    I get a kick out of you young guys having a hard time skating big miles on your big wheels. I'm coming up on 56-years old. I do 25+ mile skates at least three times a week on either 80 or 90 mm wheels max. Last Thursday I did 31 on 90s, and then Saturday I did 30 on 80s. Keep rolling! :-)

    I would try flexibility training, stretching, should help your back chap!
    46 years old here just started inline and just finished a road bike ride 56miles ,core,flexibility,stretching are key.
    Oh and drink more than you think you need too to stay hydrated, and fuel the same way every hour or so,gels or flapjacks are good! 😃

    I live in Eugene/Springfield Oregon and it is fairly flat here. My tip is to skate out halfway to your goal and then you finish by coming back home. Being tired you always are motivated to get back home and it always works for me. I just skated 30 miles from East Springfield to West Eugene and then back. It helps changing up the scenery instead of laps on a track or loops around the neighborhood :)

    A park in my area has a 4 miles of trails and a one mile loop is suitable for my skates/abilities. So i think i will try to increase laps to do marathon distances.
    The only thing I hate about the park is that I skate at night after work, so I have to dodge raccoons and javelinas/hogs. A raccoon bit my skates while I was talking to a man.

  • @fisherchi
    @fisherchi 3 года назад +2

    If you're not already doing it, I would add a multi skate tool, just in case you need to tighten some loosening screws. That happened to me on one of my rides on a rough trail, one of the screws holding the frame to skate came loose. Luckily I noticed it before it fell off completely since I started to hear a clicking sound every time I put the skate down to glide. Also if you can find a skate buddy to train with that makes the miles go a lot faster. Even if they don't skate and are riding a bike. Good luck on your marathon. I'm thinking of doing one in October.

    I skate marathon distances. Finished 47,08km (29,20 miles) this Saturday in my Twister Edge 110mm skates. You NEED a waterbladder on you, an extra pair of socks. Some kind of sandals, and extra energy. About 2-3 FlapJacks. You'll prolly have one left at the end of your ride, but that's better than needing energy to go home and not having any. :) I also take a sunscreen-stick with me and some bandaids. Keep on skating! :)

    • @SK-ow4vw
      @SK-ow4vw 3 года назад

      That is not correct. I skate every two days about 60 km. I do this with 3 L of diet coke BEFORE I eat for the day. The human body is quite amazing. With 3 flap jacks you can climb Mount Everest - I'm not kidding either!

    Great video again man! I’ve just started meeting up with a group that skates here in downtown Austin every Monday, and it’s a blast! First time we went about 12 miles, and it felt nice and easy, second time we went 9 and I was beat, lol. The guy who organizes the skates has done the Athens-Atlanta race a couple of times, he says it’s fun, but brutal. Good luck on the marathon, but it looks like you’re gonna be able to do the distance fairly easily. If you don’t already, I would recommend carrying extra bolts/axles/spacers/wheels, etc, so that if you have one go bad you don’t have to walk home, lol.

    Great seeing some citizen skater training. I’ve always wanted to do North Shore but like you, I hung up my skates a while ago and just now started looking for skates. If you’re already doing 19 with just a few practice sessions, you’ll have no problem. After North Shore, consider doing Athens to Atlanta…86 miles! That was a blast.

    Gonna sound like a joke, but in 2020 three guys from Moscow inline skating community got 300km in 21 hours. For me it's pure madness, I got only 75km this summer using 3x100, while two of those guys were using 4x80 frames! Keeping in mind the quality of Moscow roads.
    I'm sure that you'll be able to make even a double marathon distance skating in the end of this season.

  • @SK-ow4vw
    @SK-ow4vw 3 года назад

    Your skating technique is a bit inefficient in that even though you seem to do a sort of double push you actually don't do it. My own version of the so-called double push is that when my foot goes forward and to the opposite side I flex my ankle (this is my first push) to bring it back to the NORMAL position then I push with my legs (the second push). I can cruise around 41 km/h using this method. Bare in mind though - I come from the region of Bart Swings, and I've seem him cruise at about 50 km/h. For your information there is a woman in my country that still holds the world record for skating times for 20 km, 30 km, and 50 km. Would you believe that these records were set in 1985 - and they were set in ROLLER SKATES not roller blades. In all that time they have never been broken.
    All I am saying is that if you are going to make a video on how to skate marathons make damn sure that you are some kind of record holder (that is you can do a marathon in under 1 hour and 5 mins) - otherwise don't bother because you cannot contribute to what is already known about how to skate a marathon.

    • @ThirtyandRollin
      @ThirtyandRollin  3 года назад +2

      So in your opinion no one should share their experience? I'm not claiming to be the best by any means but I may inspire others that have never thought of doing a marathon before.
