In this video, I create a book from start to finish and send the book off to Blurb to be printed. When I get that book from Blurb, I will do a follow-up video showing the book and in the follow-up video, I'll touch on one thing I neglected to include in this video and that is on how to get the Title or Caption to show near the image. ** I am an affiliate for all of the companies listed EXCEPT Affinity Photo. Thanks Anthony, this was one of the best demos on creating a book in Lightroom I have come across. Looking forward to see the result of your book order.
Perfect timing! I just finished a road trip with my son through the American Southwest and want to do a book as a remembrance. I've been going through you Lightroom Classic tutorials and have learned so much. I really enjoy your way of teaching. Thanks so much.
I was working on a book in this module for about a month now when I lost almost all of my work was gone! I making this comment to warn people about using this module. First this part of LR has not been updated or maintained for a very long time to my understanding. Having said that it remains sadly one of the better options for photobook design. If you do choose to use the clunky piece of software make sure to do the following: backup LR daily(change the catalog settings), export to PDF frequently - one of the hardest things was loosing the page text(a lot). Also with regarding to text I would recommend keeping all page texts in a separate file (Google Doc), the book module has no spelling correction this way you will make sure there are no typos. Work with image titles to comment as much as possible for the photos descriptions, these will not go away if something bad happens. I can't understand how so little options for text, font, style alignment, background, photo rotation, frames, font options and so on exits in this module. We are pay a small fortune every year for this software to get such an old archaic piece of software is an outcry!!!
This is an excellent presentation. The detail and the process provided are top class. I have two questions. (1) Have you produced a follow-up video on the actual book? (2) Could you come up with another video wherein you explain how to combine substantial amounts of text so one could create a comprehensive book, rather than an album of photos with some text added. You mentioned Santorini, so II take it you've been there. Thanks for the excellent work. Keep on teaching.
I just watched the 30 minute video to find out no follow up video was done after all! Almost defeats the whole objective so I’d guess the quality or production ended up looking rubbish, so I’ll skip and stay using bobs books for my photo books printing.
Hi, super video and really helpful as I am about to do major upgrade from Lightroom 5.7 to Classic desktop version. I've scoured the internet looking for the follow-up video showing the delivered book...but can't find a link other than the RUclips from 2013. Is book delivery delayed? Thanks!
Thanks for the review. I ordered books from Blurb a long time ago and managed to stumble through it. Once again you've given us a practical video and I'm going to order a book from Blurb this week.
Thanks for that, Anthony. I have made a couple of books through Blurb but I kind of did it by feel. This tutorial gave me some tips which will speed up my workflow in the future. Worth a great deal.
He never did a follow up, which tells me that it didn't come out that good. I do hope that I am wrong because that's something that I've been wanting to do.
Thanks, Anthony, perfect timing for me. I was just reviewing all the different sites and apps that produce photobooks and I had one right in front of me the whole time lol... thanks for the info and just enough instruction to get me going. Great video.
HI. For simplicity since I use LR/PS I have made many books using LR/Blurb. Sometimes the results have been poor i.e. too dark and colours off. I do calibrate my iMac regularly. I have also made large books to the maximum page allowance. In discussing the matter with Blurb they do offer some advice. I was wondering if you are able to produce a tutorial regarding preparation of images for a book viz. Sorting out the actual image size needed in pixels to suit the end requirements and say 300ppi for printing (any larger and it adds superfluous info). The colour profile (Blurb's icc) also the colour space it appears CYMK recommended. Proofing of the images to ensure colours are in gamut. Yellows/Reds problomatic. What level of sharpening? Adjustment of brightness - even using a calibrated monitor and the appropriate icc profile the images usually print too dark. Without any adjustment if images are just brought into a collection say from Photoshop(after post processing)/LR they could well be 16 bit/ProPhoto/large size and by some magic LR converts them for use in the book. This seems to be similar to capturing an image (in camera) and letting the camera's firmware develop the image i.e. no control.
Great video and explanation. I do have a question that I think comes before getting to layout a book. How do you prep your images for going to print versus what is on the screen? I have seen videos about printing photos and how the colors and exposure of the photo translates from the screen to the paper. Do you do any image adjustment ahead of designing the layout, accounting for printing versus the back lighting of the monitor? Thanks in advance for your guidance. Cheers
Many thanks, a very careful and well executed demo. I have created several photo books via Apple photos using Mimeo as the printer and they have been excellent. However I shall investigate this option as it saves having to export the collection to be used accross to Apple photos. Looking forward to seeing your results….some amazing shots in your book!
Now you’ve made me want to make a book! I’ve never done it, I have framed prints of some of my images. Great tutorial Anthony. I think I’ll probably have a difficult time choosing my photos, I may go with images of flowers since I’m into gardening. 🌸🌺🌸
Anthony, I've been making these photo books for a few years and I learned something from you: how to save my project. I created a book yesterday and saved it BUT I went back in to it today and decided to change the font throughout the book before sending it to Blurb. I'm sure the revised book went with the correct font but now "How do I re-save the new version?"
Is there a way to make a template and save it. Then export/import to another catalog? I create Catalogs every year and can't seem to find a way to export and import previous layouts.
Anthony: Do have any info on the quality of the paper used for the lay flat book. I'm using photos and text in a book of my family's history. Thanks, Mike
I may have a mess: I have edited photos and they appear to be on the book page, but how do I know if it is the "original" that was first in the collection or the newly edited version that will print? The number showing how many are in the book is not on my newly edited version, it is on the original that I uploaded. Thanks, Anthony. Great teaching videos.
Excellent video. I am currently in the process of developing my first blurb book. However, when I go to remove blank pages, my “Remove Page” command is grayed out so I am unable to remove my blank pages. How do I fix this?
I want to self print my book. Using double sided matte paper landscape. How do I setup my sure color p800 print dialog printing from LR Classic on a Mac.
As always very educational, thanks. Can we assume (1) that we can add "text cells" to all pages, (2) that we can add a text pages only, (3) can we cut and paste from other word processing programs, (4) vary the color of the text?
Thanks Anthony. Does it matter to Blurb how many megapixels each photograph is? I've done additional edits in Topaz gigapixels to print some of my photos outside of the book and while ot may affect time it takes to email is there a downside to sizes of images.
Question... If I made a hard cover 10"x8" photo book and send to Blurb. But, I also want to make a soft cover of the same book with everything being the same except the cover, do I just change from hard cover to soft cover and re-send to Blurb..?
Anthony...I don't know where else to leave my question though it isn't relevant to this great (as always) video. Do you have any tips for how to easily document print versions as I try different editing and adjustments and print out these versions? Of course I can "save as" but I find that I get going and enthusiastically create both in the computer and on paper versions some better some not and then struggle to locate the version that turned out to be the one I liked best on paper. Any suggestions to help me stay on top of this process of producing and keeping track of my prints as I experiment to find what I like best? Many thanks in advance!
Do the photos you move into the book module need to be jpeg? Most of my LR catalog is either raw's that have been edited or tiff (tiff for after working on them in PS).
Every time I try and have the book autopopulate from a Collection, it still brings up the last book I worked on. I can clear the book, and then autopopulate after that, but it INCLUDES the previous books images still! I don't know what happened to make the Book Module so confusing now, any help is appreciated.
Just started to upload to make my book > up pops a warning ~ some images will only appear as transparencies? Not accepting tiff or png / so have now to redo many images…. A load of work. Anthony, Did you ever do the 2nd video on this?
Hi Anthony, thanks for your great vids. Do I need to soft proof my selected images before I create a Blurb book from Lightroom? Regards Pauline

A link to the resulting Primate book would have been helpful.
Hi Anthony - thanks for sharing - I couldn't find anything that showed the book result once you got it back??
Always not yet a follow up to see the book after almost a year???
Is it so bad, or lack of time?
Hello, where can I find the video with the final result of the book, I already searched your channel and couldn't find it?
Do the photos you move into the book module need to be jpeg? Most of my LR catalog is either raw's that have been edited or tiff (tiff for after working on them in PS).
Well, adding text I sure as heck would edit outside of LR! Gez!
Every time I try and have the book autopopulate from a Collection, it still brings up the last book I worked on. I can clear the book, and then autopopulate after that, but it INCLUDES the previous books images still! I don't know what happened to make the Book Module so confusing now, any help is appreciated.
Please post the follow-up video showing the actual book. You've gone deeper than most Book Module videos without being overwhelming.
Useful video thank you!
Great video, Anthony. So do the images all have to be JPEGs or will they accept RAW images from Lightroom or TIFFs? Thanks.
PLEASE CAN YOU TELL ME IF I CAN MAKE A DIGITAL MAGAZINE IN LIGHTROOM?
A rather basic question: are these books produced by a photographic print process, inkjet, or something else?
Very helpful! Thanks
What happened to the meta data? Is there no way to get that text under the pictures automatically?
Did you ever do the follow up video showing the book?
Nice images 👍👍
How do you add a title page??
Just started to upload to make my book > up pops a warning ~ some images will only appear as transparencies? Not accepting tiff or png / so have now to redo many images…. A load of work.
To those about to embark on this venture; ensure your file format is appropriate otherwise it’s a lot of work to fix .
I’m similar to David Boyd ~ I’ve been remote walking in the Scottish Highlands over the last few years and to produce a book of some of my photos would be just the added memory bonus.
Just one question please? My passion is photomerge to produce my panoramics, can you explain how to add such a wide image to cover both pages? Once I started to process in Lightroom my question was quickly answered, it’s now day 2 of this and it is taking me quite a while to add individual text to each photo.
Really good instructions here ~ very much looking forwards to hold a book with some of my memories in print inside a book.
Thank you very much for this insight. I have needed help / guidance with post processing and you have been my online manual > many many thanks ✅
Great and informative video. No follow up video. I can only assume that the books quality was not as intended. Pity.
Oh Yeah Anthony; Now I want a book. Question, do you have to convert to Jpeg? I shoot RAW and process as a TIFF. Side note my wife just went Aaaarrrrggg, so I told her it was your fault.
You don't need to convert RAW or any other file formats. When you are ready to upload your layout to Blurb, LR handles any conversions automatically.
I recon this is the worst book program I have encountered. The three dots in the TLC keep disappearing and the text font keeps reverting to the default, even though I have chosen a font . Difficult to use, not very user friendly
