ABANDONED 62 Cadillac deville. Will it run after 30+ years parked?
• ABANDONED 62 Cadillac ...
Today we’re gonna attempt to drive this 62 Cadillac for the first time in many years. But it’s not going to go without a fight. Also don’t forget to go to the duct tape drags sept 27th and 28th. Dad and me will be there!
Business inquiries and if you have an abandoned vehicle you think dad and me might be interested in email us here

Interested in pre 1980 abandoned cars or trucks/ barn finds. (Not interested in foreign cars) and 1st and 2nd gen Cummins (89-98) diesels only - Авто/Мото
Travis, please continue with this car.
What are your plans for the caddy???????
I love this car!!!!
Hell yes I want to see the caddy's trans get fixed, I want to see that car run like a rocket like when it was new, and please clean the dash board, make it sparkle, I'm addicted to the show, love what you and your dad do
Definitely keep going on the Caddy!
Hey Travis, old transmissions and old diesels is what makes a mechanic know that he’s a mechanic or a parts replacer. 42 years ago we were taking that stuff apart like a hot knife through butter. Yep a Marlboro in my left hand and a cup of Chock Full of Nuts sitting on the right hand corner of the transmissions table. The good old days right Rick!! Love Your Channel Thank You 🙏
😂 great comment
I agree 💯 percent
Travis you can't stop now you and dad should go thru that transmission . This is what separates your channel from the others . You do it the old school way like back in the day .Will be watching!
Is your dad from Southern Illinois?
I’m from Carbondale born and raised. I saw you were in Mt Vernon!
@@1nekoosayes he is
Hey Travis, head coach of the Minnesota Screaming Eagles here, love your channel content! Keep up the great car revivals!
Thank you glad you enjoy
@@theetravisb absolutely! Truly enjoy seeing old vehicles brought back to life in a world of everything disposable, these old non computer cars last decades!
😂 ok Coach. 👍🏻

Hey Travis, I wanted you to know how much I enjoy watching you and your dad tear into and fix old cars. I had a choice of 7 of the channels I sub to & I picked yours first. Keep being real.
Means a lot man thanks a lot of effort goes in I give it all I’ve got
I really hope "Bendpak, Wildfire, etc" see these videos! I get working on the ground is usually the at home DIY'er, but the amount of work you and pops do, and the quality of the videos ya'll put out, definitely deserve a lift! Great work awesome videos!
Travis, that's a British phone booth. They all have the British Crown emblem.
That’s a King George crown I think. Then Elizabeth ll had a different one put on the phone boxes so that dates the phone box to pre 1952 but after 1926 (original designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scot)
Your channel is riveting Travis. One of the best buddy. The Transmission episode would be fantastic.
Regards from South Africa
You guys are my favorite automotive show because you’re build everything
Thank you we take some pride in going through the hassle to fix things
Travis, when your pole was being dropped off at your gaff, the red telephone box is a GPO Box from the 🇬🇧 that was found everywhere during the 1950's - 1980's, when the Box was redesigned to have single panes of glass (top - bottom). That phone box would have have Queen Elizabeth II Royal Crest as you were looking at it 😊
She's putting up a fight. But she'll be worth it. Maybe just a gearbox filter or a pan full of sludge?. But it'd be interesting to watch the gearbox overhauled/rebuilt for sure.
Well done Mr 😎
When you upload a video i always buy a yellow pack of m&m’s and i watching your video while eating myself fat!
But it’s my moment of rest! I think this Cadillac have so much potention . A good transmission.. a fancy interior .. a nice paint. A real beauty
I got a cleaning tip for oil stains on your concrete pad. When I was a flunky private in the army, I helped the mechanics at different bases we were temporarily visiting for maneuvers. We were always given concrete pad space to work on our vehicles. When we left the base we had to clean those concrete pads . Soak the stain in white gas (naptha stove fuel) and torch it (be careful! not too much fuel!) The flames burn off the oil residue, and the white gas is clean.
I'd love to see you tackle a 62 Cad transmission. That's a jetaway hydramatic. 59-62 are the same. I have a 59 and I used to be afraid of them, but now, I'm willing to dig into anything, especially when I see the quality of most mechanics at paid shops today.
I have my parents 58 Cadillac they bought in 1960 from a Doctor friend of theirs. Mom gave it to me in 1982. I was born a huge car nut and mom knew I wanted it lol. Lifelong Southern California car. In 2011 the minor transmission leak suddenly became a gusher! I easily obtained a complete rebuild kit from kanter automotive, But I had a hard time finding someone who would rebuild the 4 speed dual coupling hydramatic jetaway...everyone said they would have no idea how to do it. Finally, I found a place only about 15 miles away that said they could, and had an elderly gentleman who knew how to rebuild old automatics that they would bring in. They had it about a month, charged me 1200 dollars. Very nice people and 13 years later its still shifting fine, and no leaks! 😊
Great video Travis. Love those aerial shots when you do them. I think the Caddy deserves some more work.
I have become a fan with these detailed rebuild videos. Like many others have said - most guys will swap a bunch of parts and call it a rebuild. But this here is true rebuilding.
Awesome video as always Travis and Rick.
Perfect timing, Travis. This is the first time I've seen your channel. I own a 62 Fleetwood with transmission issues so I'm hoping you decide on doing an overhaul. I live in Scotland so options are limited. Buying a kit and rebuilding it myself seems to be the way to go.
I've rebuilt a TH350 before but there's plenty of info for those. Not so much for the old Hydramatic.
Yes the jets way transmissions are another beast
Nice yard with the vintage desert vibe and your methodical calm approach.
I love how you save these old cars and love watching you fix them and love watching your dad help. Great sign great save.
What a cool old car. Hope you keep going with it !!
Morning Travis!!! Great Vid, the rings on that dropped cylinder were probably stuck, they will get back into shape with use.
Little heat and running will probably bring it around
Careful moving hoses under pressure. I was looking at SBC when a pin hole opened and shot into my ear. Badly burned lost some hearing way back when. Very painful! I always enjoy your vids. Life is slower at 76!
Dang that is crazy never know what can happen working on cars. try to be as safe as I can
Trav..hear me out here..thinking you and your Dad, Emily and dogs would make a great tv show..hilarious one liners..serious wrenching and Emily keeping you 2 alphas in line..and what a great looking caddy..
Travis, just a lil' knowhow from a 77 year old mechanic here, if ya think you have a plugged engine block, drain the water or coolant out, close all entrances & outlets & close the petcock, pour about 1/2 cup of old fashioned cutting oil in the radiator & fill it with water, cap the radiator & let it heat up to full temp where it needs to run at temp for about 1 hour. Drain all rad & engine holes, refill you coolant and you'll be amazed how clean the inside of the radiator & engine block will be. Cures 90 percent of overheating or coolant problems on old cars.
The old critical information at the end of the instructions.if only I had a dollar for every time I had been there.but I think it is one of the things that makes your channel real.these things happen to all of us I would say 90% of projects end up sitting for that exact reason
It’s always more complicated than it lets on
Hi Travis, thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Please video the trans rebuild!
Please keep hammering on the Caddy. Kick that transmissions butt. Hello, dad.
Hello Travis, love the caddy and the video. Been watching you and your dad since you first started your channel. Your videos are getting better and better with each new video you do.
I am definitely hoping you will do a complete trans rebuild and share it with us. The caddy is in great shape and would make a nice weekend cruiser so maybe a sympathetic resto with some interior work and maybe some exterior paint work or something to complement the patina would make a nice video for us to watch.
Keep up the good work yall are doing and thanks.
Thank you for showing us that junkyard. It’s the biggest one I’ve ever seen! I like the old school yards where the guy knows the location of every car and can tell you how to get there.
Very awesome sighn stuff = very creative = absolutely a bring back to a better time
There's your saying to put on merch. Giving the radiator a reach around lol! That's great 👍 👌
I love your videos man. Its cool to see people fixing and not replacing. Who on earth would think to check if a waterpump fix requires machining😅 so don't kick yourself
Hey Travis, you really have some cool old stuff. I really enjoy watching you and your Dad fixing these old cars. Signs, gas pumps, poles, seems like you have an old soul! A lift would make life easier for you. But I know how expensive things are these days. Anyway, You do a great job saving the old iron and passing it on. I live just outside of Buffalo NY, and I can't get anything older than a 13 year old car that's not all rusted out! Later!
Great video! I for one would love to see that transmission get fixed. Always been a sucker for any old Cadillac.
That sign pole 👍👍👍 That cad for sale yellow and green license plate Wow!
Nothing more satisfying that sitting on your sofa with a cold beer and watch Travis and dad fighting back and forth with old “classic” junks, I mean cars. Love your channel…keep moving forward with the good vibes. 🤗🤓
'Should be able to turn it by hand now.......'.😂 Really great channel, yes fix the caddy. Would love that blue Econoline at the junkyard.
travis, travis, travis, thermostat...old fart., mech., here..i'm tellin' ur DAD when he comes out doggone it...😁 love the show, ur doin' great u & ur Pappy
Definitely do the transmission work I might have something you need I have an extra hydramatic from 1956 that might fit your 62 not sure if it works but a couple I have did when I tested them for my 56...You guys are in my top five utube channels keep the videos coming g !!!!!
That last shot where you're giving us the rundown of things looks very nice - the Cadillac looks so cool and presumably some of the light is from the new sign! Great video!
Shout out here from Denmark in Europe. Love your channel and would love to see you keep working on that nice car. We don’t have that kind of cars in Denmark so it brings joy to me, following your channel. I appreciate the lengths of your videos. It’s nice to go deep in details instead of going fast forward all the time. It gives me peace in my mind. Thanks for sharing your life 🙏
TRAVIS . Please save her . I'd love to see the continued work to get her up and running reliable.
Top work, mate 👍
I'm sure you'd have fans world wide. I'm watching from Australia 🇦🇺 .
You and your dad do a great job of saving these old cars love it 👍
Travis, love your perseverance. I'm glad you changed the freeze plugs. I was concerned that might get "overlooked". Keep working it!
Good job. Alot of people won't take the time to learn to rebuild parts, they just want to replace and move on. Keep it up
All Cadillacs from '49-63 and some models in '64 used some version of the 4-speed Hydramatic. Not a turbo Hydramatic, not an overdrive. Those shift using "dump and fill" operation of the fluid couplings. You normally don't feel 1-2 when the linkage is adjusted correctly because it happens at only a few mph.
I urge you to research how to correctly adjust the throttle rod on a Hydramatic. You tightened it the first time, which will result in the transmission thinking the accelerator is depressed further than it is, and the shifts delayed. That newer carb may have something to do with it also. Good luck.
That. Really. Made. Engine. To. Run. Smooth. Sound. Lots. Of. Power❤❤❤❤❤❤
Why. Are. You. Punctuating. Your. Sentence. This. Way? Makes. No. Sense.
Hello from eastern europe! Slovakia! Love your channel and work that you are doing. Say hello to dad and keep going! 💪👍 please continue with this project! Love Caddies…
I'm interested in seeing whatever you and dad decide to do on any vehicle.!! Transmissions are awesome and I enjoy learning more. Thanks fellas!
Like your Cadillac content. Not many respect or understand them. Keep going!
Travis Finish the Repairs on the Cadillac and Cleaning Interior up. I had a 65 Coupe Deville and a 79 Sedan Deville grew up riding with my best freind and chasing girls in his Dad's 64 Coupe Deville
Excellent restoration! Also love the new sign and the look of your compound at night. Go forward with the transmission!
One of the many reasons I like your channel is because you are like a pit bull, you don't give up easily.
Gotta see it through 🫡
Lets see that car running!! keep this project going!!!
Travis, great video. Thanks for taking us to that auto wrecking yard. That is a beautiful sign. Love it.
Overheating/plugged/rust filled cooling systems. Apologies if I've posted this before Travis. I also understand you don't want to spend money you don't have to. For machines you care about that are suspected of block cooling system corrosion especially if exhibiting overheating and you want a non-invasive method to help clear it out rather than freeze plug removal or dissssembly. I can vouch for a product called "Thermocure". It's made by the same company as Evaporust. No disassembly of the cooling system is necessary. You just drain coolant and pour in the Thermocure and then top off with water. Vehicle can be driven while it's in there and the heat will actually help the chemical process. It's not a acidic process, but rather a chelating process so there's no danger of damaging softer metals like rads, etc. It also breaks rust and corrosion down to a powder level rather than chunks so there's no worry of clogging rad passages or thermostats. After two weeks or so of being in there it can be drained and flushed with clean water until it runs clear. If you collect the water coming out it is very obvious of the work it has performed. Observing down in the rad post process or if a cooling passage is exposed on later part removal will confirm how it gets you back to bare metal so that he cooling system can work the way it did when new. Take care.
When he was putting in the chemical he used I was thinking of Evaporust. Thanks for the tip "Thermocure". Unfortunately those cleaners also uncover radiator core leaks but one has nothing to lose when the core itself is just too far gone. Sometimes replacement cores are available and if one is patient enough and can properly prepare the surfaces the tanks can be resoldered to a new core. I do realize that it is probably cheaper to just install a new aluminum radiator but some of us are purists and a recored radiator will perform as new if properly serviced. That is if the tanks are in good shape and the transmission cooler is in good shape to begin with. I have bought replacement radiators that have different neck sizes and there would be sleeves provided to shim up the difference in hose sizes and they seem to work OK. This sort of goes with the territory in the aftermarket replacement parts world.
I like what Thermocure did for my 54 Olds Super 88 a few months ago. I tried it because I was already a big fan of Evaporust on everything else.
I love all the retro signs and automotive collectibles you have, was slowly collecting Australian automotive memorabilia when lived in the southern drier part of my country, now I’m back in the Nth Tropics I’ve sold it all off.
It’s hard to keep anything with patina up here without it rusting away. Even new tools without plating develop heavy rust hanging on a hook in the garage.
Get jealous when I see you drag out cars from the desert untouched for 50 years and able to save them.
(I’m a Ford man but just love the Advanced Design Chev trucks)
The wreckers you went to, loved the TV/cable show they made for a while from there, but use to cringe at some of their repair methods and the amount of filler they used.
Absolutely I'd love to see you continue to diag the transmission... and break it down if you have to. You're right. So many other channels would just send it out for a rebuild.
Just finished this one - please keep going with this car - really would tell the story about what it takes to bring these cars back from abandonment. Of course, its your time and energy :) but I vote "yes"
Can’t remember if the Cadillac transmission has vacuum modulator. Guess you would know. I’m retired from auto repair and forget the particulars on the old cars and trucks. You and your dad bring back memories from my early years. I watch all your videos also your signage you have brings back memories! You all keep it up 👍👍👍
Love that old Econoline van! Had two of those in the past and would love another someday before I turn to dust! LOL
Continue with it! That old caddy deserves it! Great video!
As you said Travis! People love to watch you struggle!
😉👍
Great work on the signage and an enjoyable video. Thanks! Please follow through with the Caddy transmission.
I'm glad that Cadillac body in the junk yard didn't crush you. Probably not as precarious as it appeared. Always satisfying when you get the part you need.
Man oh man that car was knocking like a Jehovahs witness lol. I noticed when you were parking it around 49 minutes it will need a rear suspension. This is a cool car. I would love to own one like it. I used to work with a guy from Quebec who has a '62 coupe I believe... Love that sign!! Please show the trammission rebuild!! Great video Travis. Thanks.
Get yourself a cheap infra red temp measurement tool. That way you can just measure exhaust temp on the exh manifolds . The exhaust ports that are significantly lower temp are not firing. Works great without running the risk of getting high voltage shocks.
This is a great looking car and i think it deserves another lease on life definitely interested in seeing more on it
Travis,Whatever you and your Dad do ,I will watch .I would like to see a Caddy transmission rebuild . I need an education. Keep up the good work !👍
I would definitely watch the video on the transmission which is a scary thing but I think a fuel issue is most likely clogged fuel lines and filter. Those old cars are all just about the same in that respect

Heck yeah didn’t even plan it that way but it was a pretty cool scene huh. Thanks for watching
Great video!! So nice to see the car moving under it's own power
Pull. That. Transmission.
This is a great series. I want to see that Caddy run and drive.
Great video Travis. Lots of content. Enjoyed watching. 👍🏼👍🏼
Yes please do a transmission rebuild. It'd be great to see you & dad show us how.
Whatever you put out, I'll be watching. But man, those pink shorts!? I can't unsee that.
I'd LOVE to visit that yard. I saw an 80's Mercury Capri that likely had items I need for mine. As for the 60 Pontiac, my dad had one of those in the same green color when I was a little kid (early 70's). My first car was a 60 Impala 4 door in turquoise/white. I was stationed at Luke AFB 01-06, retired from there.
Thanks for another great video and I'd definitely love to see you continue with the Caddy. Seeing you rebuild (or fix the transmission) would definitely be nice.
Travis, you and your dad are old school mechanics ! Congrats.
You are a hard worker, Travis, thanks for filming all of it :)
Hey Davis ! Another great video! Love the old Cadillac. Your are a magician on these cars to make live again
Sorry : Trevis !
Great. Job. Covered. All the. Stops. Thanks for the info ❤❤❤❤
Travis, love your video's , watching in UK. The Red Telephone Box on that trailer , were introduced in 1926 until 1985 , over the years several designs were use . The crown was properly that of King George V (5) .
Interesting didn’t know that
The British phone box must be a rare sight across the pond man very 😎 man!
Loving the sedans. Would definitely watch more on this one!
Of course we'd like to the transmission worked on! :)
Love the sign, might look even cooler with a yellow light. And I'd be down to watch a Transmission rebuild.
Mr. B. Here ! 🍩☕️👀😎👍. This should be very interesting, you stated these cars are not cheap to bring back. Love both vehicles you guys are working on . FYI I have worked on many vehicles it did not take long , when working on a vehicle that most likely someone screwed it up. So ! I now keep my cool and expect it is screwup and I keep clear head . Love what you do 🍩☕️👀😎👍🇺🇸
Transmissions are a tall order...really enjoying the channel 😊
Yep please continue on the transmission rebuild , overall helps us , and very interesting , have done several Borg Warner boxes as long as the internals left stock springs etc , very straightforward ,
Hey Tavis and Dad. your videos are getting better and better mate. I'm in New Zealand so may be a bit hard to get there 😑but have an awesome time and be proud of yourselves
Awsome video Travis
Thanks for sharing this is a really cool video,, I like the drone views.. thanks from Vietnam
Hey Travis. Yes definitely want to see a gearbox rebuild 👍
I have spent many a morning wandering around that wrecking yard. They’re always too high on everything but I’ve still managed to get several items over the years that were needed including all the chrome for my 56 Chevy - keep up the good work guys that sign will look pretty good when it’s all done, I would choose a square sign to hang on it but that’s just me. Maybe we can get to the duct tape drags and see you guys again like last year when I helped your 45:25 dad hold his canopy down when the winds came. Take care.
Oh snap..Travy bee got him an intro!!!!🎉
Great channel and great content. Would love to see you tear down that transmission and get her cruisin once more. Keep at it Travis. You’ll get there……. 👍
Would love to see more on this Caddy - see you at DTT next month!
