@@michaelflury4434 The production team had a soft spot for our version more than the Japanese original and I though that was a nice touch and our version isn't as dark or serious as the original either.
It was absolutely a rip-off in that someone saw Power Rangers and likely looked around for a Japanese series they could adapt like Saban did. It's sort of like how American Gladiators took off, and suddenly we have gimmicky competition series like Knights and Warriors, and Blade Warriors. Or how the MCU became popular, and every major studio went through their IP to see if they could create some sort of interconnected universe.
So for VR Troopers there is a pilot episode where Ryan Steel was play by Jason David Frank the GREEN Rangers and it so funny cause the actress in VR trooper made a cameo on Power Rangers Zeo.And for the "Masked Rider / Kamen Rider that more of a fail spin-off then a Rip-off for america but Toei loved the idea of their sentai and rider series to crossover that it the normal in Japan now.
I've heard stories of how JDF was supposed to either reprise his role as Tommy on VR Troopers or be RYAN STEELE, and that the actor that eventually became RYAN STEELE, was supposed to be the White Ranger before the change was made to bring Tommy back to the Rangers? Has anyone else heard that story besides me?🤔
The level of uneducated babble this video has is astounding. Power rangers, beetleborgs, vr troopers and Mystic knights were all made by saban entertainment and beetleborgs even had a comic book crossover with power rangers. This is like calling a trex a rip off of Godzilla…
I'll give this guy credit for trying to pronounce an Irish title like Mystic Knights Of Tir Na Nog since most people outside of Ireland can't say it properly anyway.
Every show produced by Saban is a rip-off off the tokusatsu series: super sentai, Kamen Rider, heavy-shell B-Fighter/ Kabuto, Metal Heroes and Gridman. The only show produced by Saban that's an entire original is Mystic Nights. Dino Fury is a rip-off of the Korean tokusatsu: Dino Force Brave. Saban made money off of Toei & Daewon media companies. At least Marvel co-produced: Denjiman and Battle Fever J. Also, the first "super sentai" was based on Supaidaman. (japanese spiderman). Supaidaman was the first series to use "zords."
I definitely recall the producers of Beetleborgs saying Flabber was based on Elvis (I theorize they'd likely get Austin Butler to play him if they did a reboot, or Rami Malek) and I definitely remember Los Luchadores, also you can't forget a show that has Otho from Beetlejuice voicing the alien mentor.
Bruh, there's a lot of tokusatsu, not just Power Ranger, besides Superhuman Samurai Cyber Squad, there's nothing similar to Power Ranger, he's more like Ultraman, but he's still made by Tsuburaya, so he's another hero made by Tsuburaya. THEN SINCE WHEN DOES POWER RANGER HAVE GIANT SIZE AND FIGHT A KAIJU LIKE GODZILLA

I'm just gonna go ahead and ask the questions that some were either too afriad to ask or didn't think to ask. Which of these shows had actors/actresses that: - Posed nude or did adult related material? - Eventually became big or known stars in Hollyweird? - Died in real life? - Went to prison or got into some kind of trouble? I asked those questions because throughout it's long history, the Power Rangers franchise had nearly all of that in multiple instances.🤷🏿♂️
Oh I’m sure there are a bunch. I was going to mention the Power Ranger spin-offs on here and I saw there was over 30 and figured most of the video would just be me naming spin offs lol
Power rangers & vr troopers have more of a connection, behind tbe scenes. After Tommy lost his green ranger powers, JDF was asked to star in a pilot for Cybertron. Many fans were upset that Tommy was no longer in the show, parents wrote in to put him back. Cybertron later became VR Troopers. The actor for Ryan Steele was originally planned to replace JDF as the white ranger, before their roles were switched
1993: when side7(deviantart's predecessor) is born Superhuman samurai cybersquad was like Digimon, when dealing with digital technologies Big bad beetleborg was about comic book fans become superpowered heroes in real world from asking a literal genie
oh hey, a bad list based on bad lists that promote this idea without research. There is only ONE Ripoff of Power Rangers, and that is "Tattooed Teenage Alien fighters from Beverly hills". A Ripoff is "an inferior imitation of something", one which deliberately does not use its own idea's. Similarities in ways shows are made (I.e adapting anotehr liscensed series) does not make one qualify. And this argument is frequently stupid when it's asserted, as the ill-informed WRONGLY think that ANY form of Henshin Hero (transforming hero) series is just power Rangers...when that is far from so, and the concept pre-dates Power Rangers by *Literal* decades. As Power rangers is part of A larger genre of Tokusatsu shows that utilize special effects and stunts for telling live-action superhero stories. VR Troopers, Beetleborgs and Saban's masked Rider were all done by Saban (the company who originally made power rangers by taking footage from Toei's Super Sentai Series, thus ANYTHING ELSE THEY DO cannot qualify AS a ripoff) in similar veins TO power rangers because those three series are based on taking footage from Toei's sibling series to super sentai; that footage gathered from the Metal Heroes Series and Kamen Rider Black RX, respectively. Kamen Rider Pre-dates Super sentai, and the metal heroes were first created as a replacement for Kamen rider. Saban using different source material to produce companion series, with masked rider even having a backdoor pilot produced for it as part of Power Rangers? Yeah, those aren't ripoffs. And to pre-empt, this also means 2009's Kamen Rider Dragon knight is Similarly NOT a ripoff; it is an adaptation of Kamen rider Ryuki (one which is in fact considered by many better than its source material) that was done at a time when Power Rangers was NOT doing well and was about to face its third (technically fourth) cancellation. Shows produced in similar ways despite having entirely different means of telling stories with the footage they gather does not quality for being a Ripoff. Hell, Dragon Knight won an Emmy for its original stunt-work and direction that WAS NOT from footage they took and adapted; which is something Power Rangers can Never claim to despite Power Rangers being the origin of the directorial careers of Koichi Sakamoto and Makoto Yokoyama; who are high-demand directorial talent in japan now for Tokusatsu series due to them proving themselves extensively. Super human Samurai Syber Squad? Again, not a ripoff. Tsuburaya had worked with American companies to produce and import their ultra-series franchise before; doing so with Ultra Q, the original ultraman, and UltraSeven. because of Legal Disputes they were having difficulty doing much in that vein in the 90's, but still produced a couple American co-production ultra series in the 90's; some done EVEN BEFORE Power Rangers was made, so it's hard to dispite THEM ripping off Saban's work when they were doing it before Haim Saban was. Taking the route of creating an Adaptation like Power Rangers had done with one of their series (in this case, SSSS was adapted from Hyper Agent Gridman) was just another avenue to get their work out there; and the format they chose was again only superficially similar to power rangers simply due to the nature of the threats in the series. Thus Again, that's not a ripoff. As For Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog, which was even used for the title image? That was made by Saban as a Power Rangers REPLACEMENT; one greenlit because Power Rangers Turbo was so poorly received that Saban was going to scrap production of the franchise after Power Rangers in Space. However, In Space was SO WELL RECEIVED that the plan to introduce and then fold production assets into Tir Na Nog was scrapped, and Tir na Nog was cancelled instead because Saban wanted to continue to bank on brand recognition. Tir Na Nog has so few similarities to Power Rangers beyond being another Henshin Hero show (it's set in the past, focuses on more fantasy powers than a mix of magic and technology, draws basis from celtic lore that PR's never touched) it CANNOT qualify as a ripoff. Los Luchadores? Liscensed from Canada, that's more a take on just urban fantasy with Lucahdores, there's again barely any resemblance to PR. Like, I could go on with other examples. Tattooed Teenage alien Fighters was the only one to legitimately take Power Rangers format while neither basing itself on a prior Japanese work for its base footage/materials/story, being done by Saban, or acting as just a generalist henshin hero show. it was genuinely made to just cash-in on something popular with no effort put into it; while everything else was trying to be a genuine show with a desire for it to stand on its own.
@trashboat5388 No Power Rangers is an adaptation of Super Sentai It still uses footage from Sentai and some of the same story elements So not a rip-off

the problem with VR troopers became very apparent real quick after a few episodes. they ran out of japanese footage. they began using footage from two separate shows. thus most of time kaitlin and jb rarely fought along the side of roy.
I grew up in the 90s, and I enjoyed watching most of the shows in this content. However, I did not know about Los Luchadores and Van Pires; honestly though, they are way too cheesy for me.
Not really a ripoff since this show never got any kind of Western release until a few years ago, but there was a Japanese live-action version of Spider-Man in the 70's most just call Japanese Spider-Man nowadays. It turned the wallcrawler into a Japanese motorcycle racer who gets a bracelet that pops out the Spider suit he then puts on when he goes into battle. He even has a flying car and a giant robot. Spider-Man with a giant robot.
As the legend goes, that giant mecha inspired Toei to use that in their Super Sentai franchise. Don't know if that's true or not, but it's interesting to think about.
@@kevwwongYes, that's true. Sentai didn't feature giant robots before this show. The creation of TOEI's Spider-Man (a.k.a. Supaidaman) was also connected to the idea of bringing TOEI's SunVulcan Sentai show to the US as an adaption by MARVEL as part of a business trade / working relationship, much like Saban later would do with Zyuranger, but plans fell through before contracts could be signed.
Even my wife thought it was more of a rip off of TMNT than Power Rangers. There were 4 protagonists and the fought a Shredder knockoff. Even the fight song sounds like it rips off TMNT.
Several of these shows, like Power Rangers, used footage from Tokusatsu shows in Japan, or were intended to be an adaptation of the Tokusatsu they used footage from. Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad was an adaptation of Gridman the Hyper Agent. Big Bad Beetleborgs and VR Troopers used footage from different shows in the Metal Hero series: Juukou B-Fighter(Beetleborgs) Superhuman Machine Metalder, Dimensional Warrior Spielban and Space Sheriff Shaider.(VR Troopers) and Masked Rider, and eventually Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, were both adaptations of different shows in the Kamen Rider series. That being said, I can see why they feel like “rip-offs” 😂

I do not appreciate all the VanPire hate 😂 discovered this show around two years ago and watched it on shrooms and became very invested. There’s a creepy love triangle that unfolds. They definitely overcooked the show itself with so many elements being shoehorned in but it makes it such a weird watch. Also, fun fact, nobody knows who plays “Van He’llsing” but there are many theories. Also Jonathan Davis of Korn does a voice on it. So so so many weird facts about this show.
i don't mind the mispronunciation of names and proper nouns of the shows. but in wrestling terminology they call it "checking your oil" when a wrestler does a kancho as a reference to something a commentator said when Andre the Giant stuck his giant's thumb up someone's ass to get a reaction from the crowd. kancho literally means enema and probably is used for any finger in the butt techniques (to be used offensively or defensively which is why i didn't say attacks) but the main one people think of is the two handed gun stance, the one from Naruto uses 4 fingers by clasping the hands together and extending the pointer and middle finger on both hands.
He also mispronounces "Luchadores" - it's 4 syllables, "LOO-cha-DOOR-rays" - and "Kyoryu" which is two syllables - "KYO-Ryu" (the "y" in both syllables is the standard "y" sound as in "yellow" but blends into the consonant preceding it). Americans often have trouble with that "y" in words like "Tokyo" and "Kyoto" and tend to pronounce them as "Toh-kee-oh" and "Kee-oh-toh," and don't get my started on how American English speakers butcher the name, "Ryu," but, to be fair, that "ry" sound combination is especially difficult for English speakers without lots of practice. Long story short (too late!), pronouncing the "y" in "Kyo" as a the long "I" sound is way wrong.
I loved the Mystic Knights growing up, too bad you can't find it on DVD. Same for the Beetle Borgs series but I don't know if you can find it on DVD but I also love the Power rangers series.
Technically VR Troopers & Beetleborgs are not rip offs as they also were produced by Saban and are adaptations of the Metal Heroes series, Mystic Knights & Los Luchadores which are original shows based on Tokusatu but not adaptations of Japanese shows also were never rip offs like the former the latter also was produced by Saban. Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad is a adaption of the Ultraman franchise series Gridman while yes Van-Pires & the Alien Fighters are true rip offs while the former are not especially the non Power Ranger shows produced by Saban.
I thought we are troopers. Came out before Power Rangers by 1 year. Especially given the fact that the VR trooper helmet from the lead character was reused and painted red to make the red ranger helmet.
I have a suggestion for a review SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH episode where she goes to SALEM KEVIN NASH guest stars in the opening scene and no he doesn't tear his quads 😂
I'm not sure why I never heard of Los Lunchadors. It was on around the time I was watching Fox kids. Maybe i thought it was dumb, ignored it and forgot about it?
To be honest, I thought Mystic Knights was a better show than Power Rangers. It was much less formulaic and the acting wasn't bad at all. Plus it's based on real Celtic mythology--the show's kingdoms of Kells and Temra were loosely inspired by the mythical realms of Ulster and Connacht.
it really says something when Saban has like, FOUR shows (technically FIVE if you count "Masked Rider") ripping-off Power Rangers which is originally their show too! XD they just had to cash-in super early before anyone else i guess XD though funny enough, just like Power Rangers, most of their rip-offs are "adaptations" to other Toei owned Tokusatsu shows. i put it in quotations because they've REALLY dropped the ball on adapting them. heck, VR troopers was pulling from MULTIPLE tokusatsu shows from the "Metal Heroes" series, the footage dating earlier than Zyuranger's. also, that awkward moment i get when my username is the same wording as the giant knight robot from tattooed teenage alien fighters from Beverly hills, only i think they officially call theirs "Knight-Tron"

@@rememberwhenchannel Well, Alpha 5 was made by his grandfather, and I believe there was another "Masked Rider" type of character added eventually.
Maybe more since the battle footage originates from Kamen Rider ... Which had at least 3 heroes, if I remember correctly.
If you did a sequel of this video, there's many more shows you could include.
Agreed, might be something to revisit after receiving so many other suggestions.

I'll look forward to it then!
😁🎉
Masked Rider had a crossover with Power Rangers.
You do know the super sentai mechs predate Gundam right? Not sure if calling them Gundam fights is just a joke or an implication that they "ripped off" Gundam
Finally somebody remembers Van Pires!
It was definitely a… show! Lol
You could have added Saban's Masked Rider. Not only a PR Ripoff but literally took place in the same universe as they promoted the show in Power Rangers
How is it a rip off if its made by the same people?
Thats as if you called sprite a coke ripoff
Masked Rider was based on another Japanese super hero show called Kamen Rider. That series focused on a solo hero getting revenge on a group of evil aliens who killed people close to him.@@Siromuse_2
Made by Saban
It was a crossover episode and years later the Next Mutation Ninja Turtles would also crossover with the Rangers.
“It poses the question, can you rip off yourself? I say yes, I did earlier in this video.”
Bro your writing is top tier, seriously, youre my new favourite youtube channel. I hope you get big. This has been such a trip revisiting all these old memories you’ve managed to dig up.
Any video with a Wiseau reference deserves a sub. I also think you need to watch more Los Luchadores, that dog turning evil needs to be covered lol
I hope that dog has a Walter White type story arc.
Ultraman is from WAY B4 but i love your vids keep em up i was born in 89 this channel is me

Wouldn't MMPR be the Rip-off? It is ripping off Super sentai
Yeah I mentioned in the beginning it’s basically a rip-off itself. The entertainment industry is shameless :P
@@rememberwhenchannelwell the American entertainment industry is shameless.
Man I loved beetleborgs, VR troopers and Mystic knights . I thought van Pires was a hallucination lol
"Also there's an adorable chihuaha and he looks terrified in every scene. And I love him." 😄
In fairness, most chihuahuas look terrified.
I will not stand for anyone dissing American Gridman.
Yep and that when they did make a new gridman series, they made the title ssss gridman..which was a nod to superhuman samurai syber squad since they did like how that show was done.
@@michaelflury4434 The production team had a soft spot for our version more than the Japanese original and I though that was a nice touch and our version isn't as dark or serious as the original either.
Gridman is part of the Ultra Family.
@@XeviousD No. Completely separate toku. Though I understand the confusion.
@@MegaManDBZXcreatively it's connected though.
Superhuman samurai cyber squad is not a rip off. It’s literally a adaptation of a completely separate Tokusatsu series called Gridman.
Well damn! He and the Pink Ranger were my favourites growing up.
You know I thought I was going crazy I remembered van pires but could never remember the name. Man started to believe it was a show I imagined 😂.
I feel like I should apologize for bringing that memory back lol
I do not remember this show at all I wonder if it even came on where I live

Great video. Very nostalgic. I remember Big Bad Beetle Borgs, Mystic Knights, and VR Troopers as a kid. :)
Thank you :) glad you liked it!
The irony. Power rangers is a rip off from a Japanese show.
Literally everything saban put out was a lazy rip off! 😂
I'll give this guy credit for trying to pronounce an Irish title like Mystic Knights Of Tir Na Nog since most people outside of Ireland can't say it properly anyway.

@@rememberwhenchannel That's true but your attempt was still better than most. Also thanks for the response.
I really loved that show as a kid!

That makes sense. I also felt the actor was going for a Robin Williams approach to the character. He did pretty good.
@@rememberwhenchannel Yep, I know the guy on Facebook..and he definitely went for a Jim Carrey and Robin Williams vibe.

Love it! Happy Gilmore! I was really expecting it to be one of the worst things I watched, but was pleasantly surprised.
I'm just gonna go ahead and ask the questions that some were either too afriad to ask or didn't think to ask.
Which of these shows had actors/actresses that:
- Posed nude or did adult related material?
- Eventually became big or known stars in Hollyweird?
- Died in real life?
- Went to prison or got into some kind of trouble?
I asked those questions because throughout it's long history, the Power Rangers franchise had nearly all of that in multiple instances.🤷🏿♂️
Oh I’m sure there are a bunch. I was going to mention the Power Ranger spin-offs on here and I saw there was over 30 and figured most of the video would just be me naming spin offs lol

oh hey, a bad list based on bad lists that promote this idea without research.
Damn that’s crazy. This was just meant to be a fun little video, but I’m glad it ignited something in you. Wish you all the best.
@@rememberwhenchannel Spreading misinformation is fun for you?

@trashboat5388 No Power Rangers is an adaptation of Super Sentai

Beatle Borgs did have giant robots added in close to the end of the shows run.
I was trying to go off of the first few episodes, but this would give Beetleborgs the top spot!
You have very much piqued my interest.

''A show by say-ban'' 💀💀💀

@@rememberwhenchannel BTW, where did you get those Los Luchadores clips (as they're in HD?) Just curious.
i don't mind the mispronunciation of names and proper nouns of the shows. but in wrestling terminology they call it "checking your oil" when a wrestler does a kancho as a reference to something a commentator said when Andre the Giant stuck his giant's thumb up someone's ass to get a reaction from the crowd. kancho literally means enema and probably is used for any finger in the butt techniques (to be used offensively or defensively which is why i didn't say attacks) but the main one people think of is the two handed gun stance, the one from Naruto uses 4 fingers by clasping the hands together and extending the pointer and middle finger on both hands.
You pronounce SABAN incorrectly. It’s not SAY BAN… it’s pronounced as [SAHBAWN)

I wouldn't call the saban shows that are based on tokusatsu rip-offs, it's pretty much more of the same after all.
XD
they just had to cash-in super early before anyone else i guess XD though funny enough, just like Power Rangers, most of their rip-offs are "adaptations" to other Toei owned Tokusatsu shows. i put it in quotations because they've REALLY dropped the ball on adapting them. heck, VR troopers was pulling from MULTIPLE tokusatsu shows from the "Metal Heroes" series, the footage dating earlier than Zyuranger's.
also, that awkward moment i get when my username is the same wording as the giant knight robot from tattooed teenage alien fighters from Beverly hills, only i think they officially call theirs "Knight-Tron"
