE stretches. My daily regimen. thx Kathryn for the helpful advice. Granddaughter Kindra will enjoy the sweaty stretches LOL" Kathleen "Kate" "Hey, Katie. Kindra here. Awesome video. Stretching routines are a challenge. Great for my future. Thx Katie" Kindra "thx Corporal for sharing our takes. Credit to Kathryn" #PraiseSisterKate #OldSchoolLadyDisciplinePartner #KathleenKateKatieNation
I play the piano for the academy of a ballet company in Salt Lake City. I finish playing at about 7 on Friday nights and after that all the studios empty out. For the last couple of weeks I have been using the empty space to put myself through your ballet classes and stretch routines. it's been so awesome for my personal training and a great way to start my weekend. Thank you Katie!
Since I do your workouts I feel better with myself and my body and I'm actually improving my flexibility and dance skills. You're great!! Greetings from Spain.
I'm loving this channel! I've done this stretch sequence several times and really enjoy it. One problem I have is my feet... I don't really feel the foot stretch at all after the first time I did it. Do you have any tips for me and my wee little toes? :)
I've never been flexible, but decided to work on it. After doing these stretches for the past two weeks, I have now, for the first time, been able to touch my toes! Thanks!
Brilliant! just what I was looking for thank you I've also started doing your barre workouts too. I am really enjoying the 12 week challenge. I have been aiming to get my flexibility back again at age 40! I have to say there should be no reason as too why I cannot achieve this goal xxx
Best video ever!!! i mean, ive been watching and doing a few or your videos per day and i can tell u that u are amazing! thanks for putting so much effort on those videos!!!
Thank you! Very good routine :) I like how you emphasise the right positions and the feeling one should have while doing the exercise. I find your instructions really easy to understand and I feel I progress better following them. So, once again, thank you!
Hi katie, Thank you so much for this routine! I'm on summer break and have not yet started my summer program and have been trying to stay flexible over break. I'm quite tight in certain areas and this is the first routine where it has really felt like it stretches me without causing pain or feeling like it went too far afterwards! Thank you so much
Dear Katie, I follow your channel from the very beginning and couldn't click faster on the video as soon as I get a notification you posted something :) I have been doing this routine for a while now and I can really see some improvement. However, I have a suggestion. I think that a follow along (longer) stretching video could be very useful for us who need some sort of motivation and a stretching buddy. I hope you will consider this. Hugs and kisses from Croatia
Your account is so helpful, I don't take ballet, but a lot of the tips still help for jazz! And we also have the same name, which is really cool, nobody I know spells it with a Y!
Could you do a video on just how to increase your hip and back flexibility. I have real problems with my back flexibility I love your channelThank you☺️ X
I'm an absolute beginner in ballet......I have no flexibility whatsoever, so I find it hard to do these exercises....any suggestions on how I can improve my flexibility (any exercises?) for ballet?
My dance teachers been on my back to get my left leg split (my bad one) so me and my sis stretched our splits before doing this. Then when we did this our splits where 10 times lower!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! Ilysm. So excited for you class tonight! Ur my inspiration
Oh my god this is amazing for actually the past I don’t know how many years I’ve been like an inch off the ground for all of my splits and it’s because I never stretched my hip flexors. Thanks so much for the video!
Hey Kathryn! I am 13 and have been taking ballet for 9-10 years. I have yet to get my splits and almost all the girls in my level already do. I feel very insecure when asked to do splits. One of my new years resolutions is to gain flexibility and get my splits. If you have any stretches or can do a video on this topic that would be great. In the mean time I will try to imply some of the tips in your video about confidence in ballet class.
Thank you so much! This was so helpful. Do you have any tips for a flat or bearish flat penche? I’m flat in my splits but can’t get a flat pence and I need to be able to do one for my exam in September. If you can provide any tips I’ll be extremely grateful, thank you so much
this works!! my stretch got so much better in just first try!! I'll keep doing it! Thanks a lot! You said don't try this until I am warmed up. But could I do this stretching routine after warming up before ballet class?
Hi Katie, I love your videos and really enjoy following them along. Do you have any advice on improving really tight hamstrings. I'm really frustrated with mine and can't get them past halfway. This is really frustrating as I'm trying to work towards the splits. Are there any special tricks you have for this, or would you be able to do a video on this please?
Warm up and stretch them? Don't stretch passed around 80% of what you can do. I find doing active stretches more beneficial (i.e. ones where you are actively engaging your muscles during the stretch), and dynamic stretching. If you have comparatively a lot more range of motion in your quads, it might be worth going to see a physio/chiropractor to check that your pelvis isn't going out of alignment. They should give you exercises/stretches for that -- including stretches for your hamstrings in all likelihood.
Thank you so much for doing this, and all of your videos! I'm trying to regain (or surpass? lol!) the flefability I had when I was training in ballet years ago, and this looks perfect! Again, many thanks!
Hi Kathryn, I recently discovered your channel and absolutely love it!!! I have watched like 10 of the videos already, and I am loving all the tips! I am very interested in incorporating this stretching routine on a daily basis, but unfortunately, I do not have the time to do it after my ballet class (they close the studio). Do you have any advice on how to warm up a bit before doing it? Would running for a few minutes or something like that do the trick? Thanks so much! Best, Nuria
Thanks for the amazing stretches! I have a question, when I stretch with my legs straight and feet flexed, my calves are really tight, sore, tingly and super uncomfortable. Do you have any tips for loosening calve muscles? I often feel it causes me to grip them when I pointe my foot :(
very late I know, but one of my favorite back exercises is laying on your stomach and slowly lifting your legs and arms, while engaging back and oblique muscles.
hey kathryn, i just found out about your channel and i have been following you because i have a curved spine and limited flexibility although my twelve years of classical ballet. It's very difficult for me to do tendus in fifth position because my thighs are not skinny and my calf is very muscled. Do you have any exercise to help? because when i try to seal in fifth position when doing a tendu or jete i feel doing it wrong.
+Maria Luiza Campos I know exactly what you are talking about! I have a double curve in my spine. The top is 17 degrees and the bottom it 37. I find getting my splits and holding that flexibility on my left side very hard. At one point I even gave up on dancing and tossed all my stuff out! Now I really miss ballet and want to get back into the studio! I have yet to find something to help other than stretching everyday.
Hi, awesome videos one after the other! :) Quick question, I managed to slightly pull a muscle, I think, somewhere between the end of the butt and beginning of the thigh. I thought I had already warmed up and had already tried my splits but... I don’t know. In any case, it was my better leg and would really love to regain the height in grand battements as quickly as possible! Right now it hurts sort of like a bruise would but doesn’t (luckily) keep me out of class. Any tips? :)
I recently discovered your channel and you are so amazing! Is it posiblw to get some personal advice from you? Also I wanted to ask if you know what the cause of my problem with me. When I am stretching Butterfly I don't feel a stretch and my knees are almost completely to the floor, but the moment I take my handy of my hips they god back to their intial psoition. No matter how much I do it is does not get better even though I don't feel a stretch and can push it down. It just never is loose and stays there... hope I explained it properly...
Stefanie Reddy I'm no expert at all, but to me it sounds like you muscles lack the strength to stay in the position (like being able to do the splits on the floor doesn't mean you can do a penché with you legs at 180 degrees). I would try isometric stretches, like the one Kathryn does on the first hamstring stretch: Push your knees down with your hands while pressing the knees up against your hands (hope I make sense;-)). I think this will build strength. And then there is a great exercise for turnout which Kathryn shows in the "Strength and Stretch for Dancers" vid. This might help as well.
Nicola Foxfield I can see you in any of the classes titled "coaching". The rest are ones where you can just see me. I give out general corrections all the time though. But I like letting you all feel that there is no judgment.
I know some people commented on this, but I am looking for a way to safely stretch oversplits. Is there a way to do it without being dangerous or harmful? If so, how? Thanks!
Is it OK to use a band to do some of the stretches? I'm 42 and have been doing adult ballet for about 5 years so my flexibility is not the same as someone who has trained as a dancer or has done a lot of ballet as a child. Particularly lying on your back and pulling your leg up to your head, my leg can get to 90 degrees and even then my knee is bending. Is using a band to gently pull the leg further OK to start with until I work up to flexibility?
I have a question. When you do the stretch move at 12:04 in the video, is it necessary to do a split after? I was just wondering because I can't do the full splits yet, especially not with my left leg (my bad one, which always hurts when I stretch it). I can't even do the side splits yet either, unfortunately. But I will definitely try all the stretches (if I can) Thank you so much! Love your channel!
She makes all those stretches look so easy. I don't even do ballet or any type of physical exercise. I'm just a crazy writer who thought it'd be cool to make her main character a ballet dancer. But now I want to do ballet.
Rachel Litchfield you should do it! The personal experience would help you writing as well😉
Did you write that book? I would like to read it xD
@@SoftyM20 I'm wondering if she wrote the book, AND if she started doing ballet.
You all probably dont give a damn but does someone know of a tool to get back into an Instagram account?
I was stupid forgot my login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
Omg that is actually so incredible. I just did the stretches and ohmygod my splits just got like 50% better in like 10 minutes! Lol thanks!!
clairebear64 I am so glad to hear that!!! Thank you for telling me! :)

Hi Kathryn,
I recently discovered your channel and absolutely love it!!!
Best,
Nuria
so glad I found your channel!
You are such a good teacher, where are the online classes?
check the description:)
Thanks for the amazing stretches! I have a question, when I stretch with my legs straight and feet flexed, my calves are really tight, sore, tingly and super uncomfortable. Do you have any tips for loosening calve muscles? I often feel it causes me to grip them when I pointe my foot :(
Really needed this today. thanks girl
Please can you do the lilac fairy makeup from the sleeping beauty ❤
Great demonstration; yet, you did do any extensive upper body stretches. May I respectfully ask why?
All of them are super easy
Do you have any good tips to get a softer back?
Could you do a video for strengthening your back? I would really like to improve my arabesque. :)
very late I know, but one of my favorite back exercises is laying on your stomach and slowly lifting your legs and arms, while engaging back and oblique muscles.
did you get a new camera? the quality is great!
How old are you Kathryn and how long have you been dancing? Sorry, I'm new to this channel.
Hello! Please can you do a video on how to improve your ponchè (sorry, can't spell it) please! Thank you! Xxx

I didn't understand what she said in the aquiles stretch, i should or shouldn't lift my hands off the ground?
you should be able to, because all your weight should be in your feet
Hi, awesome videos one after the other! :) Quick question, I managed to slightly pull a muscle, I think, somewhere between the end of the butt and beginning of the thigh. I thought I had already warmed up and had already tried my splits but... I don’t know. In any case, it was my better leg and would really love to regain the height in grand battements as quickly as possible! Right now it hurts sort of like a bruise would but doesn’t (luckily) keep me out of class. Any tips? :)
Eva K Soak it in Epson soap. You could also rub it out, or put 20 minutes heat; 20 minutes ice, and repeat.
Thank you! It helped a lot... You're seriously the best! :)
Your channel is amazing. I love it.
How do you straighten your back leg when doing splits?
Hi Katie, for the uninitiated, how do your powhow classes work? Obviously we can see you but can you see us to offer corrections etc? Kathryn Morgan
Can u do a warm up routine?
She already has one :)
Thanks is much for this it was so helpful! I remember requesting this video;)
