Looks like it's solidly built compared to the Arcade1UP machines. I'd be the most curious to see what the insides are like. I wonder if you can swap the buttons easily with real arcade parts, or if it's a proprietary/PCB mounted design. Also curious what the modding potential will be down the line. I understand shooting with a camcorder isn't ideal, but I didn't see any screen tearing at least like with the Neo-Geo X from many years back. That's promising.
I have one and there is SOME screen tearing occasionally. Nothing to scream about, but it pops up sometimes. I like the system and think it's good for what it is. My biggest gripe would probably be too limited options for image display. Most modes are unusable, including pixel perfect, which does not look right on an LCD. The smoothed over mode is the one I use, even though I think it vertically stretches the images a bit. I still think the system is a good deal if only for the beautiful marquee and front panel design.
Why do these Neo Geo retro things always include Top Player's Golf instead of the far superior Neo Turf Masters? SNK bought Nazca, so I don't see why there'd be some licensing issue or something. If the scene can hack this thing to run any Neo Geo ROM, then I'll consider buying one.
Neo Geo executives that ran the company back in the early 2000's are in charge of this project. That helped in my decision as well. They will be open to adding to this cabinet, unlike Arcade 1up.
Always interesting to see what's out there in video games, but my holy grail arcade cabinet would have to be an original vector graphics game like Asteroids or Omega Race.

This thing looks amazing ! I've always wanted a NeoGeo, especially for the Fatal Fury games, and this would really bring the arcade feeling to the home for a much lower cost (both in money and space requirements) compared to buying 8 original MVS arcade cabinets. However, there are some deal-breakers; Looking at the borders around the screen I feel like it could have benefited from a larger screen, and the lack of a video out (HDMI?) doesn't help either. But most importantly for me the lack of a audio out / headphone jack is what really bums me out.
It would be nice to have a cabinet but with space restrictions I want with the Neo Arcade Stick Pro which is a hell of a value especially after upgrading it with a Bat Top and more games hard to beat for $100.
Thanks for all your interesting arcade reviews and your place with all your different arcade consoles & games for each console looks absolutely Amazing have a fantastic day 💗🥰👍 😀

I pre-ordered mine straight away, they actually offer shipping to Australia! It's going to look fantastic with my Arcade1Ups and Toy Shock pinball, bringing a little more variety to my home arcade. Although some of my favourites aren't included, I can't complain with 50 games! And I'm sure at some point there'll be an easy way to add more games with a USB stick if we want to.
Hi I'm in australia how u likin it just want some feedback if possible before I buy it also can you upgrade the joystick buttons etc and can you add more games
I'm glad you can remap the controls? If the colored buttons were the ones used, for fighting games, the button configuration would be different from the modern iterations of those games played on a FightStick. I do remember some arcades having this layout back in the day, but I always thought it was inferior to the punches on top, kicks on bottom standard Street Fighter set.
Yeah but it wouldn't make sense for them to make the MVSX, which is a nostalgia rebuild of the MVS arcade machine, only for them to then change the classic button layout of NEOGEO arcade machines
Hey Metal Jesus! Love your content, i’ve been watching every single video that comes out for around 2-3 years now. I have a question. As we know, both PlayStation and Xbox have a way of “Achievements/Trophies” on every game. I’m an achievement hunter, and have 35 games 100% complete achievements and all, and it really opened up things in games i would’ve never seen if i didn’t go for achievements, have you ever considered maybe going for achievements/trophies?
I really like getting Achievements and Trophies in games, but RUclips has me bouncing around so much between systems and game releases, it's hard to focus on just one for very long. That said, I do wish the Switch had something like that as well...because handheld mode gets a lot of use too!
the arcade1up cabs simulate the arcades of our youth. should they be smaller or bigger? i think they are a good size. tabletop 'cades are nice but i prefer an actual cabinet like i played on in the 80s and 90s
Video Games Are Fun I build my own full size units so that’s what I’m used to. I would like a full sized licensed product one day that is reasonably priced.
It’s much too small for two players. I would prefer a one player model at this size or just make the control area about 6 inches wider on each side to allow for more space between the two players. I don’t want to be touching the second players hand while playing the games. Other than that this is a slick machine and I would love to get one.
Very cool. Seriously considering this. But, I'm torn between this, and the iiRcade. Very tough decision. want both, but have to be patient. LOL Thanks for the review.
It looks pretty cool actually. I'm a big SNK fan and I love all SNK fighters. However, I would have liked to know what is inside, I mean to pay a lot of money for a simple emulation is not worth it.
I’m really tempted to buy one especially for the 50 games included as to the arcade 1up 4 but I agree that it’s so fighter heavy which I was never good at them using a joystick.
The laundrymad near my house close down and the guy sold 3 neo geo cabinets he had there since forever...2 cab came with 4 games the 3rd with 3 games.. $200. Each cabinet.
All those games were interchangable. The MVX acted like a plug and play. An acracde owner could buy the rom or buy the machine and have NeoGeo come and swap them out if it wasn't making money
@@SoulforSale i bough 2 of them.. One with samurai shodown, king of fighters, bubble bubble and magic lord I think.. The other one not sure the but i know it has Super Sidekicks lol the main reason i got the cabinet...
I'm happy with my $10 switch version and the AES version on my NEO GEO asp with the hylo stick hack and unibios 4.0. That route is too rich for my blood lol. Neo Turf Masters is my favorite sports snk game along with Street hoops and windjammers.
It's not good value for the limited game selection included, plus it's inferior software emulation. Wish there were a dedicated FPGA Neo Geo system that works with everything...
I own Arcade1Ups so for me this is a nice fit in my little Arcade. I preordered this. 50 games is still tons. Awesome and fair review. You mention lots of fighting games, yes and those games are so huge on Neo Geo that they had to put them on there. With that being said or be crucified! (No offense) Everyone would love even more games, but there is some variety besides fighting, such as, Metal Slug, Magician Lord, Shock Troopers, Super Sidekicks, 3 CountBout, Baseball Stars, Football Frenzy Top Player Golf. This is 8 games that are each different from each other and from fighting games.
I've always wanted to build a mame cabinet about this size, just don't have a place to put it right now. Also noticed in the footage, you really gotta get friendly with 2 player games. They're hands are rubbing and their shoulders are touching. I guess that's to be expected with this size tho.
Looks kinda *cramped* . Player 1 and 2 hands while playing are very close to hitting each other. For $500 would have been nice to have just a bit more space.
SNK wanted to bring arcade games to people's homes without making CPU and memory performance compromises that typical home consoles were forced to make. In 1990, the Neo Geo family was created. The company released a home version of the MVS, a single cartridge unit called the Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System (Neo Geo AES). Initially, the AES was only available for rent or for use in hotel settings, but SNK quickly began selling the system through stores when customer response indicated that people were willing to spend money on home versions. Several franchises of games derived from it, including Sengoku, The King of Fighters, The Last Blade, Super Sidekicks, Art of Fighting, Metal Slug, Burning Fight, Savage Reign, Samurai Shodown, and Fatal Fury. The King of Fighters and Metal Slug series were continued on later consoles. SNK also helped publish third-party Neo Geo games such as ADK's World Heroes and Aggressors of Dark Kombat, Visco's Breakers and Ganryu, Noise Factory's Rage of the Dragons and Sengoku 3, Sunsoft's Galaxy Fight: Universal Warriors and Waku Waku 7, Sammy's Viewpoint, NMK's Zed Blade, Aiky/Taito's Pochi and Nyaa, Face's Money Puzzle Exchanger, Data East's Spinmaster, Street Slam, Karnov's Revenge, Windjammers, Chain Reaction, Magical Drop II and Magical Drop III, Taito's Bust-A-Movie Again, Bust-A-Move Again: EX Edition, and Pochi and Nyaa, and TechnōsJapan's Double Dragon and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer. During this time, SNK also released stand-alone arcade games, some of which were ported to home consoles, including Vanguard, Alpha Mission, Athena, Ikari Warriors, Psycho Soldier, Touch Down Fever, Time Soldiers, P.O.W.: Prisoners of War, Beast Busters, and Street Smart.
Will get one for sure. As much as i love fighting games they should have definitely added a bit more variety. I dont mind that many because I love most of them but from a business perspective it may only reach a super niche audience.
Yeah i get you, but thats what they are known for in the first place, fighting games. Awh well its super easy to just put wahtever games you want onto it anyways
I wonder if you can add a one slot mvs into a cab this size...I have a full sized 4 slot mvs, but would love something more portable that was still in a cab. Might need to look at what cab plans are available.
The original Neo Geo in the USA uses "Happ" brand joysticks which are some of the most tight levers out there. This unit seems to be using a Sanwa clone with a bat top. Sanwa style sticks are used on the Japanese Neo Geo cabinets however they use a ball top which makes the stick way more comfortable to control with it's more loose feel. The stick on this unit does not look good imo
Is this unit the one ETA Prime reviewed? Seems like the time between his and yours is too short to have had him ship to you. Also you have the updated marquee for KOF 98. The first unit reviewed had the older marquee.
A pity it doesn't have a CRT filter option. That filter is just perfect. It would've been pretty much perfect if it had that and it would have an OLED screen, at 100/120 hz with strobing. Maybe something for a deluxe version?
Whats the quality of the cabinet like, Does the retail version come flatpacked like the arcade 1up, is the edge moulding the cheap iron on stuff or the proper tmoulding?
just waiting for the marvel vs. capcom 2 cabinet from arcade1up!! this unit though should be able to be raspberry pied and would make an amazing capcom fighting game setup alongside so many thousands of emulated games

@@MetalJesusRocks Thanks, I was wondering because this cab didn't come up anywhere on their website (www.snk-corp.co.jp)
I never cared for it and i hate Microsoft for it!
Most achievments is totally ridiculous!
In Canada, Unico is a food brand so that really trips me out lol.
Great job, nice review 👍
Seeing that cabinet reminds me of going to the arcade and playing Metal Slug like crazy
went to a barcade with a bunch of these cabinets. fantastic device.
Looks damn good! The size is the only disappointing thing about it. Not a fan of the arcade one up sized cabs.
the arcade1up cabs simulate the arcades of our youth. should they be smaller or bigger? i think they are a good size. tabletop 'cades are nice but i prefer an actual cabinet like i played on in the 80s and 90s
Video Games Are Fun I build my own full size units so that’s what I’m used to. I would like a full sized licensed product one day that is reasonably priced.
..Still loving that Marshall fridge in background..
I thought for a moment in the thumbnail picture for the video that was Charlie Brooker
It’s much too small for two players. I would prefer a one player model at this size or just make the control area about 6 inches wider on each side to allow for more space between the two players. I don’t want to be touching the second players hand while playing the games. Other than that this is a slick machine and I would love to get one.
MJR THE ARCADE! Coming soon to a neighborhood by you!
No Neo Turf Masters?
I'll stick with my AES, neosd and BVM.
Wait, gonna stick with that anyway...
The white buttons are likely triple punch and triple kick. For fighters, u often need those to do easy specials
Yeah complete dealbraker!
SNK also helped publish third-party Neo Geo games such as ADK's World Heroes and Aggressors of Dark Kombat, Visco's Breakers and Ganryu, Noise Factory's Rage of the Dragons and Sengoku 3, Sunsoft's Galaxy Fight:
Universal Warriors and Waku Waku 7, Sammy's Viewpoint, NMK's Zed Blade, Aiky/Taito's Pochi and Nyaa, Face's Money Puzzle Exchanger, Data East's Spinmaster, Street Slam, Karnov's Revenge, Windjammers, Chain Reaction, Magical Drop II and Magical Drop III, Taito's Bust-A-Movie Again, Bust-A-Move Again: EX Edition, and Pochi and Nyaa, and TechnōsJapan's
Double Dragon and Voltage Fighter Gowcaizer.
What’s the game that the guy and kid play at 1.08 ?
I remember that from my youth in a snooker club we used to go to.
The "control panel of this "MvsX bartop" are arcade 1up same side? Or is smaller than arcade 1up???
At 6:17mn what is the game name? Plz
Sengoku 3
Looks pretty good. Out of my budget though good deal or not, plus don't know where I'd put it, but looks good.
A pity it doesn't have a CRT filter option. That filter is just perfect. It would've been pretty much perfect if it had that and it would have an OLED screen, at 100/120 hz with strobing. Maybe something for a deluxe version?
Kinsey looks like she is a hacker in a 90s movie. Good button action :)
I’m a fighting game junkie, especially the SNK games. I will definitely pick this up!
This thing looks pretty cool!
Whats the quality of the cabinet like, Does the retail version come flatpacked like the arcade 1up, is the edge moulding the cheap iron on stuff or the proper tmoulding?
Love your content.
i am getting one just waiting for the price to drop soon
Thanks! Looks great.
Any game system with a violence option is alright by me. BRING ON THE GORE AND THE GUTS!
Any game system without and still gory is alright by me.
just waiting for the marvel vs. capcom 2 cabinet from arcade1up!! this unit though should be able to be raspberry pied and would make an amazing capcom fighting game setup alongside so many thousands of emulated games
metal jesus this mini arcade console he have the perfect games, neo geo is fighting console
