    gpupdate /force actually refreshes every single group policy, if you just run gpupdate, it will only refresh the GPOs that are different, saves bandwidth and time

    • @mlachance001
      @mlachance001 3 года назад

      depend of the policy, if you set an OU for WSUS you dont need a reboot, but if your WSUS is base on groups only a reboot of the machine or a login/logout will work as group membership doesnt apply on gpupdate /force cmd and run this on newer version in Powershell with highest privilege :
      $updateSession = new-object -com "Microsoft.Update.Session"; $updates=$updateSession.CreateupdateSearcher().Search($criteria).Updates
      wuauclt /reportnow

    You make very good videos, even I, a beginner, can learn from them. Thank you. Now I learn WSUS. Could I ask you about one practical isue.
    How much disk space for WSUS data (All classifications+2 languages) I need if I want to synchronize Win2k19 +W10?
    I reserved 250GB, but WSUS tells me I'm 🙂 out of disk space. Thank you for your answer.

    Hi. Does the WSUS server have to join the domain in order for this to work? I have the same issue with some people here, that nothing appeared under Unassigned Computer. I checked my DNS and it looks fine. The only thing I did differently is that I didn't join the WSUS server on domain because I googled it and it said doesn't have to. Thank you!

      For those computers that are not a part of the domain I would just create the windows update policy locally and do it that way

    Can we follow same terminology in cross domains? Say if you have WSUS server in domian A can the clients be enrolled from domain B?

    • @mlachance001
      @mlachance001 3 года назад

      Yes but you need to make sure the wsus is available and port 8530 is open to for example if its in a different vlan/network

    Hi! I started to watch from this Video (11) and I said that because maybe I missed something before it; at 13.34 min of the video you test the google connection from this server (192.168.50.209) an your ping is ok. If this server is a virtual machine in with virtual NIC set as host-only, how can you reach the internet?

    Hello Patrick, I did step by step what you showed in the video, and I encountered a problem and it is:
    None of the servers or clients can connect to the WSUS service, they do not appear in the service under any signed category, etc., what do you think could be the reason for this?

      also you need to check if value the gpo assign to the computer you want to report to the wsus you can check manually in the registry of the client computer here HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate. You should see what your GPO setting are there.
