You Rock. I have been looking all over the place for videos like this. Thanks a million times over, I work in a vet clinic and our practice management software always stalls out, not to mention we don't have good luck with HDD so I am wanting to make failovers.
Thanks Pat. It's been 15 years since installed my last server and this was the refresher course I needed. Hopefully your other videos will be just as instructive as I need to get the server in its full glory up and running in just 2 days. :)
Excellent work and appreciate it, also make a video on ou's, groups, users, computers and printers using in real environment..., thank you and w8ing for video clip...,
Hi First of all, you are explaining awesome! Thank you! Second, I need your help.. I stuck in here 20:25 and i still can't get Internet Connection. I have additional line "Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address" and the address that shows don't similar with the IP that I wrote. Can you please help me to understand what am I doing wrong? Thank you!!
I like your videos. And because I am new. I would like to ask you about powershell script which is use for first GPO command (Firewall). Or when I will decided to create the first command through the GUI where I can see it in the form of a script. Thank you for you answer. I think that it might also interest others who are learning.
Hey i need your help with my active directory.i have backup of AD as a folder named as NTDS .My old hdd which consist of AD OU , users is corrupted. I have setup server 2019 on new hdd. I was wondering if i can restore my old AD from backup i made.will appreciate your reply. Thanks
Hello brother, first I really want to say big thanks to your effort! You did amazing source learning for everyone. My question is why did you use the default gateway in the Preferred DNS server, why you didn't use like google DNS? Thanks again!!
I can share the content if I find it. I backup the files and have to find it. Make sure you join the membership on my channel for exclusive, content, and documents that I can share
I am new on Windows server and VMWare. I am curious about why you decided to set up your internet as a bridge when first the Windows Server was installed? Thank you in advance...
Hey Pat, thanks for sharing this! I'm just starting out and built my first physical server the other day. I just wanted to ask a question in terms of architecture. I've been watching videos left right center to absorb as much information as i can regarding setup and best practices. I just wanted to know where i should be setting up the domain controller? My physical server is the "Host" and the DC should be installed on a separate VM or would it sit in that same host? Is that how you would structure it? I run a small Physio practice and have 2 sites so all of the users in that should be on the same "Domain"? At the same time i wanted to setup a bunch of users for my kids and family to create Client VMs for them with normal Win10 so i'm assuming i should be setting up another domain? I'm assuming this would be on a separate domain controller? What is best practice? Sorry for the long question and thank you in advance! You're a legend.
Hello, Thanks for the comment. I would say on the server install vmware esxi and install the Domain on that in windows server 2019. I will be making videos on esxi and all that soon. If you want please write me and follow on IG, its pdgitsolutions. Ill help with your setup if needed and give you tips, Its alot to write :). But you might be able to use the one domain to setup everything. Thanks and looking forward helping with your project.
@@InfoSecPat Thank you for being so generous with your time, you're honestly too kind! I'll play with it a wee bit more and have a think about how to do it before i bother you :) Cheers Brian
Ok sounds good. Thank you so much. I appreciate the kind words. Yeah let me know if you need any help. I wish you nothing but the best of luck with this process.
Hi, great set of videos. One question, setting up all those group policies you mentioned, you say it would save you some headaches in the future, but what is actually what you are trying to avoid? Are those GPs good for a real production environment or are just meant for a isolated lab one? I would appreciate some clarification (maybe other would do as well). Thanks!
Great question and thank you for the comment. I appreciate it. Yeah you can use it in the real world as well. But when I set up those group policies, it’s just for my lab so it saves headaches in a sense of firewalls on and things in the lab that I need to set up. However, you wanna do it in the real production environment is up to you. I just like to make those changes.
Make sure DNS is all correct. You may have to do a folder to your router. Just to make sure you can get out to the Internet. And check your virtual connection for your Netwerk
Hi Pat, Was wondering if we can still use the AD DS services while allowing the router to remain in its role of DHCP and DNS server. Or is it a requirement to have Windows server running AD DS and taking the role of DHCP/DNS at the same time? Reason for asking is that my router is taking care of CCTV and other devices within the premises. Am not sure of its settings. Am afraid that if Windows Server take over the role of DHCP and DNS, it may screw up the CCTV connection. In conclusion: Adding Windows Server running AD DS and File Storage without tempering other static connected devices ( like CCTV). Thank you. Was able to learn a lot from your youtube videos. ~amos
Hello Amos. Yes you can run ADDS without using DHCP, DNS is going to be needed for resolving host names. If you have questions please hit me on IG @pdgitsolutions and send me a DM. Thanks
Thanks Pat Great Tutoring Style! Just Passed Security+ Trying to plug in Knowledge Gaps to Give me wholistic understanding - any advice on how to do that? nothing worse than not being able to converse with someone because you have zero knowledge of the bespoke software programming language etc... I see your a arsenal Fan - shame :).. i am born and bread Liverpudlian from liverpool, uk --- Thanks Again!
You’re welcome it’s my pleasure. And congratulations on passing your exam. And that’s good that you’re trying to fill in some gaps. I think learning the windows server and some networking will definitely be beneficial. Lol yeah I’m an arsenal fan. I haven’t been following football in sometime but I’m more of a Hockey Guy. And you’re very welcome anytime brother
I didnt quite get why you created those rules at first place .... for firewall and custom ping . In a win12 server I dont have those and I dont have a problem ping the server and vis versa. Why you created those defender rules in order to achieve what (ok you ve wrote down to disabel defender why though?)? or prevent what from happening
Flattered that you liked the comment (ahaha) then again... not answering is like you wonder yourself why you made those modifications at first place, Were you following blindly a cheat sheet? (I don't think so....)
Yeah I didnt understand either, especially the ICMP PING one, are these standard things that everyone does or just something you like to do for a specific reason?
Its more the way i setup the server and AD. Cause i dont want to think about that down the road. Cause its a GPO for all servers on the domain. its been the way I have done it for many years. Thanks
Love this series! Real easy to follow and understand even tho I cant catch everything in my head. I cant find the DNS config video you did earlier but I have two small question regarding AD and DNS. I booted Server 2019 in vmware and deployed W10 on my laptop. When trying to join my domain i enter admin credentials but it coudnt join, it said it coudnt find the domain. Not until I manually set the laptop to point to my virtual server's DNS. I didnt see you doing that in your video. Why do you tink it didnt work? (Firewall wasnt a issue) Also there was another thing about configuring the DNS, creating the PTR record. I was using 192.168.1 as IP but it woudnt work until I actually enter the last 2 of the server IP. I followed your steps perfectelly but used my IP, would that have been the problem? I know it may not be easy to answer beacuse too many variables but it got me whondering..
Thanks so much for checking the videos out. Check the playlist for all the videos on windows server 2019. you have to make sure the DNS is pointing to the DC and the you have A record for the system in the DNS Primary Zone. you should be working if you point to the DC. I am not using DHCP on my servers. I have a pool of IPs i set for the labs. Send me a DM on IG @pdgitsolutions and ill help and check it out with you.

I am following your courses on a actual server I hand built. Many thanks. As I am writing this, I am waiting for the group policy client to load lol.
instablaster.
thnx Admin! great videos, Do you have a topic about permission release?
Great content! One question. If you disable the firewall everything else are allowed. Why you add the exceptions if the firewall is disabled? Thanks!
thanks
No problem
Amazing

Yes, it is! You can learn from the beginning

I have a suggestion if you skip the part of waiting time that will help a lot and easier for us.
Great idea
boss I have a problem when I install my server does not connect to the internet. Can you recommend what to do? (I have a verizon router)
Make sure DNS is all correct. You may have to do a folder to your router. Just to make sure you can get out to the Internet. And check your virtual connection for your Netwerk
22:20 access denied, know how to fix?
Muito bom, parabéns.
Enjoyment and installing windows Server/AD are two separate things. :)
Where do we access the powerpoints??? I just followed you on twitter if you can please provide me the link. Thanks!
Since we wont have the same network instead of 192.168.50 it will be our network address. So for me its .1 rather than .50 would i use that ?
So you use whatever you want for your net work. If it’s not one for the third octet, whatever you want to seat for your IP address seat it.
Hey hi... while configuring WSUS, i am getting error like "An http error occured". please help me. completing this wsus configuration

Server 2022 is coming out. Did you try it?
Thanks for the support! I will be making videos, I have installed and messed with it a little.
why using gateway as dns server, it should be the ip address of server right?

why do we need to change the ip address? can anyone explain
On a domain controller you should always statically assign your IP address.
i cant seem to get the internet connection to work
