... after a week of doing this video daily, i'm giving it credit for helping me to accomplish my first triple pirouette (on demi)!!! ... it felt so AWESOOOOOME!!! ... look forward to nailing it consistently on both sides. Gracias Katie :)
Great job!! I’m so proud of you! Must feel amazing. I’m out here still trying to do doubles 😭 (i struggle with strength in pirouettes and posture… yeah you could say i just struggle with pirouettes) And considering this was five years ago i hope your doing even better now :)
This is just what I needed! I have really unstable ankles, and I am constantly falling out of turns and releve. I know that this will help me:) Thanks!
You should make a video about protecting your Achilles tendon. Recently I have been having a hard time and I'm sure we all could benefit from some tips. Great video today by the way! :)
I am not a ballerina like at all. I'm a normal hip-hop jazz dancer. Idk what I'm doing here at midnight lol. But holy shit this is hard. My legs were screaming literally after four minutes of this. My respect for ballerinas just went up 50000 notches. Hats off if you're a ballerina. 🙏🙏🙏🙏
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! I'm a older dancer trying to build my strength up and your videos are so helpful! It's great to hear from a really experienced dancer who I know I can trust! Thank you!
I have just discovered your channel. I’m so happy I have found this video. I did ballet as a child from 4years until I was about 15 and had a good solid classical education. I’m now 30 and I have just started again. My flexibility came back pity fast and my technique was still pity good, apparently old habits die hard in a good way! I have been struggling with my strength and stamina, particularly working towards getting back on en point. This video and theses exercises have been so helpful. I’m suddenly making HUGE improvements in this area. Seriously THANK YOU.
These exercises were brutal! But in a good way! Can't wait to see how my technique, balance, and strength will improve after doing these regularly. Thanks, Katie!
loved this workout! i'm struggling with my shoulder blades a lot even though i do many exercises and think about them a lot during class. i'd like to see a video about "shoulders down!!!"😂
A few days ago I did a really good pirouettes, it was so balanced and chill, kinda like I could have gone limp, and I would have stayed up. I am now very inspired to make all my pirouettes feel balances like that.
Your amazing ! I was wondering if you could make a video about hip strengthening. I have hip problems so that when I lift my leg my hip pops. Love you!!
I saw this and immediately tried it in my workout. My calves were burning after it and I was sweaty as hell, but I felt like I really did something for my muscles. Love it, will definitely be doing this a lot.
this is the 25th time that i have practiced this routine this year, i love it very much and it has helped me with my stability to the point where i can sustain a 120 degree side battement for almost 15 seconds more than i could last year. thank you, kathryn!
Hi Kathryn, I'm Zofia from the UK, and my ballet teacher had a chat with me yesterday and she said i have beautiful extension, flexibility and turnout but i need to strengthen up for things like develops in the centre. My plan is to tone up this summer and do workouts like this, and for balance and strength every day this summer because I want to go back with a bang this new year!! Do you have a recommended schedule or exercises like this that would help me as I tend to procrastinate a bit...? P.S., congratulations on getting married! I loved watching all your blogs. :) xxx
@Karah Hutchings Hey! I'm 18 and have EDS and I'm wanting to get into dance. I've been diagnosed for a few years so if you wanna talk about it you can message my Instragram if you want? It's @holly__m678
I just followed these exercises a couple hours before my ballet class and for the first time ever I was able to do developpes in center adage without almost falling, so thank you so much!
I actually play ice hockey and have started doing this workout as an addition to my normal lifting and training and it’s has done wonders for my balance and body control. I’ve also had numerous ankle injuries and this had helped me gain back so much strength in my ankles
This is perfect! I’ve been having trouble with pirouettes on demi simply because I don’t have good balance. I’ve been relearning how to balance myself due to my feet so this is perfect
Hi Kathryn. I've been watching your videos for a good year now and they are all so very helpful. I'm a dance leader at our church worship team and we used this video at our weekly practice on Thursday night and boy, did it burn!!! We are not trained ballet dancers, although a few of us have had ballet classes as a child. We are all in our late 20's, early 30's and I would say when it comes to ballet work, we are all beginners. Can you make more videos that would help strengthen the core? This video was very helpful and we will continue to do it from week to week until it becomes much, much easier. On another note, my husband has Hashimoto's and thank you so much for all of the videos you have done about this. He and I have both watched them together and taken some of your dietary and other advice and we definitely don't feel alone now. Thank you for that! Please don't ever stop making videos like this... I have bookmarked so many of them and am going to incorporate as much of them into dance practice and my own routine as I can. Thank you so much!!!!
Hi! I tried this out today and it also seemed to help me a bit. I was wondering, did also help you gain strength in ur legs? (Like tilts, leg holds or anything that has to do with not holding ur leg?:))
Hey Katie! I have learnt so much from watching your videos! I'm really struggling with fast frappes, glisses, and battement tendus at the barre, while keeping my turn out and still pointing my feet. Would be wonderful to see your insight into getting you legs to move fast! Xxx
As an older woman who has issues with falling do to breaking every bone from hip to tips of toes. This video has helped me with balance and strengthening my legs. Thanks.
Trying to do these as a theatre kid who’s never taken ballet. I’ve always had such an appreciation for ballerinas but this brings it back into mind. I hope to build up as much strength as I can. Thank you so much for this!!!
Thanks so much Kathryn. I have really been struggling with stability lately and it has caused me a little stress. But I found your channel and your tutorials are SO helpful. ❤️😘
Thank you so much. Im not a dancer however ive just had knee surgery and im using some of these excercises to strengthen my good leg. They've also helped by stability when using the crutches 😁😁
Great video as usual, Katie! Could you do one on exercises to improve placement. This is my biggest challenge after having stopped dancing for 20 years. I can't go back to the proper placement and balance I used to have.
Absolutely perfect. THANK YOU. I tie a thera-band around my calf or ankle, and then to a chair or table, and then do calf and ankle exercises that way --- it works like magic!
Thank you so much for your videos. I can only attend ballet classes 1/3 times a week due to my school hours and i'm so anxious since i'm falling behind but your videos give some kind of guidance so that I can still do something at home
Can you please please please do a video about the correct placement of attitude, I have so many in my routines this year and I feel like I'm so out of line with it! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

LOVING THE LEGGINGS!!!!!!!!!! (Last ditch attempt to get you to see this comment...Sorry to everyone who's seen it several times!) Hoping you can help me Katie!! The studio I go to now only has 2 classes a week, but I can't afford to go to the other studio near me. I supplement my classes with 2 and 1/2 hours of workouts every morning and give my self class the days of the week that I'm not at the studio. But I know it's not the same without a teacher to give me feedback. Do you have any advice for what else I can be doing? And how can I let them know that I work for more than 3 hours of the week (there's no where to say that on a Summer Audition application form)?
I'm sorry you are in that situation! I think you are approaching this correctly - doing something is better than nothing! So I'm proud of you for doing what you can on your own. Even if it is barre on the days you don't have class, that will make a difference. Could you talk to one of your teachers? Maybe you could explain the situation. They might be willing to work with you privately. Or even push you more in the classes you are currently taking. Are there other schools in your area? Maybe you could supplement classes at a 2nd studio. Many dancers have had to do that, myself included. I think you are on the right track - just keep doing what you can!
The only other school within an hour and a half is the too expensive one, and I take Cecchetti method, so the classes are set. But the other studio does have a once a week Pilates-based class that I could maybe go to. And I will look into the privates. Thank you so much for making all of your workouts and barres accessible!!!!
this workout was the key for my calf strengthening!! thank you so much!! can you also do a video on turns and how to perfect them!! because thats what im struggling with. and also a video on how to perfect your jumps and exercises to help them!! thanks!!
Hi Kathryn! I'd love to see a video about flexibility/strength and tips for developpe's and leg raises. Also, it would be great if you made a video with a 5-15 minute workout/stretching/technique practise video for dancers who want to train outside of class but don't have much time. Loving all your videos!
Your videos are so helpful!! I was able to do a double pirouette after yout last video and I also just did my split on my bad side as well, following along with your stretching routine after class! But... I have one thing I struggle the most: I have huge difficulty on supporting my leg in the air... after a couple of seconds, my leg just "fall" or I get completely unsquared on the hips... Are these exercises helpful for that kind of situation? If not, I would love to see a video about it! Thank you and sorry for any grammar mistakes XD Portuguese is my first language!
Tysm for this workout. I really appreciate it! Huge achievement for me: I made it to the very end of the video and I didn’t die doing this workout. (Although my calves do feel tired and I’m sure they will get a lot stronger after doing this workout.)

im not a dancer but i figure skate - skaters rely a lot on leg strength too. this work out is wonderful
ivazie i just went to try ice skating on Sunday, AND IT WAS SOOOO HARD! I had to hold on to the barrier the whole time.
lol I skate too and that’s why I’m here, glad I found a fellow figure skater 😂
I also figure skate, this is so helpful!
glad to find a figure skater here!
same, I'm trying to get my sit spins with this
